I needed this drag. Let’s change guys and not look back
working out your brain is a must!!
• hydrate it by drinking lots of water
• eat dark chocolate and blueberries and walnuts and salmon and other foods high in antioxidants!!
• play little brain games on your phone; I like wordconenct! anything that makes you think!
• read books. It’s simple but necessary. Even better - join a book club, or read with a friend, so you can have discussions after. This will improve your reading comprehension.
• do puzzles - it doesnt have to be sudoku, I love playing Beat Saber on the Oculus Rift because it makes my brain have to match colorful patterns to physical movements very quickly!
• learn a new dance - even a tik tok trendy dance. Learning new dance moves are proven to strengthen synapses!!
• go bird watching, or foraging, or anything outdoors that requires you to explore pattern recognition and visual searching
• watch a movie with the intent of analysis - this is best done with a cinephile friend!! talk about tropes and symbolism and character growth
• cross stitch, or sew, or do anything that requires matching nimble hand movements to patterns
• play or learn an instrument!
• develop a consistent sleep schedule (or as close to consistent as you can get!)
• when eating, try to identify the ingredients and flavors you’re perceiving!
I hope this helps :)
I like how this went from me feeling like “hm why is this attacking me 🤨” at first, but feeling grateful seeing an added guide on a genuine expansion on a “ how to” work out the brain. This genuinely helps a bunch. People find solace in doing activities that get them through life by doing said activities of phone/tv or if that’s all they’ve ever known in their life to get them through things + etc tho. However, this was very impt to point out. Slowly beginning incorporating things to work the brain in ones own time.

this is not by any means an original thought but there are few people #society hates more than those it designates as cowards. see, among other things, the proliferation of "anti-war media" that still shows characters who don't want to fight because they're afraid for their lives as despicable. well i think not only conscientious objectors who get put in prison for their pacifist beliefs but also all the men who broke their legs on purpose or lied about being asthmatic or underage to avoid having to kill or be killed made the world a better place
Blind people must save a lot on electricity.
They do actually!
I had a blind professor, last semester, and I swung through his office to make up an exam. It was a while before I knew he was in there because he was sitting with the lights off. I finally went in, apologized, and took the exam by the light of a nearby window (which was fine). Forty-five minutes into dead silence he panicked and yelled in this booming voiced, “WAIT, YOU CAN SEE!!!” before diving across his desk to turn on the lights. I’m sure he was embarrassed but I thought it was endearing and it highlighted a large aspect of disabled life that I hadn’t previously considered.
Sort of relatedly I once had professor who was deaf, but she had learned to read lips and speak so she could communicate easily with hearing people who didn’t know sign language. One day she had gotten off topic and was talking a little about her personal life, so that one of the students said “Oh, I know, I grew up in Brooklyn too.”
She stared at him for a long time and then said “How do you know I’m from Brooklyn?”
And he said “You have a Brooklyn accent.”
She said “I do?” and the whole class nodded, and then she burst out laughing and said “I had no idea! The school where I learned to speak was in Brooklyn. I learned by moving my mouth and tongue the way my teachers did. So I guess it makes sense that I have their accent, I just never thought about it.”
My moms a sign language interpreter, and she’s signed with people from all over the US. According to her, when she signs with people from the south they sign with a “drawl.” They have slower hand movements and exaggerate certain parts of the sign. People from the Midwest sign very fast and people from the south sign very slow.
So we were at a restaurant once and my mom started interpreting for someone who was trying to order and she was like “oh you’re from the south!”
And they were like “how did you know that?”
And she said “you sign with a drawl.” And they were really surprised that it came through that much.
It’s really interesting that even when not speaking verbally accents and heritage come through.
Humans are so fucking fascinating
i keep thinking about how jesus had a physical body. he got hungry and thirsty. he ate and felt pleasure in what he was eating. he got tired. his feet got blistered. his back and shoulders ached. he got overwhelmed from being in company for too long. he slept and had dreams. maybe he had nightmares. he had the warmth of a physical body. he sweat and bled. he was a carpenter and had rough, carpenter’s hands. he had favourite tastes, smells, and sensations. he had a shoulder you could learn your head on- he leaned his head on other people’s shoulders. he probably swam in the sea of galilee on hot days in high summer. he had scars from his work- not scars from his crucifixion, scars from being a woodworker, a carpenter. all builders have scars. he had a particular smell that was unique to his body. he felt sexual arousal. he felt desire. he was desired. we are obsessed with the body of christ when it suffers, when it is broken apart for us, but i am in love with the body that simply lived.

Heya, so I really struggle with this a lot and I was wondering your take on it. How do you deal with God's apparent silence? Like as if They have abandoned us in this day and age? Thank you in advance 😊
God has never spoken to me in a literal sense, ever in my entire life. I don't expect God to speak to me, and if God did, I would be a little skeptical about what I was hearing. God's primary language is silence. Once I started listening to this silence, God's presence became overwhelmingly apparent.
