Anya Taylor-Joy as Emma Woodhouse – EMMA. (2020)
ㅤㅤㅤSunlight flicks it's tail onto the gravelled route laid ahead of the pair. Sunbeams bounce onto Rhaenyra’s hair, it's bite not nearly as strong as it once had been a few moons prior. Winter is coming, she tells herself. Winds from the north blaze in and dance on the porcelain she has exposed to the sky, quickly turning the princess regretful that she had not placed a thick sheet of imported leather upon her constricted shoulders.
ㅤㅤㅤWith every step, Rhaenyra's conscience grows thicker –– the watching eyes of the realm trickle down her spine as if poison from a vine leaf. By the time she and Emma slow down and come to a halt, Rhaenyra's head leans to the side and she sighs before contemplating what exactly to say to the lady, who's already spoken so much of her mind that Rhaenyra feels there is not more to say.
ㅤㅤㅤThin eyebrows furrow as she turns to the girl beside her, eyes squinting in view of the sun.ㅤㅤㅤㅤ❛❛ㅤㅤMarriage, at the station I hold, will only ever be transactional. I've always understood this feat, but I do not think, Emma, that a love match could ever find itself to me before my father and his council deem it time for me to marry. ㅤㅤ❜❜
ㅤ༝ㅤㅤ“ㅤㅤHearts, like flowers, cannot be rudely handled, but must open naturally.ㅤㅤ” sent by @woodh0use. ⋆ /̳/ ⁾͢ ᦑ
ㅤㅤㅤ❛❛ㅤㅤYour words are warm... [ she looks to the floor, before finding her way up to Emma's face once again ] I'm not sure that this idea could make it's way to me. But it's not something I grieve over, I've known it to be true all my life. ㅤㅤ❜❜ㅤㅤㅤㅤand a smile inches out of her face, as if it doesn't very much belong there. In a quick change of pace, to try and lift the subject from her own issue, Rhaenyra continues on the path, steadily walking once again;ㅤㅤㅤㅤ❛❛ㅤㅤWhat about you, my lady? Are you yet betrothed? ㅤㅤ❜❜
Emma’s mind does considerable work to banish the thought of Mr. Darcy.
In truth, the situation has caused great inner turmoil in the heart of Emma — no matter how much care she controls to hide it. There is a sense of longing that she cannot define, and that has often sent her into an irritable mood. He is after all; often disagreeable and equipped with a cumbersome perceptiveness. Despite this, Emma smiles, and tilts her head backwards. Her eyes glaze over in the dancing sunlight of spring. “ Me? No, princess — I find my heart belongs to the act of bringing others into union. ” Now does her nose twitch, despite the practiced grace that rests upon her expression.
“ Which is why — ” Emma pauses, suddenly overcome with a realization. “ I propose I procur a match for you. One that is certain to provide you satisfaction.” Perhaps not a perfect match — but Rhaenyra and Mr. Darcy both stood as acceptable marriage candidates. Joining the two would allow Emma the chance to rid herself of these inconvenient thoughts surrounding the latter.
She finds herself, for a brief moment, wishing she was able to bury her face into her pillows.

you came back.
of course i came back. i couldn't let them... oh, this is all my fault.
if only i had gotten here sooner.
maybe it's better this way.
don't talk like that. you'll be all right. we're together now. everything's going to be fine, you'll see.
at least i got to see you... one last time.
no! no! please, please don't leave me! i love you.
i want to do something for her, but what?
there's the usual things. flowers, chocolates, promises you don't intend to keep...
it has to be something very special. something that sparks her interest.
wait a minute!
isn't this amazing?
i'm afraid i've been thinking.
she's never looked at me that way before.
how can you read this? there's no pictures!
some people use their imagination.
i want adventure in the great wide somewhere.
i want so much more than they've got planned.
that hurts!
if you hold still, it wouldn't hurt as much.
if you hadn't run away, this wouldn't have happened.
if you hadn't frightened me, i wouldn't have run away.
you should learn to control your temper.
hold still. this might sting a little.
by the way, thank you for saving my life.
how could you do that?
i had to.
now we invite you to relax.
this is the day your dreams come true.
what do you know about my dreams?
imagine that.
i'm speechless. i really don't know what to say.
say you'll marry me.
i just don't deserve you.
if it's not baroque, don't fix it.
i thought i told you to come down to dinner.
please, attempt to be a gentleman.
will you come down for dinner?
you can't stay in there forever!
that didn't go very well at all, did it?
it's no use. she's so beautiful, and i'm... well, look at me!
try to act like a gentleman.
if i didn't know better, i'd think you had feelings for this monster.
he's no monster, [name], you are!
who said anything about the castle being enchanted?
who are you? what are you doing here?
you are not welcome here!
what are you staring at?
shower her with compliments!
i've been burnt by you before.
close that at once!
i was trying to be hospitable.
there may be something there that wasn't there before.
i'll tell you when you're older.
may i have my book, please?
don't talk about my father that way!
i'll show you to your room.
you might want to offer her a more comfortable room.
why did you come here?
i warned you never to come here!
do you realize what you could've done?
is anyone here?
your hands are like ice. we have to get you out of here.
i want you to leave this place.
who's done this to you?
no time to explain. you must go! now!
you must promise to stay here forever.
come on out and fight!
were you in love with her? did you honestly think she'd want you, when she had someone like me?
why don't you read it to me?
the castle is under attack!
we must do something!
you always say that.
did you have a good time in town today?
it's just that i'm not sure i'd fit in here. there's no one i can really talk to.
you did it! you really did it!
the castle is your home now, so you can go anywhere you'd like.
there's a stranger here.
will no one help me?
you will join me for dinner. that's not a request!
i know he looks vicious, but he's really kind and gentle. he's my friend.

