When all my favorite manga are either ending, have gone on hiatus due to pandemics or its current arc is just depressing
The pain train never ends
Mochizuki planning out party scenes in her stories like
Basically every letter the queen sends to Ciel:
My dear boy🥺 how are you✨♥️ what are you doing you adorable bumpkin boo🥰 you are the sweetest boy in all of England 💖 anyways there's a murderous cult in Sussex and they're very dangerous even the military cannot enter their area so make sure to find out all about their victims and make sure that no one figures out its you also i won't provide with all the information about this case because privacy so yeah do the job or else i will pose a threat to your job and life.
Okay uwu bye :)
Aggretsuko Season 1: Young adults are forced to work in jobs they despise because capitalism ensures they feel personally responsible in generating profit for their superiors
Aggretsuko Season 2: Young women feel pressured both by their family to find love and “provide” children, and by the idea that they must sacrifice their personal dreams to support their partners
Aggretsuko Season 3: Youth are turning to virtual relationships and entertainment because they find real-life experiences too overwhelming, and companies are exploiting this basic human need for companionship
Me:
Manga Recommendation: Vanitas no Carte
Hello fellow manga fans! I’m here to recommend a new manga series for you all in the hopes of increasing our tiny but lovely fandom.
What is Vanitas no Carte?
Vanitas no Carte, also known as The Case Study of Vanitas, is a steampunk fantasy manga series written and drawn by Jun Mochizuki. It takes place in AU 19th century France, is character-driven but with an interesting plot, and has vampires, action, and amazing character drama going for it. As of this post’s creation there are four volumes released, with chapters being released monthly.
What is the story about?
The story follows Noe, a vampire sent to Paris by his teacher to investigate The Book of Vanitas; a cursed book created by a vengeful vampire that warps the true names of vampires, making them lose their sanity. However, Noe finds the book in possession of a human calling himself Vanitas, who identifies as a ‘vampire doctor’ and uses the book to cure vampires that have been affected by the Curse of Vanitas. Noe gets dragged into working with Vanitas, and they work together to combat the challenges that come with rescuing the violent curse-bearers.
A Bit About the Main Characters
Vanitas - Naming himself after the vampire who created The Book of Vanitas, he’s eccentric, moody, and shady. He tries to be all suave and manipulative and has something of a success rate but he spends an equal amount of time being freaked out and angry??? He has a mysterious tragic backstory and a bajillion issues, and has absolutely priceless reactions to just about everything. He’s a disaster basically.
Noe - Actual ray of sunshine. He’s an outspoken, sheltered country bumpkin who has oodles of curiosity about everything. He’s both naive and sweet, and introspective and kick-butt, and he doesn’t put up with any of Vanitas’s crap which is honestly always beautiful to watch.
There’s a lot of other awesome characters, but these two and their slowburn friendship are definitely the central focus of the story.
Other Things It Has Going For It
-The art is stellar! Every panel is a DELIGHT
- A fresh take on vampire lore
- Awesome aesthetic (steampunk France is beautiful okay??? And the outfits??? Are to die for??? AND EVERYONE IS BEAUTIFUL OK)
- The plot is more complicated than it sounds and there is already so much to analyze and pick apart its great
- Prime shipping material
- Sadness and pain
- Golden comedic moments
- Philosophy and character development stuff abound
So please consider reading it! You can buy the chapters individually online through Amazon or Kobo amongst other sources, or you can get links to read online from @fyeahvanitasnocarte! Tagging fandoms I think might be interested.
Recap post about the blue sect arc: what we need answers for
This is just in case we actually start to get to the bottom of this arc in this month’s upcoming chapter. Here’s a list starting with ch108, but feel free to add in case you think I possibly forgot something!
Ch108: what is that weird liquid that UT gave to the twin and why did he say “it’s still too early for you to wake up”?
Ch109/110: is there a reason, besides plot convenience, that the Midford parents didn’t seem to try and get Lizzie back? what about Edward’s school attendance at Weston for his last year?
ch110/111: Bravat’s weird eyes? Is he supernatural or human?
