The doc is in fact getting a rework. Her new blog is currently under construction and will be promoted here soon.
Total rework coming up. Iāll decide whether to shine this blog up or move entirely when I wake up later.

Tracer (freaking out): You nearly ran over Moria!
Mercy: Shit...
Mercy (throws car in reverse): Let me try again.
Tracer: NO
Regardless of the fact that Moira had in fact managed to strike Angela where it hurt, and aside from the impotent anger quietly burning below the surface, she recognized that she had never seen Moira so low. Not when she had been effectively terminated from Overwatchās laboratories; not when their relationship had come to a screeching halt; not at the whim of any hardship or misfortune that had befallen her throughout the duration of their association. Moira was liable to lash out in anger, but this was another thing entirely.
Presently, Angela recognized she needed space to manage her tempestuous emotions. Nothing could be gained by lingering here, as if she had the time to do so much longer. She was surprised she hadnāt yet been paged. This was far from over, however, and Moiraās unkind assessment of her usefulness would not be a permanent deterrent. Not when there was someone so precious to her at stake.
Back to what mattered to her, then.
āI am.ā Softness negated whatever vindictiveness could have lingered. āIāll be back tonight once Iām off duty. Until then, be kind to Kris. Heās doing his best. Tell him the truth when he asks after your needs.ā
There was nothing more to be said--at least, nothing that could be said without aggravating wounds further. Angela gathered her resolve and left, sick at the idea of Moira festering in her imagined helplessness.
Apathetic cruelty was no less apt to strike Angela in tender places. Dramatics and complications aside, Moiraās perspective was still of keen importance to her--even when the balance of power was so effectively shifted in her favor, as little power as she had here. A great stretch of time stood between the present and a past in which sheād had to endure statements like these regularly, and despite the experience and accomplishments sheād accrued in the meantime, Moira made her feel painfully small.
Angela was no longer at the genesis of her career with too much optimism and too little fortitude, however. Moira had endured something terrible, but that did not give her an excuse to abuse as she liked. The doctorās wilted expression soon hardened. Her palms rested flat on her thighs, her shoulders held stiff, chin lifted in a show of muted defiance.
Moira was right. Angela had entrenched herself too deeply in a situation well out of her own control, and it seemed that she had less pull within the confines of her organization than she had in its prior incarnation despite promises to the contrary. There was little she could do about that in the present moment, but she would not be made to feel powerless as a means of displacement for another.
āIām pleased to hear that you know volumes more regarding this situation than I do. However, Iām not twenty-five anymore, and I will not endure your redirected frustrations. I will continue to manage your case and seek further enlightenment on what is intended for you. Youāll not be cruel to any of my staff--I will check. They are only here trying to help, as am I. Thereās no need to make others suffer because you feel too low to mind your tongue.ā
And with that Angela rose. She did not cross her arms, but it was a mindful effort to the contrary.
āIs the current pain management regimen effective?ā
Moiraās hands kneaded together impatiently above her lap. The Irishwoman practically grimaced with the strain of anticipation twisting behind her eyes. Knowing how visibly anxious she was only added to her general discomfort about the situation. Even after what felt like an eternity of having her pride brutally stripped from her very being, the older scientist still had so much farther to fall.Ā
āNothing.ā She puffed, disappointment a razorās edge in a single word and angled to Angelaās throat.Ā āIt only makes sense⦠What a waste of time.ā Her tone was dismissive and bleak. In an instant Moiraās once determined eyes had dimmed before they squeezed shut, her brow creasing with the pain that persisted in her limbs even as she lie there. Sheād been expecting anything but nothing. A warning of some kind; a date for a hearing, rumors⦠Anything would have been better than nothing.Ā
She knew it was wrong to blame Angela, and try as it might, the desperate weight in her chest couldnāt stop resentful words from rising to her lips and singeing her tongue.
āSo, youāre useless to me then.ā She hissed,Ā āOut of all the miserable, blasted fools in this operation, how is it that the only person I can even remotely depend on canāt offer me the slightest inclination as to why the hell Iām even here?ā Moiraās hands raised beside her head as if to pass over her hair only to drop to her lap again, balling empty fists out of sheer frustration.Ā āThis is completely inhumane! Iām not a fucking animal!ā
Differing impulses culminated in the sickening, guilt-ridden drop of Angelaās stomach. The insecure desire to snap back in her own defense was soothed by considerable experience in trauma and emergent medicine, if only haphazardly so. There was no correct, uniform response when having suffered through trauma--and Moira was presently faced with more still than the physical injuries which would likely haunt her for the rest of her life. Her future was plagued with uncertainty, fogged over by pain and physical limitations, by the mental scars left after such an event, and the ever-present fear regarding what, precisely, Overwatch intended to do with her.
Angela could solve the pain. She could dedicate herself to the improvement of Moiraās condition and, with the appropriate allocation of time and resources, most likely return her to full comfort and functionality. She could do little to negate the suffering Moira had already endured, and certainly she could not heal wounds of the mind, but she could at least be present in an effort to offer the necessary support.
The cold, unfeeling vindictiveness of the poorly resurrected organization she stood for cared little for one doctorās pleas. There was nothing--in that regard, she was useless. Fear of her own incompetence clouded her judgment and loosened her tongue, but copious self-control and still-flickering affection for the woman before her guided forth still more gentleness.
āIām trying.ā
And god, even to her, it sounded like a pathetic excuse. Blue eyes dropped to her hands, clasped in her lap. She needed to breathe. This wasnāt about her, Angela reminded herself. Moiraās ire wasnāt personal; she needed support now, as well, not shallow attempts to solve the situation.
āI will do all that I can for you, Moira. Rosales wonāt tell me anything, but I can try. And in the meantime, I will continue to monitor your case and see to your recovery. Thereās not a deterrent potent enough to dissuade me.ā
Back in the thick of things. Fifteen weeks minus one day to go.
I'm not going on hiatus, but I'm going on a sort of an extended lurk. I may reblog things, I may interact sporadically, I may even reply. It just depends on my life and my mental state.
