☎ (idk i just want a Gretchen interaction ^^)
☎ my muse drunk dials your muse
Gretchen wasn’t really in the right frame of now, but that didn’t stop her from pulling out her phone and scrolling through her contacts. She’d just gotten back from a party where she’d had more than a few drinks. Yeah, she was drunk. One name in particular stood out to her, as it always did. Claire. Without a second thought, her finger tapped the name, and she then tapped the dial button. Maybe Claire changed her number by now… it had been a while after all. But it was ringing. Whether it was still Claire’s number or not, she’d soon find out.
Claire listened hard. There was silence for a moment, and then some shuttering, or the what was likely a noise that has just barely registered over their intricate phone lines. When Gretchen’s voice finally filtered through Claire felt overwhelmed by everything she’d been missing.
The two of them, hiding from the world in a college dorm. Holding hands with someone never felt so right. Sunlight filtering in through the bamboo blinds of the center window, falling in a cascade over her dark hair.
Bliss couldn’t last. Not when the world was changing, not when Claire was the one pushing them forward. One televised jump later, life had no room for hiding.
Something was different in Gretchen’s voice, in the familiarity there was something comfortless. Claire closed her eyes, took it in, before continuing, “Yes, hi Gretchen, I know it’s you. Caller-ID, and what not.”
"Right! Of course, you know it's me. I haven't changed my number since we-- since I last saw you." The good news was, Gretchen was feeling a little more sober. The bad news, of course, was that the sudden rush of feelings: regret, sadness, bitterness; was the reason for that. Why did she ever think this was a good idea? "I just thought I'd see how you're doing, since it's been a while since we talked. We were gonna stay friends, right? You kinda fell off the radar, there." That wasn't quite fair, but it wasn't as though she could take the words back. It was entirely possible that Claire had stayed silent because she had more important, more dangerous things going on. "I'm sorry. If I'm bugging you, we can just forget this ever happened..."
