Content : it’s very common for best friends to be lovers but is this the case here?
Jaafar Jackson x Reader
Previous Part
The first two weeks, Jaafar convinced himself it was temporary.
You were both stubborn and emotional
He told himself you just needed space.
Then your name slowly disappeared from everything.
No random Instagram stories. No reposts. No dumb little tweets at three in the morning. No pictures from dinners with friends. No appearances in anybody else’s posts either.
At first he only noticed because he was looking for you, then other people started noticing too.
“You talked to Y/N lately?” one of your mutual friends asked casually one night.
Jaafar tried to sound normal.
“Nah. Why?”
“She’s been weird.”
One of the girls joined the conversation, “yeah, she bailed on girls’ night two times, she never misses them.”
Paris added a detail while chewing on her fries,“I saw her a week ago with her new boyfriend at this club, I wasn’t able to talk to her because of him.”
Boyfriend.
The word alone made something bitter settle in his chest.
Because of course you moved on.
Why wouldn’t you?
He was the one who told you confessing his feelings was a mistake.
He had replayed that night so many times he practically knew every second by memory now.
The sound of your car door. The look on your face. The way you never turned around when he sped off.
God, he hated himself for that part most.
Trying to hurt you back because his ego got bruised.
By week three, he had typed your name into his messages more times than he could count.
You okay?
Delete.
Can we talk?
Delete.
I’m sorry.
Delete.
Every draft felt selfish.
Like reopening something he was the one who destroyed.
So he stayed quiet and the silence between you grew into something ugly.
~A month has passed~
It was 3:09 a.m. when his phone rang.
Jaafar had been half asleep on the couch, TV still flickering low in the background, when your name lit up his screen.
For a second he genuinely thought he was dreaming.
He stared at it too long before finally answering.
“Hello?”
Shaky breathing.
His entire body went rigid instantly.
“Y/N?”
Your voice finally came out small, “Can you pick me up?”
Every nerve in his body lit up.
“Where are you?”
You gave him an address he didn’t recognize.
He was already grabbing his keys before you even finished speaking.
“What happened?”
“I don’t wanna stay here.”
That was all it took.
“Stay on the phone with me.”
“No— it’s okay.”
“It’s not okay,” he snapped immediately, panic slipping through before he could control it. Softer this time, “Please. Stay on the phone.”
You went quiet again but didn’t hang up.
And that scared him more.
The drive felt endless.
Every worst-case scenario possible kept flashing through his head.
Why were you whispering?
Why did you sound exhausted?
Are you at Adam’s house?
By the time he pulled up outside the apartment complex, his heart was beating so hard it physically hurt.
Then he saw you.
And his entire world collapsed.
You were sitting on the curb outside the building in an oversized black hoodie, knees pulled slightly to your chest while you gripped your phone tightly in one hand. The sleeves covered most of your fingers as you kept wiping at your tears like you were frustrated they wouldn’t stop falling.
You looked terrified.
Jaafar stopped breathing.Actually stopped.
Something hot and violent exploded in his chest so fast it almost made him dizzy.
He parked so badly he barely remembered turning the engine off before running out.
“Y/N.”
Your head lifted immediately at the sound of his voice.
And the second you saw him, your entire face changed.
Not relief exactly, like your body had finally stopped holding itself together.
Jaafar reached you in seconds.
“What the fuck happened?” he asked, voice rougher than he intended.
You shook your head quickly.
“Can we just go before he wakes up and realizes I am not here?”
His eyes dropped to your wrist.
Finger-shaped bruise.
His stomach turned so violently he thought he might actually throw up.
“Did he do that to you?”
You looked away.
That was enough answer.
Jaafar felt rage crawl up his spine so fast his vision blurred for a second.
“Which floor is his apartment ?”
“Jaafar.”
“Which floor ?!?” he repeated harsher.
You grabbed his wrist immediately.
And the second he felt how cold & shaky your hands were, the anger cracked.
His eyes snapped back to your face properly then and for the first time he noticed the split skin near your lip.
Everything inside him dropped.
“Oh my god…”
His words came out broken and you looked embarrassed suddenly.
Like you hated that he was seeing you like this.
That nearly killed him more than the bruises.
“Don’t look at me like that,” you whispered.
His eyebrows pulled together immediately.
“Like what?”
“Like you feel bad for me.”
Jaafar looked at you for a long second like he couldn’t even process hearing that.
Then very quietly mumbled, “I feel like I’m gonna kill somebody.”
Your face crumpled a little at that.
And suddenly he understood.
This whole month and disappearing, he understood all of it now.
The realization made him feel physically sick.
You swayed slightly where you stood and his hand moved to your waist on instinct.
Like he was afraid too much pressure would hurt you.
“Hey,” he said immediately, softer now. “Hey, look at me.”
You wouldn’t, your eyes stayed fixed somewhere near his chest instead.
And then he heard it, the tiny hitch in your breathing right before someone cries.
His chest genuinely hurt.
“Y/N…”
That was it.
You broke, not loudly or dramatically , just one shattered inhale before tears finally spilled down your face like you were exhausted from holding them in.
Jaafar pulled you into him instantly without hesitation.
And the second your body collided with his, you started crying harder.
“Oh my God,” he whispered, one hand against the back of your head. “Oh my God…”
You hid your face in his chest like you were ashamed of crying.
Meanwhile Jaafar felt like he was seconds away from falling apart himself.
Because the only thing repeating in his head was:
I left her.
I left her angry.
I let her walk away.
I let her think she was alone.
And now someone else had hurt you in ways he couldn’t even fix.
Jaafar got you into the passenger seat carefully, like even the smallest movement might hurt you.
You kept apologizing for things that didn’t need apologies.
“For calling so late.”
“Sorry.”
“I know you were sleeping.”
Every single one made his chest tighten harder.
“Stop saying sorry,” he muttered quietly as he pulled your seatbelt across you.
Your hands flinched away from him the second his hand brushed near your wrist.
Tiny movement but Jaafar noticed.
His hand paused for half a second before he finished clicking the seatbelt into place.
You immediately pulled your sleeve lower over the bruise like you hadn’t even realized you did it.
The car went quiet.
Jaafar leaned back into his seat slowly, eyes on the road ahead now, but his jaw had tightened.
“You don’t have to do that with me,” he said after a moment, voice low.
You frowned slightly. “Do what?”
He finally looked over at you then.
“Flinch.”
Your eyes flickered toward him for half a second, and it felt like safety had become something you had to measure now.
That realization nearly made him sick.
He started driving without asking where you wanted to go.
Your apartment was obviously not an option.
And he knew there was no way in hell he was leaving you alone tonight.
The city was quiet at this hour.
Streetlights flashing across your face every few seconds.
Jaafar kept glancing at you every red light like he was checking you were still there.
You sat curled slightly toward the window, arms wrapped around yourself again.
Too quiet that scared him too.
“You need a hospital?” he asked finally.
Immediate panic crossed your face.
“No.”
“Y/N—”
“I said no.”
Your voice cracked halfway through it.
He tightened his jaw but nodded once.
But he mentally noted every bruise he could see anyway.
When the car stopped at another red light, he looked over again.
Your lower lip was worse up close.
Jaafar gripped the steering wheel harder.
“You were gonna stay with him tonight?” he asked suddenly.
You went still.
“No.”
“You called me before or after you left?”
Silence. “During.”
His head turned sharply.
“What?”
You stared down at your hands.
“He took my phone earlier.” Your voice sounded distant now. “I waited until he fell asleep.”
Jaafar felt actual rage pulse through him.
“He put his hands on you and took your phone?”
You didn’t answer immediately.
Your fingers twisted together in your lap instead.
Jaafar’s stomach tightened.
“What happened?”
The city lights moved across your face while you stared down at your hands like you hated even talking about it.
“I told him I didn’t want to.”
Jaafar’s grip on the steering wheel tightened instantly.
Your voice sounded far away now.
“He got annoyed.”
A pause.
“Then angry.”
Jaafar didn’t say a word.
“I tried to leave it alone at first,” you continued softly. “But he kept pushing and I said I wasn’t ready and—”
Your throat tightened slightly.
