When you find me || Jameson & Xavier
The more Wash wiggled in the arms, the more James just wanted to put him down. Once the dog seemed to have calmed a little bit, he set the lab down, listening to Xavier’s words. “Yeah, I remember that announcement. It’s good of you to be looking. I feel bad that I haven’t been.” Jameson watched the dogs as they wandered about, shaking his head. “I haven’t seen them. If I had, I woulda said something.”
James turned just in time to see Cooper take off after Wash. “Has to be. Cooper would never run like that.” He turned completely, starting to follow before looking back at Xavier. “Come on, maybe it’ll lead you to Rose and Lieven.” At first he just tried to follow, but when he couldn’t see the dogs, only hear them, he started to run. He didn’t want to leave Xavier behind but if it really was nothing and his dogs got into trouble, he would be the one taking the punishment.
After rounding a corner, he found Wash scratching at a door, Cooper behind him as the two barked. No one should be in the rooms up on this floor anymore, it was too damaged for anybody to stay in. James came to a skidding halt in front of the door, placing his hand on the handle, jiggling it with no avail. Shooing the dogs aside, he hit his shoulder against the door roughly.
"Anyone in there? Hello?" But the dogs kept barking, though it was mostly Wash. Groaning in frustration, Jameson took a step back and tried again, smashing his shoulder again into it again. It took a few more tries before it actually snapped, opening. He felt through, stumbling before regaining his balance. "Xavier," he called behind him, "come in here."
The barking concerned Xavier. If Jameson thought something was wrong, then it most certainly could be. He did his best to keep up, running through the concaved halls and jumping over debris. He rounded to the corner to see the dogs scratching at the door. It was locked as well which Xavier knew was wrong. There was an uncomfortable feeling at the bottom of his stomach as he watched Jameson breaking down the door. He couldn't move from his spot, scared of what would be on the other side of the door. If the head they had found in the dining hall was anything to go by, it could be a number of things. All the thoughts that flashed through Xavier's mind made him feel sick to his stomach.
Jameson went straight in, without fear and Xavier wished he had that same fearlessness. He approached the table with care and was overwhelmed with the smell of filth and dirty blood. It made him gag on his prosthetic tongue. The smell was far to reminiscent of the time he had spent in the Capitol's avox hospital when he arrived. "R -right..." He took a shallow breath, breathing in through his mouth before crossing the threshold. It was pitch black and he couldn't see a thing. Feeling around blindly, he came across a switch on the door. His fear spiked again but he needed to turn it on to see what was there.
The light blinded him momentarily and he blinked rapidly to get his vision back in focus. When he did, he wished he had kept the light off. He gasped. Both Rose and Lieven were there but there weren't awake and they weren't moving. Burns and cuts covered both their bodies and there was blood everywhere. The small space overwhelmed Xavier and he stepped back. "Are they - are they alive?" he asked, his voice sounded small.
Xavier shook his head, trying to rid himself of the fear. He was the nurse, not Jameson. He would need to check that they were alive. "I - I need to check.. for a pulse." He was terrified that his fingers would meet their neck and there would be nothing there, just cool dead skin. He stepped over the filth and debris that littered the room. First, he checked Lieven. The red haired man was covered in blood, all of it seemingly coming from where his ear should have been.
Xavier's fingers felt sticky as the rested on his neck and he listened. It was there, it was incredibly faint but it was there. A heart beat. "He's still alive." He exhaled the breath he had been holding. One down, one to go. Rose was harder to get to and she definitely looked worse off. She looked pale and unresponsive but when he put his fingers to her neck, there was a heart beat. It was weak, incredibly weak but it was there. "She's alive! Oh thank god. We need to get them help right away."
