Meg March is my favorite march sister in the 2019 Little Women but the scene I relate to the most is Amy’s realization that she will never be a “great” painter. She’s perfectly fine but nothing special. And I feel that way about writing. When I was in elementary school, I read Eragon and when I found out the author was 16 I knew I wanted to do that. So I wrote, and wrote, and wrote. Essays, short stories, novel attempts. I submitted to school magazines, entered contests, did Nanowrimo. I woke up hours before work and stayed up late at night. For years I told everyone that I was a writer and I was going to publish a book one day. Until one day, I woke up and realized it wasn’t going to happen. I could write sentences and paragraphs, I could think up plots and characters. But I couldn’t create the magic. My writing was never going to be great, it was just fine. And I don’t see that as a failing, I see it as understanding my talent but you can’t tell other people that. You’ll get the “you’re amazing, believe in yourself” speech. I’ve accepted it but sometimes I get really sad when I’m reading a book I love with beautiful writing. It makes me want to write something like it, and sometimes I try! But it’s always just fine.

Rewatching the sequels and I have been informed that Kylo Ren/Ben is 30 YEARS OLD?? I’ve spent the last decade thinking he was 19, MAYBE 21 and they just had an older actor playing him. In my defense, snoke callls him a child and he acts like a teenage boy but still…my flabbers are ghasted

YES! This is why “Lorelei always had money”, “Emily was the victim” arguments always fall flat for me as a person who also has estranged parents. Emily literally going “now that we are financially involved in your life…” in the pilot is textbook parental control. It’s why Lorelei doesn’t consider them as an option for chilton at first or for the termites. Because to her they aren’t an option, that just invites control. It’s why Emily gets so upset when gran offers the trust fund and when Lorelei pays her back, she’s losing financial control which is her leverage.

Let me tell you a story ✨

15 years ago the last book in the Vampire Academy series came out. I had been WAITING for this book. My mom had the book waiting for me when I got home. I was able to get 7 chapters in before I had to go to bed. The next day I excitedly brought it with me to school and sat it on my desk in my 7th grade Spanish class. A fellow student came in, saw my book, and ran over to talk to me. Without preamble she said “can you BELIEVE ——— did it!?” No. No fellow student. I couldn’t. I wasn’t allowed to stay up all night reading. It wasn’t malicious but it was cruel. And so I never finished it. For over a decade it sat on my shelf, waiting. Last year I finally decided I had to do it. I spent 2024 slowly rereading the first five books and then I hit a wall. For four months I couldn’t bring myself to finally finish the last book. But yesterday I officially finished the series. It was very bittersweet. And I’ve learned 2 things.

1- Vampire Academy still holds up

2- I can successfully hold a grudge for 15 years