“And when I tried to move away from the kiss he grabbed my wrist.”
Something dangerous flashed across Jaafar’s face.
“He said I was embarrassing him.”
You laughed once weakly like you still couldn’t believe it yourself.
“And I pushed him because he wouldn’t let go.”
The car went completely silent.
“And then it just…”
You swallowed hard.
“…got aggressive.”
Jaafar saw red.
“I told him I wanted to end things,” you said quietly. “He took my phone after that and went to sleep with it so I couldn’t call anyone or leave.”
Jaafar’s grip on the steering wheel tightened instantly.
You kept your eyes down. “I just waited until he fell asleep and took it back while I was leaving.”
A small laugh left you then, nervous more than anything. “So… technically I escaped.”
The sound hit him wrong.
His jaw locked hard enough to hurt as he stared ahead at the road, saying nothing for a second.
Because all he could picture was you stuck there trying to get out while some guy decided he had the right to stop you.
His fingers flexed tighter around the wheel.
“Jaafar…”
“I’m okay,” he lied immediately.
But his voice sounded terrifyingly calm now.
And somehow that was worse.
The light turned green.
The car moved again.
After a minute, your voice came out barely audible.
“I didn’t know who else to call.”
That almost destroyed him.
Because there was no accusation in it.
And God, after the way things ended between you two… the fact you still called him?
Jaafar swallowed hard.
“You never have to wonder if you can call me.”
You looked at him then.
Really looked at him for the first time tonight.
His eyes stayed on the road but his expression had softened completely now.
The anger was still there underneath it, simmering violently, but around you he handled it carefully.
Like he was terrified of making this worse.
Your voice came out fragile.
“I thought you hated me.”
His head snapped toward you so fast it startled you.
“Hated you?”
You blinked at him silently.
Jaafar looked genuinely horrified.
“Y/N, I hated myself.”
The words filled the car heavily.
“I said something cruel because my ego got hurt and then I doubled down and drove away like an asshole.” His grip tightened on the wheel again. “I’ve regretted it every single day since.”
You stared at him quietly.
The sincerity in his voice hurt worse somehow.
“I kept thinking you moved on,” he admitted. “And I told myself I should leave you alone because maybe that’s what you wanted.”
You laughed softly then. But it sounded tired and broken.
“That’s funny.”
His eyebrows pulled together.
“What?”
“I spent the whole month thinking you didn’t care enough to come after me.”
Because he had wanted to. God, he almost did a hundred times.
But pride and fear kept winning.
And now sitting beside you, bruised, exhausted, shrinking into yourself, he realized how badly he’d misread everything.
He parked outside his place a few minutes later.
You looked confused immediately.
“Jaafar—”
“You’re staying with me tonight.”
“I can’t.”
“You can.”
Your shoulders tensed.
“I don’t want to be a problem.”
His expression changed instantly at that, like the sentence genuinely offended him.
“You think this,” he gestured toward you helplessly, “is a problem to me?”
You looked away again.
That answer alone told him enough.
Somewhere along the line, somebody had made you start apologizing for existing.
Jaafar turned fully toward you then.
“Look at me.”
Slowly, you did.
And his chest nearly caved in again because your eyes looked terrified of being too much.
He spoke carefully now.
“You could call me at four in the morning from the middle of nowhere and I’d still come get you.” His voice lowered. “You understand me?”
Your eyes immediately filled again.
Jaafar exhaled shakily through his nose the second he saw it.
“Don’t cry,” he whispered instinctively.
That made one tear slip down your face anyway.
“Sorry—”
“There you go apologizing again.”
Despite everything, the corner of his mouth twitched faintly.
And somehow that tiny expression — soft and familiar and him — almost hurt more than the kindness.
Because it felt like finally breathing after a month underwater.
Jaafar reached over slowly, giving you enough time to pull away if you wanted.
You didn’t.
His thumb brushed carefully beneath your eye, wiping the tear away.
Then his gaze dropped briefly to your split lower lip.
His entire face hardened again.
“Did he ever do that before tonight?”
Your silence answered too quickly.
Jaafar closed his eyes for one second.
Just one.
Like he was trying to physically control himself.
When he opened them again, his voice was terrifyingly calm.
“I am gonna kill him.”
You froze immediately.
“No.”
Jaafar stared at you like he thought he misheard.
“Y/N—”
“No.” Your voice came out firmer this time despite how tired you sounded. “Please.”
His jaw tightened instantly.
“That guy put his hands on you.”
“I know.”
“So why are you protecting him?”
“I’m not protecting him,” you snapped quietly, exhaustion cracking through the words. “I’m protecting myself.”
That made him pause.
You looked down at your hands.
“If my family finds out…” You swallowed hard. “It becomes a thing. Everyone gets involved. Questions, opinions, pity— I can’t do that right now.”
Jaafar stayed silent.
“And if my friends know,” you continued more quietly, “then everybody knows eventually.”
Your eyes flickered toward him finally.
“I want it to look like a normal break up, please don’t tell anyone. Not my family. Not mutual friends. Nobody.”
He looked torn apart by the request.
Because every instinct in him wanted to expose the guy publicly.
Wanted someone to answer for what happened to you.
But you were sitting here asking for control over at least one thing.
And he understood that.
After a long silence, he nodded once.
“Okay.”
You looked surprised by how quickly he agreed.
Jaafar leaned back against the seat with a slow exhale through his nose.
“But if he ever comes near you again,” he said quietly, dangerously calm, “I’m not promising I’ll stay reasonable.”
His apartment felt different tonight.
Softer somehow.
Or maybe it was just because you were here again after a month of silence.
Jaafar handed you one of his hoodies while avoiding looking too directly at the bruises on your wrist or lips.
“It’s clean,” he muttered.
You nodded softly and disappeared into the bathroom.
The second the door closed, Jaafar dragged both hands down his face.
Then he stood there in the middle of the kitchen staring at nothing.
Because now that the panic had settled slightly, guilt was hitting him in waves.
You had been disappearing right in front of everyone and he hadn’t pushed harder.
He kept thinking about your voice on the phone.
Something in his chest twisted painfully.
The shower turned on in the other room.
Jaafar moved automatically after that.
He opened cabinets.
Started boiling water.
Pulled out whatever food he had.
You always liked simple comfort food after bad days.
Not fancy, just warm stuff.
Which somehow made the ache in his chest worse.
When you finally came out of the bathroom, the first thing you noticed was the smell.
You stopped in the hallway slightly confused.
Jaafar looked up from the kitchen immediately.
And for a second he genuinely forgot how to breathe.
You were drowning in his oversized dark hoodie, sleeves covering most of your hands, hair still damp from the shower.
And somehow the sight hit him so hard it physically hurt.
Not just because you looked absolutely attractive than any other woman he has ever saw without trying, but also because you looked safe.
His eyes instantly flickered toward your legs, checking for more bruises before he caught himself.
“Sorry,” he muttered quickly, looking away.
Your eyebrows pulled together faintly.
“For what?”
He shook his head.
“Nothing.”
You walked closer slowly.
“What are you making?”
“Spaghetti…” A pause, “With nuggets and fries.”
Despite everything, your face softened slightly.
“You remember.”
“Course I do.”
The answer came too fast.Too naturally.
The silence after it felt heavier than it should’ve.
So Jaafar cleared his throat and turned back toward the stove.
“You should eat come on.”
You nodded quietly and climbed onto one of the kitchen stools.
For the first time all night, things became still.
Not awkward exactly.
Just fragile.
You watched him move around the kitchen silently.
Sleeves pushed up his forearms, focused expression.
Checking on you every few seconds without making it obvious.
Like he was scared if he looked away too long you’d disappear again.
And honestly?
That almost made you cry again.
Later, you sat beside him on the couch with a blanket over your legs while Stitch, your comfort Disney movie played quietly across the screen.
You hadn’t even asked for it, Jaafar just knows.
The lamp beside the couch cast a soft golden light across the room while the TV flickered in front of you both.
Your bowl sat empty on the coffee table.
You hadn’t realized how hungry you were until the first bite.
Now warmth sat in your stomach for the first time in weeks.
The kind that makes your body unclench slowly without permission.
