i’ve kind of been wondering lately (and this is just for reference and so i don’t forget) if i should rewrite Firesoul into either just one book or a duology that follows arryn’s story while she was a teen/young adult and combine some elements from the og firesoul and her backstory

i just realized that in order to keep the Air of Mystery up in Firesoul, i... can’t have any of the immortals have povs so that they don’t risk accidentally saying something in their narratives that gives away the big reveal. so it’ll literally just be roen and ronasi’s povs the whole book

arryn vs. taron

arryn: i don’t think love really exists. all it’s done for me is cause me pain. and even if it did exist, i’m not worthy of it.

how taron is described:

when taron physically possesses arryn, they keep her features and her physique save for growing like a foot.

so. taron has two sets of horns, one set growing from the parietal ridges and sort of twisting straight toward the back of their head, and another set just behind their temples that follow the curve of their jaw (to protect it).

they have pointed ears (not like an elves, but pointer than a human’s). their mouth is full of razor sharp teeth. they have glowing golden eyes with black where white should be in the eye. they have thinner black lines that start thick and turn thin coming from their eyes that go to the middle of their cheek and a thick, solid black line that goes from the middle of the bottom lip to their chin.

they have claws instead of fingertips. from said claws to their biceps is completely black (tainted ig). some of arryn’s tattoos can still be seen. they have big, black, leathery wings that have a few cuts and tears in them. every time they walk, black smoke rises from where they just stepped.

and i think that’s it!! taron is a steaming hot pile of garbage but they do be hot as fuck.

with xor’en and arryn knowing each other for a real long time, xor’en will sometimes wrap themselves around arryn’s neck as a way to either be like “ok you’re being a real asshole right now and you need to stop” or just to get a better grip on how they’re sitting on her. arryn never even flinches or makes a move to show she’s afraid that xor’en is wrapped around her neck.

so, that being said, xor’en is actually the first one to realize that taron has possessed arryn. they wrap themselves around her neck bc she’s being a bigger asshole than usual and she flinches. she makes a comment on how xor’en should get away from her neck and that’s when xor’en is like “this... isn’t arryn”

but they have no real way to communicate with anyone else. they can only communicate with maerwyn, but by the time maerwyn finds out and is ready to tell everyone else, taron forces arryn to kill her.

xor’en eventually tries helping arryn when they realize sometimes taron lets her go back to her body. but arryn doesn’t know of any way for them to help her, though she appreciates it.

she cries to them a few times after she gets her body back.

okay SO

the narrative will eventually explain all the bad shit arryn has done

including, but not limited to:

starting wars

murdering innocents

killing rulers

poisoning people

thieving

arson

torturing people

probably jaywalking at some point

anyway she’s done a lot of bad stuff

but even so, the narrative never forgives her. it never makes it seem like all those things are actually justified.

yes, she did these things to try and protect her friends, but in the end, it was still her who did them anyway. her reason for doing so isn’t that great of a reason, actually.

it’s not justified to do all this bad shit, explain “oh i was just trying to protect my friends”, and get away with it. no. if anything, the narrative condemns her and is kinda like “well there’s always another way. ur just dumb and think you have to do everything yourself.”

all throughout the books, her friends are like “hey dude we can help you, you just have to ask” but still arryn does everything on her own. nobody forced her to do it. she thought, overall, she would be helping her friends but she ruined millions of lives.

it’s a selfish decision, one she keeps making on her own despite her friends’ warnings.

anyway. i love my little garbage fire character but she is not forgiven for the things she’s done

Valyris scoffed. “All this nonesene about the Darkling being the most powerful, and for what? Clearly you’re a very powerful mage.” She shook her head. “You were the one we should have been worried about all along. You’re the villain.”

Arryn snarled as flames built up in her hands. They erupted up her forearms, covering most of her arms in flames as darkness rose from behind her. “You want a villain?” she spat. “I’ll give you a villain.”

OKAY SO

roen, my sweet boy, is very curious by nature. he’s always been curious about the world and its secrets, and has asked people some blunt questions and come off as rude when really he just wanted to know.

so when he asks arryn what race she is, since he’s never seen anyone look like her before, he thinks nothing of it. he thinks he’s just asking an innocent question.

if he wasn’t miziran, she would have told him. but she finally realized that the mizirans know nothing of her people and what happened to them. they know nothing about how they massacred her people into there being not even 100 of them left out of what was millions.

so, understandably, arryn gets really angry with him. she’s like, “you seriously don’t know what your people did to mine all those years ago?”

but the truth is... he had no idea. it’s not his fault. the winners of war always tell the end tale, and in this case, the mizirans didn’t want to be painted as colonizers and people who committed mass genocide of an entire people.

the elves know, especially the ones who were alive during that time, like Ra’ani and Rhi’zor. a lot of taingans know that the mizirans weren’t the original people on that continent. ronasi doesn’t know, otherwise she would have said something about arryn’s appearance.

besides, they all think that the indrochtians were killed. even rhi’zor is surprised when he sees arryn. he knows who she is, but he thought she died when he lost her in that village.

the indrochtians that did survive are either living in mollehnian and are part of the reason it’s so filled with crime and death, are living in tainga in secluded areas, or are part of the corrupt.

the reason they haven’t really reproduced is because they’re afraid of the same thing happening again. even though they can see the current mizirans are nothing like their ancestors, they don’t want to take the chance of getting themselves killed by making themselves known.

thankfully, many of the surviving indrochtians don’t hold a grudge on the current mizirans. it’s not like “i know your ancestors killed my people so imma kill you now”. it’s more like. they’ve moved on. made their own lives in the new world they live in.

yes, they want revenge for their loved ones. but what can you do when nobody even remembers who you once were?

that’s how the darkling got so many indrochtians into becoming corrupt. he manipulated them into getting powerful enough to get revenge, but by the time they were powerful enough, their anger had died and they had moved on.

arryn, knowing full well she’s stopped nikal from entering val’s bedroom those nights: it’s a mystery

arryn after planning how she’s gonna be self sacrificial and destroy her own happiness so that her friends can be safe and enjoy their lives:
