Violet Liddell: Spring Equinox Gala
queenamongstshades:
“Bloody hell!” It’s not often that she gets a scream from someone, but she’ll assume that’s protocol when a strange woman shows up in the middle of a room. Still, Caoimhe’s own hand splays over her chest as if her heart is pounding. Hasn’t exactly done that in a few centuries… call it muscle memory. “I mean – I – very sorry, so sorry, this was a massive mistake.” Her hands raise to show her own innocence, and Caoimhe takes a few steps back to widen the space between her and this clearly frightened girl. “Oh, you poor thing. I hardly meant to frighten you like that. Again: so sorry.” She grimaces at the girl’s small voice, taking another step back. Harder to hear her that way, but she doesn’t want to threaten the poor thing any further. “Lackadaisy. Lovely name.” No idea what it means, but the girl could’ve said ‘mud’ and Caoimhe would probably have granted her a compliment. Guilt will do that. “I see. Ah… is this…” She glances around, then nods. “You serve drinks! Lovely. That’s wonderful. It’s… a wonderful business, from the looks of it. I hate to have barged in.”
Violet was still on edge. She had no idea how to respond, because this was new to her. Despite knowing that this person wasn’t in connection who she had run from, Violet still couldn’t shake the fear she always felt when uncertainty was in front of her. “ It’s okay. It’s okay. “ Violet replied more to herself than anything. She had to get her nerves together if she was going to survive in this town. She had her twin and she had run into an old acquaintance, so it was clear she wasn’t on her own, but the stress of everything did feel alienating. “It’s my fault. I get nervous very easy. It’s a long story. I’m sorry for screaming. I’m sure you didn’t want that” Violet added, still sounding apologetic despite the shakiness to her words. “ I think it means carelessly lazy, which is strange but I do like the name too. “ She nodded looking around. “ Yes! Um- could I get you anything before you leave? “ She added moving from the spot she had been behind the empty table. “It’s okay really. Like I said it’s me who was acting weird about it”

She doesn’t know much – Caoimhe will be the first to admit to that. What she does know: that house. Faolan’s, technically, though she supposes she should get used to calling it theirs. An apartment, he’d informed her, but it simply feels like home. A shared space above that smithy of his. She’s also beginning to know the tell-tale signs of incorporeality – that’s what that kind witch had called this, anyway. This weakened feeling, an exhaustion that comes with haste and doesn’t quite let up, making her figure flicker and fade before her own eyes. Unlike during those in-between years, nowadays Caoimhe can keep herself on this side of the veil. The more difficult part seems to be staying where she wants to be. Which is how she lands in the midst of a room that is not at all part of the home she’d expecting to find her footing in. The shade winces as something topples over, and she’s reaching to right it when she spots her company looking as surprised as she is. “Oh! Well.” She’s definitely not in the right place, then. “Seems I’ve made right bags of this. Hm.” Faolan will probably be having a bloody fit. Fantastic. “Apologies for entering like this. Would you mind telling me how far I am from the smithy? Suppose it’d be good to know precisely how awful I am at navigating.”
Violet was more often than not on edge. She had narrowly escaped death and spent years of being treated like she was crazy, it made her a raw nerve that was often on the verge of running and hiding. It was probably the wrong combination of thing’s to ever make her the right person to surprise. Even though she felt self in Lackadaisy cleaning the tables. It was a slow day and she was the only one there out front and felt a strange calmness fall over here. Maybe Lethe was a good option for her, until someone appeared out of nowhere and the witch dropped the towel she was holding and screamed. “ Oh Gods, “ She replied pressing a hand to her heart. She jumped back before looking at the woman with a gaze trying to make sure she wasn’t a threat. Violet was not typically the type to defend herself in a threat, she usually hid behind her brother Mike. However the longer she stood there the more she realized the woman wasn’t a threat. “ You’re at Lackadaisy. “ Violet replied in a small voice only to realize how she wasn’t fully over the shock. “ It’s on the main street. If you go out this way it’s easy to navigate your way around”
silasmaric:
Silas gave a short bark of a laugh. “Believe it or not, I do not.” She probably had no idea just how much he was not the knight in shining armor type. He still found himself wishing that Bex could have heard that; she would have been amused by it.