Jaafar noticed when you went quiet halfway through eating.
His head turned immediately.
“You okay?”
You nodded too fast.
“Mhm.”
But your eyes had gone shiny again.
And suddenly you realized why.
Because this entire night had been so gentle.
The way he kept giving you space without pulling away emotionally.
You felt safe.
Safe enough that your body didn’t know what to do with it.
You stared down at your lap quickly before the tears could fall.
Jaafar’s expression softened instantly.
“Hey.”
You shook your head immediately.
“I’m fine.”
“You’re definitely not fine.”
A tiny laugh escaped you through your nose at that.
And God, hearing you laugh again after a month nearly shattered him.
The movie kept playing quietly in the background.
Neither of you watched it anymore.
You sat curled into the couch while Jaafar sat beside you, arm stretched along the back cushions behind your head.
Always careful tonight.
Then after a long silence, he looked over at you, ad softly patted his chest.
No words, just a Come here motion , which made your heart actually hurt.
Because there was something unbearably tender about the way he did it.
You hesitated only a second before moving.
The moment you leaned into him, Jaafar wrapped his arms around you carefully like he’d been holding himself back from doing it all night.
One hand slid into your damp hair and the other settled against your back.
And the second your head rested against his chest, you heard it.
His heartbeat.
Your eyes closed instantly.
“You scared me,” he admitted quietly above your head.
The confession made your throat tighten.
“I know.”
“No,” he whispered, holding you a little tighter. “You really scared me.”
Silence settled after that.
Heavy with everything neither of you knew how to say yet.
Then you tilted your head up slightly.
Jaafar looked down at you immediately, too close.
Your breath caught softly.
His eyes flickered once to your mouth before returning to your eyes like he was trying not to.
“You should sleep,” he murmured.
But neither of you moved.
The movie played forgotten in the background.
His hand still resting warm against your back.
And suddenly the space between you felt impossible.
Jaafar’s gaze dropped again to split on ur lower lip.
His expression tightened slightly.
“You’re hurt,” he said quietly, almost like he was reminding himself not to cross a line.
But your hand moved before you could overthink it.
You touched his jaw softly.
And that completely ruined whatever self-control he had left.
The breath he exhaled actually shook.
“Y/N…”
You kissed him first, softly.
But the second your mouth touched his, Jaafar made this quiet broken whimper against you like he’d been starving for it.
His hand slid gently to the side of your face instantly.
He kissed you back slowly at first. Almost hesitant.
Like he was terrified of hurting you.
Then emotion cracked through him all at once.
Relief.Regret.Want.Fear.Love.
A whole month of missing you poured into that kiss so hard it nearly knocked the air from his lungs.
And when you melted against him instead of pulling away, Jaafar kissed you deeper with a softness that hurt more than roughness ever could.
Because there was nothing careless about it.Nothing selfish.
Just him holding your face like something precious while kissing you like he finally understood how close he came to losing you.
Jaafar pulled away only far enough to breathe.
But even then, his forehead stayed pressed against yours like he physically couldn’t make himself go farther.
Your fingers were still curled lightly against his jaw.
His hand still holding your face carefully, thumb brushing your cheek in slow absent movements.
And the look in his eyes nearly undid you.
Not lust.Just overwhelming love.
The kind that looked terrifying in its depth.
“Jaafar…”
His eyes searched your face instantly.
“You okay?” he whispered.
The fact he asked that now — after kissing you like his heart was breaking open — made your chest ache so badly you almost started crying again.
You nodded once and something in him softened completely at the sight.
His hand slid carefully into your hair again before he leaned forward and pressed the gentlest kiss imaginable against your forehead.
Then another near your temple.
“You know what killed me the most?” he murmured quietly.
Your brows pulled together slightly.
“What?”
“That you thought you were alone.” The words settled heavily between you.
Jaafar looked at you for a long second before his expression shifted into something quieter.
“You’re never alone again.”
Because he didn’t say it dramatically.
Didn’t say it like a promise people break.
He said it like something already decided inside him.
Your eyes filled immediately and he exhaled a tiny helpless laugh through his nose when he noticed.
“There you go,” he whispered affectionately with a small smile. “C’mere…”
He pulled you closer until you were practically folded into his chest again, your cheek against his heartbeat while his arms wrapped around you protectively.
Like there wasn’t a force on earth that could drag you away from him now.
The movie still played softly in the background.
But inside his apartment everything felt warm and still.
Jaafar rested his chin lightly against the top of your head and closed his eyes for a second.
Then very quietly, so soft you almost thought you imagined it, he whispered against your hair,
“There she is…”
His fingers tightened gently around you.
“My girl, mine.”
Finally Home.

It was finally your wedding day. Today, you and your fiancé were finally going to take the most important step of your lives. After three years of being engaged, you were going to say yes to being his wife. These last few months have been the most beautiful; they have also been the most stressful ones. All that you wanted was for the wedding to be the most perfect day for Jaafar and you.
You were currently in the hotel suite, waiting for the makeup artists and your bridal party to come. As you were looking through your phone, you went to the calendar app. All you wanted to do was check your schedule for the next few months.
Your stomach twisted instantly when you realized that it was late.
Your period was late.
It was late by two weeks, and you didn’t realize until now.
A wave of panic overcame your body, your fingers began shaking slightly, and your breathing turned ragged. It must be because of all the stress that the wedding planning became for you. It was stressful for you and Jaafar, but you felt more stress on your shoulders when you put your singing career on hold for your wedding, which you don’t regret at all.
The talk of having children did happen in the past, but it was agreed that it would happen when you both were a year or two into your marriage.
You heard two gentle knocks on the door. Taking a deep breath, you got up and walked to the door.
“Hi, my beautiful sister,” Genevieve Jaafar’s older sister said with a smile.
Eyes instantly teary-eyed, and began sobbing.
Her smile faded instantly.
“W-what is wrong?” she said and instantly hugged you.
“My p-period is late,” you cried.
Her eyes widened in shock.
“Are you sure?”
“Y-yes, I just checked my calendar app, and it made me realize that I’m two w-weeks late,” you sniffled.
You leaned back and shook your head in denial.
“Maybe I’m just super stressed out because of the wedding and my career.”
Genevieve grabbed your hands.
“Calm down.”
Nodding your head, you tried calming yourself down.
“Whatever happens, you know that Jaafar is going to keep loving you and the baby. Everyone in the family loves you, and we will be there to support you no matter what. You are my sister, and I will be there for you both.” She said and hugged you.
“I love you so much.” You whispered and hugged her back.
“I love you too,” she said and leaned back. “I will be back with some pregnancy tests, okay?”
You nodded your head and watched her leave the hotel room to get the tests.
__
After what felt like eternity, Genevieve came back with three exams just to make sure that all the tests were correct.
“How many minutes left do you have?” she asked while pacing around the room.
“Genevieve, I just did them all at once right now,” you said, and put the tests on the bathroom sink.
You walked to the door and opened it.
“I want you to see them. I can’t,” you said nervously and winced when you saw the timer on your phone. One more minute left until you will know if you are pregnant.
“One more minute,” she whispered. “Everything is alright, whatever happens, you are still stuck with all of us,” she said while rubbing your back softly.
All you could do was nod your head and lean your head on her shoulder.
“Fuck,” you whispered when your alarm went off.
Genevieve stopped the alarm and took a deep breath.
“Ready?” she asked, wanting to make sure that you were ready for the results.
“Yes,” you said, giving her a small smile.
She turned on all three tests and read the small screens. Eyes instantly watered at the sight of the results.
“You are pregnant!” she said, showing you all three.
“Oh my god,” you cried and wrapped your arms around your tummy. A wave of relief overcame your body; you knew that it wasn’t the great timing, but it was meant to be. Mostly on this day, your wedding day.
“You are going to be the most amazing mommy,” she said and hugged you immediately. Both of you are crying.
A tiny part of you already loved this baby more than anything and wanted to tell Jaafar.
“When are you going to tell Jaafar?” she asked.
“I don’t know when exactly, but today most definitely.”
“You tell him when you’re ready. I just know he is going to be ecstatic. Now let’s go and get you ready. We only have two hours left,” she said, and pulled you out of the bathroom to start getting ready for your wedding.