He sees her as he walks into the ballroom, standing alone, watching the dance floor. He wonders who she might be looking at. He's never been good at reading expressions, but she seems proud - delighted, almost. He walks toward her, his guise remaining severe, despite his desire for a positive conversation.
" I would think you one to enjoy dancing, Miss Woodhouse. " he states, finding a place next to her against the wall. " It confounds me to see you sitting this one out. "
Emma stands, a beautiful stalk of golden wheat, in what she will never admit was a means of capturing the attention of Mr. Darcy. A folly? Perhaps — and one that could’ve easily stranded her all night on the outskirts of a wonderful party, had it not worked. Excluding herself from amicable society led to the approach of the company she wished to keep, despite the many attempts to lead her plan astray … her father in particular was anxious over her distance. Three times did he send for her, and three times did she assure him that she was indeed feeling well, and was certain to be joining the festivities quite soon.
Now she must play the part of unassuming, so she bites the inside of her cheek, casting him a warm glance. “See there? ” She points towards the jovial crowd, picking out the face of her beloved Harriet, who is quite clearly exhilarated in her dancing. “ Sometimes, it is pleasure enough to bear witness to the happiness of one’s dearest friends. ”
hi….
EMMA (1996)

❛ did anyone see me fall? ❜
“ What matters is you have perfectly recovered. Come, I will ensure your balance is no longer tested. ” Emma does not wait for an answer, but instead links her arm with that of Posy’s, endearing herself to her. She is sure a few wandering eyes had indeed spotted the fall — but their opinion is of no significance. Emma does not find use in furthering Posy’s obvious embarrassment; not for such a gentle creature, not for short-lived entertainment. She looks over with a knowing smile, dropping her voice to a hushed whisper. “ Could the cause of your mis-step be the entrance of any particular gentleman? ”

❛ You must never ask me that. ❜
❛ Are you afraid that you will change your mind? ❜
❛ You must come and fetch me in my dressing room at midnight exactly. ❜

❛ Were I to fall in love, indeed, it would be a different thing ; but I have never been in love ; it is not my way, or my nature ; and I do not think I ever shall. ❜
❛ Indeed, I am very sorry to be right in this instance. I would much rather have been merry than wise. ❜
❛ If I have not spoken, it is because I am afraid I will awaken myself from this dream. ❜
❛ If a woman doubts as to whether she should accept a man or not, she certainly ought to refuse him. ❜

❛ Full many a flower is born to blush unseen, and waste its fragrance on the desert air. ❜

❛ Evil to some is always good to others. ❜
❛ I certainly will not persuade myself to feel more than I do. ❜
❛ She is loveliness itself. ❜
❛ Time does not compose me. ❜
❛ A man always imagines a woman to be ready for anybody who asks her. ❜
❛ I do not find myself making any use of the word sacrifice. ❜
❛ I am quite enough in love. I should be sorry to be any more. ❜
❛ I must tell you what you will not ask, though I may wish it unsaid the next moment. ❜
❛ I examined my own heart. And there you were. Never, I fear, to be removed. ❜
❛ With all your little faults, you are an excellent creature. ❜
❛ You have another long walk before you. ❜
“ How would I know if you are like most? This is my first time making your acquaintance. ” And this much is true. He has surely heard her name in passing, amidst the gossip and chatter of society, but he has never been one to engage in such conversation.
“ I don’t believe I have a disposition worthy of study. ” he states, a sense of reservation overcoming him. Really, he is unable to understand her persistence in conversing — he assumes she would be far more interested in dancing.
“ I cannot avoid being seen Miss Woodhouse, my station in society forbids that. ” he remarks.
“ Then I am glad to have informed you. ” Though if she were to admit — Emma had suffered great injury at the fact he had not called on her for the three weeks since his arrival. Internalized, yes, and carried with a merciful grace; but an injury none the less.
“ Yes, yes, we’ve all seen you. But surely appearance is not the entirety of one’s character, no? ”