About Bravat himself: is he a charlatan, or is he a scientist maybe? Also did he really see through Seb’s disguise or was this all pretending too?
ch112: how many times did Lizzie give some of her blood to Lord Canopus?
ch113: what did Lizzie mean when she was crying about “not being able to save the twin”? Save him from who or what?
ch114/ch117: is it just me or does Sieglinde’s lab, given to her by Victoria, resemble the blue sect’s? Proof that both were built by supernatural beings maybe, but is there a bigger link…?
ch114/119: about blood transfusions => who mastered the procedure? Does it serve a purpose outside the 4 or 5 star lords (like war, as Wolfram pointed out)? How does it play into making more “perfect” bizarre dolls? How come no one knows that AB (sirius) is the universal recipient type?
ch114: Othello and “50 years ago” => is this old case relevant to the current arc somehow? Or is it just related to UT’s desertion? Do Othello and UT know each other?
ch115: about the twin’s damaged arms that we can see => is it because he’s dependent on blood transfusions?
ch116: is there a reason Nina was chosen by the sect to make all the outfits? Could it be because “the Hopkins tailors have outfitted generations of the Phantomhive family” (and “it’s all for the blue star” who’s the twin)?
ch117: why are the rooms for the 4 or 5 star lords so different? Is it supposed to remind them of their previous environment/social condition when they were still alive?
ch119: Any chance that us finding out about Wolfram having the B blood type (same as Lizzie) will be relevant later? To transfuse Lizzie maybe?
still ch119: was Othello speaking about UT when he said “that one didn’t know much about this stuff… who else is there?”? If so, then can another supernatural being be involved with the sect?
ch123: we found out that Lord Sirius is real!Ciel, but what about the other star lords’ identity? Are they possibly characters we already met (and who died)?
ch124: how/when did Bravat/the blue sect came to know and dialyze those old lords from the Parliament?
About the blue sect: any possible link to the Aurora society or even the mysterious Osiris company?
Also if UT is really the only mastermind behind this, then why the change of method between the Weston arc and now, when he called Agares a masterpiece?
ch125: was Frances’ angry reaction parallelling Agni’s about Ed and Soma being indirectly involved with murders?
ch125: what’s the point of making a second music hall in Bath? Or is it just a false lead, because it was just the place where Bravat would dialyze the old lords?
ch125: what did Othello mean when he told Ciel that he had “a familiar face”?
ch126: was the twin wearing an eyepatch when he came to attack Agni and Soma? If no, did Soma just fail to notice the difference with our!Ciel?
ch127: who killed Agni? Is it Polaris, the “blue star’s butler”, or is it someone else? Also is he human or a supernatural being, since Agni commented that his killer was really strong?
Also also is it random that Agni’s first wounds seem to match Tanaka’s wounds from 4 years ago?
ch128: what was the purpose of the attack on Soma and Agni? Leaving our!Ciel a message (”who stole the candy from my tummy”)? Or simply the twin being jealous (since Soma does call himself Ciel’s “big brother”)? Something else related to the curry arc maybe, since Ciel made sure Scotland Yard wouldn’t get to Agni?
ch129: Did Ciel leave the pieces of the photo with Soma when they took him to Sieglinde? Will Sieglinde manage to convince Soma that our!Ciel is not the one who attacked him (since he’s the one who brought Soma + especially since she saw our!Ciel has the contract’s seal in his right eye)?
ch129: what’s Lizzie’s role in this arc? Is she really on the twin’s side? What does Paula know about the situation (mainly does she know about the twin and can she tell Ed)? Also did Lizzie go to the Phantomhive manor too?
ch129: between the dead lords from the Parliament in ch125 and Violet probably giving the name “Ciel Phantomhive” for the blue star’s identity to Scotland Yard, will our!Ciel get in big troubles and accused of all that Bravat did in this arc?
ch129: since the servants initially thought the twin was our!Ciel, did they notice the possible absence of Sebastian by his side? Or do we have a doppelgänger for Seb too?
ch130: how comes Tanaka didn’t appear very surprised about the twin’s return? Could he have known in advance? But if so, who told him and why? (additional question: was it foreshadowed in ch120?)
Also, how and when did Tanaka find out about our!Ciel taking his brother’s identity? Could this be related to him knowing the twin was coming back?
ch134: what did Tanaka mean by
+ how did he survive his injuries and the fire?
ch137: who’s this dude?
ch140: we still need UT to explain how he did all of the following:
Done~~
