Home is where the heart is - Shiro x Reader
anon requested: shiro x reader where shiro is super sad because he hasnt been home in so long and while the reader is comforting him, he asks them why they dont seem to miss home at all and they answer that shiro is their home now??
A/N: Iâm so sorry this took so long to get out, Iâm now working 6 days a week so itâs difficult to find the time and energy to write, but I hope this is worth the wait, thanks for the request :D Also I tried not to be very specific about Shiroâs family/home because we donât really know anything about it from the show
âItâs so beautifulâ Y/N gasped as she gazed out over the white sand of the beach far below them.
âItâs...Just like homeâ Lance said from beside her, a wistful longing in his voice.
In fact, the whole team was looking at the beach longingly, including Allura who had heard many stories about the fun that could be had on beaches.
âSay Shiro, after weâve loaded these medical supplies do you think we could have a beach day?â Lance asked hopefully, justifiably excited by the prospect.
Shiro sounded genuinely saddened when he had to burst Lanceâs bubble âSorry Lance, but after this we have to escort the supplies and the refugeeâs to their next destinationâ
Lance visibly deflated and the rest of the team began grumbling in discontent.
âWell then, weâll just have to remember where this beach is and then when weâve beaten the Galra into the dust we can come back here and celebrate with a beach partyâ Y/N said in an attempt to lift everyoneâs spirits.
It seemed to work. There were nods all round and Lance instructed Pidge to make a note of the coordinates for the future. Shiro shot Y/N a grateful smile, to which Y/N only replied by taking hold of his hand and squeezing gently.
The rest of the mission went quickly as they talked about what their ideal beach party would include and filled Allura in on human concepts like volleyball, surfing and barbecues.
It was few hours later, after returning to the castle and Y/N found herself curled up with Shiro, on his bed. Her head was resting on his chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heart whilst he ran his fingers through her hair.
âThank you for what you said earlier Y/N you really helped lift the teams spiritsâ Shiro praised as he pressed a kiss to his girlfriendâs head.
âNo problem, Iâm now really looking forward to this victory party. Surfing, food, seeing you in a swimsuit, not sure it could get any betterâ Y/N replied, smirking.
Shiro chuckled âWell I for one am looking forward to this war being over so that I can go homeâ his voice had grown solemn, and upon looking at his face Y/N discovered that his smile had faded, replaced by a sad frown.
Shiro had never really talked too much about his family or home, heâd mentioned his parents a couple of times and she had heard a few stories about him growing up; but other than that heâd never brought it up, and Y/N hadnât wanted to pry.
âYou really miss home donât you?â Y/N asked softly, slightly surprised when Shiro nodded. Shiro had never really expressed much homesickness, at least not as much as the rest of the team. But then, that was Shiro all over, he masked his real feelings to stop anyone worrying about him.
âYeah, I do. I try not to think about it too much, but going to that beach today...Well it just brought it all to the surface I guessâ He sighed sadly and stared at the ceiling.
âWell weâll go back to Earth...Eventuallyâ Y/N finished lamely, struggling to find the words to console him. After all, they both knew that beating the Galra was a long way off and that they might not survive to see Earth again, there was no point lying about that.
âYeah and when we do...Iâd like you to meet my parents, I think theyâd love youâ Shiro said hesitantly, clearly nervous.
âIâd like that, then I can hear all sorts of embarrassing stories from your childhood and Iâll get to see all your baby photos...Think of the blackmail materialâ Y/N said gleefully, that brought a smile to Shiroâs face and a laugh to his lips, before his expression changed again as he seemed to realise something.
âDo you not feel homesick Y/N?â Shiro asked a concerned look crossing his features as he stroked her cheek gently.
âSometimes, but whenever I do, I come to see you and it all just sort of disappears. I guess itâs because youâre kind of my home now, when Iâm with you I feel safe and warm, and at the end of the day I canât wait to get back to youâ Y/N explained, hoping that Shiro wouldnât think it was weird or clingy for her to feel like that.
It seemed her worries were unfounded as he wrapped his arms around her and placed a kiss on her lips before answering âYeah, I know the feelingâ.
