Your excited cheers echo in the room the moment you enter, overriding all other sounds. It was incredibly hard to find a way to see Barou after the NEL, but after following his progress through TV for so long, you didn't rest until able to sneak some minutes in person with him. Now, finally seeing him after months of no direct contact, you rush to his side immediately, hogging his attention and chanting him praises left and right.
"Your goals were so exciting. I could barely look away from my screen!" Your exclaim with sparkling eyes, blabbering like you've been doing for the past few minutes.
"Did you expect less from your King?" He raises a brow.
You laugh, "No, I guess not."
You're rambling excitedly, pointing out everything you liked from what you witnessed, asking questions here and there before interrupting yourself with new thoughts. Barou's used to you being a little chatterbox when excited, so you yap to your heart's content. But even through your back and forth chatter, you can notice he's quieter than usual.
Though he wouldn't say much normally, you'd be able to tell that your praise works wonders for him in the inside. But now, it's like it's bouncing off of him, as he avoids his gaze like he's contemplating something.
"Sho?" Your brows furrow, concern overcoming you. "Are you okay? Is it that you're still bothered about that defeat against—"
A huff of air escapes him, his features contorting in his signature frown. "Of course not."
Okay, let's maybe ignore that subject. "Then am I annoying you? Are you tired, is that it?"
"Don't be ridiculous, nothing's wrong." He grumbles, turning away.
Though relieved by his answer, your worry doesn't lift. There's something going on, something he won't tell you. You know that, but you can't tell exactly what. Barou's looking around like he's waiting for something, arms crossed tight around his chest. And the more time spent without addressing this seemingly important topic, the more nervous you become.
"I saw you were one of the best of the whole league. ¥150,000,000 for your final offer, right? That's so impressive." You attempt to praise.
"Hah. Nothing short of what I deserve." He answers.
His response is very Barou indeed, but you can sense the tension doesn't leave. You keep prodding and making little comments, now probing instead of just idle chattering. But nothing seems to be quite the thing he's looking for, and you're struggling to find the words he wants to hear.
You clench your teeth, these heavy seconds feel like they're passing too slowly. You need to act fast before he gets fed up that you're not picking whatever clue he's hinting at, and therefore never know what he wanted in the first place. Your eyes scan his body language, jaw set tight as he lifts an arm and places his hand in the back of his head.
"Did you, uh... get stronger, by the way?" You ask, wondering if he's trying to show off his arms. You end up getting less of an answer than before, sighing in defeat. Your eyes linger on his biceps—no, focus—before haphazardly going back up, frantically searching for something to point at.
It's not his performance. It's not his drive. It's not anything you'd expect for him. Barou stretches his neck muscles, his hand sliding further up and reaching the back of his hair. And the moment you, spaced out calculating, take in his movement, something inside you snaps.
"Oh! You got a new style, didn't you?"
You say it like it's a grand revelation, and for a moment you think he'll find it stupid. But his eyes finally meet yours, arms crossing again as he huffs pridefully. "It's just something I got done by the peasants from my team. A King celebrating his achievements with a change of image is no short than fitting."
"Wow, I'm inclined to agree." You've never been more thankful of blurting out random bullshit to Barou in your life. "It makes you look intimating, and the red stripes match your eyes. Fitting for a King, indeed."
"See? I knew you'd get it. If only some loser shared your vision." Barou scowls at a random wall beside you, probably thinking of a suspiciously sprout-haired teammate. You cough lightly trying to get back his attention.
"It's fine, not everyone can recognize style when they see it," You try to reassure him, "Some people need more time before they catch on."
"I damn hope they do," he replies, chin up high, "Everyone shall bow to the King eventually."
You notice a slight smirk tugging at the corner of his lips, and you finally feel the tension dissipate. You can hardly believe that Barou, the king of the field, had been wanting to get his hair complimented of all things all this time. If he'd been a girl, you're sure he would've been flipping his hair back and forth waiting for you to notice. But it's just your king all this time, who likes some common praise here and there.
You keep it to yourself, knowing he wouldn't appreciate being compared to "common folk".
But heavens, you're keeping this awkward Barou who waited around for a compliment from you in a special place in your mind.

You and a certain midfielder are rivals in every way that doesn't matter.
You may not know him personally, but the beef you have with him is generational, and you've ranted to your friends about that man more than you have about your ex at this point.
It all started with this amazing restaurant you go to on your free time. A hidden gem, you'd call it, with amazing food, nice range of prices, special dishes rolling out every other day and an amazing view of the sea if you pick your table strategically. Which you had always done, sitting on the beautifully decorated patio, rejoicing on the fact that since you've been a regular since the early days, they always lead you directly to the table you prefer.
It was perfect, to get to spend your free days enjoying a coffee or a pastry while taking in the sea breeze and feeding the seagulls.
It was perfect, until he came along.
Mr. Itoshi. You caught his surname once from one the waitresses, and you've been praying on his downfall ever since. This apparently important man discovered your safe place and decided he wanted it for himself, like every rich person once they find something the common folk enjoy.
That's right, he came one day you weren't there, sat on your favorite spot, and decided he'd put a pretty penny in and reserve the table for each one of his visits.
He made reservations.
They didn't even do those before him! It was first come, first serve!
The only informal reservation going on was when the employees kindly saved your table on the days you'd text them you'd come, but now this man slammed a ton of cash on their hands and made it his property.
The worst of it is that you cannot even sit on the other tables located at the patio, since there's been an influx of customers ever since he discovered this place.
You're happy for the business, really. You just liked it better when it was only yours. Now the only private area is the outer part of the restaurant, but due to the amount of customers, you're often forced to sit on the table that's right next to the bathroom.
A tragic downgrade, all because capitalism personified found your food heaven, brought strays with him and kept the only calm space for himself with the power of money.
You die a little from embarrassment every time the staff gives you a pitiful look and tells you there are no free seats outside.
So, that's Mr. Itoshi, the most hated man in your life at the moment. The man you sadly occasionally coincide with at the restaurant, and that orders the exclusive pastry you like before you can. The one who infuriates you every time you hear his last name.
In such a peace threatening situation, it's really good that you have Sae to clear your mind.
You met him one day you accidentally raided his number with your rambling. Under the impression you were texting to your friend Mae's new number (funny how similar their names are), you yapped about this show you liked without a care in the world. The results were... amusing, to say the least.
You thought everything would end there, you were scolding a stranger's for god's sake, but he seemed to have found amusement in your antics and didn't block you right away. You responded in kind, texting him about random topics every other day, just to see how he'd respond.
Before you knew it, you had formed a strange bond with this man thanks to your friend's terrible handwriting on her number (how do you even write a three like an eight? You don't know, but you're happy with her results).
After all, not only Sae had the same favorite childhood show as you (surprising given his personality, I know), but you had many other things in common. Like your love for the sea and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore. Or the peace you both found watching and feeding seagulls when visiting the dock. How you went from educating him on your music taste to talking about the little things in life is beyond you, but talking with him was surprisingly enjoyable.
And he was a bit secretive, sure, but that's not a bad thing, right? Not everyone is very active on social media. You know his first name, that he's currently living in Spain like you are, and that he has a well-paying job, if the way he regards money-related matters so nonchalantly says anything.
He doesn't go in detail about personal matters, but you know that he asks his parents to send him salted kelp so he can make tea from it. That he has a younger brother he pretends not to care about but still brings up sometimes, that he's sometimes homesick even if he doesn't tell you out loud. And it's just been a few months, but he became one of the people you've talked most, even if you hadn't assigned a face to his name.
Again, that's not much of a big deal. You hadn't shown him your face either, if just to keep some privacy between you two. You shared random pictures of your days frequently, like what you had for breakfast or the sunset from his window, but nothing to revealing about your appeareances. You visit the places you recommend each other, but there's no direct trace of you or him in such moments.
So when Sae randomly asks you to pick something up on his behalf, you don't know what to expect.
You accept because it's a place you know, and it's public. Maybe he wanted to treat you to a meal? He had done it once, told you he'd pay for what you got if you tried a restaurant he had talked about. You were expecting a prank, but when you told the owner your name, he said everything you wanted would be covered. It had you giggling and kicking your feet... and your friends worried that Sae could be a wealthy but catfishing old man trying to ensnare you.
Anyway, back to the present. You find the man Sae told you about, and after a brief exchange he hands you a short letter and a package. You go back to your car and open the letter first, surprise coloring your expression as you read its content.
"We've been talking for a while, it's about time we saw each other in person. I'm free on Saturday at 6pm, I'll send you the location of this place I'm thinking about. In the package is something i think you'll like. Make sure you wear if you decide to go.
—Sae"
You don't know what you expected, but this surely surpassed it. The note is very Sae, by what I mean painfully straightforward. There's a certain charm in it, Sae's not one for games or beating around the bush. Is this his way of admitting interest...? 'Cause you'd be lying if you said you weren't interested. But before you could reread it again and again, your eyes went back to a certain word.
