Butterfly Kisses || Introductory Drabble || Rogue + Fedora
She had been watching him for a while now, studying his features intently as he did the same to a small creature resting atop a leaf. He would look back to her occasionally with a small smile and a nod, as though checking she was still there, and she would respond with the averting of her eyes and a blush, only to return to watching him as soon as his face was turned back to the insect. God was he handsome; everything from the way the corners of his eyes crinkled when he smiled and the way his eyebrows quirked, punctuating his sentences as he spoke, to the small bumps on his skin and the frequent bags found under his eyes. To her, at least, his flaws only made him that much more perfect.
Several people had walked past them as they stood about a foot apart in soft, comfortable silence; some looked and stared as though the pair were aliens, with bright green skin and heads big as beachballs; others became silent as they walked by, transfixed by the seemingly perfect moment in time captured by the couple. But Fedora couldn’t care less; she was happy, and with the love of her life. Others could wait - this moment in time was theirs and theirs alone. It belonged to no one else.
Taking a quick step towards Rogue, Fedora let her fingers brush lightly against the back of his hand, stroking up and down against his skin. Turning his head to face her, his eyebrows perked “Hm?" He murmured quietly, trying not to disturb the groups of butterflies fluttering around in the air.
“Nothing” She whispered, resting her chin on his shoulder and wrapping her arms loosely around his waist “Carry on inspecting, Mr Gadget” She added, still whispering, with a content smile. Peeling her arms from around him, Rogue took a step back from Fedora and turned around fully to face her, taking both of her hands in his and pulling her close to his chest before letting go of her hands again so he could embrace her himself. Still he remained silent, his mouth a neutral line seemingly void of emotion. It was his eyes that gave him away, filled to bursting with love and affection that he couldn’t help but try to hide away.
Looking up to his face, Fedora smiled a wide and happy grin “You’re being cuddly~” She said quietly, resting her hands on his chest.
“Am I?” He looked down to face her, his eyebrows raised.
“Yes~” She punctuated the word with a kiss to his cheek “It’s nice. I like it.”. Rogue could never quite bring himself to say those three little words but that didn’t matter to her. She knew he felt it when he did things like this; his embrace was his own strange way of confessing his love without actually having to say anything. Baby steps, as she thought of it.
“It’s not so bad” He landed a kiss on the tip of her nose, resting his forehead against hers. “I think the pollen might be getting to me - you know I’ve actually read about pollen making people-” Fedora cut him short with a quick peck, causing Rogue to let out a small grunt of shock, before holding her hands on his neck as she pulled away,
“Shush. You know I don’t get all of that science mumbo jumbo” She joked, with an exaggerated dismissive gesture.
“It’s not mumbo jumbo. I know, though - you get kisses, not science” Rogue nodded matter of factly, trying to suppress a smile as he pulled her into another kiss. Fedora giggled into his lips before pulling away from him and out of his arms, keeping a hold of one of his hands as she headed for the trail path.
“Go for a walk?” She asked with a grin, pointing off into the woodlands
“Sure. Perhaps we could try to spot some orange barred sulphur butterflies...” Rogue said, starting to walk down the dirt track with Fedora, their hands entwined and swinging back and forth between them like a pendulum. Shaking her head with a roll of her eyes, Fedora laughed; of course he was just thinking of the wildlife. He never had been the adventurous sort. “What?” Rogue asked, one eyebrow cocked, confused as to why she was laughing. “Did I say something funny?”
