My first wash and go after removing all the straight ends! I was so excited for the results. See previous post for details on what I did!
My last haircut! As you can see in the first picture, I still had a lot of straight ends to get rid of. During that time my go-to protective style were finger coils. One day I noticed that I could tell the clear difference between my straight ends and curls through the fibger coils. I took cutting scissors to my hair and cut off all the straight ends, making sure to match either side of my hair for symmetry. I lost about 3 inches of hair that day but I don't regret it one bit. After that cut my hair came to LIFE! Once all the relaxed ends were gone my curls took over and were able to show their true colors. It was the best decision of my life! I'm due for a trim soon.. It will be the second devacut I will have gotten after my last one in April 2015. I will make sure to document it!
The journey is real! And the toughest one i’ve endured but i’m so happy to be where I finally wanted to be!
Constantly being in a Dominican salon, I was so disheartened by the women whom I saw. Every visit was brutal as they told me how “bad” my hair was & how it was time to relax once again. It was 10 years of misloving my hair, I even have a burn scar on my scalp for constant reminder!
Over three years ago I decided to stop relaxing my hair as you can see I was slowly losing any type of pattern on my hair. I began the wave towards natural hair but had such a rough year that exactly a year later I gave in to the chemicals. No one told me it would be this hard!
Immediately after that relaxer, I regretted my decision, I was so upset with myself as I was so close to the end. At that moment I decided there had to be a better way. I had loosely heard of the curly girl method and did all the research I could in regards to their products and ways. This was my lifesaver!
Finally embraching a natural product journey has saved my hair from yet another fallback into the chemical life. I began to see results and actually was able to see curls in my hair. I learned about even more products and protective styles. I began to follow ladies going through the same process and learned so many new and effective things!
And to that I say, January 2014 I began my journey towards a genuine me. It took many trials and tribulations but I got here. My best piece of advice is “it’s not easy, it takes a lot of patience, but you can definitely do it” find curly girls with similar hair to follow and see the routines they use, it definitely helps!
And look, 2.5 years later and I have curls I never thought I had under this scalp. Curls I have NEVER seen in the existence of my 25 years of my life. My next challenge is long hair, which I have never been able to fully achieve without the help of those chemicals! I want my natural, culturally-rich, Afro-Dominicana hair to finally shine!

Attended a Curly Girl event yesterday in the city, got to meet and see some beautiful curly girls embracing the movement! Hope to be attending more soon as well as meeting more ladies!
Pictures to come soon!
Btw: look at the volume on this head, love it! Summer ‘16 is going to be a good one ;)
Embrace the frizz. Embrace the fro. Embrace you. 👌
When indoors the fro is usually in a pineapple about 97% of the time. Especially for bed time 😆 Preserve them curls!
Having a terrific day basking in the sun!
My curls have been embracing the volume lately with little to no manipulation. Can’t complain, i’m loving it! 2nd day hair using my all-time favorite combination, shea moisture jamaican black castor oil leave-in conditioner, jojoba oil, coconut & hibiscus curling cream :) with a little eco-styler to scrunch.
Last week my hair was much less frizzy and this wash&go feels like it won’t last as long. Have to experiment and see if it was the conditioner or the mousse that I used.
This wash & go was thebomb.com So proud of my hair and its journey to the present and where it will continue to go. Confidence in your natural state is the key! Previous post has styling details! Refreshed daily with a little avocado oil in my hands.
Coils for Days. 🌀 Used Cantu leave in conditioner and curl cream and avocado oil. Used a little Shea Moisture Mousse to scrunch. Allowing it to air dry for some natural volume.
Who said Sunday's can't also be laze-days?!
Negra's itty bitty fang. Second loose tooth we were able to collect :)
Momma caught me with grass in mouth. How rude! Spring days are coming ahead! I’m woof-cited 🐶
2nd day hair. Trying this less product thang: Shea Moisture Jamaican Black Castor Oil leave-in conditioner and avocado oil. Followed by a diffuser.
Negra barking and watching at Wawa 🐶