Wear...?
You grab the box and open it, your heart stuttering at the view.
Inside the package lay a whole outfit in your favorite color, its material silky, comfortable and definitely expensive.
The implication's obvious, he wanted you to wear this when you saw each other. Is this the classic romantic move, or did he just want to be able to recognize you? Knowing Sae, it could easily be the latter, but is it really?
You're barely processing everything, so you pull out your phone and decide to text him.
Yup, offline again. Typical move, you're not getting answers from him today.
So, why not gamble it?
Yeah... It's worth a try.

Hours later that day, Sae sent you the location of the place he wanted to see you at. And to your surprise, it was your favorite restaurant! The one you've been avoiding because of the Itoshi guy who hoards tables and steals the best views. You and Sae always recommend each other spots to visit on Spain, yet you'd never mentioned this one because you weren't sure if he'd enjoy the current experience. But turns out he knew it, after all.
You're curious of wether he's been around from its good days and you hadn't noticed, or if he's one of the many new customers. You're already planning on telling him all about the place, your history with it and gossip about Itoshi. You wonder if he'd understand your point or if he'd side with that man since he's also wealthy.
Once Saturday comes by and you arrive to the restaurant, you're practically vibrating with excitement. You'd been distracting yourself the whole way, but knowing you're about to meet the man you've been chatting with for so long has you thrilled. You smooth any wrinkles in your outfit, the one he chose, before walking in.
The restaurant's in full swing, not packed with people like in its busiest days but crowded enough to speak well of its reputation. You look around nervously, suddenly feeling like a fish out of water, before someone from the staff approaches you with a smile.
The employee asks for your name, and starts leading you through the tables without another word. You're starting to notice a pattern with the way Sae does things, but it's hard to question it given its effectiveness. You're brought to the patio, where surprisingly enough, the staff points at your favorite table.
Or your ex favorite table, you guess. You haven't been able to sit there for a while. It seems Itoshi's not here today, if Sae could get it. Maybe Sae just offered more money than him? That's a funny mental image. You get out of your thoughts, slowly approaching the man whose back is facing you at the moment.
"Sae...?" You ask in a small voice once you're close, giving a tentative smile.
"Mn. Sit." He murmurs without even lifting his head, but there's something like acknowledgement in his voice. Like he had memorized yours only from the sound your voicelines.
You take a seat in front of him, averting your gaze at first. It takes but a few seconds before you stare openly, though, curiosity winning over you.
And damn, Sae's face card does not dissapoint.
You have to physically hold back a reaction when you take in his looks, mouth agape. You just got blinded by the sheer beauty of this man. You did your best to picture someone average, trying to keep your expectations low (so long he's not an old man, right...?), but not only he looks about your age, but he's drop dead gorgeous.
His skin's flawless, his hair's silky, his suit's perfectly tailored and his vibe's immaculate. And his lashes, oh god, his lashes. They're so striking and luscious, you can't help but feel jealous.
You're one second away from drowning in the pond that are Sae's eyes, before he finally looks away from the menu. "Done staring?" He asks, and you want earth to swallow you. You can hear the smirk in his voice despite his expressionless face.
You let out a quiet gasp, not finding words right away. Sae's eyes go up and down, taking you in, before humming in something like approval. "You look nice. I knew it'd suit you."
How he knew the clothes would look good without knowing how you looked is beyond you, but the compliment does a number to you still. "Thank you," You whisper in a strangely timid voice, which catches his attention.
"You're strangely calm for someone who's so annoying over text. Thought you'd be getting on my nerves by now."
That gets to you. You may feel awkward since this is your first time meeting him, but you were pretty comfortable with him over the phone. So while talking with Sae in person had been feeling more like a job interview than a friendly chat, you rise to the bite by instinct.
"And you're as blunt as you are over text. You just can't do niceties, can you?"
"Not my style." Sae replies, his lips twitching in what could've been a smirk. You roll your eyes, but no matter how much you pretend you hate it, his little comments are so familiar that they're the perfect icebreaker.
You're chatting and bantering as usual in no time, adapting easily to Sae's blunt manner and blank face. It's quite endearing how his personality doesn't differ from how he texts. Or maybe that's how it feels to you because you had already grown fond of him before you saw him in person. Hard to find anything to dislike when he's got a face like that, too.
It feels like you've been talking for ages, when Sae glances towards a waitress preparing her tray to serve to the customers. "I ordered something ahead for us that I thought you might want to try," he comments casually, "Though you can order for yourself when the waitress comes by."
You hum in interest, curious as to what he picked. That makes you remember, you never really got to tell him that you already knew this place. You were eager to bring it up, but got distracted by nerves and other conversation topics. With a smile, you're about to mention it and ask what dish of the menu he enjoys, until the waitress's voice rings out.
"Mr. Itoshi, here's your order!" She calls, and you stiffen. Him? Here? How annoying. You had completely forgotten about the thief of your joy for a second there. Well, if he's here too, he must be mad you took his table. You smirk, revenge's best served cold for sure.
...Though that doesn't explain why she's approaching you two. Maybe she mistakenly thought he'd be here? Odd. If she's bringing him food, she must have known where he's sitting, right? So why is she setting two plates in front of you and Sae?
"Ichibo steak, as you asked." The woman states and starts going on about the dish and whatnot, but you're not listening anymore. Why is she here right now? Did you mishear? You're pretty sure you heard her call that bastard's surname, but everything's going on normally regardless.
You shake your head, you're probably the one in the wrong. Something mus have happened that you weren't aware of, or your mind is actually playing tricks on you. When you focus again, the woman's about to leave, but Sae stops her.
"You didn't get my partner's order." He explains bluntly, and the waitress straightens. You're about to overthink the usage of that word and feel flustered, but her next words stop you.
"I apologize, Mr. Itoshi. Do you both wish to get something else?"
Mr. Itoshi.
Itoshi, again, and in Sae's proximity.
That's when you finally clock it.
"Did you- did you call him Itoshi?" You blurt out, pushing aside the original topic of the conversation. She blinks, confused as to why his companion of all people is asking that, but nods.
"Yes, I did. He's a regular in here and a distinguished patron, so we already know him." She explains further, before attempting to continue. "So, would you like anything else?"
She's talking to you, but your mind's blowing up. And with Sae doing nothing to correct her, it finally dawns upon you. "You're Itoshi?!"
A few heads turn your way, but you're too into your shock to care. Sae tilts his head casually, answering in a way too calm tone. "Yes, I'm Sae Itoshi. I never told you because I didn't want you to know me for what I do. But I suppose that doesn't matter now."
You let out a little gasp at his admissal, but that quickly turns into annoyance. Does he think you care about his legacy or whatever? That's not the issue at hand, and you make damn sure he knows it. "I don't care about whatever you do professionally, Sae. I care about my table! And you're the one who stole it!"
Sae pauses in mild interest, and the waitress is frozen in place. She clearly doesn't get paid enough to deal with your bullshit. Or maybe this is the first interesting thing that happens to her in work. Well, that's not your problem. Because you've been wanting to tell Itoshi Sae a few things for a while, and this is the perfect moment to.
"You," You point at his chest, now standing in place, "Came here one day, reserved my favorite spot, starting coming every day I did too, and ordered my favorite, limited dishes before I could. You also brought many new customers due to your fame and made this place so crowded I couldn't enjoy it the same way. This was my favorite restaurant! I wanted to gatekeep it!"
More heads are turning and quiet whispers can be heard, but you inhale and keep going. "And you also barged in into my life, made yourself a place in it and asked me to meet you, in the same place that you made me hate. You're vile, Itoshi Sae! Were you planning this from the from the start?! What did I ever do to you!"
Sae let's you rant all you want, this topic is so silly but you're so fired up it's adorable. So you hated his guts because he inconvenienced your life with the side effects of his actions? Hilarious. He only speaks when you stop, sheer amusement in his blank gaze.
"So you're the whiny customer who got fired up with my presence, huh? I had heard something about you, too."
And if you weren't mad before, now you're livid, even going as far as to throw a napkin his way.
"Hell yeah I am! You rich people are so selfish!" You huff, and Sae finally breaks. A, faint deliberate smirk graces his lips, as he leans forward.
"Is that so?" Sae asks, tone still neutral but charged in a way that makes you pause. "Then I should remind you that you're wearing the clothes I bought for you, you'll have diner with my money, and you have done so before without a single complaint."
"Huh?" You frown slightly, "I always told you that you didn't have to do those things. Are you rubbing all of that in my face?"
"No," He explains calmly, "I did those things because I wanted to. I'm just saying you should keep enjoying what I give to you so willingly, and we can discuss this little tantrum later."
