meet whisper spirit katsopolis. sheโs 28, has lived in pleasance her entire life, and sheโs a mortician at faccone funerals & cremations. you can find her about page HEREย to read a little more about her, and you can find some tidbits about her below the cut! if youโd like to plot, please hit me up either through tumblr im or discord! @phqextrasโ
trigger warnings: congenital heart disease
whisper will also answer to wispy and any other variation you can get from her name
she has congenital heart disease. she was born with it and she takes medication for it. she had open heart surgery when she was three months old, so she has a large scar down her chest. she doesnโt hide it and she doesnโt mind people asking about it, itโs not a sensitive subject for her.ย the only close call with death sheโs ever had was when she gave birth to her daughter. sheโs been fine ever since, and tends to take it easy as far as strenuous activity goes
speaking of sensitive... she is one. she has sort of a sixth sense. she can feel when something unordinary/supernatural is around (itโs mostly the energy of spirits she can feel, sheโs just ultrasensitive to it). it doesnโt mean she can talk to ghosts, but she can in fact see certain apparitions. she can feel when something of the like is around, and she can usually tell if itโs good or bad. she gets the feeling most of the time around cemeteries, in the morgue, in her embalming room, or near places that are historically old
mom is italian, dad is greek. she speaks both languages fluently and she can speak american sign language, as well as in italian and greek
if youโre not her family or her friend, donโt call her anything that pertains to her height (or lack thereof)
sheโs a mortician and she loves her job, even if itโs emotionally trying at times
sheโs a practicing witch and has been ever since she could remember
she loves creepy stuff
scary movies are her favorite
she will eat anyone out of house and home
her daughter is the love of her life
donโt come for her or her family. she can and will make your death look like an accident
tries not to curse, so she uses alternative phrases the best she can
will absolutely correct you on something if she knows sheโs right about it. if sheโs claiming sheโs right, itโs because she is --- she learned it, didnโt guess it
dresses like a total tomboy. she only gets โgirlyโ when sheโs dressing up for an event or meeting. her usual attire consists of jeans and a baggy t-shirt and converse
her hair is forever messy. she can never get it to look decent
Bez nodded, figuring their hyper aware mind could probably find the badge quickly, though they might as well get distracted by something else, but the possibilities were endless, either they found it, or they found something else. โWere you at the lake yesterday?โ They asked, as they started their search.
she paused at their question, raising an eyebrow.ย โdepends. did someone see my face? cause it coulda been my sister,โ she said. it wasnโt her sister, but no one ever paid enough attention to recognize the difference between them. and it was extremely irritating considering they were complete opposites of each other and were nothing alike. but, it was true that it could have been echo. she was a medical examiner, so she did a lot of body pick ups. if thereโd been a body reported, her sister would have been one of the ones to confirm and pick up.ย โi wasnโt right at the lake, but i took that little path as a shortcut.โ
โIf itโs environmental, itโs reversible too,โ Ajita said, and completely believed it, after all, there had been times where she had watch documentaries about who ecosystems recovering from the worst type of disaster, and pretty quickly too, two years tops for trees and vegetation to find their way back to the hurt areas. They had less love for the police, sure, there were some good cops among their mids, but all in all, they were doing too little, investigating the water and not CITA itself. They shook their head. โWeโre fudged one way or another, which is why KJ and I are running for mayor, we might get the power to actually get to the bottom of this, get outside help, from professionals that arenโt trying to hide their bad intentionsโ
โthatโs true - even if it takes a while for it to go back to normal itโs usually able to heal up once the threat is taken away. if the environment is treated on a regular basis, it might help speed up the recovery process,โ whisper said. she nodded at their statement and could only agree. it was true. they were screwed no matter what, because theย โbossesโ of the town were complete idiots.ย โwell, youโll both get support from the katsopolis side. anyone to get that money goblin out of office. and if it goes your way, maybe weโll even get to find out what that creepy cita building is doing. anything thatโs that secretive usually has some pretty bad things going on and they just donโt want the public to know.โ
Ajita laughed, but nodded regardless, they could imagine getting a headache if they had a twin who went against all their beliefs and constantly got them into trouble. They pointed at Whisper as she said all the things they had been thinking. โCould be both, really, if itโs environmental Iโll be very very relieved, but my gut tells me it isnโt. Whatever is turning the water black, I think theyโre trying to cover it up. The question is: how long has this been going on? Because itโs been months, and nobody has come up with a solution, makes you think they have the wrong intention. Not solving it, but covering it up.โ
โthe bad thing about it being environmental is that thereโs something wrong with the surrounding environment. we definitely donโt need that. weโre a small town, we almost canโt afford to have environmental issues. if itโs not environmental and itโs manmade, who knows if itโs reversible?โ whisper said. she didnโt know a whole lot about biology or science that she hadnโt learned for or during her career, but she knew there were important properties for both.ย โif someone can figure out the cause, they can find a solution. but if the people from cita are in charge... then weโre fudged. even the local police donโt know where to start. but at least theyโre doing something.โ
