Stupidest Most Dumbest Fucking Bitch Alive (self diagnosed)
TW: Sexual assault, sexual coercion, oral sex, penetration
“If the person you’re spending time with says no, you stop. If they don’t help you to “move things along” (i.e., if they don’t advance the sexual encounter), you slow down, don’t advance, or stop. If a person freezes up or looks faraway and glassy-eyed, you check in or stop. If someone doesn’t return your kiss with any passion, you stop. If someone removes themselves from you physically, you check in and do not begin sexual activity again without enthusiastic consent. If someone moves your hand away, you don’t put your hand back there. It’s all so easy. If you give a shit.” WHY IS THIS SO FUCKING DIFFICULT “A victim doesn’t have to fear for their life to be coerced. Sometimes coercion is annoyance and brow-beating and relentless demands. And yes, sometimes a person who does not want to have sex just…gives in, and lets the sex happen, because they know it’s the only way they will get out of the situation with ease.” (I just want to note that I do not agree with the author’s sentiment that this equates with rape or sexual assault. I understand what she’s saying, though I think she uses poor terminology)
...how vital it is to read the room and make sure the other person is not just willing, but damn well enthusiastic. Especially, in my opinion, if that person is the one to be penetrated. You want to enter them. You best ensure you are a welcome guest, not someone who just begged, pressured, guilt-tripped or harassed their way inside.
“Our society, the internet, and even our most mainstream media, constantly perpetuate the idea that men do not need to worry about what our needs and boundaries are. They just need technical consent, however that consent is acquired.
CONSENT SHOULDN’T BE THE GOLD STANDARD. That should be the basic foundation. Built upon that foundation should be fun, mutual passion, equal arousal, interest and enthusiasm.” ... “We also need to reassure women that their fear of being thought of as “difficult” “awkward” or god forbid, “frigid,” should be completely eradicated, effective immediately. These are stereotypes created by the patriarchy, about women, to rather astonishingly, douse women in shame for feeling ownership over their own bodies and moving at a pace they are comfortable with. If you think that he won’t call you again because you weren’t ready to meet his sexual needs on his schedule, then HE DOESN’T LIKE YOU VERY MUCH. Women have traditionally been taught to please, to placate and to avoid embarrassing a man. This has to stop, and it has to come from us. If a man asks you to put his penis in your mouth, and you don’t want to, but you do it because you want him to call you again, you are doing yourself a disservice and have to accept some responsibility. If he is not actively pressuring you, but you feel pressured by his eagerness, desperation, or the fear of his disappointment, then it is frankly on YOU to say no and act in honour of your needs. (Obviously in a situation where you feel in any danger at all, this is a completely different case.) It is fairly modern for women to be allowed to choose who they marry. It is very modern for women to be “allowed” to have casual sex. It is extremely modern for women to ask to have their needs met and for that to be considered an achievement for a man. WHAT EVEN IS FAKING AN ORGASM? What does that say about women’s attitudes towards their role in the bedroom? “I’m going to congratulate him for something he didn’t take the time or make the effort to do?!”  Women’s magazines forever, constantly writing about “how to please him” Very few men’s magazines with titles about “how to give her the orgasm of her life.”The subliminal messaging is thorough and it is constant.” ... “I hope men stop singing about putting pussies in blenders and making Pussy humus out of them, or whatever.”
A woman’s account of her date with the actor reveals our broken attitudes toward sex.
“Despite a growing conversation around enthusiastic consent, most everything in American culture still tells men that they should be pushing for as much sex as possible at all times. The idea that men have more sexual desire than women still goes unchallenged, leading too many men to believe that a lukewarm yes is all they’re ever going to get, because women don’t like sex that much anyway. Boys learn at a young age, from pop culture, their elders, and their peers, that it’s normal to have to convince a woman to have sex, and that repeated small violations of her boundaries are an acceptable way to do so — perhaps even the only way.
As many have pointed out, movies past and present frequently depict men overcoming women’s initial lack of interest through persistent effort — that is, when they’re not mining coercion and voyeurism for laughs.” ... “Meanwhile, girls learn from an early age that it is rude to reject boys. They learn to “let them down easily” and never humiliate them. They learn to give other people what they want, and to put their own desires second — especially when it comes to sex. And few girls get any sex education, either at school or from the culture they consume, that encourages them to think about sex in terms of what they actually desire, as opposed to how they will be perceived by others.” “The result is that situations like the one Grace describes, in which a man keeps pushing and a woman, though uncomfortable, doesn’t immediately leave, happen all the time. For all the criticism Grace’s story received from Flanagan and others, it also received countless nods of recognition on social media, from women and men. Too many people saw something familiar in the story of a man who badgers a woman for sex, again and again, as though hoping to wear down her resistance. Creating a culture in which fewer people experience what Grace describes will require better sex ed, that teaches more than just consent, challenges gender roles, and encourages people to put their desires and those of their partners above social expectations. This education should start much earlier than today’s sex ed usually begins, with lessons on topics like empathy and respecting others’ boundaries. For adults who have already grown up in a culture with a skewed view of sex, a widespread social conversation about the importance of communication, consent, and actually caring about one’s partner’s experience certainly couldn’t hurt. And this moment, when Americans are already having difficult conversations about sex, gender, and power, isn’t a bad time to start.”

A moment that won’t be forgotten
alexanderneimert
This is a photo from the beginning of my sophomore year. I was at a really high point in my life: I’d just gotten a dog, I declared my major, I had a lot of new friends to make, and I was ecstatic for the year ahead. That enthusiasm was short lived, and I’ve had trouble feeling as enthusiastic in the years since.Â
And so I want to talk about mild coercion and the kind of sex that is consensual but still reaps negative, even traumatic effects on at least one party involved. The kind of sex that results from the pressure to “get laid,” the pressure to get laid frequently, the pressure to end a “dry spell,” and the pressure to not have a dry spell at all.
Many boys know that consent is absolutely necessary. Many boys would never dream of forcing nonconsensual sex. Many boys will lie, deceive, and lead their partner on in order to get consensual sex.
I’m talking about the sweet-talking charmer, the one who texts you good morning, how’s your day, the one who takes the butterflies in your chest and cups them in his hands, kissing each wing and setting them free. The one who builds you a house and beckons you through the front door, telling you don’t worry, this house is built out of the finest wood, I will never let it fall down on you. The boy who tells you you’re beautiful in way that makes you believe it. The boy who comes into your room when you’re drunk and knows just what to say to get your guard down. The boy who sees you as merely a body with no concern for who lives inside of it. The boy who has no intention of talking to you again when he says “I’ll take care of you, don’t be afraid.”Â
Sometimes I can’t imagine being touched. I freeze. I play the part the way I think I’m supposed to. I don’t know how to engage in an intimate experience without the paranoia that I am a plate of food to be left at the table once he is full. I don’t know how it feels to be be with a partner who respects me, and I mean the kind of respect that goes beyond listening to me say, “I associate sex with abandonment” and actually acting accordingly in a way that doesn’t benefit only himself.
It is normal to use people for sex. Relax, don’t get so worked up about it, calm down, don’t be so naïve, don’t be so closed-minded. It’s normal. It’s normal. It is so fucking normal. Why is feeling this way accepted as normal?