"Tantrum? Oh Sae you jerk-" You're one second away from grabbing a glass and wetting his suit, when the waitress chimes in to calm you down. You suddenly remember your predicament: you're still in public, and Sae's still the man who prods, pokes, and annoys you with his bluntness in hopes you'll rise to the bite. You know your dynamic, but you were so out of it you kept reacting. And it's surely become a problem, because everyone's looking at you and the owner's not too happy.
You and Sae end up leaving the restaurant, out of your own accord. They didn't have the guts to tell Sae to leave, but he suggested that himself so you wouldn't spend the your time together getting glances from strangers. Your arms are crossed as you gaze towards the sea, still sulking but mostly embarrased. And even now, Sae can't help but speak again.
"So you're done with the temper tantrum now?" You flip him off, and he huffs in amusement. "I didn't know I was making your life miserable. Next time just walk up to my table and tell me."
"You would have called security on me or something, that's what you vip's do." You retorted, tone sarcastic. You were calm enough to joke now, though you refused to outright say it. What happened back inside was terribly embarrasing, you keep praying in your mind for earth to finally swallow you. You really got too carried away by your surprise, but your banter with Sae is eternal and you don't want to make it seem like he was right.
Sae doesn't reply right away, silence remaining for a moment. You take a breath, deciding to get more serious. "...I still can't believe you're him."
"Do you realize that was a bit excessive?" He asks, but again, you shake your head and refuse to cave. "You deserved it... I guess. At least I wanted to rant my frustration to you. I just regret that it happened in public."
"Be stubborn all you want, but today's far from over." Sae suddenly states, turning to face you. "I said dinner would be on me, and I'm still keeping my word. So since you got us kicked from the restaurant..." "Your fault." "...Sure. But you're coming with me to a new place. This one more exclusive, since our privacy got butchered earlier."
You perk up, a bit tempted. You're still cross at him, Sae's even more rude in person, but you know he's not really trying to hurt your feelings and is even offering something nice. And you still kinda wanna hate him, and you're keen on not making him feel like he's got the upper hand... but if you go home after this, all you'll think about is what happened earlier.
And you'd sure as hell rather give your night a better ending than be petty and let it end here.
"...Well," You begin, "You just said 'sure' when I told you this all was your fault."
Sae raises an eyebrow, "I guess." You kinda wanna punch him for the short answer, but you ignore that.
"So... You admit this was your own doing, and that you jinxed my reputation, you were mean to me, and you ruined one of my favorite places for your selfish desires."
At this point, he only shrugs, playing along. "If that helps you sleep at night."
"In that case... I guess I can accept. Give you a chance to redeem yourself." You offer, smiling like you're the one doing him a favor. Sae's lips twitch again, oh you're ridiculous, but he knew that before you even saw each other in person and he knows he loves it deep down.
"How kind." He plays along, the lack of humor in his voice being the cherry on top for his sarcastic statement. You're not even mad anymore, curiosity rising. "Where to?"
"I'll drive us there." He begins walking towards a car you assume is his, and you follow. "Though if you're so concerned about capitalism and how 'the rich' use their money, we can go in public transport."
You nudge him away, letting out a huff. "Stop taking my words out of context."
"I'm pretty sure we're in context. Let me know if there are other places I should never go to in the future, by the way. Would hate to ruin the experiences of common people."
"You...!" You groan and ignore him, not bothering with it anymore. Sae's never going to let you live this down, not until you admit it was a bit silly, at least. You'll never, though, that's not who you are. And that's exactly what he likes, Sae enjoys whatever's wrong with you and messing with it as much as he can.
As much as you don't want to admit it, you actually end up having fun that night. The place Sae chose was indeed exclusive and secluded, and besides the ocassional poke, he knew to stop getting on your nerves.
You talked about the topics you usually did over text, and that easy familiarity you found both in banter and in deep conversation was found again. You really weren't dissapointed with Sae, despite the whole fiasco that happened before.
The stubborn part of you still wants to be annoyed. But the identities have fused seamlessly, so you're learning to like both sides.
Yes, you still like witty Sae who you used to chat with and whose charm is being honest to a fault.
Yes, you still kinda wanna smack Itoshi upside down, finding comfort in having a figure you can hate blindly with little reason.
And Itoshi Sae? Well, you're getting to know him now, so it's pretty early to say.
But with both good and bad... yeah, you think you'll end up liking him best.

"Are you ready, Vivien?"
"As ready as I'll ever be."
Soft music's filtering from the speakers, filling the dimly lit room. You're facing one another, like lovers do when pledging each other eternal love. Vows will be exchanged in this same afternoon, and yet no one's truly tying the knot. Silence lingers for a moment, as the seconds before your grand perfomance tick by.
That's all this is, an elaborate act. You needed to write a script of your own, act it out in front of your classmates. Give a show made completely by yourself for the sake of a grade. And well, a one man's show could work, but wouldn't a lovers tale be more intriguing? That's what you thought, before being quickly faced with the obstacle of needing an extra to give life to your draft.
Though you were initially disillusioned, Hugo wasn't one to cut your wings. Feeling at a crossroads, you asked for his opinion, and he graciously offered himself as the missing piece you were looking for.
And who were you to reject his help? He's a good friend, and with his stoic front, he'd clearly take it seriously and give his best performance.
Yet now, at the rehearsal of the final scenes, you'll soon find out he has little intentions of staying stoic.
"You can say your vows," you give him the cue in a soft tone. And with a solemnity that borders on reverence, his eyes finally roam your frame freely.
"Oh, chérie..." The words escape him before he can think, stalling to stare for a moment longer. You're wearing a pristine white, leaving you resembling of an angel. Hugo's always thought you were beautiful, but the soft silk wrapping around your body highlights your features in a bewitching way. The awareness that you're mirroring what couples use on their happiest day is making him feel lightheaded. The sight is like something out of his wildest dreams, making his lines escape his grasp.
How unfitting of him, to lose composure in such a menial situation. You're putting up a performance, professing each other a love previously inked in paper. As friends that you are, the moment is supposed to be lighthearted. But the formality Hugo can't help but treat it with is making the air feel heavier.
Oh, he's too taken by you to remember what he's supposed to say. You're looking at him so prettily, expectant for the confession his character is scripted to recite.
His mind is clouded with visions of you, and the fantasy is far more enticing than the reality that this moment is fabricated.
But if a confession is what you want, then you must consider yourself lucky that he'd never deny you.
"You are my destiny." Hugo finally utters, struggling to mantain his voice steady.
"...What?" Your blink twice, trying to remember if you actually wrote that dialogue. But Hugo's no longer thinking of the script— unbeknownst to you, he's stopped acting. His eyes, dark as void, bore into yours as he replies with conviction.
"I knew from the moment I laid eyes on you, that our lives were to be entwined." He softly states. "You're my happiness, my dream come true... And I couldn't be more thankful of our paths aligning so early."
Your breath catches, the intensity of his gaze is all consuming. You should interrupt him and ask for a retake, but gods, if you still count this as a performance, you must admit it's hypnotizing. He's long lost in a reverie, taking your hands in his shaky ones. A gesture you two agreed to and that was meant to happen, but that now feels undeniably charged.
"...You really mean it?" You whisper after brief doubt, keeping up the act with slight hesitation. You must be under the impression that he's testing your improvisation skills, or believe him to be too commited to stop his act due to a mistake. Something he'd find adorable, if he were concious enough of the situation to realize. But all he hears is the voice of the one he longs for questioning his devotion, and he can't allow such doubts to exist in his beloved's mind.
"Cross my heart and hope to die, mon ange." He swears. "I've never been more serious about anything in my life."
The certainty in his tone makes your heart beat faster, Hugo must appear a great actor to you in this moment. His fingers gingerly caress your hands, the trembling of his own having yet to cease. He doesn't think it will anytime soon, as being allowed to be in contact with your skin might as well be the same as getting a taste of heaven.
How many nights had he dreamt of holding the hands of the one promised to him, how many times had he wondered how the skin of his other half would feel under his. To be now standing in front of you still feels like an illusion, and your touch is the sole thing assuring him this is not yet another fantasy.
If unclear before, Hugo really meant it when he said you were his dream come true. Love had never been at the forefront of his mind before meeting you, he didn't think his destiny was geared in that direction. He had never experienced romantic attraction, and from an outsider's perspective, it felt like an hindrance that would distract him from his true purpose.
However, things tilted the moment he met you. Something changed deep within, even if he didn't understand then. He could swear he felt the tug of that red string on his pinky, making him aware of that world of romance he had never paid attention to before.
After meeting you, he discovered all sorts of fuzzy feelings he had deemed but a mere illusion.
And day by day, his love grew stronger, until the desire of living that dream planted itself deep in his core.
How foolish of him, to think love wouldn't be a part of his life. What is love if not a matter of destiny? Why would he not get a soulmate with whom he'd get to share his days. He finally understood it, there was someone meant for him too all along. And for you to evoke such intense feelings that spread in his chest like a wildfire... He was sure you were his one and only.