Bez looked around, technically if someone would question the situation, they would have enough responsibility to mention that it was all alright here. After all, they werenโt directly on the lake. And the research team wasnโt anywhere near. โI mean, I probably wouldnโt be too fast at spotting the difference, but youโre not under arrest or anything,โ they assured her. โSo, let me help look. What does it look like?โ
โthank god, iโve been arrested enough this month,โ she said. yes, she was still petty and salty about her idiot sisterโs sabotage. who wouldnโt be?ย โitโs on a black lanyard with a graveyard print and itโs a white badge with my picture, name, and faccone funerals and cremations on it. it saysย โmorticianโ in bright red letters, thatโs probably the first thing that would be noticeable on it.โ
โThat sucks,โ Ajita agreed. โAnd wow, I will never understand what and how your sister is,โ they added with a laugh, but it was always a treat to listen to the stories. And it was also fun to listen to other stories Whisper brought along with her. They gave Whisper a judgemental face however when she started talking about her senses. It was kind of special that they were still friends even though Ajita didnโt believe any of it. โโCourse not. There isnโt anything to find out, after all. But Sef enjoys pretending there is stuff to find out,โ they shrugged. โI donโt think we will find anything ever, but hey, if I can unearth what CITA is doing, Iโll keep going.โ
โyou donโt wanna understand it, itโll give you a headache,โ she said. whisper gave them a small shrug at their statement.ย โsomethingโs going on with it though, so thereโs something to find out about it. the question is, what is there to find out? all that nasty waterโs coming from the lake, but why? and why all of a sudden, yanno? thereโs a lot i donโt understand, but i do know that water doesnโt just turn black for no reason. could be something as simple as environmental issues, honestly,โ she said.ย โsee, thatโs an interesting investigation. that building gives me the heebie jeebies. if anyone finds out what theyโre really doing, thatโs gossip iโd actually be happy to hear.โ
Bez made a face, feeling kind of bad that they had to tell her that, in fact, she had been trespassing, after all, there were signs - perhaps not well placed - but most importantly; there had been a press conference. โIโm sorry, but yes, youโre trespassingโฆ technically. Areโฆ Uhm, I can help? We can find it faster together, probably, and then I can escort you away from the lake like nothing happened.โ
breaking the law, literally in front of the law. that was something her idiot sister would do. โoh, thatโs... fantastic. i suppose itโs too late to say iโm echo instead of whisper,โ she said, only half jokingly.ย โi dropped my employee badge somewhere. i think i was in this area, but i was too distracted to really remember. itโs not a huge deal if it isnโt found, but it would definitely save a lot of paperwork.โ
Bez looked out over the lake, notebook in hand, eyes slightly widened. A new clue, a new hint: it could all be coming from there. Their face shot up.ย โWait, donโt come closer, please!โย
she wouldnโt have even been here if she hadnโt lost her lanyard. it wouldnโt be a huge deal... but on that lanyard was her employee badge, and that was a big deal. of course she had a backup at work, but sheโd still rather find the one she lost. as she looked around, she didnโt even notice anyone else around her, so she flinched when she heard the otherโs voice and she stopped dead in her tracks.ย โo...kay. iโm just looking for something i dropped somewhere in the area... i think. iโm not trespassing am i? i havenโt been paying attention to any signs or markers.โ
Forty-eight hours didnโt seem too bad, and Ajita had always thought the bail was one of many proofs that America was a capitalist country on the brink of its grand extinction, but they simply nodded. Whisper seemed to always share surprising information, about records and statute of limitation, showing the reason why she stayed out of trouble was probably because she had the brains in the family. โIt canโt go on your record right? You were wrongfully apprehended.โ Ajita sighed, cake did make everything better, but Sefโs ghost hunting interests made their Youtube Channel a very different source of entertainment. She tried to keep the quality up by editing a lot out. โEdith Alby, we went by the lake, trying to find a source for the Black Water thatโs been plaguing Pleasance.โ
whisper shook her head.ย โnah, not permanently. itโs still on my record right now, but it will be for a few weeks because it takes a while for those charge drops to be processed through the system. they gave me a signed document to keep with me so i can show proof of wrongful arrest. i donโt get myself into trouble like echo does, so iโll be fine until itโs cleared. how she still has a government job is beyond me,โ she said with a small sigh.ย โoh, how fun - i always wanna investigate things but my spirit senses are likeย โyou canโt deal with this, cry at the graveyard insteadโ, so i end up sitting at old lady mcgradyโs headstone until she gives me theย โso help me god iโll haunt youโ vibes,โ whisper said with a shrug.ย โdid you find anything out?โ
ย ย ย "IโM TELLING YOU, I SAW THEM!โ sef asserts with the utmost sense of urgency as he tries to convince the other of what he witnessed.ย โthose CITA guys parker their van and pulled out a body bag from the back โ that, or they just had a heck ton of laundry they wanted to get rid of.โ
whisper rubbed her forehead for a few seconds.ย โit was a body bag... they were coroners. taking a body to the funeral home. iโm the one that pronounced him and worked on him.โ
ย ย ย โLOOK AT MY FACE.โ and like a statue sculpted exactly where he is sitting, roshan only blinks at the other as he holds his expression.ย โdoes it look like iโm impressed?โ
โdoes it look like i am?โ she asked, raising a brow.