__
The ceremony was a fairytale.
It felt as if it were an eternity, but everything was perfect.
The second Jaafar saw you walking down the aisle, tears instantly formed in his eyes.
He looked so handsome. He was wearing his black and white tuxedo while staring at how beautiful you looked in your wedding dress.
As you were walking down the aisle, all you could think about was the baby that you were carrying and Jaafar. He was going to be an amazing father; neither of you was ready, but you were sure you both would figure it out.
Once you reached the altar, you began crying softly. Not able to hold back your emotions.
Jaafar cried softly, looking at you up and down.
“I’m so lucky,” he whispered shakily and leaned down to kiss your cheek.
The ceremony was beautiful.
The most important things that you remembered were Jaafar’s vows to you. The ending, mostly when he mentioned that he couldn’t wait to grow your own family, was the reassurance that you needed the most.
You remembered how his hands shook slightly while placing your custom-made ring on your finger, and his voice cracking during his vows
When you heard. “You may kiss your bride,” that was the magical moment. Both of you were now husband and wife.
All the guests erupted into cheers as Jaafar kissed you as if he had been waiting for this moment.
Which he did, and now both of you were set for life.
__
The reception was amazing.
All of the family members and the rest of the guests danced nonstop. The biggest surprise was when Jackie, Jermaine, and Marlon sang a Jackson 5 medley for you both, which was very special.
You were happy, but there would be a time when your nerves twisted inside your stomach when your husband, Jaafar, would look at you.
Throughout the reception, you wanted to pull him aside and tell him that you were pregnant. Each time you tried, something or someone would interrupt.
Having to take a breather from the reception, you went outside to the balcony of the venue. The view was beautiful; it showed the whole city of Los Angeles. Slowly, you began your breathing exercises to calm down your nerves and regulate your emotions.
“There you are.”
Your heart nearly stopped when your husband came out of nowhere.
“Hi,” you said, and turned around slowly
“Baby, what’s going on?” Jaafar said and walked up to you. Wrapping his arms around your waist. He had noticed that you didn’t have any alcohol throughout the reception, and you cried more than seven times throughout the wedding and the reception.
“I-I’m okay,” you said softly and looked down. Feeling guilt towards your lie.
He tilted his head slightly and sighed.
“Baby, tell me what’s going on,” he said, bringing his hand to your chin and making you look up at him.
Your eyes filled with tears instantly, not able to hold back your emotions.
“Hey, hey… talk to me, baby,”
You took a deep breath and reassured yourself that everything was going to be alright.
“I’m pregnant,”
Everything went silent, and Jaafar stood still for what felt like eternity.
“W-what?” he asked.
“I found out this morning. I realized that my period was very late, and Genevieve went to buy a test, but she actually brought three, and all came out positive.”
Complete silence surrounded you both.
His eyes immediately filled with tears and caressed your cheeks.
“Please tell me that you aren’t lying,” he asked.
“I’m not, babe. We are going to be parents,” you said and started crying again.
“I know it’s not the best timing for u–”
“Don’t you dare say that,”
He said, laughing softly while tears streamed down his cheeks.
“I’ve dreamt of having a family with you, baby. Most importantly, you have granted me that wish on our wedding day.”
He looked at you with admiration.
“We are going to be amazing parents, it’s never the wrong time with you, baby,” he said, pulling you into his arms.
“I love you so so much,” he said against your hair and kissed your forehead before pulling back a little.
You felt all of your nerves release, and you were able to breathe normally.
“I love you too,” you said, and kissed him softly.
He immediately reciprocated the kiss and brought a hand on top of your still flat tummy. Laughing softly and leaned back.
“I can’t wait to tell everyone, and see you become a great mom,” he said and pecked your lips.
“We will be great parents,” you said, and caressed his cheek. “Now let’s go back in, I need to go dance with Uncle Marlon.”
You said and pulled him to go back to the reception.

Today you were at the headquarters of GQ magazine. They had invited you and your fiancé, Jaafar, to be part of the infamous “GQ couples quiz.” Neither of you has done many interviews together because both of you were very private about the relationship and wanted to keep your careers separate.
Across from you, Jaafar leaned back in his assigned chair, wearing a relaxed black sweater, light-washed jeans, and his silver jewelry. You both decided to color-coordinate your outfits, so you opted for a black halter top and a jean skirt.
Carefully, you began playing with your “J” necklace. The necklace that Jaafar had gifted you a few years back for your anniversary was the first letter of his name. You would fidget with it when you got nervous or anxious.
“Are you okay, baby?” Jaafar asked when he noticed that you were fidgeting with your necklace.
“I’m a tiny bit nervous,” you whispered.
Jaafar chuckled softly and held onto your hand. “You are going to be great, baby, just think that it’s the two of us.”
“Are you both ready?” The producer said behind the camera, breaking the small comforting moment.
You smiled softly at them and nodded your head. “Yes,” feeling comfortable when Jaafar held onto your hand reassuringly.
“We are.”
The producer finally counted down.
“And… action.”
Instantly, both of you smiled toward the camera.
“Hi, I’m Jaafar.”
“And I’m Y/N.”
“We are the Jacksons and,” Jaafar said, with a wide smile, “today we’re doing the GQ Couples Quiz.”
Laughing loudly when Jaafar had introduced you both as “the Jacksons.”
“In two more weeks, we will be officially the Jacksons, but yes!” You said blushing.
Jaafar chuckled softly and nodded his head in agreement.
Five different cards were handed to both of you before the couple’s quiz.
You read the first question and smiled. Knowing that your fiancé would answer it instantly.
“Ooo, okay.” You looked at him. “Babe, what’s my go-to coffee order?”
Jaafar answered without hesitation.
“Pfft, easy, it’s a Large Iced white mocha with sweet cream foam and extra caramel drizzle.”
You gasped dramatically. “You know me so well.”
“I really do, my love.”
“What are my favorite nicknames for you?”
“Well, you have given me many names.” He chuckled.
You nodded your head. “Top five.”
“Um…Babe, amor, JJ, Daddy…”
“Jaafar!” You said, blushing, and covered your red face with the cards.
He laughed hard and smiled. Making eye contact with the camera.
“Our parents are going to watch this!” you laughed.
He winced and shut his eyes. “I completely forgot about them. I’m sorry!” he said and turned to look at you softly.
Both of you busted out laughing.
“On to the next.”
“Who is my favorite Jackson sibling?” you asked.
“Well, besides Uncle Mike, it’s Uncle Marlon.”
You nodded your head with a smile. “He truly is.”
“I remember the first time you met him; you asked him about the famous body roll during the Victory tour.” Jaafar laughed.
“That body roll is iconic! I’m so glad Uncle Marlon recreated the body roll right then and there.” You laughed. The memory of the first-time meeting all the Jacksons, you were the most excited to meet Marlon. Out of nowhere, you asked him about the body roll, and he taught you how to do the famous body roll.
“Alrighty, question number four, Jaafar.” You said teasingly, knowing that he hated it when you called him by his government name.
“Who is that?” he asked with a disgusted face.
Laughing softly, you nodded your head. “Question number four, babe.”
“Now that’s more like it.” He said and leaned back on the chair with a wide grin.
“How do you know when I’m mad at you?” you asked and looked at him with a mischievous look.
Jaafar chuckled and sat up.
“Well, you usually hit me with the Jaafar don’t!” he said and pointed at you, imitating you.
Laughing loudly, you leaned your head back, knowing that he was right.
“Or just silence, which is the worst one, honestly.” He said with a proud smile.
“I’m just a girl.” You said with a shrug and switched onto the next card.
“Last but not least, how did we meet?”
“We met seven years ago, before I started training for the Michael movie. I went to your album release party with Prince. I was his plus one, and when I finally met you in person, it was love at first sight.” He smiled.
“He legit stuttered the first time we spoke.” You laughed softly. “But at the end of the night, he did ask me for my number, and here we are now.”
“She isn’t going anywhere.” He said proudly. “Okay, my turn!”
“Mrs. soon to be Jackson, From your latest album. What are my top three favorite songs?” He spoke. “I love all of them honestly, but I like the ones that are dedicated to me.”