He can't believe he spent so much time alive without being able to enjoy the warmth from your presence. That he almost denied himself a life with the one who completed him, his other half.
It made want to pounce and confess the moment he realized, to hoard you like a treasure so you'd never be out of his sight. Trap you like a firefly in a lantern, watch you shine for hours on end knowing your light is his to witness.
You left him completely unraveled, emotion carving into his very being and turning him into something unrecognizable. He, a normally composed man, was left desperate and consumed by the desire of having you in his life, as soon as he could get you.
He wanted to ignore all pretenses of propriety and let you know immediately of the way you had shifted his purpose.
But even while vulnerable at the face of his new feelings, Hugo's rational enough to admit that'd be less than ideal.
Why? Because he knows you already belong to each other. If you're eventually going to be at his side, he'd rather not do something rash and delay your eventual relationship. The price for scaring you away is not something he wishes to pay. So he has to play in the hands of fate for some time, letting you keep your distance before you fall into his arms. He ought to perform his role accordingly, and wait for you to realize you're his like he did once.
How he yearns to hold you in his arms so tightly, to whisper sweet nothings to your ear as you fall asleep. But that'll come, eventually, as rushing could contort the path you're meant to walk together. So for now, he'd told himself he'd wait, keeping himself content with fantasies of what the future with you could be like.
If only he could remember that promise in this moment.
Alas, his love is too strong to be held back for long, specially when the ceremonial-like setting is making him feel like he's in one of his daydreams.
"You took so long to come around, my dear, running circles around me like frightened hare." He resumes speaking. "You did not have to fear, don't you see? I've been holding my arms open for you all along."
"Vivien..." You curse your slip, shaking your head slightly, "Um, I... wasn't sure if you'd still have me."
"And what gave you that impression?" He asks, his voice barely a rumble in the quiet of the room. "All I've ever done is wait for you."
You take a breath, trying to remember any line from your script and failing miserably. Continuing to improvise is growing more and more difficult, you don't know how he's been able to keep going so seamlessly. That's also because you're acting and he's not, but you remain unaware of that fact.
Hugo keeps staring deep into your eyes, his arms enveloping your frame and pulling you closer. You push through the haze of your mind, coming up with something to answer. "I was afraid you'd lose interest after the chase ended, or that something else would tear us apart."
His eyes soften imperceptibly, his forehead dropping to rest against yours. "So it's fear of separation that keeps you from loving me. Well, you do not need be afraid. Heaven and heaven alone could take you away from me, as we are fated to be."
"Vivien—" His name leaves your lips again, now more intentional than before. The closeness is making you dizzy, he can't seem pull away from you. With every word uttered, he tries to swallow up space, like he can't exist without your warmth after being allowed to get so near. And as if you never called, his bubble still doesn't burst.
"You understand now?" He breathes ever so softly, "It's stupid to fight this feeling, as life would find a way to lead us back together. I'd be a fool to ever leave you, and a fool I'd never be. You're more than life to me, my beloved—"
"...Hugo." You speak more firmly, the use of his last name hitting him like a bucket of cold water. Startled, his eyes widen slightly, their intensity dimming somewhat.
"...Yes?"
"You're going off script." You finally inform him.
Hugo slowly disentangles from you, taking once more a polite distance. He clears his throat, gaze averted as reality dawns upon him fully. "...I apologize. I forgot my lines and resorted to improvising."
You take a few seconds to compose yourself, processing whatever the hell just happened while Hugo stands there sheepishly. He almost wants to apologize again, not only for not sticking to his character in the play, but for missing his life role as well. Worry that he ruined it all by confessing prematurely consumes him... But as he lifts his concerned gaze to meet yours, he only sees joy.
"Vivien, that... that was beautiful." You whisper in genuine awe. "You're so incredibly good at acting, I'm amazed. I can't even be mad that you forgot your lines, since you could've fooled anyone into thinking you said the right thing. You got me doubting myself, even, and I wrote the script!"
An airy giggle escapes you, breaking the earlier tension. You look a bit unsure still, but excitement is overriding the earlier emotions easily.
Hugo's expression slowly calms, relief overwhelming his senses. He finds that sparkle in your eyes to be most hypnotizing.
"You conveyed emotions so flawlessly that it felt real. I think you should get the grade I'm going to be given when we present, i could barely keep up with you." You tease him lightheartedly.
"Don't sell yourself short, chérie. You are amazing at what you do, I give you my word."
"You're too kind, Vivi. Had I known you were improvising, I might have been able to act better— I'll give you that. I'll have to ask you to try and stick to the original at least a bit, though."
"I'm aware. I apologize again." he repeats solemnly.
You're fine, really," you turn around as you speak, reaching for your draft of the play and a pen, "You've actually helped me more by going off-script."
"By which you mean...?" Hugo takes a step closer, confusion laced in his tone.
Before he can question you further, you lift your work, turning your head back to look at him with a cheeky smile. "That I'll definitely take inspiration from your performance now, Vivi."
God bless your clueless soul... His slip up was literally covered by the fact that you're as dense as a rock.
But Hugo doesn't mind pretending a bit longer, if it makes you keep smiling at him like that.
"I'm glad I could be of help, chérie." The pet name still leave his lips effortlessly.
You nudge him playfully, taking a seat, "Don't call me that when we're not rehearsing, it's kinda cheesy."
Hugo nods, not complaining, sitting beside you in silence.
He doesn't mind pretending for some more,
You'll soon be as his as he is now yours.
— notes: i had to rewrite this SO MANY TIMES and I still don't think I'm done editing it. fic took me so long but i wanted to push myself with my writing so these are but the consencuences of my own actions. lost count of how many times i had to look for synonyms for "destiny" and "daydream". anyway, this may not be my magnum opus as i expected but im glad i fulfilled this idea. How do you confess to the most popular girl of your college? Choso's desperately trying to find out.
After becoming deskmates for your shared class, Choso found out that the hype about you wasn't fake. That you were known everywhere not only because you were always up to something, but because you were genuinely pleasing to be around.
Interacting regularly with one of the campus' most popular students was not on his bingo card, but he doesn't regret it. At least not like he thought he would at the start. Choso believed that he, a quiet guy who stuck to books before people, barely talked to strangers and just minded his own business would never get along with you, who's so bubbly and always surrounded by people. But god was he wrong, and oh, is he glad.
Now he's developed a silly crush on the sweet girl who listens to him so intently and actually cares for his input, and he's more stressed out than he's ever been with any finals season.
Why? Because he knows that you're both from different worlds. And yet, the way you brush his bangs out of his face when you study together, and how your gaze lingers before you tear it away, has him hoping he might have a shot.
That, and Yuji telling him "she soooo has a crush on you" when he broke down and told him everything about his litlle predicament.
So he spent his night away writing a letter, knowing he wasn't good with words in person. He washed his hair you'd stared at so much, and decided to wear that cardigan you complimented once.
He drove to campus despite it being his free day, just because he knew you'd be there. Asked around if anyone had seen you, just to know for sure if you felt what he did.
However... the answer he gets is dissapointing, to say the least.
"Oh, her? Saw her talking to Naoya at the cafeteria," A random student replies. "He was probably asking her out for Gojo's party this weekend. It's a big thing, so people like to bring their flings and whatnot."
Oh, right. Gojo's party. The one he holds at the end of every semester. You had told him about it in passing, asked if he planned to go. He answered a vague 'maybe'— he'd gone last semester to pick his brother up, maybe he'd have do it again this year. The silence had stretched in that moment, before you awkwardly changed the topic. So you were really planning to go, and he had the chance to just ask you then... what a way to fumble.
"Naoya... asked her out?" Choso croaks weakly, his expression souring at the mention of that guy. He's a total asshole, but he's also popular in the frat and a total looker. Many girls go out of their way to flirt with him despite his reputation of not treating women right. He fears you too had fallen for his cheap charm.
To his despair, the guy nods. "I think so. He was looking smug and had his little entourage of frat boys surrounding him. Naoya actually bringing a girl to an event does sound interesting, I suppose."
"She wouldn't agree," He thinks out loud, trying to convince himself that he knows you enough to say that. But the student shrugs, saying he didn't see the end of it and that there's a good chance.
There's a good chance.
Choso's plans crumble under that thought.
He walkes away, going nowhere in particular. With earbuds on that play a gloomy tune, the letter in his bag suddenly feels too heavy to carry. Naoya's a douchebag, but he has influence. He was quicker than him, took the chance he didn't. And now Choso's publicly sulking while strollling through the campus, because a part of him is still hoping to see you.
At least, then, he'd be happy for a moment. He could just ask you, too... get his info from the direct source. He simply fears he won't be able to keep his mouth shut if you confirm, and begin badmouthing Naoya and make you hate him. He trusts you and wants to respect your choices, but his will is not that strong to let you go with the biggest idiot around without trying to advise you against it.
