Natures Journey -Robert Sadlemire - Myrtle Beach, SC - Metal - 9’ x 10’ x 5’
Artist Statement - This sculpture entitled “Natures Journey” is a visual symbol reflecting the collective efforts of the individuals working together objectively to save an endangered species. Expressing the desire to insure the survival of this majestic beloved world traveler is my intent.
The mechanical process and freedom of forming ridged metal into a representational image that appears to be in floating in motion; to inspire and evoke thoughts is my objective in this art statement.
As if frozen in time, this sculpture will stand as a tribute and an inspirational symbol of love for all those who have helped in the sea turtles journey and its survival!
As a metal artist and fabricator, form and motion has been an obsession through out my processes over the years. I have had a long time interest and curiosity in inventing my own machines, allowing me to take something as hard and cold as metal and turn it into a soft and fluid almost seemingly impossible work of art.
My mechanical curiosity and desire of manipulating metals from functional to conceptual, has been the common denominator from the very beginning. I have created and invented methods and machines that shape metal into works of art. Over the years my work has evolved from exploring representational imagery, making steel seems as if it is soft and flowing using my signature spiral techniques to the now conceptual geometric motion sculptures.
When I am commissioned for a project, there is an excitement to solve the vision using my mechanical experiences and methods of structural theory. I have had a mechanical freedom in my soul that has grounded my conceptual thoughts, with the discipline of the reality of metal.
The exploration is to unfold my creative process into works of art that can explain known and unknown mysteries of the life's struggle.
Natures JourneyRobert Sadlemire - Myrtle Beach, SC
Metal - 9’ x 10’ x 5’
My name is Robert Sadlemire and I am a conceptual structuralist, metal artist. With more than 30 years of metal fabricating experience, I specializes in custom built grand staircases, gates, historic restorations, replicas and monumental public sculptures.
I have designed and created such works as the iconic sculptural ship replica at the historic Charles Towne Landing in Charleston, S.C., a recreation of a 40 ft historical cornice for the Lower County Council of Savannah, and an early 1800s cornice replica on top of the Williams- Sonoma Building located on King St in Charleston, S.C. My most recent sculpture is an Earth Sphere Water Sculpture located at the Sumter Technical College in Sumter, S.C. and a 24 ft contemporary monumental sculpture for the Horry Georgetown Technical College in Conway.
My goal as an artist and metal fabricator is to work personally with each client, discovering the aesthetics and goals for the project, ensuring a finished work that fulfills the desired aspirations and delivers a unique product created by artistic integrity, quality construction and craftsmanship.

With over 25 years of experience, this art form of working with steel and aluminum is mesmerizing. Materials that are so cold, unbending, rigid and unforgiving, until they are made to appear fluid and graceful in the talented hands of metal artist and sculptor Robert Sadlemire. Through his many years of trial and error, not only has he been able to master bending steel but to curl and weave it, bringing the metals to a new level of inspirational functional art. - See more at: http://www.sadlemire.com/#sthash.tW5YItVL.dpuf

Robert Sadlemire, the proprietor of Sadlemire Metal in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Specializes in more modern designs for the ornamental aluminum and steel tubing estate gates he fashions.”Some people do like to live a bit in the past and have the old feel of security you get with iron,” he says. ” Other clients are more open-minded and want something really different and cut me loose.” A metal sculpture artist by training, Sdlemire describes his style as combination of old and new school. His more modern creations often incorporate a fluid, free flowing floral motif – oversize manna leaf, palm trees, tangles of vines and may incorporate classic elements like scroll work. ” It really depends on the client” he says. ” Most clients want a lavish gate that fit to their personality.” His clientele tends to prefer basic black, occasionally opting for faux finishes, copper or hand wiped textures that create a centuries old aged look. ” High worth individuals really don’t want to shout, “look at my home,” he says. Most of Sadlemire’s designs take up to three months to organize and two to six weeks to fabricate on machines he’s process that gives him a competitive edge and prevents others from copying. www.sadlemire.com _ Nancy Theoret