“Can I actually choose the top three from all of my albums?” you asked, blushing softly.
“Of course, baby.”
“The first one would have to be pov.” You said with a proud smile.
“Second would be safety net and…” you closed your eyes before saying the last song. “34+35”
Jaafar smirked and looked at that camera.
“My girl never lies.” He spoke.
Everyone in production laughed at how shy you got when you mentioned the famous “34+35” song.
“Okay, okay. Next question, please.” You laughed softly and looked at him.
“Alrighty, what is my favorite tattoo of yours?”
“Ooh, that’s complicated. I have too many.” You said and looked at your hands and arms, which were decorated with tattoos. “I would have to guess the butterfly tattoos that I got after quarantine.”
He smiled and nodded his head. “You are correct, my love.”
“Hell yeah.”
“Question three, who was interested in who first?”
“You, 100%.” You smiled.
“Pfft, I wouldn’t say that…” he sighed and looked around the room.
“Sir, you were already following me on Instagram. Not only that, but Prince also sent me a video of you singing along to one of my songs a few days before we met.” You laughed softly.
“No way he did that.” He gasped.
“Yes, he did! Why do you think I let him bring you as a plus one?”
“I will have to talk to him.” He spoke.
“He was our cupid, thank you, Prince!” you said and blew a kiss toward the camera.
“Traitor.” He said under his breath and chuckled when he heard production laugh at him.
“Next question, what would be my ideal day off?” He asked and looked at you.
“Your ideal day off would be to sleep in until ten am with me, stay at home throughout the day, rewatch our comfort shows, and cook together.” You said with a smile.
“Sounds like a dream.” He said and gave you a subtle wink.
“Last question.”
“Favorite Michael Jackson song?” he asked.
“Easy, Human Nature.” You smiled. “We always must sing it in the car. See that Gurlllllll.” You said dragging out the last part of the lyric. Both of you busted out laughing.
“I’m proud of you, baby.” He smiled and held your hand.
“Me too, babe,” you said and looked at the camera.
“Well, these were all the questions, thank you, GQ, and thank you production for being amazing today.” You said and looked at the production in the room.
“We will see you all once we become the Jacksons,” Jaafar said and left a small peck on your hand.
“Bye!” You both said with genuine smiles.
“Cut!” The producer said, and soft claps filled the room.
“Thank you, guys!” you said, getting up and fixed your jean skirt.
Jaafar got up and wrapped his arm around your waist.
“Ready to go back home, baby?” he asked and pecked your lips.
“Ready.” You said with a soft smile.
Happy that you both were going back to your safe place.

Happy reading:)
Making the choice to breakup with Jaafar was the most difficult decision that you’ve ever made, eight months ago.
The worst part was that it was through the phone.
You couldn’t do it in person because you knew that you would never do it, but you had to.
It destroyed you, and it destroyed Jaafar completely.
He couldn’t believe what you were breaking up with him out of the blue.
“I can’t do this anymore.” You said quietly, not wanting to break down right then and there on the phone.
“W-what? What are you talking about?”
You sighed softly and looked around your apartment. The hate towards you had increased more every day when the news broke out about your engagement.
She is only with him for the money.
She isn’t worth it.
How can Jaafar be with someone like her?
She isn’t enough for him.
He will get tired of her.
Trying to avoid reading the online comments was difficult; every night, you couldn’t help but break down after reading all those hurtful comments. In your mind, you started to believe that you were ruining Jaafar’s career, and it wasn’t fair. He had worked so many years to be where he is today; you didn’t deserve him.
The way that people spoke about your looks, your body, and your worth had gotten to you.
You had also received death threats, which was your breaking point. You couldn’t deal with all these negative emotions, which were now taking a toll on your day-to-day life.
Slowly, you began pushing yourself away from Jaafar, not talking to him as much as you normally did. You would make up “plans” with your friends just to avoid him.
He didn’t want to get too much into his head about your change.
All he could think about was the wedding planning that you both had started. The chosen wedding date, the wedding destination, who would be invited, all he could think about was marrying you.
This call took him completely by surprise.
“I can’t be with you anymore.” You whispered shakily.
He said nothing; all you could hear was his shaky breath.
“Did I do something?” he asked.
“N-no, I just can’t anymore.”
“Baby, what did I do?”
You broke down when he said your nickname. Covering your mouth with your hand to suppress your sobs.
“I’m sorry, please understand.”
“Baby,” he whispered.
You felt as if you couldn’t breathe anymore when you heard him begin to cry.
“W-we just started our wedding planning, what happened?”
“I’m so sorry, Jaafar.” You whispered and hung up.
After hanging up, he called you more than twenty times, until you couldn’t take it anymore and blocked his number.
__
A few weeks later, there were sleepless nights and tears. He still couldn’t accept the fact that you broke off the engagement without a warning. Jaafar still loved you and tried communicating with you in different ways, which resulted in him getting blocked.
Your absence in his life slowly started feeling permanent, and he hated it.
Katherine noticed how sad Jaafar got when she asked about you.
She heard what had happened. She was mad at the situation, but she remembered when she heard you cry on the phone to your mom about the hate comments.
Your cries were devastating; you were crying out for help.
She was disappointed that you made the decision to break the engagement, but she knew that you and Jaafar were meant to be together.
“You miss her,” Katherine said to Jaafar one afternoon at the Hayvenhurst house.
Jaafar just nodded his head.
“A lot.’
She nodded her head and held onto his hand.
“Have faith, you have to trust that she loves you a lot.” She smiled at him.
Katherine had sent invites for her 96th birthday celebration, and one of the invites arrived at your apartment.
You opened the invite with shaky hands.
Staring at it for nearly ten minutes.
Different things popped into your head.
You couldn’t go because Jaafar would be there.
But then again Katherine Jackson had invited you to her birthday celebration.
She opened the door of her home to you with open arms ever since she met you for the first time.
You could never say no to her.
__
The moment you stepped onto the Hayvenhurst house, your nerves got the best of you.
Music was playing softly in the background, kids were playing around, and friends and family filled the entire house.
Jermajesty saw you. His eyes were widening so fast that you almost turned around to leave.
“You actually came.”
Nodding your head with a small smile, you looked up at him. Your eyes glisten. “Hi, J.”
He noticed your eyes glistening with tears and pulled you into a tight hug. He couldn’t resent you for making the choice to break up with his brother.
“I missed you,” He said quietly and rubbed you back softly when he felt you cry softly.
“I’m sorry.” You whispered.
He comforted you, and he noticed that you had gotten skinnier and more exhausted.
You were still hurting.
Jaafar stood in the distance, looking at you and Jermajesty hugging.
He didn’t think that you would come to the party, but you did.
His heart broke when he saw that you looked slimmer and more exhausted from a distance. Taking a deep breath, he walked up to you two.
“Can I talk to you?” he asked.
You took a deep breath before you let go of Jermajesty.
“Yes.”
“I’ll see you around y/n, I love you.” He said, giving you a last hug, and walked away.
Turning to Jaafar. You looked at him.
After eight months, he still looked at you the exact same way, with love.
You were his home.
His comfort.
His person.
“You actually came.” He said barely above a whisper.
There was hurt and sadness in his eyes; it destroyed you, but you knew that you couldn’t break down again.
“Katherine invited me, I can’t say no to her.
He chuckled softly and nodded his head.
You and Katherine would hang out at times and would talk on the phone. She loved you a lot, and she would always tell him to take care of you.
He stood a few feet away with his hands inside his pockets.
“You should’ve told me.”
Your throat tightened.
“What are you talking about?”
“How much hate were you receiving? How was it negatively impacting you?” he said, looking at your eyes glistening with tears.
“I failed you.” He spoke.
“I was being naïve and planning our wedding while you were hurting on the inside.” He whispered.
“W-what?”
“Grandma told me that she heard you cry on the phone. I should’ve been there for you.”
Shaking your head softly.
“It’s my fault, I didn’t protect you.”
Tears burned your eyes instantly.
“You couldn’t do much or do anything against the hate, Jaafar. I thought that I could be strong for us, but it got to a point where I started losing myself. While you were gone filming, everything came crashing down. I should’ve said something, but I didn’t want you to get attacked either.”