Ugh, this is the worst. Choso decides to just go home, but walks past the flower shop next to the campus' entrance. Naoya wouldn't bother getting you those. He's too self-absorbed to think of what you'd enjoy. But Choso? He had filed away in his mind the moment you told him about your favorite flowers, just casually. And he can't help but think that had he followed through with his plan, a bouquet would have been a great addition.
He gets absort in that idea, picturing the glee in your face as you receive those imaginary flowers.
He gets so, so deep in thought, that he can't help but think... What was it if not destiny, that made him go back in his way and stumble with the flower shop?
Choso already lost a few chances, but you're still somewhere in campus right now.
So before he can go against his true wishes, he says to hell with holding his peace with a situation he's not happy with and makes the gamble.
Choso leaves the flower shop with a huge bouquet in his hands. He asks around again (not ideal for the quiet boy, but he pushes through) and finds Shoko, a close friend of yours. With a smirk, she tells him you two just finished lunch together, and that she'll deliver the letter for him.
He does all this while holding the flowers against his chest, telling himself he's being secretive enough. The look in your friend's eyes says she knows exactly what's going on, though.
In the letter, Choso had asked you to meet him at a specific location to talk more about his feelings. This so you could give an answer to his face and settle things properly. Sure, he was supposed to give you the letter like an hour ago, giving himself time to prepare emotionally. He feels like he's in a tight deadline, but he's not backing out now.
He gets to the secluded spot soon, a beautiful green area where he likes to sit when he needs to kill time. He's pacing around this time, though. He has no experience with love and so far it's been nerve-wracking. A tap on his shoulder makes him get back to reality, turning around as fast as he can.
"Choso...?" Your soft, uncertain voice greets him, and he feels both a spike of panic and a sense of relief. It's weird, but that's just how you make him feel. Like a lovesick fever that just doesn't go away (...let's pretend he didn't once go to the infirmary to get himself checked for it).
"...Hi," He musters, face warming before you even say anything. His eyes are fixed on the floor, bracing himself for anything.
"You wrote me a letter," You start awkwardly, your tone frail and thin. He's avoiding looking at you, but he sees you fiddling with your thumbs from the corner of his eye. He wonders if this is weird for you or if you're just shy.
At your question, he only nods. This is harder than he thought. You shift your weight, taking a quiet breath before continuing. "You also brought flowers. The ones I told you I like. So... you really mean it, right?"
Choso straightens up immediately. "Of course. This is not a joke to me, nor I'm doing it because of the party or anything."
You tilt your head slowly, "The party...? What do you mean?"
"I mean, that I heard you got asked out by Naoya, so you could go together to Gojo's party." His voice takes a more serious tone, nerves forgotten as he commits to speaking his mind.
"So I feel like, by coming in the middle of you two, it may seem like I only did it out of jealousy, or to prove something. But that was just bad timing. I'd been thinking of telling you this for a while, and I believe you deserve to know even if you choose someone else."
Your draw a breath and try to speak, but he continues before you can. His eyes are closed and his mind focused, finally pouring out his heart like he intended to.
"I know that we just met this semester, but your presence is greatly pleasing to me. You don't... seem to think I'm weird, you don't settle for that. You actually took the time to get to know me, to listen, to be there for me. And I wanted appreciate that platonically, but I don't think I can anymore. So even if it ruins our friendship, I had to tell you."
You're stunned into silence, and for a moment, his worry returns. That is, until he opens his eyes to finally meet your gaze, as solemnly as he can through the gaps of the bouquet, and notices you blushing into oblivion.
"Are you okay?" Choso immediately springs into action, leaning closer to inspect you. Sure he's not that clueless, he knows people's faces grow hot from embarrassment as well, but he doesn't take chances and asks: "Do you feel sick?"
You shake your head frantically, covering your face with your hands. Had he known how affected you were, he would have waited for you to feel better, but he's already put you in a weird situation. He looks at you with those soft, utterly worried puppy eyes, and you almost combust right there.
"Choso, I..." You take yet another deep breath, gainig courage, "I've been hoping you ruined our friendship."
He stills at your words, the slight downturn on his lips betraying his sadness. "Why is that? I was hoping it also meant a lot to you?"
"You- It does! Gosh, you sure are oblivious..." you rub your temples, trying to calm down. "I meant that I'm also interested in you, I just didn't know how to tell you. I tried to say something so many times, but I kept backing out. I'm glad you told me."
"So you actually...?" He mutters, slowly catching on. And despite the softness of the moment, he can't help but follow up, "So you're not going with Naoya?"
That sobers you up real quick. "What? No! Ew, no. Him? The nerve he had to even ask. He's an idiot!"
He exhales, deeply relieved. "I am so glad you think the same. If you had told me you accepted, I would have tried to discourage you. That man doesn't know how to treat a woman right."
The implication that he, unlike the afore mentioned bastard, would know how to act well makes heat crawl up to your face. You can't help yourself from continuing to slander Naoya, though, softness pushed aside for the moment. "Right? And he's so shallow. He thought that because we were both popular around here, I'd say yes. I don't care about any of that, he was really stupid to believe such a thing."
Choso shifts his weight shyly at your comment, your eyes catching it. "Choso... did you also really think I'd say yes because of that?"
He lowers his head meekly, and you sigh. "You're something else, you know..."
A moment of silence passes, before you speak again. "For the record, I really don't care. That's why I talked to you anyway. It's really cold to pick and choose who to be with just because of popularity. There's great people to find everywhere."
Choso's eyes soften, your way of thinking is one of the things he likes about you. Makes him think that he shouldn't even have doubted that you'd reject him. At least he can make it up to you now.
"I would have told you to come with me, even as friends," you continued, "But I didn't know if you were interested in parties. When I asked you, and you said you might go, I thought... I thought you were going with someone else, and you didn't want to hurt me by saying it outright."
Choso looks at you like you just told him the sky is green. "...What? You're right, I don't like parties much. With who would I even...?"
"Wait. So you're not going with Yuki?" You blurt out.
"Huh? No! I barely know her." he shakes his head frantically. "Yuki's Todo's senior, so it's more Yuji's circle than anything. She just likes poking light fun of me when she sees me. About you, often, after we started talking."
"Oh, I thought..." You trail off. Yuki has a thing for making it look like's she's flirting with anyone she talks to. It's just how she is, you've never thought anything of it. But seeing her talk to Choso, who never talks to anyone who's not close... it made you think something else.
Was your thought process really affected just because you like him? This is mad embarrassing. She was teasing him about you, too, quietly playing matchmaker. The worst is that you're sure she knew what she was doing. Now you know why she asked you about your relationship with Choso with such curiosity.
You exhale, you'll face Yuki's playful smirk and hold a petty grudge against her later. Right now, Choso's staring at you intently, waiting for your attention.
"So you also thought I was going with someone else?" His lips curve up, "That's... silly, now that we cleared it up."
"Yeah, it'll be a fun story to tell." You can't help but smile as well.
"So... you want to go with me instead?" Choso asks softly, your heart skipping a beat at his tone. And the way his smile widens when you nod makes you feel like it may as well explode.
His face turns a pretty crimson, processing everything that's happened in the last few hours. He gently eases the bouquet into your arms, remembering he's been holding it the entire time from the slight numbness of his arms.
"Thank you," You mutter softly, hiding behind it.
And the rest of your day is spent between loving whispers and affectionate smiles.
At the end of that same week, you both get ready to attend the party.
Except you end up ditching it, not too eager to face Naoya who's been insulting you in your every social media app after rejecting him. You've blocked him in like five of those at this point. You're hoping he doesn't send you and email next (though you doubt he knows how to manage mail properly by himself).
Choso, of course, was happy with your choice. He wouldn't have minded if that's what made you happy, but he can think of many other places and activities for you two to spend the night doing.
So you both take your time and go through the list, trying out snacks, leaning on each other at the library, and setting up a reminder to pick Yuji up from the party once it starts getting late.
You take a picture of the two of you, soft launching your relationship to your close friends immediately. Just sneaking a picture of your face and Choso's hands with the book you're both checking out. For some reason, most of them recognize him immediately. Very few are surprised, though they're all supportive.
You stare at it for a moment, before turning back to Choso with a smile.
First date immortalized.

The first rays of sunlight began filtering through the window, early morning setting in. Yukimiya laid by your sleeping frame in bed while reading a book, the dim light of the bed lamp doing enough to not disturb you. It's too early to get up, specially in his free day. Getting some quiet time for himself while waiting for you to wake sounded more tempting than getting up and about at the moment.
The chirping of the birds outside were his only company for a little while, until you began shifting more often. When you were concious enough to start looking for his warmth, he put the book aside, wrapping an arm around you. "Good morning, sweetheart."
You squirmed some more, burying your face against him for a moment. Slowly lifting your head, your eyes dazedly zeroed on his face, before a huff escaped you. "No good morning for you."
