The end result was a combination of different sized blocks that were elongated to emphasize the north to south axis that was used as a means of circulation through the site. A straight, wide path allowed for circulation through the site and a way of connecting the north and south entrances.

Roof decks were added to all one story spaces which are all interconnected creating a staggered roof garden accessible by all. The roof deck also acted as the second means of egress by using outdoor staircases.

By using a mass and void relationship study, a shifting of space east and west created pockets of outdoor areas that have a direct relationship to the existing buildings and allow the addition to open up to the outside.

As part of the study abroad trip, we were required to take our comprehensive studio course in which we had to design an addition to an existing theater and university space located in Berlin, Germany. The addition was to include a performance space, coffee shop, and individual office spaces.

The concept involved using the apparent conceptual geometry of the site to inform the location, shape, and circulation of the addition. The geometry was derived through building location, existing paths, major axis, and other pre-existing conditions.

Traveled to Vrin, Switzerland to look at contextual architecture. Specifically architecture by Gion Caminada. Here is a school gym, cattle housing, and standard living house design.