Jaafar started to realize that you were just trying to protect him. You pushed your emotions aside to keep him safe from the hate.
“I believed that if I broke off the engagement, everything would stop. In my head, I thought that I was the one who was ruining everything for you.”
He began tearing up.
“You could never ruin anything for me. What ruined me was you ending us.”
Tears rolled down.
“In a relationship, there needs to be communication, but I see where you are coming from.” He said and caressed your cheek, wiping away the tears that rolled down your cheeks.
“I didn’t want you to see how weak I am.” You cried softly. “I r-really tried.”
He shook his head. “You aren’t weak at all. You are the strongest person that I know. You should never carry these types of emotions to yourself, okay?”
Nodding your head, you broke down crying again.
Immediately hugging you.
“I still love you, baby. Every single day that we were apart, I still loved you.” He said quietly.
“I’m so sorry.”
He pulled back just enough to look at you.
“Do you still love me?”
The question sounded vulnerable, almost pleading to know.
After everything and knowing you. He was afraid that over the past eight months, you didn’t love him anymore.
“I’ll always love you.”
He closed his eyes briefly as his body and mind felt relieved that you still loved him.
“Don’t ever leave me again, baby.” He begged, studying your face, trying to make sure that you meant what you said.
“Never again.” You said softly.
With a small smile, he brought his hand down to his pocket and grabbed your engagement ring.
“I have your ring.” He said softly.
You wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed him softly.
Letting your actions take over. He immediately wrapped his arms around your waist and kissed your back. Electricity surging between you both, just like all the other times that you would kiss.
Both of you kissed passionately.
Leaning back slowly, both of you smiled at each other breathlessly.
“Would you like to be my fiancée again?” he said.
“I would love to be your fiancée again.” You spoke.
He grabbed your hand and slid your custom-made engagement ring right where it belonged.

Today was finally your day off from work and had made plans with your best friend of many years, Jermajesty. You both met in middle school and ever since you both were inseparable. Always hanging out, texting, calling, you practically grew up together and grew up around the Jackson family.
You still remembered when you first met him at the age of fourteen.
Jermajesty had invited you to hang out after school one day, and both of you were in the kitchen eating some of the food his mother had cooked for them. Then Jaafar walked into the kitchen wearing a pair of grey sweatpants, a white hoodie, and his curls were messy; it showed that he had just woken up from a nap.
The moment that he introduced himself, you forgot how to breathe. His voice was deep and raspy.
From that moment on, you truly developed a crush on Jaafar.
Every moment from the first time you met him, you would double check your outfit before you went over to the Jackson household. Started to put a tiny bit of makeup on, you wanted to look presentable just for him. Every time he would smile at you, your stomach would flip each time even up until now.
__
Now you and Jermajesty are twenty-five years old, and you still had a crush on Jaafar.
“You still haven’t told Jaafar that you have feelings for him?.” He asked one night as you two were at his apartment eating sushi.
You shook your head instantly, “He will never know.”
“I’m telling, he likes you. I wouldn’t mind if you before my sister-in-law honestly.” He laughed.
You nearly choked on your drink when he said that. “He doesn’t like me.”
“If he didn’t like you, he wouldn’t buy you your favorite candies when you say I’m craving a sweet treat. He literally brought you the five jellycats that you said that you wanted.”
You shook your head in denial. “He would’ve said something.”
Jermajesty rolled his eyes, knowing that in two days, Jaafar had something up his sleeve for your birthday.
__
The Jackson family had invited you over to celebrate your birthday as you did every year. They would make a dinner for you, sing you happy birthday, and you would open the gifts that they had brought for you. Throughout the dinner, Jaafar was three seats away from you, laughing at whatever his brother Donte was saying to him. Every couple of minutes, he would look at you.
You would give him a soft smile each time, your stomach flipping each time you caught him.
Jaafar has been hopelessly in love with her for almost a decade now.
He noticed and remembered the things you liked and didn’t like.
The way you would fidget with your necklace when nervous.
How happy you would get when they would mention your favorite restaurant when the three of you would hang out.
How your eyes softened when you spoke about something that inspired you.
He remembered your iced coffee order by heart.
After all these years, he knew that he wanted to be with you even more. All these years that he saw you grow into the beautiful woman that you are today, he wanted to be the one for you
Jaafar decided that today was going to be the day that he was going to admit his true feelings for you. He asked Jermajesty a few weeks ago to come with him to the jewelry store that you three had visited a few months ago. You pointed out the silver bracelet that was decorated with tiny diamonds, mentioning that you were saving money to buy it. It was a simple and elegant bracelet that screamed you.
He told his younger brother that he was finally going to confess his feelings for you at the birthday dinner. Jermajesty leaned his head back and looked at the sky.
“Thank you, lord. You heard my prayers.” He spoke.
Jermajesty gave him the unnecessary blessing to date you. He was happy that you two would get together; he knew you were meant to be together.
Jaafar remembered every exact detail of you.
He wanted to show you that he did listen to you.
“It’s Jaafar’s turn,” Jermajesty said with a small tease.
“Don’t start.” You said, "I'm sorry," and gave him a small punch on the shoulder.
“Can you actually come with me?” Jaafar asked, standing up and extending his hand towards you.
“Yes, of course.” You said, Giving him your hand and got up. Both of you are walking on the porch of the house.
Your heart pounded harder every second that passed by.
Jaafar reached into his sweater's pocket.
“I brought you out here because I wanted to give you this.” He said softly.
You smiled at him softly.
He handed you a small grey box.
“What’s this?” you asked, confused.
“Just open it.” He laughed softly. His heart pounding, scared that you wouldn’t like it.
Slowly, you lifted the lid of the grey box.
“No way.” You said softly when you recognized the silver bracelet that was decorated with tiny diamonds.
“You remembered that I wanted this bracelet?” you asked in shock.
He smiled softly, his cheeks turning a bit red.
“You said that you wanted to get it. I remembered; well, I remember everything about you.”
You began getting teary-eyed.
No one has remembered these details about you.
“Thank you.” You said and wrapped your arms around his waist. Hugging him tightly, “Thank you so much.” You whispered.
Jaafar immediately wrapped his arms around your shoulders and hugged your back.
“Happy birthday, y/n,” he said and rubbed small circles on your back. He felt you cry softly on his chest.
“Why are you crying?” he chuckled softly.
You shook your head slightly and kept hugging him.
“I hope you know that I love you, not just like a friend,” Jaafar confessed nervously.
You froze.
“Y-you are in love with me?”
“I have loved you for many years now. I was afraid that I was going to ruin our friendship and, most importantly, your friendship with Jermajesty.” He said, pulling back slightly, bringing her hand under your chin to make you look up at him.
“But I love you too much, I knew that I needed to confess my feelings for you even if you don’t like me back.” He said quietly.
Jaafar loved you more than a friend.
Jermajesty was right.
All those times Jaafar brought you your favorite candy.
He would give you his hoodie when you mentioned that you were cold.
He was dropping hints, but you were too afraid to see the truth.
Without thinking about it, you got leaned up and kissed him.
Both of your lips moved gently against each other. The kiss was gentle and slow. He exhaled into the kiss as if he had been holding onto his breath for years.
He caressed your cheek as the kiss became more passionate.
Jaafar loved the feel of your lips against his; he was finally kissing the lips he had been longing for.
He tilted his head slightly, kissing you with more confidence. You swore your knees nearly gave out when you felt his tongue brush softly against your lower lip.
Immediately, you responded. The kiss becomes more intense.
You finally pulled back, both of you breathing heavily.
“I love you too.”
Jaafar smiled softly and rested his forehead against yours. Feeling as if he was on cloud nine. His almost-a-decade-long crush loved him.
“Would you like to be my girlfriend?” he asked, admiring you.
“I would love to be your girlfriend.” You said quietly with a smile.
He leaned back down and kissed you. The kiss was slower this time, mouths moving together slowly.
“About time!”
You both leaned back and turned to look at who screamed that. Jermajesty stood by the entrance with his arms crossed and a smile on his face.
