Now let's talk about the drawing :P I was searching through the web for some references for the Party and I stumbled upon a height chart, which surprised me. Maybe I'm blind but I didn't realize at first that Will was taller than Lucas and Dustin now. So I drew this piece to show their growth spurts and compare their heights to the beginning of the show. I think it's super cute that Byler are the tallest of the group <3
real picture of me still sitting at the restaurant
still sitting in a corner i haunt. Cross-legged in the dim light. they say “what a sad sight”
just a friendly reminder that mike and will were actually the last two characters to share a look in the entire show
byler as dads would be the parents who use their kid as an excuse to go to legoland when actually they were the ones who really wanted to go to legoland
I am going through the stranger things scripts and i just found this is season one
I AM NOT OKAY
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THATS JOYCES REACTION TO GETTING BACK FROM WILLS FUNERAL.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN JONATHAN KNOWS THAT HE MIGHT DIE WHEN HE AND NANCY GO TO HUNT THE DEMOGORGON.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN "i need some time. Away from him." REFERING TO LONNIE
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THEY HUGGED
WHAT DO YOU MEAN "i told you- you have nothing to be sorry for. So stop saying that" WHAT DO YOU MEAN SOMEONE TOLD JONATHAN IT WASNT HIS FAULT
WHAT DO YOU MEAN JONATHAN SAYS HE WOULD DO "anything" TO BRING WILL BACK AS HE LEAVES TO FIGHT THE DEMOGORGON, KNOWING FULL WELL THAT HE MIGHT DIE
what do you mean this scene isnt in the show
sometimes i think about these clip choices by drew gooden when talking about ST visuals that went nowhere
The very precise way they framed scenes really did feel like it meant something, only to end up meaning nothing.
Will perfectly framed in Dustin's bridge diagram foreshadowing that Will held some importance, possibly being linked to the bridge? No, he played a minimal role in slowing down Henry in the end and didn't provide any real material help, nor was he impacted by what happened.
Mike and Will framed in El's little thought bubble indicate that they were somehow linked together or would be used in her plan? No, Mike just cheerleads El when prompted by Will.
The final shot of season 4 indicating character relationships or pairings for season 5 storylines? No, in fact only one of them would be together by the end, and Will spent more time with Robin than Mike in season 5.
That they told us that the details are important only to act like we were crazy for reading into them like we did is the most insulting part, to be honest.
Truly the devil's work. Never seen a show promise so much and deliver such vapid slop.
“I was looking for answers in somebody else..”
“but I had all the answers.”
“I just needed to stop being so goddamn scared.”
“Scared of who I really was.”
Henry wake mike up jfc.
The suffers: "So, with this fifth and final season, our most important message is that not all crushes are requited. Especially not if you're queer and have suffered through four seasons of humiliation and social exclusion while all of your straight counterparts have - *checks note* - experienced requited love. But fear not, you will receive the bare minimum of acceptance from all your straight friends and family before you're old enough to be shipped off to a far-off city. :) yay.
mike getting really drunk one night when will tells the party that he’s dating and mike breaks out into tears and lucas goes “but isn’t he dating you?” to will and he says “yeah but he forgot” :(
"I hope we can still be friends."
"No thanks, take off your belt."
The whole situation of Will's birthday still gives me fits.
They screwed it up in season 4 by setting the season on his birthday and not only ignoring it, but also coincidentally giving Will a really shitty day on his birthday. There was ample material to work with to simply mention it as yet another reason Will was so angry that day. It would fit perfectly with the Duffers' love of 80s movie tropes and, ahem, "borrowing" from memorable movie scenes. It's right out of 16 Candles, after all, with a family being so preoccupied with other things that they forget their daughter's birthday and the daughter feeling invisible to the object of her affections.
They claim they simply forgot. They wrote it years prior and simply didn't think about it. But it was important enough to fans that it was brought up in interviews in the first place.