Yukimiya blinked in slight surprise, before smiling in light amusement. "Why is that? Did I hog the blanket unknowingly? Or did you dream I left you for one of my teammates, for whatever reason?"
"No... not this time." You shook your head, voice still small and groggy from sleep. Apparently, Yukimiya still remembered when you didn't talk to him because of that one dream. In your defense, when you watched the broadcast of the Blue Lock program, his teammates were always all over each other, too invested in competition for it to feel weirdly personal. Yukki wasn't in such scenes often, but your brain twisted it as it is known to do. Regardless, this time, it tried a different tactic.
"I dreamt something else, and I don't like how you acted in the dream." You added, crosssing your arms.
"Oh yeah? Do tell me," He probed, shifting on his side to look at you.
"Well... We were in a zombie apocalypse." You closed your eyes, recounting the dream in your mind.
"Strong start," Yukimiya commented humorously.
"...Except they weren't really like the zombies we know," You continued, "they just acted like ones. They smiled creepily and looked crazy, but didn't bite, kill and stuff."
"Are you sure they weren't just sleep deprived people?" He hummed, pulling you closer and against his chest.
"No, they were zombies, trust me." You argued drowsily, while he just nodded and cradled you against him—hoping you didn't remember you're trying to be mad at him.
"In the dream, we were discussing strategy with other survivors. I took out two chairs, one for you, one for me. Just so we could sit together. And you didn't even say thank you, you know." You grumbled, your voice coming out muffled as you spoke against his skin.
Well, this was way better than your past dreams. At least now you're only mad because his dream self wasn't as courteous as you wanted him to. He could compliment his way out way easily.
"Sorry about that, dear. Maybe my dream self was too worried about the apocalyptic catastrophe to catch on you trying to get my attention." Yukimiya apologized, the hint of sass well hidden in his tone as he rubbed a strand of your hair between his fingers.
"Well, you could have done more. I tried to impress you many times."
"In the middle of a strategic meeting to battle zombies."
"Still."
He smiled, "Well, continue."
"Soo, there was an outbreak, and the weird zombies were entering the house we were in. The group split up, and we were paired to defend an area." You pulled back enough to look at him, "So I started fighting them off while you remained sat like a little princess. And again, you didn't even say thank you!"
Yukimiya stifled a laugh at your little outburst, watching as you rolled away from him in the bed. He tried to scoot closer, your back facing him. "I thought you wanted to impress me? I was just watching you work."
"But you were practically ignoring me..." You groaned, not turning to face him even as his arms sneaked around your waist.
"...I was trying to mansplain to you about the zombies while fighting, but you just sat there in a trance. You joined me after I had taken out like, 50 of them, and didn't marvel at my extensive knowledge." You sulked.
"Cut a guy some slack, darling. It's the apocalypse." He teases as he turns you around. "What should I have said instead, my brave saviour?"
"The bare minimum, Yukki!" You took his hands, placing them on your cheeks like you were mimicking the scene. "'Wow, love, you know so much! Gosh, you're so good at fighting despite having no experience! You're so cool, let's get married before we all die!' that's it."
"Aren't you a joy to be around," He murmured to himself, pinching your cheeks. He kept speaking before you could protest. "I can still marry you, if that's what ails you so much. Except I'll propose to you in a meaningful way and moment, not in... a life threatening situation."
You remained quiet for a second, before sighing dramatically. "I'll let you off the hook this once."
"I'm forever grateful for your kindness, dear. I won't repeat my mistakes. If we're ever facing the end, I promise I'll rush to the front to protect you." He embraces you again, finally successful on holding you without you squirming around.
"And you'll flirt back when I do," You added.
"If you want me to," He conceded.
Silence lingered for a moment, the two of you enjoying each other's warmth before having to face the day. At least, until you perked up, looking at him like you forgot something.
"Oh! Before that, I dreamt that I had to flirt with a teammate of yours. Though he ignored me, and that was it."
Yukki remains silent for a moment, before shrugging.
"Maybe you deserved me ignoring you in your dream."

Your boyfriend has been sporting the same hair style since the first day you’ve met him.
His trademark space buns were part of his identity at this point and you’d rarely see him without them, unless it's wash day and he has to let his hair out, otherwise his hair will be simply parted in the middle and tied in two separate buns.
However, for some reason, he decided to make a change in his style for once. You don’t know what inspired the sudden decision, but you still support it obviously and offered to help since you’re quite good with hair.
He showed you the reference picture. ‘It looks simple. It shouldn’t take too long’ you thought.

What should’ve taken less than two or something hours has extended to nearly three because this boy won’t stop flinching and complaining whenever you touch his head.

After hours of pain and suffering — his words, not yours — you were finally done. Well, almost done. There were still at least ten braids left to go…why does this boy need to have this much hair, huh? You’re kind of jealous that he has that much hair, but you’re definitely not jealous of how tender his scalp is…Because he’s been acting as if you’re doing some sort of acupuncture on his head or something. You can’t help but smile at the thought of his teammates seeing him act this whiny right now.
“How many are left…”

Isagi's collected a good number of aliases with time. He's been called a genius, has had straight-up insults hurled at him, but his personal favorite nickname? It has to be Yocchan.
Not necessarily because it's his childhood nickname... he actually finds it pretty embarrasing. It's the person he's associated it with that makes him look at it fondly.
You, the one he's known since kindergarten. The one that approached him every once in a while, small fist full of candy and face decorated with a warm smile.
Isagi was known to be a crybaby. Other kids didn't understand him, as he didn't like loud noises, he'd start crying with no apparent reason and was overall extremely timid. You didn't seem to care, though, always approaching to check on him, even when your presence would make him recoil even further.
It took him a while, but eventually, he warmed up to you. His parents were also really supportive of your budding friendship, making sure one of Isagi's only friends (if not the only one then) would have plenty of chances to hang out with him. It wasn't long until you heard them call him that nickname. It took even less for you to start calling him that as well.
You stuck together for a few years, growing up side by side. You saw him change little by little, saw the birth of his dreams and the discovery of his passion, yet your relationship remained unchanged. You were comfortable with each other, and it really seemed like nothing could tear the two apart.
That was, until your parents told you you'd be moving away.
It's safe to say you were devastated. Sure, you had friends other than him, but you held the once shy boy close to your heart. With a tight hug and teary eyes, you said goodbye to your childhood friend. And with a heavy heart and damp cheeks, Isagi cried when you left, knowing for once what it was like to shed tears not out of fear, but from the pain of losing someone.
The two of you moved on with your lives. Isagi chased his dreams, meeting many struggles in the way, but never relenting. He never fully forgot you, though, sometimes wondering what you'd tell him when he made advances or met defeat. Still, soccer grew to be more demanding of his time and mind the more he progressed. So slowly, those comforting thoughts began filling out of his head, becoming less frequent.
He didn't think he'd ever see you again. Wishful thinking gave him hope for a while, but at some point, he just stopped thinking about it. You were too little to exchange contacts, and your parents somehow lost communication. So for the longest time, he thought of you as a cherished connection from a past life stage. That was, until a certain day.
Isagi was home after a match, wiped and only wanting to relax while enjoying his mom's cooking. He was already done with that last one, until his mom, who had gotten up to get the door, approached him out of nowhere.
"Hey, Yoichi, I know you're tired, but there's someone here who'd like to see you." She told him with a wide smile.
He wasn't thrilled at being interrupted, yet curiosity made him stand and follow her. But out of all people, he never thought he'd be seeing you again.
"It's you!" You barreled towards him, an 'oof' escaping him as you embraced him. Confusion lasted him only a second, as the memories overwhelmed him suddenly. Your voice that had barely changed, your scent he never found in someone else. Your smile when you pulled back with glossy eyes, which grew wider once he uttered your name correctly.
You hugged him again, while he stared at you in awe. You had changed so much, but were still so.... you, in a way. A laugh of disbelief, eyes crinkling as he asked, "How did you find me?"
"Well, I saw you on the local sport news." You explained with a giggle, his cheeks warming in slight embarrassment. He forgot he kinda became a thing while you were gone. "I moved back for studies recently, and when I saw you on TV, I realized you play for the same school I'm transfering to. I was really happy... but I couldn't hold back from wanting to see you early, so I came to check if you still lived in the same place. And well... you know the rest."
You laughed again, clearly ecstatic. He was in a similar position, cheeks hurting from smiling so much. You calmed down, looking at him hopefully. And with a smile, "We have so much to talk about, Yocchan."
...And talk you did. Isagi learned quickly that you didn't call him that for old time's sake, it had become a whole habit. You exchanged contacts, began talking every day, and met up often after you transfered successfully. but despite Isagi meekly telling you to just call him by his name, you just wouldn't stop calling him Yocchan. It was endearing, but quite embarrasing. Especially when other people where around.
