there came an epoch in esti's life -  much  to  the  dismay  of  her  daughter  -  where  the  woman  began  to  house  a  non  negotiable  packet  of  antacids  in  her  purse  at  all  times  .  while  she  never  claimed  to  be  a  cool  mom  ,  this  somehow  struck  the  peak  of  embarrassment  .  and  as  her  daughter  had  dramatically  put  it  ;  she  was  now  only  a  few  short  years  away  from  keeping  a  loose  ,  lint  dusted  pit  of  werther’s  originals  rolling  around  in  the  bottom  of  her  purse  .  but  with  impending  heartburn  on  the  horizon  ,  you'd  sure  be  glad  to  have  esti  next  to  you  .  without  so  much  as  a  verbal  offer  ,  she  slides  a  bottle  of  tums  between  their  plates  . "  i  think  the  question  that  truly  needs  to  be  posed  is  ,  whether  or  not  you'll  have  room  for  coffee  ??  "  the  spread  before  them  looks  like  a  reenactment  of  last  supper  ,  and despite  the fact that  esti  can  house  down  a  full  stack  of  ihop  pancakes  without  breaking  a  sweat  ,  she  has little faith   that  she'll  be  to  help  minho  put  a  dent  in  this  mountain  of  food  .  "  i'm  still  bewildered  at  where  you  physically  put  it  all  .  "

gabe typically avoids underground parking garages like the plague   .  but  on  a  peak-summer  friday  night  in  downtown  willow  glen  ??  street  parking  is  but  a  myth  .  sure  ,  the  concrete  cavern  is  boiling  and  always  smells  vaguely  of  pee  ,  but  at  least  the  spot  is  secured  .  no  stalking  drivers  down  one-way  streets  ,  no  fighting  over  spaces  ,  and  no  stressful  parallel  parking  (  who is even good at that anyway   ??  )  you could circle the block until your gas light comes on , or you could swallow your pride and descend into the abyss . this  is  supposed  to  make  life  easier  .  that  is  ,  until  it's  time  to  leave  ,  and  the  cramped  ,  single-lane  exit  kiosk  becomes  his  nemesis  . the little paper ticket scans with a promising beep ,  and  just  as  gabe  inserts  his  card  to  pay  ,  there's  a  loud  cruuunch  .  a  sound  the  machine  is  unequivocally   not  supposed  to  make  .  it  destroys  the  plastic  ,  effectively  jamming  the  the  reader  ,  and  refuses  to  lift  the yellow  bar  . and   right on cue ,   another  car  pulls  up  behind  him  ,  boxing  him  in  the concrete chute .  perfect  .  "  fuck  ,  "  an  annoyance  lilt  whisper  escapes  as  fingers  slam  against  the  customer  service  button  .  it  rings  four  times  before  spitting  out  a  pre-recoded  message  '  an  attendant  will  arrive  in  30  to  45  minutes  .  thank you for your patience . ' feeling  the  glare  of  the  headlights  still on  his  neck  ,  gabe  kills the engine and  steps  out  ,  slamming  the car  door  .  the  driver  behind  him  needs  to  know  they're  both  stuck  on  the  incline  .  voice  starts  yelling  before  he  even  really  looks  through  the  dim  ,  hazy  light  of  the  garage  .  " the  machine's  fucked  !!  it  ate  my  card  .  it's  gonna  be  thirty  to  f--  "  the  sentence  dies  on  his  tongue  ,  throat  drying  up  instantly as  he  finally  catches  the  face  behind  the  glare  of  the  windshield  .

      a  long,  languorous  sigh  leaves  nisa's  lips  as  she  surveys  the  never-ending  rows  of  tulips  that  lie  beyond,  the  full  moon  casting  an  ethereal  glow  to  the  flowers  as  the  wagon  passes  them  by.  the  tulip  farm  is  absolutely  stunning  during  the  summer  night,  and  the  quiet  ambience  of  the  ride  combined  with  the  spectacular  view  soothes  nisa  unlike  anything  else.  ❝  this  is  just  incredible,  isn't  it  ?  i  can't  think  of  anything  better  than  this,  ❞  she  daintily  stifles  a  yawn  before  leaning  her  head  back,  eyes  directed  towards  the  sky.  ❝  i  honestly  feel  like  i  could  just  fall  asleep  right  here,  right  now  …  or  we  could  count  the  stars  first,  if  you'd  like.  ❞
