So, something did happen that was causing his star navigator to act out of the ordinary. Sighing in mild irritation, Cook narrowed his eyes as he spoke. “Normally I wouldn’t be getting into private matters between members on this ship, but I feel the need to remind you Abel, that we are at war here. The Colterons could attack us at any moment, so we must make sure that we are ready at all times. If you walk around this ship with your mind on other matters, you’ll never be completely focused on the tasks given to you. Even if you say that you won’t let your problems interfere with work, I can’t automatically take your word for it. That being said, we’re going to sit down and discuss this to get this matter out of the way. Take a seat.”
Standing up, Cook walked over to his office door, closing it and locking it before taking a seat back at his desk. “Fill me in on what is going on.”
Unfortunately, there wasn’t much Abel could even do. When Cook made a decision like that, there was no doing back from it. If Abel tried to say no, he’d be talked down to and probably scolded. Or worse, kicked out.
“...Yes sir.” He set the tablet down on the desk close by and moved to where one of the chairs that was there, eyes downcast and hands folded across his lap nervously. He never talked about his fights with Cain to anyone, so this was bound to be awkward.
“...where..do you want me to start at? It was only a fight, but..”

It was only when Cook heard Abel’s voice over the intercom that he suspected that something was wrong with his best navigator. Abel had always sounded so cheerful and confident whenever he was addressing him, but todau, he didn’t sound like himself. “…Come in.” Watching Abel enter the room while not meeting his gaze was already something else out of the ordinary. Was there something that he needed to tell him? Did he manage to mess up on something? He’d have to find out for himself. Ignoring Abel’s offer, Cook looked up at Abel, a small frown on his face. “You’re not yourself today. Whatever it is that happened Abel, you need to forget about it during the day or it’ll interfere with your work. I hope it has nothing to do with you and Cain.”
“--Ah, no, sir. It had nothing to do with Cain, but..” Why did he say ‘but’ in front of him. Now he was going to have to tell Cook everything if he asked. There was no point lying to the Commander. Maybe if he could try to weave his way around it and talk about the data he had gotten.
“I won’t let anything between Cain and myself interfere with work. I..realize how important all of this is. Believe me. But, you can rest easy knowing it wasn’t anything he did..” But now it sounded as though someone else had done something.
Was he that irritated that he was messing up his wording in front of Cook?
“I wouldn’t laugh at you. I’m not that much of an asshole, you know…” Cain murmured, pressing his lips together into a straight line as he stared down at Abel, hating the fact he could feel his cheeks start to burden the more he looked into his eyes. His heart was pounding heavily against his chest, making him wince over how annoying it felt. Damn it.
“Mmm?” Wet locks of raven hair fell to a side when the fighter tilted his head and raised an eyebrow, somewhat expecting the navigator to continue his sentence, but only getting his nickname in the end. Even the way he said it was enough to make his chest tighten. It was so soothing, everything about Abel was.
“What is it, princess?” Eyelids closed half way through as he leaned down to hover his lips near the other’s own, feeling his warm breath against the cool skin while arms wrapped tightly around him, pressing his hands on Abel’s back.
“I’m...I mean, I just..” Abel looked away for a moment, cheeks coloring further when he felt Cain’s hands go around his back, forcing his fingers to curl against his skin and one to move up against his neck to run up into his wet hair. He always liked how Cain’s hair look all the time, but seeing it wet was..somehow even better.
“It’s weird that I’m feeling like this. Normally I’m..you’ve made me into someone who just asks for what he wants in a really up front way or does it himself, but..” He looked up at his face again and started to tug his face closer towards his own, eyes starting to half close and head tilting further in.
“..do it to me..” Eyes closed all the way as he pressed his lips to Cain’s, fingers tightening against the wet strands of hair to tug at them.
“You mean to tell me, you didn’t plan to get this far?” Cain snorted, turning his head to avoid making eye contact. Of course he was going to joke about it, how else would he deal with something like this? Even the vague answers he gave were enough to make his stomach twist over how vulnerable he sounded. He was as lost or even more as Abel.
“…I think that’s enough of a shower for today.” He tried to change the conversation into a lighter subject, one that didn’t involve the way he felt towards the navigator. “Just…don’t get over sensitive, please.”
“I don’t know. I just sort of spoke my mind and..that happened. I wasn’t going to tell you because I was worried about what you might say in return or..laugh at me or something.” He sighed and nuzzled his face to his shoulder further before pulling back to look at Cain’s face, smiling a little to try and ease the nervousness away.
“We didn’t even get cleaned up though. And I’m..not over sensitive, it’s just...” His cheeks were coloring more at this point, staring at Cain’s face and being so close to him. Naked, even. He didn’t want to end up asking to do it on impulse, but with the way he was acting right now..
“Misha..”
Mm… well, he supposed having someone to talk to wouldn’t be such a bad thing. Not that he did a lot of that on his own, but Abel seemed like he’d be someone nice to listen to. Maybe he could ask about his life before the Alliance. He didn’t seem like a colonist, probably from Earth like Phobos.