He stopped and looked at her, the corner of his mouth twitching into a small smile. “Cute, huh?” He remembered, suddenly, what had been so interesting about this girl. It was the fact that she seemed so innocent, but she had clearly been through the mill. She was hunted and haunted and he was certain she had secrets, but she had a light amongst all of the darkness. It was a mystery to him how that was even possible. “I really don’t give a shit,” he told her bluntly with a shrug and a smile. “But it’s just you and it’s just while I finish closing up so how bad can it be?” He watched her for a moment, almost studying her. “I came with my sister. Needed a change of scenery.” It was an oversimplification in multiple ways but he wasn’t one to tell her everything after just running into her again. Sure they had spent a night together that had been enjoyable in such a way that even the word enjoyable felt like he was cheating the experience, but trust wasn’t an easy thing for Silas to give after so many years.
“Oh? I guess that’s a good thing too” Violet replied realizing that maybe helping people out of life or death situations wasn’t something he did all the time. It gave her some sort of false hope that perhaps she was special and not the kind of special that had labeled her a freak back home.
Soon Violet had realized that she had let slip that she was still attracted to the former one night stand standing in front of her. “I did say that didn’t I?” Violet replied biting her bottom lip. There was no way to back out of this one and protect herself with a wall. Honesty was the best policy in this case, “ Yeah you know. In that dangerous cute way. ‘ She added feeling like her cheeks were probably turning red now. She was able to cover her expression though once his response about his work came out. Violet chuckled turning her head at his comment. “ Okay that’s fair. I mean lately not so bad. I’ve been able to keep a lock on any sort of me related catastrophes. “It was true though, if it weren't for the new scenery, escaping a judgmental small town and her brother, Violet might not have her own powers and emotions under control. “ I didn’t know you had a sister. I cam here with my twin brother. Great minds must think alike. “
silasmaric:
Silas felt half of his mouth twitch into a minute smile of amusement. “Yeah, I do.” He slid his hands into the pockets, thumbs hooked on the outsides still. “It was pretty memorable,” he added honestly, unsure of how often a girl had dragged him home for the reason of blending in. His eyes traced the movement of her biting her lip unconsciously.
“Don’t worry about it. It was hardly a problem or like it didn’t work out for me,” he teased her lightly, eyes glinting mischievously. “If you want to come inside, I could give you a drink while I close up.” Probably against the rules but he had never had much regard for the rules. “Glad to see you survived by the way,” he told her, opening the back door and nodding his head for her to go on inside if she wanted to.
The longer Violet stood there the more she realized that maybe she had been wrong about how he may have viewed her. She assumed their brief interaction once upon a time was just that. Brief. Unmemorable. However she had been completely wrong and as a result, the witch felt her cheeks get warm and she was certain she was getting red at his comment. “ Oh. Do you not get girls running to you for safety often?” She asked, completely unaware of his own dubious history.
“ Well I mean, it all could have been some ruse to come home with you. It wasn’t but I wouldn't’ put it past someone to pull that stunt to hook up with someone” She rambled before slipping out that he still had an effect on her. “ You know, cause you’re cute” Violet let slip out before biting at her bottom lip again, realizing she shouldn’t have done that. She had to be more aloof when it came to people and put that wall back up that she had built when she was back home and trying to defend her sanity to other people. “Wouldn’t you get in trouble for after hours bar-tending?” She asked, finally able to keep her cool, but not exactly saying no to him. “ Yeah, I’m still here. Not for their lack of trying though” She replied trying not play off how serious the situation had been. Her and Mike had nearly lost their lives but where here and safe in Lethe, but it had been an ordeal. “ What brings you here?
silasmaric:
Silas carried the trash from the club into the alley and tossed it into the dumpster with ease. He paused as he recognized the sound of footsteps and turned slowly, his eyes falling on a young woman who looked vaguely familiar, but most people did at his age. Her words were enough to let him know that she knew him from somewhere and he furrowed his brows, taking a few steps closer to her. “I don’t think I remem…” His words trailed off when he got closer when he recognized the look of someone who had seen far more than their share.
He nodded slowly. “Wait, no, that’s right. You have a brother, and I hid you during a party.” he pressed his lips together firmly in an attempt to remember, snapping his fingers slightly. “Violet,” he said finally. “Am I right?” It was hard not to be proud of himself for remembering. He had lived a long life, many lifetimes in fact, and faces had blended together. It was rare that he could remember someone within a minute or two.
