Blog remodeling time
I have come to the realization that I am very bad at running multiple blogs. All the writing stuff ends up on my main blog, but none of the fandom stuff does, and Iâve ended up not reblogging posts because I donât know where to put them. And I donât tag anything. So over the course of the next few days, I will be:
-Changing my main blog url and theme because this one is three years old and way too fandom oriented for a blog thatâs mostly random sulky nonsense. Iâm leaning towards something referencing my current WIP so the winged wolves will stick around. I also need to draw a new icon
-Shutting down my book blog and queueing all my original bookish posts to end up on my main blog
-Unfollowing inactive and problematic blogs (there is way too much Carve the Mark on my dash) and following new ones, especially author blogs and knitblr
-Taking book and knitting photographs so Iâll have more original content
This blog is going to become inactive in a couple of weeks so if youâre interested in the bookish stuff I post, please follow my main!

IâM ABOUT TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER, BOOK NERDS
Do you like books!?
OF COURSE YOU DO
Do you like reading books?
DUUUUUH!
Do you collect books and let them sit on your shelf!?
WHAT IS THIS!? AMATEUR hOUR? OF FUCKING COURSE!Â
Do you spend WAAAAAAY too much money on books even though theyâre totally worth it but holy fucking shit fifteen dollars is the median and why is the world so effortlessly cruel?
Whoâs got two thumbs and an empty wallet! Yes yes and yes!
WELL HAVE I GOT A SOLUTION FOR YOU
Thriftbooks is an amazing online site that sells used books! These books are, for the most part, in great condition. Iâve used this website for everything from textbooks to fiction to everything else in between! It has a wide selection with an even wider selection of options per book!
You want softcover? Theyâve got it! Hardcover? Of course! Audio? Why not!
Hell! They even sell the books in other languages!
You might say to me, humanity, why are you telling us this? We already have barnes and noble!
Because, my poor, naive friend, thriftbooks sells the majority of itâs books for under four dollars.
Thatâs right. You heard me. Under. Four. Dollars.
And right now, theyâre having a huge deal!
2 books for $7
3 books for $10
4 books for $12
But wait! Thereâs more!
If you leave a book in your cart for long enough, chances are youâll be alerted when a seller nearby, for a cheaper price, has the same book! Youâll get it cheaper and faster, with less waste of paper and time!
And prices change! That book that would have cost you $3.79 one day might be $3.45 the next, and man oh man isnât that the best thing to see when you check up on your cart.
So what are you waiting for, book lovers! Go! Go shop!
Go and rule the world!
Be the book lovers I know you can be!
DID I MENTION THAT THEREâS FREE SHIPPING OVER 10 DOLLARS
DID I MENTION THAT THEREâS ALSO A COUPON CODE YOU CAN USE FOR A LIMITED TIME
type in the word âwelcomeâ when you get to checkout and youâll get 15% off!
DID I ALSO MENTION THAT THERE ARE READING REWARDS
AND THAT EVER $50 YOU SPEND THEY GIVE YOU $5 BACK.
guys
five dollars
on this site
is a book
that is the cost of an entire book
youâre literally getting a free book
I NEED YâALL TO SEE THIS SIDE BY SIDE THOUGH
So to prove my very real point, I went to Barnes and Noble and picked out some of my favorites books that I already have on my shelves
(also, fyi, yâall should read these theyâre bangin)
AND BECAUSE THE SHIPPING IS SO INSANE, IT WAS MEAN TO COME OUT TO $47.85 (and thatâs at an online price, which discounts by a few dollars)
But with shipping, handling, and the extreme cost of books, my total came to this:
$72.30
Okay. Then I went onto thriftbooks and chose the same books in the same formats (hardcover, softcover, etc.)
Keep in mind that not all books are under $4 due to size, availability, how new they are to the world yada yadayada
But this was the final shopping cart.
Look.
Look at those lovely books.
My final check out price?
$21.86
AND THAT DOESNâT INCLUDE ANY OF THE AMAZING DISCOUNTS, DEALS, AND/OR PROMO CODES.
If you do the math, I saved $50.44.
And even if Barnes and Noble had given me that free shipping, I still would have saved $25.99. Do you know what that could buy you? That could buy you four more books on thriftbooks!
Thriftbooks fucking saved my broke college ass. And Iâd encourage you all to use it if you can. Shipping may take 4-14 days, but I swear to god itâs worth every dollar that I would have burned.Â
THIS IS IN NO WAY AN ENCOURAGEMENT TO STOP SHOPPING AT BOOKSTORES. PLEASE DONâT. LOCAL BOOKSTORES ARE IMPORTANT AND VITAL AND SHOULD BE SUPPORTED!
Iâm mostly making jabs at the big name companies, and honestly, my broke bookworm ass needs a break.
A PSA FOR THOSE WHO ARE AFRAID I WAS JOKING BECAUSE THEY FOUND A BOOK BUT IT WAS TOO EXPENSIVE
Donât worry! That happens!
Let me use the example of one of my favorite books in the Series of Unfortunate Events.
Look at that shit. ALMOST THIRTEEN DOLLARS!?
NOOOO WAY!
But wait?
Whatâs that tap at the top that says âall editionsâ?
Click it!
There, you can choose hardcover, softcover, foreign language, and all that good stuff at different and competing prices!
AND VOILA!
Not my favorite cover, but it sure as hell is my favorite price!
And you can do this with any book!
Now go! The power of fair pricing is in your hands!
IMPORTANT NOTICE
STOP WHAT YOUâRE DOING
THIS SHITâS ABOUT TO GET REAL!
HEY THERE BOOK NERDS
ITâS ME AGAIN!
SICK OF ME YET!? IâM SURE YOU FUCKING ARE!
