Saint Denis Bank Alleged Robbed by Van der Linde Gang
A daring bank robbery believed to have been orchestrated by the Van der Linde Gang took place at nine o'clock this evening at the Lemoyne National Bank, with multiple casualties as a result.
It was first noticed that something amiss when an explosion, believed to have been set off by Mister Hosea Matthews, fifty-five, of the Van der Linde Gang with the aid of an unknown party, rocked the city, and served as a distraction for the gang to enter the bank. Once in the bank the gang was able to infiltrate the vault and take a large sum of cash from inside, estimated to total around eight to ten thousand dollars.Ā
The gang then participated in a deadly shootout with police officers and Pinkerton agents, with several casualties as a result. The fight was sparked when, in an effort to lure the gang out of the bank, Pinkerton agents shot Mister Matthews, who has set the bomb. In retaliation for this, the leader of the gang shot civilian Miss Mary Linton, thirty-two, killing her instantly and sparking gunfire from both sides. It is thought that as many as fifty agents have suffered serious injury or death as a result of the gangās violent actions. Additionally, several civilians were wounded or killed by stray bullets from the fight.Ā
The fighting was ended when another explosion came from inside the bank, opening a wall to a back alley and allowing the perpetrators to escape. It is not known where they are hiding but the sheriff warns citizens not to go looking.Ā
Thankfully not all of the criminals were able to run. Some of the robbers were successfully detained by police, such as Mister John Marston, twenty-six and Mister Lenny Summers, nineteen. The pair are being held in Sisika Penitentiary pending their trials. Another of the gang, Mister Bill Williamson, thirty-three, was shot and killed by Pinkertons.Ā
The Van der Linde Gang, headed by the infamous and dangerous Mister Dutch Van der Linde, forty-four, has killed before in Blackwater, ending the life of an innocent girl while robbing a ferry. These criminals are considered armed and incredibly dangerous. If they are spotted, report immediately to your local sheriff or Pinkerton agency. DO NOT ENGAGE.