“About time you guys got together. I have to go tell mom.” He said teasingly.
“Can you shut up?” Jaafar said with a smile.
“Mom! y/n and Jaafar are girlfriend and boyfriend!” Jermajesty said as he turned around and ran back inside the house to tell the family.

It was finally the premiere of “Michael”.
The flashes from all the Cameras lit up the carpet every second. You were on the red carpet with Jaafar, his hand resting on your exposed lower back. Both of you are posing for the photographers and the fans. This was your first time being on a red carpet, and your anxiety was a bit high. You weren’t honestly going to be part of the red carpet, but Jaafar had begged for you to join him. Who were you to tell your fiancée no?
You were very proud of him, and you knew that you had to be there up until the end. Just standing beside him made this easier and made you feel safer.
“You look so beautiful baby.” Jaafar whispered into your ear.
You smiled at him. “Thank you, babe.” You said and gave him a small peck.
Suddenly you felt someone tug your dress.
Looking down you saw his little brother Abu, arms up in the air.
“Up, please.” He spoke.
“Hi my baby.” You cooed, bending down and picked him up. “Are you tired?” You smiled at him.
Abu nodded his head and rested his cheek against your shoulder. He started to feel sleepier as you gently rubbed up and down his back.
Jaafar melted at the sight instantly and looked at his dad.
“He kept asking for y/n.” Jermaine said walking up next to Jaafar with his wife.
Jaafar laughed under his breath. “He always steals you from me.”
“I’ll take him inside, don’t worry about Abu. I’ll see you guys inside.” You said and pecked Jaafar’s lips softly.
“Thank you honey.” Jermaine said smiling at his soon to be daughter in law.
He knew that you were special when he met you and loved you much more when Abu was born. It’s as if you had maternal instincts with Abu even though you didn’t have kids.
As you began walking away inside the theater with Abu in your arms. Jaafar made sure that you were safe and sound inside the theater with his little brother.
“She is going to be a great mother.” Jermaine said and started posing with his son. “She is a keeper.”
“That’s why she is going to be my wife.” He said and kept smiling for the cameras.
__
You had carried Abu into the quiet area of the theater, going to the family only area that you were in earlier while getting ready for the red carpet. Carefully you sat down on the black velvet couch with Abu curled up against you, one hand rubbing slow and comforting circle on his small back.
“Song.” He whispered softly.
Smiling you started singing softly without thinking it.
“Each time the wind blows… I head your voice, so I call your name… Whispers in morning, our love is dawning.”
You kept singing softly for Abu, even after he quickly fell asleep in your arms. As you kept singing the song halfway, you finally noticed Jaafar who was standing at the doorway.
Jaafar quickly finished the red carpet and came to search for you inside the theater. He went to the family room, knowing that you were going to be there. As he was walking up to the room, he heard you singing down from the hallway. He walked slowly up to the door and smiled at the sight of you, sitting on the couch with a sleeping Abu. Your hands softly circling his small back and you singing softly.
He melted at the sight. Jaafar loved to see you with his little brother, there would be some weekends where you would pick Abu up from his house and bring him to the apartment. It felt as if you guys were a little family, he knew that you would be an amazing mom.
As you sang the song half-way, you felt someone’s presence. You looked at the door and smiled when you saw Jaafar looking at you.
“Hi.” You whispered.
He walked slowly and sat next to you on the couch.
“He was tired.” You said quietly and pecked Jaafar’s lips.
“I can see that.” He said softly and wrapped his arm around your waist.
“I love seeing you like this.” He said and rubbed small circles on your hips with his thumb.
You blush and turn to look at him.
“All we need is the wedding and then we could create our little one.” You said softly.
He smiled and nodded his head. “Six more months and I will be the happiest man alive.” He said, kissing you softly.
“Six.” You whispered and leaned your head on Jaafar’s shoulder.
Just sitting there in peace, as if you were a family.
This is the future that he wants, and he wouldn’t change it for anything.

Part 3
After the movie ended the first night that both of you spent the entire day together, Jaafar gave you a kiss on the cheek and kept his word to keep in contact. Ever since both of you were non-stop texting, calling, and facetiming. Jaafar decided to stay in the city until he had to leave for other promotions for the Michael movie. He wasn’t used to this type of schedules, and he decided to have a small mental health break before awards season started.
You haven’t seen Jaafar ever since your day together, but you were satisfied with the never-ending calls and texts. It is crazy to say but you had fallen for him.
Right now, you were at the studio. Working on new music, you felt inspired by a certain someone. Your phone buzzed, leaning over you saw his name and smiled.
Jaafar:
How is the studio session?
You:
So far so good, how are the interviews?
Jaafar:
So far, they are going well, after this one I’ll be free for three days.
You:
You got this!
Jaafar:
Thank you love:)…I have something to ask.
You:
Well, I might have an answer.
Jaafar:
Hilarious…would you maybe want to go on a date tonight?
Your heart began to race when you read the text message. You had to reread it a couple times, not meaning to leave him on read.
Jaafar:
y/n?
Smiling instantly, you smiled so hard as if he could see that you were smiling through the phone.
You:
I would really like that.
Jaafar let out a long breath that he didn’t know that he was holding and smiled; feeling like he was on cloud nine. After the hangout, the calls and texts were making him look forward on to something. Both of you would exchange pictures of your day, he liked when you would send him selfies of yourself in the studio. He knew that after your day together, he wanted to ask you out on a date but wanted to get to know you a little bit more.
Jaafar:
Perfect. I’ll come pick you up at 7pm wear something formal/casual. Can’t wait to see you.
You:
See you at 7<3
—
Standing in front of your mirror, you smoothed your hands down the sides of your outfit. After Jaafar asked you out on a date, you immediately left the studio to come back home to choose an outfit. Your best friend had to come over to help you out, she was freaking out even more than you.
She chose a black halter-top that was covered in white polka dots. The top hugged your figure perfectly, the asymmetrical neckline wrapped softly around your neck like a scarf. You paired it with a black relaxed fit pants and black kitten heels. Your best friend chose simple silver jewelry, simple hoop earrings, a bracelet, and a couple rings.
“Omg I love this!” she said as she sat on your bed. “He is going to go feral.” She smirked.
You laughed softly and nodded your head. “That’s the goal.” You said and looked at the time. 6:55 the clock showed.
“Oh shit, I better go. Good luck and have fun!” she said hugging you and left not wanting to run into Jaafar.
“You got this.” You said to yourself and grabbed your black purse. You felt confident but nervous at the same time because you haven’t gone on a official date in a couple of years.
—
Jaafar stood outside of your town house and took a deep breath before ringing your doorbell. He looked down at his outfit making sure everything was good. Jaafar chose to wear wide-leg black pants, a light blue button-up that was hung loosely under a black leather jacket and paired with black loafers.
He looked at the bouquet of flowers that he had gotten you after his interview, he had remembered that you told him what your favorite flowers were.
The moment you opened the door he completely froze. His eyes moved over your outfit and back to your face; you were stunning.
“You look beautiful.” He said quietly.
You felt your cheeks warm up. “Thank you, you look handsome.” You chuckled and smiled when you saw that he had gotten you, your favorite flowers.
“Thank you, y/n… T-these are for you.” he said handing you the bouquet. “I remembered that they are your favorite.”
You smiled so hard it almost hurt, you grabbed them and leaned up to give him a kiss on the cheek.
“Let me put them on a vase with water!” you said walking into your kitchen quickly, putting the bouquet on a vase with water and went back to your door.
“Ready.”
“Let’s go.” He said holding your hand and walking you to the car that his chauffer was driving.
Then he opened the car door for you.
“m’lady.”
Smiling you got inside the car, and he followed.
“Take us to the restaurant Will, please.” He told his chauffer.
—
Both of you were sat on the quieter and private part of the restaurant, just like Jaafar had requested.
Candles flickered at every table, warm lighting, and low jazz music playing in the background.
The date was going very well, both of you very comfortable with each other.
Jaafar couldn’t stop looking at you throughout the whole night.
The way you laughed.
Every time you tucked your hair behind your ear and the way your eyes met his across the table.
You had him in the palm of your hand, and you just didn’t know. He knew that you were the one for him.

