Hey y’all – my debut collection of poems just came out today. It is, as the title and cover suggest, about pro wrestling. There’s also a section of comics by myself and Scott Stripling. It is $11.95 from OPO Books and Objects or $14.95 at Amazon.com. Here is a poem from the collection –

For “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, Auctioning Off His NWA World Heavyweight Championship I remember your brag that a good pair of alligator shoes cost more than a house. What do those shoes now satisfy? Can the soul be minted tender? Can blood? These are what you have to offer now. Both things are spoiled, but they’re yours to give. At bars, you are paid to drink. At baseball games, the same. You tell stories about drinking with old friends. Are they not here? A Rolex watch, a private jet, one night with a perfect woman: All things you say I cannot have. But I have had you, and still can. Walk the aisle for me Nature Boy, until you’re no longer able. I will let you rest. I will swaddle you in a sequined robe.

A Quick Update

It’s been two weeks since we’ve posted anything here at ol’ Wrestling School. We’re sorry! But we’re working on some exciting things that you might like to know about, and Scott was working through some wrist pain. We’ll be back with #13, the Sleeper Hold, next week, but here, in three quick bursts, is what you can expect from us in the relatively near future:

An official, off-Tumblr website.

A physical collection of the first 12 strips, in zine format.

A narrative comic about a person who is in wrestling school, navigating the very bottom of the professional wrestling scene to achieve her dream of becoming the best wrestler in the world.

Scott and I are pretty excited about all of this, and hope you are too. More details, sketches, etc. to follow, but, in the meantime, if you like what you’ve seen so far, how about helping us out by spreading the comic around a bit? WRESTLING SCHOOL 012: ATOMIC LEG DROP

So I wrote a comic about Hulk Hogan and then Hulk Hogan went and had a lot of stuff about his racism leak, and now he won't stop retweeting people who are tweeting him pictures of their black friends to say that nobody finds them racist. I had Scott draw the comic anyhow since he's wanted to do the Leg Drop since we started talking about this project. What'cha gonna do, brother?

So while the timing is probably a little unfortunate, this strip is pretty much about how Hulk Hogan makes every world event and important conversation about him, somehow, as if Hulkamania stopped running on anything more than fumes beyond Starrcade '97. He's a chump, and those pterodactyls in panel two should be plucking out his liver for all eternity.