And it's the second time they screwed up his birthday, really. While it may have been a random choice of a propmaker, the program for Will's season 1 funeral had an entirely different date than the one the Duffers would eventually write. I could forgive that as them not having a hand in making the original date. For all we know, they never even saw the prop. But they wrote the date of March 22.
Do you not have fact sheets about your characters, sirs? Did nobody in the room stand up and say "hold on, Will's birthday would fall on this timeline, should we include it in some way?"
But, fine, whatever.
One would think, though, that this would be a lesson learned. That they would be more careful with such things when writing the final season.
People in that writers room knew about Will's birthday after that. They knew that it was a frustrating point for fans, that fans notice stuff like this. They started acknowledging Will's birthday every year on social media. They surely wouldn't make such mistakes again, right?
Instead, they seemed to take these inconsistencies to an almost comical level. Now, Will is suddenly retconned to have been 11 when he went missing, and the script says he was 8 in his flashback scenes, including when he met Mike. Nevermind that changing his age in season 1 would put him a year behind the others in school. Nevermind that changing his age when he met Mike would again be ignoring what was said in the shed scene.
Was this just a big joke to them at that point? Did they think taking it to an absurd degree would make it funny instead of frustrating to fans?
One could be forgiven for thinking they had something planned with all this, that it would be woven into the plot that details of Will's past were being forgotten or changed. Hell, they even gave Henry the same March 22 birthday in The First Shadow, so it's not like there weren't people who remembered, even if the Duffers didn't.
So, again, was it all a big inside joke? Is that why the social media accounts would celebrate Will's birthday? Is that why they toyed with his age in season 5? Is that why they gave Henry his birthday? Was it all just a ton of comical overcompensation to placate people they consider nitpicking fans?
What's the deal, Duffers?
The thing that made me think that they were setting something up was that damn camera. What other reason was there to have a guy picking up a huge camera out of nowhere to film El when she was getting bullied, other than for us to see the date down in the corner? Why did he even bring it to Rink-O-Mania in the first place? The bullies obviously didn't know El was gonna be there when they arrived.
I think there was a calendar somewhere in the first episode showing the date March 21 too (correct me if I'm wrong.) It felt like they went out of their way to tell us what specific date it was that day. How many times throughout the show do we even know the specific date for a day? The March 22-coincidence is insane.
And then they have the guts to tell us not to believe in coincidences.
“As my final act of love I will love you in silence forever.”
saw one of loustat and heard the divine call. 💙💛
(ps. if anyone knows the name of the og poet let me know :))
What bothers me the most about Will's epilouge isn't the bar, the cigarettes or the Mike-lookalike date/friend/acquaintance (I won't say boyfriend because boyfriends don't greet each other like that. Sue me.) It's the "he finds happiness and acceptance."
It's the damn acceptance again. The only thing Will was allowed to have as a gay boy on the show. The least he could have gotten was a promise of "happiness and love" for his epilouge.
But I guess that would have been too gay for the suffers and Netflix.
HELP 😭
Not saying ILY is bad enough, but she asked him to help her loved ones understand her choices, and he DOESN'T FUCKING DO IT!
"You understand me better than anyone (lol, they seriously wrote that). Help them all understand."
"El's totally alive guys! She faked the whole thing with Kali's help and is somewhere safe. You just have to believe!"
I remember arguing before how Mike had the ultimate closeted gay pass by having a girlfriend who lived on the other side of the country. He could be her boyfriend without actually having to be her boyfriend and didn't have to worry about the advances of any other girls.
I guess he has one better now.
"I'm sorry, but I'm spoken for. My girlfriend is going to come back someday, so I'm staying faithful to her."
NYC, on the subway 🚇
I like how Mike was supposed to be the d*ffers self insert, but most of the gay/queer depressed teens out there said no. It’s our self insert, not yours. And that’s smth I really enjoy
They can say what they want, but Mike will forever be a closeted gay boy to me.
I hope he finds his way out someday.
