Hook's mug of hot tea launched into the air and then came raining down on him, both figuratively and literally.

"BLAST IT, PAN!"

It was early. The crew was all asleep below deck. Hook's eyes had barely even fully opened yet... but he was wide awake now.

"MORNING?!" he raved up at Pan, motioning with both hand and hook to the side of the ship. "It's hardly light out!"

This was the last time he'd tell Smee to get him up early. Before he could dwell on it any longer, the captain gave a growl and freed his sword from its scabbard, metal glinting with the image of his own reflection.

Then he charged at Pan.

Pan couldn’t help but fall into somewhat of a fit of giggles as the Captain jumped in response to being startled. They hadn’t expected such a reaction, but they’d certainly gotten one !

A small gasp — and then Pan laughed as they flipped themself over, landing lightly on the deck and drawing out their dagger.

“ You shouldn’t be starting the morning off with high blood pressure, Captain ! ” they said with a grin. “ What about going for a nice swim, instead ? I could call in a friend to join you ! ” The crocodile seemed inclined to follow the ship around, anyway — it surely wouldn’t be difficult to call him over !

"Ah, it's nothing," Philip claimed, pulling his hand away. He didn't like touching people, and he didn't want to prolong the handshake any further than was absolutely necessary. "Don't fret over it. Man-eating plants just... happen in your realm. It isn't like one could simply... oh, I don't know... practice landscaping! Hah!"

The bearded man punctuated that sentence with a single, isolated laugh, just barely seeming like someone who's been trapped in this horrible place for way too long and has started to lose their mind and spiral over all the terrifying creatures that lurked inside every shadow, and how not even the plants could be trusted...

... Well, he hoped it was barely. He probably wasn't doing as good a job at hiding that as he thought.

Before the silence could grow any more oppressive, he adjusted the lapels of his coat and turned an eyebrow up at Aspen.

"Curious things, you say?"

“ Practice landscaping … on land that isn’t theirs ? ” Aspen tilted their head. Brows furrowed slightly, pointed ears tilting down at a slight angle. They leant against their staff, wooden bird perched atop it just above their where their hands rested. “ These plants grow wildly. You’re outside the extent of the town’s walkways, after all. ”

Philip’s laugh leads to a small, weak laugh of Aspen’s own. Worried— for the human traveler. What was he doing there ?

“ Well … of course. People are curious over that which they haven’t seen before. Humans aren’t exactly … frequent visitors to this realm. ”

as i said in my activity announcement, i’m somewhat starting fresh with threads. i’m going to post a couple of replies that have been in my drafts, but otherwise, feel free to send things in ! ( as listed in my muse list, i’m most likely to respond somewhat more to things for my strong muses, but all of the muses listed are available ! i will be slow overall but i’d like to do some writing ! )
