Some of my latest picture book illustrations from sketches to final artworks. This is my first attempt in using traditional media for a commercial work and I’m glad I tried although I’m not too satisfied with the result.

Recently visited the National Museum of Anthropology in Manila and there were a lot of things I wish I could draw on site but only pencil is allowed inside so I had to rely on photos for the colors. I could probably spend a whole day sketching there. This one is called the “Sarimanok”, which literally means colorful/garment chicken. Just a couple of sketches copied directly from the 1977 Winnie the Pooh Movie. I think it's a great resource for studying pen and ink drawing and children's book illustration overall. . Some thoughts hit me; I started drawing when I was eight after getting hooked into anime (particularly Yuyu Hakusho and Ranma 1/2) but looking back, I don't think I've really ever drawn as much as I did in the last 10 months. And ironically, when I took up design in college, that would be the time I stopped drawing for fun, and I eventually stopped drawing all the way.
