"Do I deserve this?" "Am I worthy of this?"
So irrelevant. Do you want it?
how life starts to feel when you fail and for the first time in your life you think ‘whatever, I’ll try again’
Enough with bedrotting and also enough with living your life through the veil of Routines and Habits. What u need is to live ur life like it’s a bizarre 1969 avante grade art film documenting the life of an 18th century poet and musician through abstract visual-poetic representations
the point of art is not to be great but to make it transparently obvious that there is something wrong with you
I’m a patron of the arts (I leave nice comments on aO3).
I assure you: somebody, somewhere, is on the exact same wavelength as you are.
to you, it's a shitty sentence. to some random bitch 500 miles away, it's a fire line that'll haunt them for the next 17 years.
you don't know how impactful your writing is because it's been in your brain for far too long now. you've stared at it for hours and repeated "this sucks" over and over again to the point that you killed your capacity to feel anything about your work.
but trust me, once you get your shit out there, someone's gonna go over that paragraph you hate and go "jesus fucking christ" and put the book down to have an existential crisis.
2024 is the year we stop “consuming” and go back to “reading/watching/listening to/playing” things

People used to comment on web comics.
People used to comment on fanfiction.
People used to comment on fanart.
People used to comment on OCs.
I hate "content" culture.
I hate "consuming content" and scrolling immediately to the next thing.
People used to be excited about the art that other people created.
People used to want to share that excitement with creators.
I hate this future.
Once someone tagged art that I made with "woah" and I think about it at least once a week. Someone else said "oh neat" once. Someone else WROTE A WHOLE DAMN POEM IN THE COMMENTS. Anyways even just one word can change how someone sees their art. You don't even have to think about it too hard. You could put a keyboard smash and I'd probably cry from joy.
I'm also trying hard to interact more, I understand that it's hard to break away from opening your phone and being in Content Consumption Mode.
I honestly hadn't stopped to think about this until I saw this post... I used to think people would get annoyed if they were notified everytime someone posted a comment on their art. I never thought about it being like fanfiction and that they might appreciate comments. Frick, that means I'm part of the problem on here. Thats gotta change.
Every tag, every comment, every reblog with some kind of reaction/opinion or even just one word. All of these things are precious to creators!
I spent countless hours reading and rereading tags full of love people left under my art. All the people i could gift a laugh to or even inspire with something I made mean more to me then you could ever know.
It's what makes me proud of my art!
And to think that you could have enjoyed my art in silence and I would have never known.
so oooo many people in so many fandoms are holding themselves back from the art they want to create because they fear The Discourse and it's the most depressing thing ever like PLEASE stop clipping your own wings and create whatever art you want to. whyyy do we have to live in a panopticon it's so frustrating just make whatever!! be free!!!!!!
Friendly reminder to not punish yourself for creating.
Can you elaborate on what you mean by this?
I have a tendency to beat myself up whenever something I make doesn’t meet my expectations (which is always). The result is that finishing something = bad feelings: I am effectively punishing myself for having created something. The natural reaction to this punishment is an aversion to creation, meaning that my perfectionism is harming me, not only by causing me to despise what I do make and by impeding the creative process, but by attacking even my desire to create.
I think everyone should make dumb ugly zines and bad music and write shitty books with weird premises and publish them for pay what you will online. I think people should write plays that are only ever intended to be performed with their friends in their living rooms. I think people who like ttrpgs should explore bizarre itch.io games and new systems that have no affiliation whatsoever with any major publishing house. If youre lucky enough to have a cool local community radio station nearby you should listen to that and what people close to you have to say and what they’re creating that has no focus on being nationally appealing. I just think creation should be more joyful and local both in a geographic sense and a personal and social sense and unconcerned with whether or not it will be commercially viable or slick or even good beyond your own pride in it. And I think it’s good to seek out art that exists for its own sake or to appeal to the community it was created within
I'm being very brave today
Your body must be rested and fed if you wish to be a pervert.
