Arata Kangatari Remastered Vol. 9
So it’s been long since I post the remastered contents after 2 seasons, so here are some stuff for volume 9!
The volume left off Kikoku island arc where Harunawa found Arata and Oribe. Bascially same things like in the original.
One of my biggest complaints about the original manga is that some of the dialogue has been repeated constantly, and the Six Shou’s moltivation being the worst case, like literally 4 or 5 times - and I’m glad the Remastered edition doubled down on it. Here this is where the Six Shou’s motive was revealed for the first time, only hint or implied they are from Hinohara’s world in Muroya Arc. Harunawa also revealed his involvement in the Himezoku massacre 70 years ago that screw Kikuri over.
Oribe tries to kill Harunawa instead. Harunawa supposedly kill Oribe which left Arata on a freakin rampage.
Arata beat the shit out of Haunawa. Afterward Harunawa transform and kills Oribe’s uncle like in the original.
Luckily Oribe survive thanks to stuffing pads beneath her yukata.
Meanwhile at Amawakuni, Arata and the gang are recovering over the loss of Rami. I didn’t mentioned last volume, but Arata encountered the old man who came from his world after Kannagi defeated Akachi. He became more relevant here because he’s a major proof to show Mikusa that she’s also from their world, and that the plot twist Sayuri, his old love, is Mikusa’s grandmother!
So if I’m getting some gist of google translation right, the old man was Sayuri’s fiancé or at least her old love. Since he disappeared to Amawakuni, Sayuri moved on to married his friend (the grandfather that took care of Oribe).
This jutapose with the storyline with Arata and Oribe on the other world which I appreciate cuz it makes the flow more structure (literally in the original Arata and Oribe haven’t been seen for 6 volumes since after Yataka arc).
With this revelation that Oribe is a Hime, the gang discussed their plans on who’s to become Himeou’s successor. They decided that Hinohara and Mikusa gonna have to return for Arata and Oribe to succeed in their new position. I liked this as wel cuz even the original glossed over this (they kinda touch on this in Isora arc, but got ditch quickly).
However, this left Kotoha very distraught since she has no role in this (and fear of being left behind).
Now I cannot understand what are they talking about Kotoha here. I can touch some parts from Google Translate and it’s something about short lifespan. I can’t get the details, but it seems that Rami died very quickly cuz she used up all her healing for others.
But it’s a big deal and Arata doesn’t want that to happen to Kotoha, he persuade Kotoha to return home since he don’t want her to die like Rami. Kotoha reluctantly agrees which left Arata emotional.
But she decided to go back anyway and manage to catch up to the gang where they train.
Onto the training session! Arata met an interesting figure when he entered the dimensions. He said something like the lines of “brother”.
Kannagi’s and Yataka’s fight remained the same, but the women’s battle stretched longer. Their battle is pretty brutal, with Mikusa being beaten up and got hit by Amawatsuriki. Kotoha attempts to heal Mikusa, but only ended up making the wounds worse. Their counterpart taunt them about their failure much longer, particularly Kotoha about being dependent on her childhood friend Arata.
Mikusa found the strength to counter, and saves Kotoha. I’m glad Rami matters to them here cuz boy she got shafted hard in the original.
For Arata’s fight, not only his stretch a little longer, but it change the context. Now he is rewind to his time when he was bullied. So it turns out much deeper that his counterpart was his past self that he’s fighting.
Thanks to Seo’s wisdom and realizes about himself, Arata accepts his past self like in the original.
Very interesting volume and I like that it touch on somethings that could had left improved in the original, and this hits a lot of marks.