Now, he'd never be ashamed of you. You were his dear friend, and it was a reminder of how your friendship started. It was a bit silly in front of others, and his parents would tease him about it. But overall, it wasn't an issue and he got used to it quickly.
Now, that's with his parents and randoms. With his teammates, though? That's a whole 'nother case.
Thing is, you were pretty curious about his soccer career. So proud of how far your yocchan had come, you wanted to know everything about it. You went to all the matches you could, supportive as ever. But from the moment you ran to him after a victory to congratulate him, his eyes weren't the only ones that looked for you across the field.
"Hey Isagi, who's this cutie?" Otoya was the first to approach, some curious players hovering nearby. He was already glaring at him, sensing the intention behind his question, but you spoke first.
"Hi! I'm Yocchan's childhood friend!"
You shook his hand gleefully, while Isagi froze in the background. Did you really have to introduce yourself like that? Did you really have to use the nickname?! Oh he was mortified, the laughter that followed from the boys telling him enough about the teasing that'd come soon.
And right he was, as he couldn't have a normal practice day without someone calling him 'Yocchan' and teasing him about you.
Isagi was flustered to death. He didn't need them joking about you, nor he wanted them asking questions. He really didn't, much less, when his feelings for you started growing deeper than expected.
Isagi thought he could handle it. He really thought the stutter his heart gave when you called him by that childhood nickname was just embarrasment, until he realized it happened whenever you talked at all. He believed the giddiness he felt with you was just happiness from meeting you again, until five months went by and he kept feeling the same. It hit him finally when Valentines Day came close, and he felt dread at the thought of you spending it with someone else.
He was in deep, and he had to do something. You deserved to know how much you've always meant to him, and how that fondness grew into warmer emotions.
So what did Isagi do?
Write a letter for you and leave it unsigned.
Yeah, yeah, it's a cowardly move. What use there is if he doesn't tell you it's him? It's a poor choice for a confession. But the fear of losing your friendship made him step back, so he wrote anonymously to gauge how you'd react.
It's a strategy, he swears.
But Bachira, who accidentally found the letter while Isagi wasn't there, thinks not.
His friend left it where he found it, but talked about it to some other boys.
And what came from that?
...Let's just say Isagi had a lot waiting for him the following day.

Valentines Day rolls by, with an Isagi who's trying really hard to pretend he didn't care about the holiday. He goes through training as usual, though he can tell there's something amiss in the way the rest looks at him. It doesn't take long for him to adress it, asking what'ss going on once in the locker room.
"You wrote a love letter for your friend." Bachira explains straightforwadly, smile bright like he isn't ruining Isagi's reputation (they all know).
"What? No, I didn't-" He stammers, but no one buys it.
"So it's for someone else?" Karasu asks, already smirking. "We saw you writing something in yesterday's break, you can't pretend it wasn't you."
Did they really? This is bad. He racks his brain for an excuse, blurting out the first thing that came to mind. "You've got the wrong idea. I actually, uh... wrote it for a friend who's not good with words. I'm helping someone else confess."
"Confess to your best friend, right? Because their name was there." Reo butts in, tone too cheerful for someone who's making Isagi's day worse.
"How did you all-" A exhale. "Yes, I helped someone else confess to my friend, because I know them better than anyone else. That's... Exactly what happened."
He feels guilty for lying, but nervousness pushed him this far. It's too late to take his words back, and he just wants an out from this sudden group interrogation about a way too personal matter.
The boys hum to themselves, and for a moment Isagi thinks the excuse landed and they'll leave him alone. But he sees some smirks widening, and the words he hears next embody a fate far way worse than mere teasing.
"So, since it's not you who is confessing... You won't mind if we shoot our shot, right?" Aiku takes a step closer to him, and Isagi freezes.
"You... what?" He mutters, but the man only offers a shrug.
"You said it's a friend of yours who's confessing. And I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I think I could make a better choice than that random guy."
"Wait, don't count me out. I've been eeying them since the start!" Otoya chimes in, practically summoned into the conversation.
Sendou goes next, "Isagi's friend is too cute and kind for you two serial womanizers. I want a chance!"
"I don't think you should be talking, Sendou," Kunigami joins, "Even I could be better than all of you combined."
And the more people talk, Isagi loses it further. Even Kunigami?? He'd never expect it from him. Nagi mumbles something about you being nice to him once, and he's in shock he even remembered you existed. When did you become so popular, and why's his whole team interested in you? This couldn't have a worst timing.
Isagi's scrambling for words to say, shaking his head. "You... can't, I already delivered the letter this morning. So I- I mean, my friend, still stands a greater chance."
"But was the letter signed? 'Cause I recall it wasn't." Chigiri smugly joins, and Isagi's soul leaves his body (again). Really, how did all of them know the details of his written confession by heart?
"What's your point?" He asks between gritted teeth, growing tense.
"Well," Chigiri, looks up, taking his sweet time, "Just saying, that if anyone's fast enough... they could just claim it's theirs."
The words land heavily, the whole room falling silent for a moment.
And there was not a moment in life in which Isagi ran faster.
He forgets about time and space for a moment, all he knows is that he needs to find you. It's break around this time, that he can remember, dashing through halls like his life depends on it.
He can't let the others get to you first. No, not after all you've both been through. Isagi would be damned if he lost you like this, if he let fear dominate his life one more time. He isn't willing to pay the price of being a coward, not when it comes to you. The bitter truth that anyone else could win you over while he waits for the perfect moment is too much for him to handle, but he isn't keen on wasting time any longer.
Isagi looks inside many classrooms, just in case you were still inside one. He gets scolded by a teacher once, earns weird looks from students several times. All until he remembers: The rooftop. The place you once told him you liked to go when you wanted to be alone.
He's panting after climbing all the stairs, but it's all worth it. Standing it front of the railing, there you stand, fiddling with a piece of paper in your hands. A piece of paper he surely recognizes.
Isagi calls your name, making you turn his way. You smile confusedly, head tilting. "Yocchan? Why are you here?"
But instead of answering, he walks towards you, quickly closing the distance. "I need to talk to you."
"Uh, sure, is everything okay?" You ask, a tad concerned at the weight behind his voice. You fiddle with the corners of the letter, putting it behind your back. Isagi doesn't miss the movement, eyes following it. "It's... actually about that."
You pause. "This letter?"
"Yes, that letter... My letter." He finally manages to say, a small gasp escaping you.
"You... wrote this, Yoichi?" His heart stutters in his chest as you use his given name, the air clearly shifting and turning more serious. He nods solemnly, exhaling.
"I did. I've been thinking about us often. About how you always stood by me since day one, even when everyone else pulled away. How you're one of the few people that know my past, stay in my present, and I want in my future. I couldn't resist writing it, my emotions turned too strong for me to bear... But I was afraid of jinxing what we already have."
Your breath hitches at his confession, hanging onto every soft spoken word. A hand of his finds yours, eyes glistening as they stay on your face. "I lost you once, and I really don't want to lose you twice. So I owe you honesty at the very least, right?"
Isagi smiles awkwardly, the earlier adrenaline washing off and making him feel self-concious. Okay, he just confessed. He really did. The emotions he had ruminated about for months suddenly came out due to a rush of fear. They're now laid in the open, making him vulnerable. And he's never felt so exposed.
You're not far behind, oddly quiet for how you tend to be. Unconciously, you drop the letter, in favor of wrapping your arms around him. "You're still as earnest as you're shy, Yocchan."
Isagi blinks confusedly at your words. Is this a rejection? It seems like you're avoiding to answer. He embraces you back regardless, his heart racing in his chest. You lean back slightly after a bit, and look at him with glossy eyes. "Took you long enough."
"...What?" He blurts out, his brain struggling to catch up with the facts. You giggle softly at his reaction, wiping the tears of... relief? from your face.
"I knew from the beginning that I wanted to stay close to you, that I'd never let go after we reunited. But like yourself, I held back, not wanting to force my feelings onto you." You explain in a murmur. "I thought you'd be so focused on your career to ever think of love, so I just supported you as a friend. But reading your letter... I kept hoping the whole day that you'd come and tell me it was you."
You take a deep breath, smiling softly. "And you did, after all. And I couldn't be more happy that you chose me."
Isagi stares at you in something close to awe, your smile making him feel lightheaded. He shakes his head as he processes what you said, determination overcoming him. "You say that as if I'd ever choose anyone else. I feel like deep down I knew it was you or nothing, that's why I never pursued anyone else romantically."
Your face feels imposibly hot at his comfession, making you hide your face on his shoulder. "Oh, Yoichi..." You sniffle, and you feel his arms tightening slightly around you.
"You're still so emotional," He whispers with a smile, "I thought I was the crybaby."
"Shut up..." You pull back immediately to retort, pinching his cheek. "You don't get to talk, I saw your eyes getting shiny."
