haleycanning·:
When Haley left, she took what she could and left what was replaceable. She packed her camera, medication, important documents a few clothes and was gone, blocking Dominic from contacting her in every which way she could, hoping he would get the message. He had broken her trust in the worst way possible and there was no forgiving that. She needed space and time, and she would make a move when and if she was ready. That time still hadn’t come.
Today was like any other ordinary day in the studio. She had a few clients booked in and was currently taking a lunch break. Something that she had to remind herself to do before her blood sugars informed her in a not so pleasant way. Passing out in front of someone she was photographing was hardly ideal. She had just returned to the studio after eating a quick lunch in the coffee shop opposite and was now setting up for the rest of the day.
Haley came out of the cupboard she used to store lighting equipment she wouldn’t been needing for the next shoot when she heard the door to the studio open, which was odd. She wasn’t expecting anyone for at least an hour. But as she walked back into the main area of the studio, her visitor’s identity was clear. He was the last person she expected to see, and that was clear on her face as she just stared at him, dumbfounded, unsure of what to say. “ What the hell are you doing here? ” Were the only words she was able to come up with as he stood before her.
Dominic had always known her reaction wouldn’t great. What had he honestly excepted from her? She more than likely hated him, going by her reaction, but who could blame her. He’d have been acting much the same if the tables were turned. There was no judgement there, there never could be. Seeing her though, brought back that familiar ache in his heart, it killed him how much he’d hurt her, that there’d been no conversation after, no chance to even apologise to her. He never meant to hurt her, it had been a stupid drunken mistake she’d happened to walk in on, but he knew there was no excuse for it, those were just the facts.
“I had to find you eventually,” he told her simply. “I’ve been trying to find you since the day you left.” He knew she’d need some time to cool off, probably still needed time, but he couldn’t have gone much longer without seeing her. He bit down lightly on his lower lip for a moment, a breath leaving him very slowly. “I want to say sorry, even though I know that’ll mean nothing to you,” he added. “I don’t expect you to forgive me.” He didn’t need that, he didn’t want that until she was ready (if she ever was), but he wanted to at least be able to tell her and show that he meant it.

A small chuckle escaped Rosa’s lips, looking at him with an amused expression on her face. “You have? Yeah… probably. I’m a gossip, I admit it.” She took a slow sip of her drink while keeping her gaze on Dominic, suddenly realising her comment seemed as though it could have been aimed at him. It wasn’t, but she hoped he knew that. “I have no idea, but it’s such a cliché. The assistant, the nanny… they need to be a little more creative than that.” The woman jested, shrugging a little. “What about you, have you got anything juicy going on in your life? Mine has been awfully boring lately.”
“You and the rest of this town...” was Dominic’s response, shaking his head as he spoke. He was only playing around with her, something he knew she didn’t always appreciate, but was sure she was used to by now. They’d known one another long enough after all. She was probably one of his oldest friends in the industry. The whole conversation was ridiculous really, he couldn’t pretend to be innocent, having made his own mistakes recently. “At least go for the chef, right?” A shrug as he thought on that a moment, and then laughed. “Juicy? God no. I want to keep the juicy out of my life for now,” he answered, nose wrinkling. “Why? Have you?”
I think my recognizability ebbs and flows. I don’t lead a particularly celebrity lifestyle or anything like that. I don’t go to showbiz parties or red-carpet events, so it all depends on whether I’ve got a film out. I’ve not been very visible in the last year or so and as a result hardly anyone stops me in the street.

Vick sat there as she waited for her drink to turn up. She had missed spending time with Dominic, it had been too long as she was glad to spend time with him. She sat there as she watched him return with the drinks and she smiled, “Finally.” She laughed looking over at him for a moment as she took hold of the drink, “Thank you.” She smiled running a hand through her hair, as she heard the guys question and she laughed a little, “My life well it has been busy, just trying to get writers block out of my head but other then that it’s been okay. Kiera’s growing and it’s scary. How’s life been treating you?”
“Finally? Finally?” His brows shot up in amusement as he sat back in his chair, a playful smile crossing his features. Dominic knew that he could tease Vick back without much of a reaction, that had that kind of a relationship, one where they could play around a little. “Kids do that,” he mused lightly, taking a sip of his coffee. “She’s not causing you too much troulbe, though, I hope?” He had not have quite reached that stage in his life (his own fault of course), but it didn’t mean he didn’t love hearing about Kiera’s adventures. “Same as always just lately,” he informed her. “It’s pretty uneventful.”

