CPMA Author Interview with John Mathews
Today we welcome John Mathews, author of Game of Greed and Deception and The Conviction, to share some of his writing experiences and to tell tell us a little about himself.
Please tell us a little about yourself.
I am a tenured University Professor, originally from Cleveland, Ohio, now living in Rome, Italy.
How many books have you written?
Two, and a third is on the way.
What kind(s) of books do you write?
I write thriller and suspense books that keep the reader guessing until the very end.
What inspired you to write books and when did you start writing?
My biggest inspiration is the writing of Stephen King, and suspense / horror films. I love a good scare.
Did where you grew up influence your writing?
Not particularly, except for watching horror films on late night television hosted by Big Chuck and Little John.
What is there about your writing that especially appeals to readers?
My dynamic story lines with many layers of deception.
Do you write books in series? If so, why?
No
Tell us about your latest book release.
I am working on writing my third book now.
Are any books coming up?
Yes…a tense, psychological thriller and horror book is on the way!
As an author, what challenges you the most?
Figuring out all facets of a characters personality.
As an author, what bring you the greatest pleasure?
Good feedback from readers
What do you do when you are not writing?
Lie on hot, sandy beaches
How do you make time to write? Do you have a set writing schedule?
I do not have a schedule. I write after doing brainstorming and putting together a scene in my mind.
Do you plan your writing and use an outline or just write as it comes?
Write as it comes.
How do you approach cover design?
Hire a student on Fiverr!
Is social media an important marketing tool for you? How do you use it?
I keep in touch with people through Google plus.
What is your most effective method for book promotion?
Free giveaways on KDP Select
What advice do you have for other writers?
Stay patient and write your best works.
What is the best advice about writing anyone has ever given you?
I am not sure.
What do you like to read?
Horror novels!
Do you write for readers of multiple genres or just one?
Just one
