Could we maybe have a few head canons of how pre-dating Aventurine and Wriothesley are durring flirting/pining? I feel like that's a very cute concept. You just have such a good understanding of their characters.

How do I put this without sounding judgmental… Aventurine tends to show off his colorful feathers, so-to-speak. That peacock motif of his isn’t just to look pretty; he’s quite the flaunter. He knows that wealth and beauty are desirable, and he is both wealthy and beautiful; why not use that to his advantage here? It comes off rather fake, though he’s a good performer, so it might take you a little while to really understand just how fake it is.
He’s a cynic, at least he tries to be, but there’s a small, hopeful part of him that really does want to have that connection. Internal conflict is the defining word for the earlier crushing stages. On one hand, he wants to impress you and make you oo and ahh with all his resources. On the other hand, he’d rather you not get involved with him; it’s not safe, and you don’t deserve to be tied down by someone with such dirty hands.
Still, he will indulge himself just a bit. It’s not his smartest bet, but it’s thrilling, and that’s all he’s chasing. He loves the high he feels when he’s with you, like he’s on top of the world. You put him on top of the world, with your big smiles and giggling. And he puts you on top of the world, spending every credit he can to make sure that smile remains. Even if you tell him not to, if you insist you’ve got this one, he’ll pay for it under the table.
He tells himself it’s just for his ego; it’s no secret it’s big (at least he tries to make it appear that way). Yet, his softness for you suggests otherwise. Often, you’ll catch him staring at you as you indulge in something he’d paid for. It’s not really an affectionate look; his face is expressionless when he does this, but inside, he’s melting. Everything about you is so endearing to him; it’s dangerous for him.
He wants to just hold you like a normal person, wants to have a level of intimacy that feels safe and easy for him, but it’s not easy for him. It’s why he drowns you in money. That’s the only way he knows how to make you stay, and it’s the only thing he has he feels is of any value. He knows intrinsically – moreso what he believes – that all he has to offer is his credits, and that’s really all you’re here for.
He cannot love you in a normal way, which is why he avoids it. He’s affectionate and giving, but unreachable, always just out of your grip. Always making you wonder what he really wants.
He is entirely in denial of his love for you until it’s way too late. The “having fun” is an excuse for him to ignore what’s actually going on, and when he realizes it hits him in the face like a brick wall. He retreats, runs, pretends nothing ever existed there at all.
From lovebombing to absolutely nothing. It’s not healthy; he doesn’t handle his feelings for you well. It’s a toxic cycle of push and pull, but it can be broken; you just have to make him see that. Aventurine is not mentally well; he has a lot of unhealthy traits, and these are especially prevalent at the start of the pining process. He needs patience, but he wouldn’t blame you if you gave up on him. That’s the point.
Thank god he’s here, he’s wayyyyy less depressing.
Wirothesley’s pining is certainly… different. He’s rather special because, while he tends to deny himself like Aventurine, he doesn’t really engage in the same toxic tactics as the gambler does. He’s aware of his feelings for people, and tends to just ignore them unless he believes something can actually be made of them. Which… is usually not an option.
Furthermore, he tends to assume that the person he is interested in would not enjoy the life he leads. Sure, they like him, but living the rest of your life with your boyfriend who doesn’t like to emerge from below sea level…? Yeah, even he wouldn’t want to compromise for that.
It also takes him a while to fall for anyone; even if they have feelings immediately, he just doesn’t consider it until long after they’d given up on him. However, if you somehow manage to stay interested, don’t mind the trip, and continue to pester him, then he’ll actually consider it. It’s not immediate, of course, because he’s still giving you outs. He really wants you to take them. But if you still don’t, he guesses he can indulge himself a bit.
It’s interesting how he goes about it; it’s incredibly casual and almost like nothing changes. It’s not his thing to make a big deal out of stuff like this; it’s delicate after all, he’d like to take it slow and feel it out. No need to rush something like this, after all. It’s super easy to go at his pace, though you can set it if you’d really like to; he’s willing to follow your lead, too.
Somehow, he makes even simple things like talking feel intimate and warm. Maybe it’s because you know his time is precious to him, and he’s choosing to share it with you. Maybe it’s because he goes out of his way to include you in his daily schedule and make you privy to the things in his life. With someone as private as Wriothesley, it’s hard to deny that when he lets you in like this, it’s special.
It’s natural how easily your relationship slips into this stage. He doesn’t allow himself to do the whole pining and waiting around thing. So, he skips it altogether, and he lets things progress naturally. It always feels like you’re talking to your best friend, like you can do anything with him and have fun purely because he’s there. Trust me when I say he feels the same about you.
It’s strange for him to be so gentle with someone; it’s not exactly what he’s known for being good at, but it comes easily. You’d never be able to tell how much of a disaster he is on the inside. He finds you just endlessly charming, and he cannot stop his brain from overloading when you’re around. His relaxed demeanor hides this well, but trust me, he’s falling apart at the seams for you.
Luckily, Wriothelsey is good at saving face, so you’ll never know how he daydreams about swaying around his office with you and kissing you gently by the fireplace. He’s weak; forgive him.
