Denahi, having nothing to add, simply allowed the professor to continue talking.

“Exactly! And I mean, of course the languages have their differences, but whenever you start to look at dead languages it can get a little tricky.”
“I can imagine.”

“Sometimes I can manage to do both at once, but when you get excited about something, what are you supposed to do? I mean, how often do you figure out that a word you thought was in sumerian is actually thessalonian which is why it didn’t make sense before?”
“That’s definitely not an everyday occurrence.”
dontworry-i-bite:
“Well fuck, I thought you’d tell me some profound shit that would suddenly just make everything crystal clear. What good are you then?”
“Yeah, sorry. Patronus charms aren’t my strong suit. Now if you ever have a question about Scottish folk tales, I’m your man.”

“Of course. I mean, I’m not the clumsiest person around, but this does seem to happen occasionally. I’ve been told that reading and walking is bad for my health.”
“It does make seeing obstacles a bit more difficult.”

“Yep, I’m fine, nothing to worry about. Just a little tumble, its fine.” Milo moved to pick up the papers he had dropped after tripping.”
Denahi reached down to help gather up the papers. “Well, as long as you’re sure.”

“That it belongs to a younger student. Now that I think about it, it looks like the cat Jax was supposed to be watching. She belongs to our friend, he’s a Gryffindor.”

“Yeah? And why is that? Because magic’s ‘so cool’ and ‘fun’ and everything I should want in life now that I know what I was apparently missing?”
“No. Because I enjoyed talking to you.”

“All right,” Denahi said, knowing he wasn’t going to get anywhere by trying to stop him.

She hesitated a moment, tossing her head slightly. “Dakota. Not that it matters–I’ll probably be gone in a week, or something. I’m not here to stay.”
“Really? Well, that’s a shame, Dakota.”

“Oh, no, wait. I don’t think that’s right, either.”
“What’s not right, Murray? That the cat belongs to a younger student, or that you know who the cat belongs to?”

“Fuck. Now I know I have to perform it somehow. Come on, give me some more brilliant advice!”
“I’m not sure how brilliant it’ll be. You obviously know how the spell works, at this point it’s more just a matter of finding the right memory. Unfortunately there’s no real method to that. It’s mostly just trial and error, trying different happy memories until you find one powerful enough for the spell. Which, from the look of things, is what you’re already doing.”

“Doubt it, you’re just saying that to make me feel better.”
“I can assure you I’m not. I do want you to feel better, but lying is rarely the way to accomplish that.”

Having nothing to do and nowhere to be, Malinda found this the perfect time to just relax with one of her books. She didn’t know how long she had been sitting out side but it had started to get cold and she could see her breath over the pages. She didn’t stop read though, even when she felt someone approach her. “Don’t bother trying to get me to go inside. I know it’s dark and late but I can take care of myself.” She spoke, her eyes still scanning over the pages.
“I don’t doubt that,” Denahi said. He’d been out for a run, trying to clear his head a little bit. Lately he’d just been caught up in all his responsibilities; he had just needed to get away for a little while. Even if getting away was just spending his night off of doing patrols jogging around the lake. “It will be curfew sooner rather than later, though.”

“It’s definitely not today - at least it’s not for me.” Francois sighed. “I’m just hanging out for graduation.” Except, he wasn’t. What would he do once he didn’t have the castle’s roof over his head 80% of the year? Where would he stay then? “It can’t be all that easy being head boy, I don’t envy you.”
“It’s not easy,” Denahi said. “It’s just more responsibility heaped on top of everything else I’ve got to worry about.” That sounded bad. He actually didn’t mind being Head Boy. But it was the only one of his obligations that was sort of optional. Which meant it was the first one Denahi would complain about. It wasn’t as if he was appointed to be a seventh year student or a big brother. “But it’s not all that bad either. I don’t do all the work alone, after all.”
