She’d picked up on the person following her about five minutes ago.

She didn’t recognize the scent, and they didn’t immediately make an overt attempt to capture her. The likelihood of them being one of her master’s dogs was slim. Still; she led them on a winding path through the streets, until she ended up in a dark alley.

She turned to face them, eyes flashing.

“Why are you following me?”

Vess stumbles back, blood trickling freely from her nose, bruises and scrapes aching fiercely. She can't go on like this, she thinks as she watches the tiefling advance on her. She has to end this, and end it now.

Vess lunges, staggering haphazardly, knowing in her heart that she is losing, and losing badly.

The wagon that thunders across the muddy path sprays ditch water on Vess as it passes. She stumbles in her rescuer's grip, suddenly pulled free from ankle-deep mud, and shoves him away, alarm flashing through her at the sudden proximity.

"I--" Her heart is pounding. "...Thank you, stranger."

She might be the most dazzlingly idiotic person to ever walk the face of the planet--at least, she feels like one for letting this drow get the drop on her.

The edge of the glaive gleams silver in the moonlight where it presses against her throat. Vess feels the wolf inside her, seething, snarling, hackles raising, and resists the urge to bare her teeth.

"Put your weapon away, and I won't have cause to rip your throat out."