“Oh, I’m so sorry, did I ruin your picture?” Honestly Katherine didn’t really care, nor made an attempt to move far out of the way. Today was her first day off in almost two weeks and this spot in the park had full sunshine and she wasn’t going to give that up. She did however sit up to face him properly, fiddling with the flower she had in her hands. “You any good? You certainly carry a more expensive camera than most I have seen today. It looks expensive anyway. I don’t really know anything about cameras.”
One second Dominic had been lining up a shot, the next, someone had walked right into it. This was nothing unusual in central London, of course, it was own fault for trying to work in Hyde Park on a sunny day —- a spell of beautiful weather bringing out half of the city it seemed. “Not ruined exactly...” was his response as he lowered the camera again, a gentle laugh escaping him. Sometimes those kinds of pictures were the best kinds, catching people unawares, they were more natural, more real. “Yeah, it cost quite a bit,” he answered her, although didn’t answer the other part, he never really knew what to say.
@missvickieg.
“Here we go...” Dominic placed the drinks down on the table, and then took a seat himself, finally shrugging off his jacket. It had been a little while since he’d been able to sit down and catch up with Vick, not something he made a habit of he had to admit, and so he intended on giving her his full attention for as long as he possibly could. Admittedly, he wasn’t usually rushed off his feet, not in the job that he did, but the last couple of months had been difficult since Haley had left the studio. Somehow he’d lost his hold on things and that included his close friendships. “Catch me up then, how’s life been treating you?”

Events were a common occurrence for Rosalind. Working for the biggest magazine in the world had its perks, and being invited to every exclusive party not only in London, but all over Europe, was one of them. She enjoyed any chance to drink her sorrows away in style, so it wasn’t out of character for the ginger to be lingering by the bar, martini in hand as she surveyed the crowd. “Oh, god. He is here. He’s cheating on his wife with the nanny, you know. But you didn’t hear that from me.” She commented to the nearest person in her vicinity, nodding in the direction of a smartly dressed man with his otherworldly beautiful wife. “Some men really can’t keep it in their pants. Such a shame.”
At Rosa’s words, Dominic tilted his head, his brows knitting together, expression amused. “I didn’t? But I’m sure I’ve heard it from you a couple of times before, too...” he mused with a shrug of his shoulders. Well, it was either Rosa or someone else within the industry, the amount of gossip that got thrown around daily, he found he heard everything at least twice. As he leant back very casually against the bar, reaching for his drink, he wrinkled his nose for a moment as he watched the man in question. Her words kind of stung a little, considering his own mistakes, but it wasn’t as though it was something he ever made a habit of —- this guy, however, had been having a full on affair for months, probably years. “Why do they always go for the nanny?”
@haleycanning.
It had been a couple of months, most of which had taken Dominic the time to even try and track her down. He’d known straight away she’d block his number and if she was couch surfing at friend’s places, they weren’t picking up either, and had obviously been instructed not to. To begin with it left him at a loss at what to do or how to get in touch with her. He tried all the social media channels with no luck, but then he’d come across her new business —- something he wasn’t surprised by, what did he expect her to do after leaving? She had to get on with her life and make a living somehow.
As he arrived at her little studio, he clambered out of his car, looking up at the building with a light sigh. Things never should have ended how they did, he hadn’t even been given a chance to explain, not that there was much to explain. There no excuse for what he’d done. Either way, he couldn’t leave it like that with her forever, they’d been together for five years and he did love her... very, very much.
He steeled himself, and then taking a deep breath, reached for the door. It was smaller than his studio, modest, but still very nice. There was no one in sight at first, so he took a moment to take it all in, looking left and right, smiling very slightly to himself. Though the circumstances had been horrible, he couldn’t help but feel a slight sense of pride in what she’d achieved in such a small space of time. That was when he heard movement and he looked back again to find her standing there. “I like what you’ve done with the place,” his words were casual, although he wouldn’t have been at all surprised if they were greeted with a slap.

“Okay, can I be real honest with you? I have no idea what you just said.” Akida cut the other off mid-sentence when the admission came out, but she paired it with a warm, sincere smile so the other person didn’t think she was ignoring them on purpose. “Now, try it again, but in a Daffy Duck voice.”
Dominic tilted his head for a moment, not entirely sure she was being serious —- but then, how many people would actually come out and say something like that unless they actually meant it. “I think I’ll pass,” he answered with a gentle laugh. “Listening goes a long way, though...” He was only teasing, proved as he laid his hands on the chair next to hers. “You good if I steal this? There’s no chairs at the table over there. Unless you want company from a random stranger?”

“Why do people only remember books when there’s a bloody movie about to come out? I had four separate customers asking today if we have Dune. I guarantee you won’t finish it before the movie comes out — it’s 562 pages.”
“Because people don’t even admit to reading half of the time these days, they only remember they wouldn’t mind picking up a book when a movie trailer throws ‘based on the bestselling book’ at the end,” was Dominic’s response, a playful smile on his features. “Gotta love people!”

