The truth is that despite everything, wei ji gets jealous easily.
He might not show it but he tends to get jealous a lot— it could be someone bragging about their relationship or maybe someone finding comfort in another person...wei ji can't help but feel a little insecure of himself
Wei ji has actually attempted a few times in the past . He's tried hanging himself , poisoning / overdose and literally everything else. Of course they're all unsuccessful — either he gets interrupted or it just fails and chickens out last minute.
His mind often wanders to suicide when even the smallest 'inconvenience' comes up . Perhaps a kusuriuri had raised their voice at him or insulated him for doing something wrong. Perhaps he didn't get chores done on time and felt useless. Perhaps he had said something he shouldn't — whatever it is , its not easy for wei ji to forgive himself.
He wonders if he were to succeed... would anyone notice ?
His room is pretty far away from the other kusuriuris rooms. Would they smell his rotting flesh ?
Would they notice that wei ji didn't make breakfast the next morning ? Or if wei ji was out doing laundry ?
A part of him wants to be acknowledged , perhaps even make the others feel guilty for it . Yet he knows deep down that he's been enough of a burden already .
The kusuriuri should just go about their day without worrying about him dangling in his room .
Finished at last, and happy Hinezumi Day! This is Project Pharmacy, my rather long-winded love letter to all of the original characters in Mononoke which spawned into existence since the first lore drop confirming the existence of more than one medicine seller in Mononoke's quickly expanding universe.
This was a project I began October 2024, and it has been nearly a year since then. There are a total of 251 Kusuriuri and 89 Shingi in here, and that's not including all the cameos of canon characters and creatures.
I am rather exhausted, but hopefully in the coming weeks I can share out the individual characters inside this massive illustration. For now, have a few close-ups!