Giving a soft nod, he moved toward the direction the mess hall was in. “Alright… lunch then..?”
“Of course!” Abel nodded and started to move himself towards the mess hall, motioning for Deimos to follow him from behind. It was what he was going to do anyway, and he was surprised that Deimos had agreed so easily.
“Is there anything you’d want to talk to me about? It doesn’t have to be personal or something you don’t want to share. I mean, just..anything that’s been on your mind lately.”
His stare shifted as soon as realization hit the other and cheeks began to heat up, giving them a red faint tint from the embarrassment of being confronted about it. Shit. Was it really necessary to clarify what he meant? Couldn’t he just leave it like that?
The fighter gulped, hands slowly moved down from Abel’s body. He could clearly hear the way his heart was beating with such intensity, pouding in his ears loudly to the point of making him anxious. It was pathetc the fact his hands were shaking and shallow breaths left his lips before he dared to look at his navigator with a serious expression, lips pressed together into a thin line. He nodded, furrowing his brows together. God, he hated all this.
“You heard me.”
“I..I know.” He just wanted to make sure he was hearing correctly. This wasn’t something he expected right now, only hoped. And yet Cain was saying it in his own way. Did he really mean it though? It would definitely be awkward later if he was only saying it for one reason or another.
Right not he didn’t care. His heart was pounding too hard against his chest to want to worry about it, and all he could do right now was press his face back against Cain’s shoulder and closed his eyes, arms winding around his back once more.
“..I don’t know what to do right now.”
@sleipnircook
It had been a while since Abel was called to Cook’s office to give his daily reports, but today was worse because he wasn’t in the best of moods, and no doubt it was going to end up showing on his face.
Brows furrowed as he stepped in after announcing he was here via the intercom, holding his tablet to his chest and walking inside without making eye contact, different with how he usually was.
His fight with Praxis over whether or not Cain had said this or what was still bothering him, and he needed to let off his frustrations somehow. Just not on Cook. That would be bad, and unexpected of him.
“I..have everything here sir, if you care for me to read my report to you.”

Glancing down, onyx hues searched for any sign of emotion on the other’s face, anything that would give away that he had been sincere. Cain still couldn’t believe that Abel felt that way and that only made things the more dangerous between them. One of these days, he might realize that everything Praxis said was true and he wouldn’t trust him anymore. Cain had given him plenty of reasons not to and yet, he remained loyal by his side.
‘But what if he finds out about Commander Bering’s plan? What about the whole issue of Deimos following him around under Cain’s orders?’ There were plenty of things that would prove the kind of garbage he was as a person and what would happen then? Would Ethan hate him? Ask for reassigment? The only thought made his heart shrink, visibly wincing in response.
But until that day comes, I’m gonna take care of you like you’re my own. Hesitant, the fighter liftened his arms to place them around the other’s waist, pulling him against his frame and holding tight as if his life depended on that matter.
“I…I do too, Ethan.”
“Huh..?--Hey wait..” When the arms wrapped tighter around him, he almost lost his footing since he had started to pull away at the time, but he straightened himself up fast enough and let his hands rest over top Cain’s shoulders and curled there hesitantly as he waited for some sort of response.
“You ‘do too’..? Do too..what..?” Was it from something he had just said in his streak of sentences now? It didn’t really make much sense to answer with a response like that considering what was said. Could he be talking about what Abel said when he--
...what?
“Misha..? Are you..trying to actually say it back to me..?”
And in that moment, he froze. Cain remained still with wide eys and mouth gaped open in awe as his brain processed the words that the other had spoken, ringing louder each time in his head like an echo, His hands remain hanging at each side despite the desire he had to wrap them around his navigator’s waist. He just couldn’t believe it.
Abel, no, Ethan loved him.
…And yet, he was hiding things, risking both of their lives by pushing him to his limits just so the Commander was satisfied with the result. His promise of freedom once this war was over seemed meaningless compared to Ethan’s life, even if that meant going back to prision.
His body shuddered when he shot his eyes and exhaled sharply through his nose, trying to come up with something, anything to say that wouldn’t make him seem vulnerable. Nothing. He couldn’t even think anymore and perhaps, that was for the best because it was without thinking that he rested his chin on top of the blond’s head and hands pressed against his back, moving back and forth to carress the skin.
“…I know.”
“...I knew you’d say that.” Even though he wanted someone else for an answer, hoping that if he told Cain how he really felt that he would end up telling Abel the same thing. Though Abel barely knew anything about Cain and he didn’t know how he truly felt about him. That was the scary part, and here he was laying his feelings on the line.
“Or..I guess I wish I had gotten something else out of you, but that wouldn’t be very ‘Cain’ like, would it?” He gave an almost saddened smile that Cain probably hadn’t seen with how his face was hidden, nuzzling the skin of his shoulder before he pulled back to look at him.
“What you just said though...was good enough for now. I’m shocked you even said as much as you did. You don’t really see someone like you getting sort of..I don’t know, romantic? It sounds funnier now that I’ve said it.”
