I actually woke up this morning and was thinking how insane it is that the world didn't burst into flames hearing the voice recording of a six year old trapped in a car with her dead family pleading for someone to help her. How has that recording alone not move mountains? Or the fact that the official crews who coordinated with the IDF to go rescue her were killed along with her? Where is that story now? Where did people shelve it? How did things move past this one documented story, let alone the tens of thousand others?
i think it's interesting and very, very intentional that Sinners has specifically an Irish person as the symbol of oppression. Something something, "oppressing someone who's farther down the line than you so you can hope to climb a system that, in reality, is not interested in you being anywhere than you are". if this is a bunk reading, i'm very sorry!
It's not a bunk reading! That is an intentional choice, the point in fact. Of someone from a group who could have- were he not a vampire, but that's symbolism- come and built community with his Black peers so that he, too, could reconnect with his ancestors and descendants. Because he lost his to the British! He lost his humanity and his people and his culture to the violence of white supremacy similarly. What he yearned for is something we as Black people could sympathize with, as a people who had to create an entirely new culture because ours was violently ripped away from us.
But instead of, ya know, doing that... Remmick (the Irish Americans), both literally and symbolically chose to take advantage of the existing violent system towards Black people to get a leg up. He was going to get what HE wanted, he was going to feel the power and community that HE wanted, be damned who he had to destroy to get it. As evidenced by him knowing that the two white folks he killed were aspiring Klan (if not already) but lying dead at the door that they weren't. He just did the same thing the British did to him, to us.
It doesn't make him not a victim of violence! But it does show that he made a CHOICE to continue to enact that violence on others to assuage his own loss.
(im not Black but indigenous) i think a VERY important conversation yt "leftists" refuse to have is that most of the time racists/racism isn't thinking word for word "I hate Black people" but more like "stealth" believes about POC yt people just accept as true and never really care to look into, the action of never questioning (why are Black characters always portrayed as x, why are certain music genres or clothing styles being seen as less serious or artistic, how do you picture a hypothetical criminal or a successful bussineman and why...). Refusing to understand racism isn't always literal neon sing self warning style is taking us soooo back on activism imo.
"Color blind" racism was the smartest tactic white supremacy ever pulled, fr. Can't call me racist if I 1) don't say anything overtly and 2) teach my children that racism means saying things overtly! A whole replicating system of lying to one selves.
i hesitated for a bit on sending this before, as it'll directly doxx where i live, but this is so important that i think it needs coverage.
on jan 22, 2026, jaque ramon was shot 11 times in the back and murdered by (at least) three unidentified san bernadino sheriff's department officers who refused to identify themselves when filmed and confronted at the scene.
they just. left jaque there. for paramedics to pick up. we still don't know why in the world they thought this could have ever been a necessary response to an unarmed Black man, no matter his supposed crimes; the department refuses to properly comment on the situation.
i have not been able to support his family financially because i am going through extreme hardship right now. however, this is my community, and this is my home; i try to be there for the gatherings (every 22nd, on the monthly anniversary of his death, at place it happened, by the petco across from the tyler mall) i can make it to.
if any of you can please help boost & support his case and his mother's gofundme, please please please do so.
we think the media has been suppressing his case, so there's been very little coverage even locally. despite being very involved in my community, both i and many others did not even learn about this until very recently. please try to signal boost, share, support, etc if you can. it is so important word gets out there.
jaque's mother is struggling a lot, too. i haven't been able to talk to her much, but it's very plain to see for anyone who sees or talks to her directly. she deserves answers, justice, and peace.
i feel like irish-americans have even less room to claim we are somehow less racist than other white americans. lest we forget about the mind-boggling racism early irish immigrants to america adopted? How opposed they were to the abolition of slavery because they were scared Black people were going to take their jobs? it's an uncomfortable truth but we gotta accept that irish-americans are not only not less racist, we're Extra racist. suffering doesn't make people kinder. it just makes us suffer
The Irish came to America in the eighteenth century, fleeing a homeland under foreign occupation and a caste system that regarded them as the lowest form of humanity. In the new country – a land of opportunity – they found a very different form of social hierarchy, one that was based on the color of a person’s skin. Noel Ignatiev’s 1995 book – the first published work of one of America’s leading and most controversial historians – tells the story of how the oppressed became the oppressors; how the new Irish immigrants achieved acceptance among an initially hostile population only by proving that they could be more brutal in their oppression of African Americans than the nativists. This is the story of How the Irish Became White.
I've been meaning to read this one once my booklist clears up some. But this is that unspoken bit that a lot of people watching Sinners just happily skipped right over when it came to Remmick's identity.
cray-z how neutral pronouns, the singular they, are like hey weve had this linguistic concept for several hundred years now and you know how it works for other stuff, so try and apply it to the concept of gender, and I'd like you to think about me that way. and people go you should be torn apart by dogs for attacking my way of life.

so you're telling me the fifa world cup is all men? its all men's teams? and so is the superbowl? and all the sports teams that states are known for and make copious amounts of merch for are also men's teams? and only 5 women have ever entered formula one since its inception in 1950 and only two of them were able to compete? and this is normal? its acceptable?
I am standing beside my only sister’s hospital bed, watching her grow weaker in front of my eyes, unable to do anything but cry.
I cannot imagine a world without Lama, I cannot lose the last person I have left.
We are trying to raise only $400 to provide the urgent anti-inflammatory treatments she needs, but this small amount means the difference between Lama’s life and losing her forever.
The doctors told us that time is running out… If Lama does not receive her treatment today, I may have to say goodbye to my little sister forever.
