Why are people suddenly acting like Sylvanas’ actions are shocking? It’s terribly consistent with her character. Let’s not forget the exact same thing happened in Gilneas. She was there to capture the kingdom, she heard something she didn’t like (”Garrosh says don’t use chemical weapons/You can’t kill hope”) so she has a tantrum, destroys her entire plan and salts the earth.

She’s always been morally repugnant with aspirations to wipe out whoever she didn’t like. That or the Royal Apothecary Society got the memo wrong with how they kept talking up the plague they wanted to use to get rid of those pesky living people as far back as Vanilla. Once she had the power of the Val’kyr in Cataclysm she used them to expand her power base (”…bulwark against the infinite.”), and now she has the resources of the entire Horde she’s moving on to Stormwind/all of humanity (Before the Storm).

WoW’s always had and continues to have massive, glaring issues with inconsistent character personalities, but Sylvanas being morally bankrupt and going further down the Lich Queen rabbit hole (which even Garrosh calls her out on) has been on the tracks for a long, long time.