BIOGRAPHY
trigger warnings:
Dominic was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, the only child of Elizabeth Smith and James Adamson —- an author and a well-respected surgeon. He lived the idyllic childhood, surrounded by friends and family, taking yearly vacations to Portland and Florida. Money was no object for him while growing up and he soon realised with the backing of his parents, he could do anything that he wanted with his life. Dominic didn’t really want all that much, though, nothing more than to explore the world around him and to understand how it worked. It was a big dream for such a small child, but one his mother was keen to encourage from day one, helping him embrace his passions.
By the age of fourteen, he picked up a keen interest in photography, and he spent his summer that year looking at everything with a fresh eye. His hobby wasn’t accepted quite as freely when he was in school and before long he became known as the weirdo with the camera, something he simply decided to ignore. Who needed friends, after all? Not that he didn’t have any, of course, but the company he kept was select at best. They were very close, a group of four who were inseparable during their high school years, and who Dominic still does his best to see a couple of times a year. But with high school out of the way, his focus quickly became college and the fact he was considering moving away for a while. School had been a tiring experience and he was ready for something new, something far, far away. So when he was accepted into the Royal College of Art in London he knew he was on the right path.
Moving to London at the age of eighteen was a bit of reality check for Dominic. Having spent his entire life in one place and only ever vacationing in the States, moving to a different country took a lot of getting used to. But he loved it, every single second of it, embracing the new lifestyle he found for himself. Moving into a Notting Hill flat with the help of his parents, he found himself a roommate shortly afterwards, and threw himself into university and finding a life for himself in this new city. The British capital city wasn’t a place he’d considered living until he’d discovered the course at the RCA, but he soon found it was the perfect place for him, especially the cosmopolitan attitude of Notting Hill. He fell in love with the buildings, the people, everything that the area had to offer. Little did he know then, that he would soon be calling Notting Hill his home, the one place where he felt comfortable and welcome without question, that he’d be living there for almost two decades with no interest in moving elsewhere.
Once university was over and done with, Dominic moved around the city, submitting his work to all the major publications, deciding that he wanted a job in fashion. It took time for his work to be noticed, but within the space of five years, he became one of the most renowned young photographers in the city, working at the likes of Vogue, Elle and GQ, while side-lining as Burberry’s main photographer. His true passion would always be landscape, but he found he had a particular knack when it came to working with the models, not to mention spending time with them after hours at The Chiltern Firehouse.
That was when he met Laura and things soon changed. After a few brief flings during university, it was the first time he’d really put any effort into a relationship, the first time that he’d actually wanted to. But it wasn’t to last, nothing ever really did for Dominic when it came to relationships, and that was okay… for now. He found joy in his work and for the most part, it was enough for him. But the night he found Laura’s sister in his arms, he realised that it really wasn’t. The relationship they embarked on was complicated, kept a secret until the last, so not to hurt anyone unnecessarily. He hated keeping secrets, always had, and it was almost a relief when the relationship came to an end due to Laura’s return to the city. The secrets they kept would have only worsened and he didn’t know if he was cut out for it anymore. The day those sisters had stepped into his life was the day his life had been turned upside down, only for it to come to an end as abruptly as it had begun.
So Dominic lost himself in his work once more, took several steps back from the fashion industry and put on his first exhibition. Sited in Shoreditch, seeing his work on display for all to enjoy is one of his proudest moments, not to mention a welcome distraction amongst the chaos that his life had become.
Several years after that, he opened his own studio, focusing on portraits and helping people get themselves out there. He continued his landscape photography on the side, soon finding love with someone he hired as an assistant, discovering a kind of happiness he hadn’t really known before. It was nothing like it had been before and completely consumed him. They made an amazing team, both in work and in private. But it wasn’t to last, old habits die hard and stupid mistakes had followed him around since he was a student, no more so than the day someone from back home walked into the studio. He’d known it was wrong, but two drinks too many and they’d stumbled their way to bed and to destroying his relationship.
He should have learnt from the stupidity in his twenties, though it seemed he was not that clever, the biggest mistake he had ever made that he was still trying to work through.
Some people like to describe Dominic as Jekyll and Hyde type character, although he’s always thought it a little on the excessive side. The person he shows to colleagues and clients may be completely different to the person he is in private, but he’s never thought that a bad thing. Who says that he needs to show everything to everybody? His professionalism when he’s working knows no bounds; he’s commended on it often, although if you catch him in the bar after hours, his behaviour is anything but. He’s a flirt, though, using his charms to his advantage. But he’s kind, he’s never been cocky, he simply enjoys making people smile.
More than once he’s been called lazy when he’s at home, not to mention untidy, but Dominic insists it’s organised chaos. His home is a mishmash of everything he loves, his own photos adorning the walls, silly little nik-naks he’s picked up during his adventures in the city. He has always very much had his heart on his sleeve when it comes to his personal life. If he lets you in, it won’t be long before you know absolutely everything about him. Despite his kind nature, however, he isn’t the type to be taken for a ride —- if you get on his bad side, beware, because you will undoubtedly know about it.
