Preset Challenge Beat 02 - Thoughts

1. I used more snares than I probably needed to use. However I did that just so I could claim I used those sounds. However looking back at it I realized that the snare sound with the kick sound adds a little attack make the kick come through a little clearer in cheaper in-ear headphones.
2. I’m liking and starting to get the hang of this Note Repeat function on the Maschine, especially with arpeggios.
A track that incorporates preset sounds from either Native Instruments Absynth 5, FM8, Massive, or some combination of all three. This is just a fun challenge for me to go along with my love for creating music.
Life Changes, So Should You
The only constant in life is change. It happens all the time. I say this because I haven’t been able to produce any beats or music tracks for the last couple of weeks do to drum gigs that i accepted and changes in terms of when I work now that my wife has accepted a new job.
That’s all okay and good only if you keep working on finding a new regimen
I now need to figure out how I will 1) Get the family life back in order 2) Change up my work hours 3) Find new, acceptable, times and ways to create beats.
Acceptable? Yes. If all I do is work on one track of a section of a beat, then why not allow that to be acceptable. If all I do is find a new sound, then why not allow that to be acceptable. If what I do is record a random audio idea into my phone, then why not allow that to be acceptable.
Point is, I want to keep making beats and need to find new means of getting music done without feeling like I have to be surrounding by all kinds of equipment with hours of time.

I was able to use more preset sounds than I thought
I used 4 total
This was the first time I used automation in a beat...ever
I used it in the reverb, panning, and volume.
Its probably not a good idea to pan hard left or right even when using automation.
My arpeggios disappeared when the cord in the car wasn’t plugged in fully.
Make sure and double check each part and that it plays correctly when using automation.
My claps missed alternating back to the sound without reverb twice
This was also the first time I’ve ever used the Note Repeat function in Maschine. That was pretty cool.
I think for Scene three or the third section of the track I could have varied it a bit so that it moved some more and wasn’t so “same”. If this were something that a person was singing or rapping over it probably would be fine.

Preset Challenge
A few weeks ago I tweeted about a challenge for myself. It’s called a “Preset Challenge”.
The idea is to use or go through every single preset in Absynth 5, FM8, and Massive and create any kind of beat.
Rules:
I don’t have too many rules except that the beat must contain at least one preset sound from at least one of the three software synths by Native Instruments. I can tweak the parameters of the sound and add processing (eq, compression, reverb, etc). I can layer sounds and use presets from other packages of course.
I thought about requiring myself to use one sound from each of the software but opted to not implement that idea as a set rule. I also thought about going in alphabetical order through each preset for each software but again I decided against making that a set rule.
Proof:
Maybe it’s not proof but I’m going to keep a Google Sheet on my Google Drive account and share it publicly with the whole world to see. I am going to upload the beat to Soundcloud and either paste that link in various social media accounts or upload the file to that account directly (like with Instagram). I might also upload another track individual of the original track highlighting the presets in the mix.
Why do this:
I wanted to begin exploring different and new sounds to incorporate in my music creating process.
I spent $1,000 on this software back when I bought Komplete 9. I want to get my moneys worth.
I like how some people put out certain challenges on social media and I wanted to create my own challenge for myself.
This challenge then gives me something “tangible” to go after besides my love for creating music.
Update for the week of 5th to 11th
The last few weeks have not been good at all for me when it comes to making music and even keeping up with this blog. A big part of that is lack of control and discipline to maintain not only balance but the amount of projects I take on. I'm the type of person that will jump all in on a particular project when it pops up and unfortunately I tend to disregard the other things I'm working on and not finish those things. Well, today is a new day and I am looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.
Once you take the fear out of the equation, the what ifs and maybes disappear and you go forth boldly from a place of love and courage

2017 Week of Feb 12 - 18
Last week was spent mostly working on splitting out audio files from Maschine into Logic. I've tried to mix and master in Maschine and to a certain degree I can, but I'm reaching a point where I really want to get a Promo video done and out the door and I can work faster in Logic Pro X.
I did run into trouble with the Action Strings from Native Instruments. I originally just wanted to have one software track run in LPX with an additional 15 aux tracks to do the mixing. However Logic kept stopping and popping up an error regarding sample rate. So then I decided to move all of the Maschine tracks into Logic as audio files. This turned out to be a better decision anyway because it helped to save on CPU.
I also was able to find other bass sounds through Logic since one of the beats that I made I did not really like the bass sound all that much (I still don't like the new ones that I found). Either way I am hoping to spend this week (19th through 25th) mixing all of the beats and hopefully get started on the video portion either in Pinal Cut Pro X or Motion 5.
Maschine Jam functionality comes to the other models

Update:
So far this journey of a music producer/beat maker has not been as fruitful as I thought. A major source of the problem is making sure I set aside time to work on making beats or educating myself on the software that I am working on to make sure that I continue to grow. Granted I could point out that from August to but not including April is the most busy time of my year but that's the thing...it doesn't matter. It's a matter of what I choose to make priority.
Consistency and Persistence
In a nutshell: For now the biggest obstacle for me as a beginner in the music producing world (beat making, song arranging, mixing, etc) is consistency and persistence
Background: I was going through my Instagram and Twitter pages as well as my Soundcloud and blog sistes and I noticed the lack of consistency and persistence with my activity on these accounts and so I realized that something needs to change where I need to get better at being consistent or persistent.
In More Depth: When I put persistence in Google I get "firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition". This is difficult for me because I am learning to balance the different phases of my life (husband, father, employee, etc), learning when to make sacrifices, and trying to change certain mentalities that are ingrained in my head about how music producers work and operate and with what type of budget, equipment and time that they have.
When I put consistency in dictionary.com I get "steadfast adherence to the same principles, course, form, etc". This comes into play more for instagram and twitter and probably future social media outlets. I am very random with when I post and am not alway sure what I am posting or tweeting about, if I post and tweet at all (which is where persistance comes in). I know that there are many things that go through my head at any given time but consistency is really going to be one of the keys to help me accomplish things quicker.

So I'm not in the DJ world at all...yet...but I've been doing research and any time I play a gig that has a DJ I find it to be really cool because I enjoy when people have a good time when music is being played. Anyway this article I'm posting because having a setup I think will be key and the setups look really cool in this article but it's also to remind me to check the article out later