Violet tried not to let it show, but she felt herself deflate when she realized he didn’t remember her. She hadn’t expected some sort of pleased expression from him, considering they had been a one night stand, but in her quest to be ignored by the general public she didn’t realize being invisible finally had it’s drawbacks. The witch ran a hand through her hair, feeling embarrassed by her errors of assumption. “No, of course not. That’s so dumb, it’s a big world. Of course I-” Violet began to ramble before instantly stopping as soon as his own statement had changed.
She had been completely wrong. He did recognize her and now her face was red. She wasn’t sure how to feel. She didn’t realize how much she had wanted him to know her till it appeared like he hadn’t, but now that Violet was mistaken she didn’t know what to do with this change. “ Yeah- that was me....You did remember? “ She replied biting at her bottom lip unsure what else to say to him now that she was in front nof him again. “ I never really thanked you enough for that night. “

Since the move to Lethe, Violet wasn’t as worried about being on her own anymore. She found herself looking over her shoulder less even though she was often still dealing with the stress from the previous ordeal. Despite all of that, she liked to walk home when she’d get off of work. Lethe was safer and for once the witch could enjoy simple things like staring at the stars and the quiet calm her life was offering at that moment. She knew to not take it for granted cause it could all unravel at any moment.
Violet had a tendency to take short cuts, just so she didn’t make her brother worry too much for taking a long time to get home, but as she turned the corner to cut through the alley behind CHURCH, Violet realized she might not be getting home early. She had only known him for one night but he had an impact on her. She just didn’t know what to do now that she had seen him again. There was no mistaking who it was and on one hand she could just turn around and walk away, but Violet was at times prone to doing the more risky answer to a problem. “ Uh- hi. “ She replied awkwardly as she shifted back and forth from foot to foot. Maybe this was a bad idea., maybe they had been a one night stand for a good reason, but Violet didn’t know how to walk away. “It’s you. Small world”

Mal shook her head, giving a small chuckle. “No, not bad at all. You’re a big help around here.” She smiled softly at the younger girl and said gently, “You’re not making any mistakes that are even notable. I make mistakes and Vik and I started this place. I’m glad you’re happy here though. You know if you ever need anything or want to talk, I’m here. I know moves can be a lot to handle but you always seem so happy and willing to help and it’s definitely noted.”
If Violet had a better poker face she would have been able to hide the relief on her face. It was that lack of calm that had partially caused her to be called crazy back home but she wasn’t there anymore. It was clear from the look of her boss that she was somewhere a lot safer. “ Thank God. I honestly don’t know if I have life skills to work anywhere else” She replied making a face. “ I’m glad they aren’t noticeable. This is honestly my first job I’ve kept beyond a week. I wasn’t exactly someone to hire in the past. “ Violet chuckled at being called happy. She hadn’t been happy growing up aside from any moment of genuine cheer she got when around her twin, but she guessed this was happy for her. She just wanted to be helpful. “ We were travelling a while, but I think this place is sort of a relief in a weird way. I like being able to relax. “

Town events weren’t particularly his thing, but every single one tended to bring some kind of hardship. It was concern and curiosity that pulled him out tonight, to see if something would happen, to see if he could help if something did.
But even in his wildest dreams, he hadn’t expected anything like this.
Now, people were everywhere and spirits were everywhere and all he could do was stare because he saw old war buddies that he hadn’t been able to save, only those of supernatural origin, and he had to force himself to remain in this present moment, memories of the war flashing through his mind.
Grey pushed his way through the crowds, looking for anyone who might be in need of help, who might need assistance as he ignored any shaded faces of those he once knew and avoided the possibility of seeing more (his mother, his uncle, Dom’s family, any of those his mother had ordered the slaughter of). Finally, he found someone on the ground and knelt down, reaching out a hand to their shoulder. “Do you need help?” he asked.
In all the times she felt like her twin bond with her brother had helped her, Violet was in a near state of panic over the fact that she could not find her brother. The town was being haunted and in some cases tormented by the ghosts of their past and while the witch was more frightened of someone who was alive and after them, she didn’t want to take her chances. The whole situation had made her stress and anxiety peak and she wanted nothing more to be invisible and hide. However she felt like this was an impossibility and started to panic. Violet’s sprint had turned nearly into a full on run as she bounded through the festival hoping to find some relief before nearly tripping and falling to the floor. She caught herself before the inevitable collision but it still hadn’t been a good look on her. “ Shit” She muttered holding her balance as she tried to get her breathing normal. Violet turned quickly to realize her behavior had caught someone attention and now he felt even more embarrassed. “Um, I’ll be fine. I just- I just need to get out of here I can’t find my brother. I can usually find him but I don’t understand what’s happening.”

