Some of these women don’t have the privilege of living the lives of your typical professional footballer. A lot of them have to train at 5am in order to spend their days working a 9 to 5 job or studying at university in order to make enough money to live sufficiently. But people STILL undermine them and continue to ignore the passion they have for life and for football and I think we need to appreciate these women for that.

These girls are absolutely incredible. They’ve all fought so hard to be here. One of Australia’s players worked in a cafe to make enough money to be able to come to Canada. One of Costa Rica’s players was sent to a psychologist when she was younger because she wanted to play soccer and her parents thought something was wrong with her. There are so many stories of these ladies overcoming the steepest odds just to step onto this field. They’re such warriors and I have so much love and respect for all of them.