As you walked into your townhouse, Jaafar looked around amazed by the decorations. In the entrance hall it was covered in pictures and polaroid’s of family, friends, and yourself when you were younger.
“This is really cool.” He complimented looking at all the pictures that scattered the wall.
You smile and nod. “I always take pictures of my family and friends when they come visit me. It just started out of nowhere.”
“By any chance, are you going to take my picture?” he asked and turned to look at you. Not able to help himself, you looked very cute looking at all the pictures on the wall.
“That sounds amazing! Let me grab my polaroid.” You said and went to your living room. Spotting your black polaroid camera, you came back to the entrance.
“Say cheese.” You said while getting to snap a polaroid picture of him.
He immediately smiled for the picture and stayed still until you captured it.
“Just grab a pin and stick it anywhere on the wall.” Once the film developed, you handed it to Jaafar.
“Yes ma’am.” He said and pinned his polaroid next to a picture of you.
“The picture turned out cute” you said and smiled at the polaroid.
“Well, I am handsome. I have to toot my own horn” he said confidently.
“Yeah, anyways. Make yourself at home,” you said rolling your eyes playfully, slipping your shoes off.
He laughed softly and removed his shoes.
“Let’s go see what I can cook” you said as you began walking to your kitchen.
—
“This is really good.” Jaafar said as he took another bite of the pasta that you had made.
“Don’t lie.” You said not believing him.
“I’m being legit, it’s very good.”
“You are.”
“I’m not,” he said and extended his arm towards you. “I pinky promise.” He spoke.
You smiled and interlocked your pinky with his.
After eating dinner and washing the dishes both of you went to your living room to watch a movie. Both of you chose to watch “The Breakfast Club”.
You grabbed the blanket that was at the end of the sofa and extended it. Covering your legs and Jaafar’s.
At some point through the move, your legs ended up tucked under his.
Jaafar had stopped fully paying attention to the movie and decided to make a move of his own. He faked yawned and rested his arm along the back of the couch, just behind you.
“Very smooth.” You said teasingly and leaned your head slightly against his shoulder.
Jaafar instantly relaxed and both of you stayed in that position for the rest of the movie. You both felt very comfortable with each other, he was mostly surprised because this was his first time being a situation like this. Most importantly is that he hasn’t talked to anyone or dated anyone in the two years and a half of practicing and filming for Michael. Who would’ve have thought that he was here with his celebrity crush, he felt safe with you.
“Did you like that small tour?” you asked out of nowhere.
Jaafar glanced down at you, his voice soft and calm.
“I liked it a lot, hopefully there is a second one.” He said hoping that you would say yes.
“There could be another one for sure.” You said and glanced down at his lips and back to him.
“Good thing that I’ll be staying in the city for two more weeks.” He said feeling himself blush but thankful that the tv was able to hide his crimson cheek.
“Noted.” You smiled and looked back at the tv.
“Are you dating anyone?” he asked randomly. Jaafar didn’t know why that question came out of his mouth, but he wanted to make sure.
“I wouldn’t be here with you like this, if I was.” You said and looked at him again. “Are you?”
He shook his head softly and smiled.
“Good.” You said and turned your head again to watch the movie.

Waking up the next day after the Met Gala felt unreal. You were sitting in your bed and looking out the window of you Brownstone town house. Just looking at the sight of people walking on the street and how admiring how beautiful the day looked. You only had five hours of sleep, but you were content because you spent the whole night texting Jaafar after you left the event. After you typed your phone number on his phone you had the feeling that he was going to text you immediately, but you didn’t want to seem desperate to text him back. You texted him back once you got home and he immediately texted you once he got a text back. Both of you spent the whole night texting up until you feel asleep.
Your phone buzzed, notifying that someone had texted you.
Jaafar:
Good morning!
A smile instantly pulled at your lips.
You stared at the text message for a second before you texted back.
You:
Good morning Mr. Jaafar
The typing bubbles immediately appeared.
Jaafar:
That made me feel old.
You:
Well, you are 4 years older than me, you are practically a senior citizen (jk!)
Jaafar:
You must admit, I look handsome for a senior citizen.
You:
Yeah, okay.
Jaafar:
Um…Rude! Anyways are you free today by any chance?
You immediately got up and ran out to the living room where your best friend was watching Tv on the sofa.
“I think he wants to see me today.” you said whisper screaming.
She immediately got up and grabbed your phone. “Oh shit! You need to hang out with him! Suggest that you can show him around the city.”
Nodded your head you grabbed the phone back and texted.
You:
I am free today, why?
“Yes! Act a tiny bit nonchalant” she with a small smirk.
Jaafar:
Could there be a possibility that I could see you today?
Both of you looked at each other and screamed.
“He wants you so bad Y/N! you have to see him” she said and got closer to read the text messages.
You:
I’m available all day today if anything I can show you around the city today.
Jaafar:
Would you like to meet up somewhere?
You:
Meet me at (your favorite café), is an hour, okay?
Jaafar:
I’ll see you in an hour.
Your best friend immediately got up and pulled you up. “You need to look cute today!” she said as she pulled you into your room and into your closet to help you choose an outfit for today.
Jaafar walked inside the café that Y/n chose to meet up in, a bit earlier which is something he never did but today it mattered a lot. His mind was racing with different thoughts. He was mostly worried if he looked nice for her. He decided to wear a comfy but casual outfit, a maroon crew neck sweater paired with my dark jeans, and white sneakers.
He kept glancing at the door every time the bell on top of the door dinged when someone would walk into the café.
After what felt eternity, you walked into the café.
You looked beautiful; it was a casual but comfy outfit just like his.
It was just you in a oversized cream sweater, light washed jeans, and ballet flats. Your hair was loose and not in a bun like last night, and very light make up.
You stopped and scanned the café until you saw him. The second you saw him your face lit up, he felt happy and warm that you reacted that way when you saw him. That smile of yours was making him fall for you slowly but surely.
He stood up instinctively, not being able to stop a grin pulling at his lips as you walked over to him.
“Hey!” you said softly.
“Hi, love.” he said and slid the chair out so that you could thank.
“Why thank you” you said.
He sat right across from you, and he caught himself staring at you a tiny bit too long.
Not because you were one of his favorite artists.
But because you were very beautiful and there was something about you that made him feel comfortable.
What enchanted him the most was the way that your eyes brightened when you spoke about your interests. The sound of your soft laugh when you said a joke or spoke about a recent event. You were beautiful and he knew that he was a goner, not even caring that he had met you last night.
“Is this your first time in the city?” you asked as you took a sip of your cappuccino.
“This would be my third time, thirds time the charm” he said and took a sip of his coffee.
“What’s you opinion about talking the subway with me?” she asked teasingly.
He smiled and nodded his head. “I trust you enough to be my guide today.”
“Perfect, let’s start heading out then” she said as she got up to start their adventure in New York City.
—
Both of you wondered the streets of SoHo, you both stopped at a vintage shop. You made him try some clothes that suited him perfectly.
“That sweater is a keep,” you said as he gave you a small playful twirl, showing the cream-colored crew neck sweater.
Jaafar ended up buy the clothes that you have picked for him and complimented him on.
Later both of you walked a couple blocks to Washington Square Park, it was filled with street musicians, tarot readers, people playing chess, many more activities.
“This place is really cool,” he said as he sat on the edge of the fountain.
“I like coming here, someway somehow it’s relaxing for me” you said as you sat next to him. Your knees brushing occasionally but neither of you moved away.
“Any opinions about your guide?” you asked teasingly, and jazz handed.
He laughed softly. “The best one, I don’t have any complains. Maybe there could be more tours.”
You smiled and nodded your head. “Let me know when you are going to come back to the city, and I’ll give you more tours.” Feeling a bit sad that the sun started to set.
“Would you like to come with me, back to my place? I’ll cook something quick, and we could watch a movie or something?” you suggested not knowing where there random confidence came from.
Jaafar smiled, “I would like that a lot.” He said and got up extending his hand to you. “Let’s go my lady.”
“Such a gentleman.” You said as you held his hand to get up. Both are making their way to your place, not wanting this day to end.