Seeing the other smile, Zi returned the gesture and listened in on her response. “Mhm, tends to happen to us especially since we are different in comparison to humans. From heightened senses, to the need to feed, to loss of control…It’s inevitable. However, it’s nice that we’re in a place where it’s well…the norm.” Chuckling softly, the vampire shrugged and said, “Accidents happen, but if you had the option to really control it—then you should stick with that than using who you are as an excuse…Oh please, you don’t have to do that.” However, before she knew it, the blonde went ahead and started making her drink. “Thank you, although if you must know I do that for a living—listening to others talk their ear off.” Reaching into her purse, she took a few bills and placed it into the tip jar as a means to return the favour.
“I like feeling normal even if in this town there have been abnormal things. It’s nice to not be treated like a freak” She admitted. Violet hated how things had been back home. The town her and her twin grew up in made her feel like she was crazy. but here she was just another body. It was a relief to finally be invisible. “I can’t control it yet, but one day soon I will. I’m still adjusting. “ She added before turning back. “ Are you sure? I just really appreciate this gesture. “ She admitted. “ Oh? May I ask what you do?”

Mal flipped the open sign to closed and let out a small sigh as she stretched. “Alright, thank you, Violet, that was a good day.” Since they had first come to Lethe, almost two years ago, they had come a long way. Now they even had employees, which had seemed like a huge step at first. She looked at the younger girl with a small smile. “Hey, will you sit with me for a minute? Nothing bad, I just.. I just want to make sure you’re happy here. We’d really hate to lose you.” She slowly moved to an empty table and sat down. There was still cleaning to do, but she figured she could take care of it and let Violet go home if she needed to. “You’re a great employee and you’re really nice to have around too.”
Violet had a fairly good work day, despite dropping a cup behind the counter and breaking it. She apologized, cleaning up the mess and offered to pay for it. She knew it was her own nerves getting to her again, but she had come a long way since moving to town. “ Oh? Thank you” She replied after cleaning up one of the tables. Her nerves got to her again when she was asked to take a seat. Considering her past, the witch only expected the worst. However when she sat down, a sense of surprise hit her when it came to the topic. “ Oh God, I thought this was something bad” She replied giving an awkward smile. “ No I’m happy here. I just get nervous in public sometimes and make mistakes, but I swear I’m happy. It’s been nice to have somewhere where I can be useful”
zinaida-slora:
The vampire entered Lackadaisy Cafe and decided to sit by the countertops as she didn’t plan on staying long. It was a quick stop and go for her usual hot drink on this winter’s day. Watching the waitress return, Zi listened and nodded in understanding. “It comes with the territory. You’ll have your good days and bad, especially since you work in a demanding environment. But yes, that’s one way of thinking of it. It could be worse.” Sliding the menu over, she then made up her mind with her order. “Can I also have a hot chocolate with extra marshmallows to go?”
It wasn't easy for Violet to let her guard down. After years of being scared it was impossible to fully let go of things. However, kind and rational words from people always seemed to calm her down enough to function better in public. The witch gave her a smile, seeming grateful that she wasn’t alone in her thoughts. “ Yeah, I typically crash and burn when I work in public setting’s but overall it’s been okay. I don’t feel as alienated around here. I could completely destroy this place on accident, but I don’t think Mallory and Vik would have appreciated it. “ Violet added making a face. “ Absolutely. It’s on me, considering you’re letting me talk your ear off right now” She smiled
Location: Lackadaisy Cafe Date: December 4, 2020 Time: 3:30 Afternoon
Violet knew what she was doing, but the fact that she wasn’t having to look over her shoulder every two seconds in fear that seemed to mess her up today. She was normally filled with stress every waking moment, so the lack of stress in turn was stressing her out. The witch let out a sigh, knowing she needed to work on that better, considering everyone in town so far seemed really kind to her. No one had any preexisting judgment because her fathers words hadn’t traveled that far to this coast. She was just Violet Liddell, the waitress who gave two people the wrong orders today. She headed back to the counter and let out a sigh. She had to take any victory she could. At least it wasn’t three wrong orders. “I mean, it’s not great to mess up two orders today, but it really could be worse. I think there’s about thirty five things that could be way worse than that” She chuckled, knowing she would always be looking over her shoulder regardless of how safe a town seemed, but found some relief in being able to make a joke.