BUT DO I HAVE ONE LAST (lol as if) PIECE OF NEWS FOR YOU!
INTERNATIONAL BOOK NERDS! GUESS THE FUCK WHAT! I HAVENâT FORGOTTEN ABOUT YâALL
Thriftbooks doesnât ship for free for my international peeps out there. And Iâm sure they were feeling real left out. So I picked up my book nerd ass and hauled over to see if I could find new ways to get yâall the same opportunities!
GUESS WHO CAME THROUGH AND DID SOME GOOD SHIT.
This right here is a link to BetterWorldBooks
They have the same ideals and morals as Thriftbooks, donating to schools, recycling paper, and funding low-income libraries!
AND GUESS WHAT
THEY SHIP FREE INTERNATIONALLY!
IâM NOT JOKING
THIS IS REAL!
look. at. this. shit.
this is some good shit.
You might not find the exact savings, but I did a comparison of two books just to see how much different it was. I used one of my all-time favorite books, The Devil in the White City, and saw the difference in prices between the two!Â
Hereâs Thriftbooks
And hereâs BetterWorld
Itâs only 39 cents off!
And yeah, there are some items just a little bit more expensive. But guess what! FREE INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING! So itâs worth the extra dollar or two if you can keep from paying way too much just to get those books to your doorstep!
SO GET OUT THERE, BOOK NERDS! GO AND BUY, HOARD!
AND READ READ READ!
The spear makes Inej look like an assassin of some sort. And the knifesâŚ
My babes Nina and Inej, all girly and violent â¤ď¸Â
I think Nina gave Inej that spear because pointy.
So this is what happened today. No selfcontrol whatsoever. And the worst/best part is I get to do it all over again tomorrow!
Top 10 reasons to read Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
#1 Dr. Jesper Fahey
âWhy is he looking at me this way.â (Kuwei)
âKaz is wondering if he should keep you alive,â said Jesper. âTerrible for the nerves. I recommend deep breathing. Maybe a tonic.â
#2 True Friendship
âAre you hungry? We have chocolate biscuits.â (Nina to Inej)
âOh sure,â said Jesper. âShe gets the cookie hoard.â
OR
âIâd tell you to ask the White Blade, butâŚâ Inej shrugged.Â
âI hope she suffered.âÂ
âNina.âÂ
âWhat? We canât both be merciful and serene.â
OR
âYouâve saved my life. Iâve saved yours.âÂ
âI think youâre ahead on that count.âÂ
âNo, I donât mean in the big ways.â Ninaâs eyes took them all in. âI mean the little rescues. Laughing at my jokes. Forgiving me when I was foolish. Never trying to make me feel small. It doesnât matter if itâs next month, or next year, or ten years from now, those will be the things I remember when I see you again.â
#3 The student becomes the teacher
âWylan Van Eck, you lied to Kaz Brekker.â Jesper clutched a hand to his chest. âAnd you got away with it! Do you give lessons?â
#4 Mature and responsible adults
âI have been very patient with all of this, Jesper, but I am at my limit. I want you down here before I count ten or I will tan your hide so you donât sit for two weeks.â Colmâs head vanished back down the stairs.
The silence stretched. Then Nina giggled. âYou are in so much trouble.â
Jesper scowled. âMatthias, Nina let Cornelis Smeet grope her bottom.â
Nina stopped laughing. âI am going to turn your teeth inside out.â
âThat is physically impossible.â
#5 Once again  Kaz being the bastard of the Barrel, the demon full of tricks, the mad man everyone feared  a 17 year old with a crush
His eyes scanned her face as they always had, closely, hungrily, snatching at the details of her like the thief he wasâthe even set of her dark brows, the rich brown of her eyes, the upward tilt of her lips. He didnât deserve peace and he didnât deserve forgiveness, but if he was going to die today, maybe the one thing heâd earned was the memory of herâbrighter than anything he would ever have a right toâto take with him to the other side.
OR
She smiled then, her eyes red, her cheeks scattered with some kind of dust. It was a smile he thought he mightdie to earn again.
OR
Inej laughed, her hood falling back from her hair. âThatâs the laugh,â he murmured.
#6 Grisha characters cameo
Kazâs eyes narrowed. âSturmhond.â
âHe knows me!â Sturmhond said delightedly. He nudged Genya with an elbow. âI told you Iâm famous.â
Zoya blew out an exasperated breath. âThank you. Heâs going to be twice as insufferable now.â
#7 Jealous?! Me?! Never!
Kuwei turned to Jesper. âYou should visit me in Ravka. We could learn to use our powers together.â
âHow about I push you in the canal and we see if you know how to swim?â Wylan said with a very passable imitation of Kazâs glare.
#8 True love understands
âYouâre better than waffles, Matthias Helvar.â
A small smile curled the Fjerdanâs lips. âLetâs not say things we donât mean, my love.â
#9 Â Iâm not crying. You are!
âI would come for you,â he said, and when he saw the wary look she shot him, he said it again. âI would come for you. And if I couldnât walk, Iâd crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, weâd fight our way out togetherâknives drawn, pistols blazing. Because thatâs what we do. We never stop fighting.â
#10 Nice and peaceful things
âGenya Safin knows poisons like no one else, and David Kostyk developed all kinds of new weapons for King Nikolai.â She glanced at Matthias. âAnd other things too! Nice things. Very peaceful.â
okay but guys think about it. one day weâre going to have all these books with queer characters and disabled characters and poc characters, and theyâre going to be well-written and not just laughingstocks/token representation, and itâs going to be a common occurrence and thereâs going to be this whole generation of kids thatâs going to be able to look at these books with these characters and think âthatâs meâ without having to struggle to find them and honestly thatâs so beautiful.