"Hey..." Isagi pouts, rubbing the spot you pinched. "I'm still not the one who's crying."
"You may cry less now, Yocchan, but cheeks are just as chubby." You tease, not wasting a single moment to get back at him.
"Can't you at least not call me that in this moment?" He complains, face flushed in obvious embarrassment.
"I already called you by your name twice today, and that's all you're getting. Never again, okay? It's Yocchan forever."
Isagi wants to keep the banter going and pretend to be annoyed, but the prospect is actually quite enticing. He loves knowing that only the closest people in his life call him that, and that you've claimed your place as one before you two even knew how to count. He nods meekly, eyes softening impossibly. And when your smile grows wider, he lets himself melt in your arms like he's always belonged there.
The two of you begin dating after that, and it feels like it was always bound to happen. Isagi's parents don't show surprise but are incredibly happy and supportive, like they placed the very first brick for your current relationship many years ago.
The next day, you walk Isagi to practice and kiss his cheek to bid him goodbye, uncaring of anyone who might see. And as lovesick as Isagi is, he doesn't pay attention either... Until you're out of sight and he has to face his teammates.
"Yeah, man, I thought you didn't want 'em," Otoya coments, dissapointed.
"Well, I do, and none of you will ever get a chance." Isagi stands his ground, too possesive to sound like himself but also unable to forget what happened the last time he saw them. Instead of more dissapointment, he's met with laughter, leaving him confused.
"Why are you are laughing...? Didn't you guys say you wanted to confess?" He asks, and more chuckles follow.
"I mean, your friend looks great and all, but you're both so obviously in love that it felt pointless to try." Aiku grins.
"I would have, but you two gave me the ick." Even Otoya agrees.
"I said what Reo told me to," Nagi.
"You're both too close, and I still want to date a model," Sendou.
"I would never make advances to a friend's crush," Kunigami.
It goes on until everyone explains their stance, the truth now apparent.
"So you all... lied?" Isagi croaks, speechless.
They shrug, "Would you have tried if we didn't?"
Isagi's eye twitches at how his friends deceived him, torn between feeling betrayed and thanking the assist.
"You're welcome!" Bachira comments in a sing-song tone, clapping his hands in joy for the couple.
The boys begin filtering towards the field, some patting Isagi's shoulder as they pass him by or saying something teasing.
And though he'll give them hell for this now... he can't deny he's thankful.

Sunlight streamed through your window, signaling the beginning of a new day. After some trouble to get up and a quick trip to the bathroom, you made your way to the living room, spotting Choso already there. He looked absort in something, his gaze almost fond, and the sight piqued your curiosity and drew you in.
You quietly aproached and sat beside him, waiting for him to notice you.
"Good morning," Choso greeted once he felt your presence next to him, making proper space for you.
"Morning..." Your eyes drifted towards an object he was holding, making curiosity spark within you. "What's that?"
Choso's face lit up at your question, smiling faintly. "It's a picture of me and my brothers from back then. I'm not sure who took it, Yuji told me he found it laying somewhere... but it makes me happy to have it."
You felt soft at his words, you knew Choso didn't have much left of his brothers after they passed, and you could understand how even a single memento of them could help ease the grief. You returned his smile. "Really? That's nice. It's like a family picture of your own."
"Yes, I've grown fond of it despite the little time I've had it." Choso hesitated for a second, before speaking in a soft tone, "Do you... want to see it?"
You gave him a nod, happy that he was sharing things that were important to him with you. Not only that, but the idea of seeing a picture of a Choso you didn't get to meet, surrounded by those he adored and called family, was heartwarming to you. So you reached for it when he extended it to you, full of expectation and buzzing with a quiet excitement.
That is, until you got a proper look at it.
"Oh," You blurted out the moment your eyes locked on the picture, as you're faced not with a scene of kids playing, or adorable babies getting to know the world... but what looks like three fetuses preserved mid-develoment.
Ah... of course. How dumb were you as to forget that your boyfriend's not human? or at least not fully. It's your bad for expecting normal childhood memories from a half-curse who you somehow forgot had an unconventional birth— as it that wasn't the whole thing that made him different.
Choso looked at you expectantly, tilting his head as he noticed your poorly hidden shock. "Are you okay?"
"No- I mean, yes!" You stammered, getting out of your thoughts. "It's just that I was expecting to see you all in a different... life stage."
Choso blinked, "Oh, I don't have any physical memories of the time we incarnated. It wasn't a priority at the moment."
"Yes, I imagine. But this is fine, you all look... silly?" You said the first thing that came to mind, quickly regretting the phrasing. You just couldn't thing of a better thing to comment, not even human babies look cute while in the womb! You mentally berated yourself, but Choso still looked at you seriously.
"is that... a good thing?" He asked, and you quickly nodded.
"Yes! Like the puppies people post in the internet. It's adorable." You looked frantically at the picture, trying to find something useful to comment. "This picture should be about Eso, Kechizu and you, right? Which one are you?"
Choso softened as you showed you remembered their names, still oblivious to how awkward you felt moments ago. He peered over your shoulder to look at the image, pointing at one of the containers it showed. "This one."
Your lips curved up as you associated what you saw with the Choso you know, unable to believe the small creature you were seeing was once the man now sitting next to you. You were genuinely starting to think it was cute, despite not knowing how to react at first.
"You're the one with the big eyes, huh?" You laugh, "You looked like you'd seen things."
Choso glanced at you like he didn't know if he should be offended or flattered, but ultimately your laugh kept him gentle. "An older brother's duty is to stand ahead of his siblings and protect them."
"Of course. Were you conscious while in that state, though...?" You asked, and Choso nodded.
"I was. There wasn't much to do there compared to now, though. The most I could do was look around, work on my technique and look out for my brothers."
"Even then?" You asked softly.
"Always," He stated firmly.
Your gaze softened at his answer, looking back at the image. You were sure that being stuck in a tube for 150 years was likely an uncomfortable experience, specially if you were concious through it all. Even so, Choso always seemed to look past his own pain and discomfort, all to make the life of those he loved better. When you turned to look at him, your eyes were filled with affection.
"You're an amazing big brother, Choso. Maybe the best."
Choso's eyes widened slightly, before he humbly shook his head. "I'm just doing what I'm supposed to."

Choso turned sheepish at your words, not really wanting to argue against that point. He rested his chin on your shoulder, hair tickling your face, before he mustered a reply. "If that's how they see me... Then that's just another reason for me to continue being their reliable older brother."
You felt warm at his response, knowing it'd be the closest he'd get to accepting your compliment. You nudged your head against his, your smile ever present. "You're already doing great."
Choso gave you a faint nod, overjoyed in the inside by your kind words. He remained silent for a moment, before his gaze found yours. "I like the concept."
You looked at him in confusion, and he tilted his head towards the picture. "Preserving memories this way... I didn't understand why humans did it at first, but now I see the power it holds. Makes you feel like you're living the moment again."
"It does," You conceded in a gentle tone, "Do you want us to take pictures? We could take some together, or with Yuji and the others. The one's you like best? We could frame them and keep them physically."
Choso's eyes widened slightly, the idea making his heart feel strangely fuzzy. He was quick to accept, smiling at the thought. "That sounds nice."
"Then let's start now." Before he could react, you had already taken out your phone and snapped a selfie of you two. Choso looked around confusedly, before you showed him your phone.
"I blinked..." He complained once he saw himself on the screen, and you chuckled.
"Let's take another, then."
Choso was prepared this time, even smiled a little. You were so happy with the result that you made it your homescreen, while Choso posted the picture in all the social media you had taught him how to use (which wasn't a huge amount, but still). You've caught him asking for your phone on your outings to snap photos at dogs, insects and even an unaware Yuji. It was safe to say that the hobbie had quickly grown on him.
It wasn't long before Choso asked for the picture that started it all to be framed, right like his brothers deserved.
And while you looked at him pick the perfect spot to place it, you knew this was just the start of all kinds of memories you'd be creating together.
♡ notes: first jjk work and it's my beloved choso, inspired by this pin ! expect a LOT of choso works from me i love him sm. also i spent more time doing the banner than actually writing it's insane. first i edited a manga panel but didn't use it since i couldn't resize it in any site without losing quality, and then i just wasn't satisfied with other ideas until i settled with this. being a perfectionist is curse ! (also if anyone knows the artist of the pics i used please tell me, I searched everywhere but couldn't find them :c) anywayy, stay tuned for more choso stuff, he deserves the love <3
awe sorry about that anon! i def thought about including him, he was in the list. but i couldn't come up with an idea, and i didn't know how to write him either. even though i've read many fics of him, my mind was completely blank!
it's also the fact that the post was already long, and he was the only planned character that i hadn't even started, so i left it like that. i might make an one-shot for him once i finally get inspiration, and link it to the series somehow. but yeah i was also dissapointed that i couldn't make him for the pt.2 😔