Ajita was on the edge of their seat as they listened to Whisper recount her day, seeing everything vividly in their mind. From Whisper in prison, to little shadow being pulled by her grandmother. How the Katsopolis got into such messes, they didnโt know, but it was fun to listen to. โHow long does she need to serve?โ They asked, still invested in what had actually got her into prison, but they didnโt want to ask that, perhaps it would be something considered legal anywhere else, and then they wouldnโt be able to keep themselves from feeling sorry for Whisperโs sister. โJust your regular Sunday, or well, my now-normal-Sunday. I went to church for KJ, listened to a lot of old people tell me their issues, ate some cake, and afterwards I filmed a new episode for Youtube with Sef.โ
โforty-eight hours,โ whisper said.ย โi went through hellsinki and back because echo seemed to think it would be aย โfun ideaโ to grow a freakinโ weed greenhouse without a license. but, there was only evidence to say she had anything to do with one plant, so i guess they gave her the lesser of two evils - bail was gonna be ten thousand so dad said she could stay there, and iโm not mad about it, she can deal with it. god, that makes me so mad - i had a perfect record! aside from some... teenager things back in the day, but those arenโt important and theyโre way past the statute of limitations now so none of it can be used against me,โ she said the last part quickly.ย โoh, how fun. listen, cake makes everything better even if youโre already having a good day. whatโs this episode about?โ
In truth, KJ had already found himself poised to lose this standoff. His brow twitched, and his lip curled. And he truly was about to avert his gaze when the noise erupted from the childโs mouth. With it, he let out something of a soft gasp, eyes widening.ย โUhโฆyeah, know Iโm not much of a looker, kiddo, but never made someone scream before.โ This was a joke, not exactly funny or charismatic, but at least goodhumoredly self-deprecating. He sighed a little, managing a weak smile, as much of a proper one as someone like KJ could actually muster.ย โSheโs got a killer poker face, though. Thatโs a good thing. Future in law or maybe, likeโฆyou know, card playing.โ Maybe it was taboo or impolite to suggest to people that their toddlers might grow up to be professional gamblers, but to KJ, the gig sounded glamorous.ย
she didnโt know why shadow started screeching like a banshee, and sheโd been doing it for so long she swore she was born sounding like a prehistoric dinosaur.ย โshe came out of the womb sounding like that. sheโll just randomly screech and scare the ever loving hellsinki out of me and then she thinks itโs funny,โ whisper said, tickling the toddlerโs belly and earning a laugh.ย โoh, i know. sometimes she makes me feel stupid when she looks at me like that. she also started flinching at people - which was funny the first time cause she was just copying my sister, but now iโm kinda thinking sheโs gonna beat the other kids up at daycare. iโm just waiting for the call sayingย โshadow gave carter a bloody noseโ. and normally, iโd respond withย โwell what did carter do to her to deserve it?โ but i dunno, man... sometimes i wonder if sheโs secretly an evil little genius. the only person sheโll tolerate getting an attitude back from is mikey oโflaherty. if sheโs acting up, he just saysย โiโll feed you to lady mcgradyโ and sheโs just likeย โwhateverโ and rolls her eyes like a perfect teenager,โ whisper said.ย

KJ did not know how to interact with children, but it was not entirely his fault. An only child with no real extended family, he had not learned to cope with siblings or cousins or nieces or nephews. But with the mayoral election approaching and his public image not exactly softened, despite his better efforts, he supposed he ought to try to make some effort to develop a personable persona.ย
Of course, he had no intention of going out about kissing theย babies of Pleasance.ย But meeting Shadowโs eye, he tried to make something of a silly face, titling his head upward. The expression felt silly. And so, he was left in a staring contest with the toddler from his vantage point on a sidewalk bench, looking more perplexed than anything else.ย
while this silly face / staring contest thing was going on, whisper was responding to a text to her sister - bitching her out, because she was still salty about the other night. shadow was almost a master at 'the staring game' and could make a grown adult feel inadequate just by the blank expression on her face sometimes. lord knows it happened often enough at home. all whisper had to do was say something that was somehow appalling to a two-year-old and she'd give her a look that said 'how the hell did you make it this far, mom?' just as whisper sent the text, a sharp screech came from her daughter, which made her visibly flinch and drop her phone on the ground and look at shadow with an exasperated expression. "hey, you little pterodactyl - let's not do the dinosaur thing, some people don't like being screeched at in tyrannosaurus rex language," whisper said as she picked her phone up. "i swear she was a velociraptor in a past life. that's how she wins games, by the way. it's the shock factor, she's too smart for her own good."
