The Villain Arc. - Ch.2 The Genesis.
The past few days, I've been preparing myself for what's to come in my courses. I've never been more excited than I am right now. I even got offered a room in the building across from headquarters for hero trainees. Koa did give me a heads-up a day or two ago about the rundown that will take place in class. No pressure since she really does want me to leave a good impression on the professor and the higher-ranking heroes she works with. Our class consists of six students, including Tora and me.
Heroes are all placed in different-letter ranks depending on what class they belong to as well as their skills. The more you contribute to helping keep everyone safe, the higher your rank goes. We do live in a society where people who don't possess any form of ability are able to get a spot in the hero world, even if it is riskier for them. They devote themselves to making the world a better place.
The reason it really mattered to me about getting into this course was because, growing up, I was given up by my own father and left with my very ill mother, who didn't have very much time left. He blamed me for leaving us because he feared my ability. According to my mother, my ability was a curse and nothing close to a blessing, and she punished me for it. Yet I still know that, deep down, she loved me in her own way. Well, that's what I kept telling myself for the sake of my own sanity. The thing is that after my mother passed, Tora's parents decided to take me in as one of their own. They showed me what it is to be loved and wanted, which filled my heart with warmth. Tora and I were raised to believe that even though some may look down on us, we will always have the choice to close that gap and stand with them, not against them. Things didn't start taking a turn for the worse until we started the academy.
One day after class, we decided to walk instead of taking the bus home since it was packed because of the rain. One thing led to another; we ended up getting followed, and I got slammed against the wall by one of our classmates while the others went after Tora, making her fall to the ground, and that was what struck a nerve in me.
My mind went blank.
I will never forget the look on Tora's face at how terrified she was—not by them but by me. What I was told is that the reason my ability got provoked was because of the burst of adrenaline that went through my body, which kicked me into an instant fight or flight mode, making me fully lose control. That's why I will do anything in my power to be able to control it. That's a promise I'm willing to make. I will become one of the world's greatest heroes to show that nobody can hold you back other than yourself.
I finished getting dressed, wearing one of my black dresses and my favorite platform boots. Once I was outside, I checked my phone to take a quick peek at the time. With 40 minutes to spare before class starts, a quick breakfast wouldn't hurt. It sounds like a plan; maybe I can bring Tora something too, since I know sometimes she forgets to eat. I scanned all the small shops near me as I continued walking, my eyes landing on a familiar tall frame making their way through all the people.
Is that no? It can't be. It has to be him.
Before I knew it, my legs had a mind of their own, making their way to him. Where is he heading? Since he's walking so fast at this point, I'll never catch up to him. I noticed him take a sharp turn into an empty alleyway, not knowing where it led, yet I continued running after him. I ended up crashing into someone, breaking my fall. "Are you not watching where you're going?" the man grunted as both of us were now on the ground, not even facing me yet. Panting, I shook my head, blurting out my apologies. "I'm sorry, I was trying to catch up to someone, but I didn't think anyone would be standing here." I tried explaining myself as he turned to face me.
It was him, one of the guys I met the other day, the dirty blonde-haired one who had covered his face just so I wouldn't be able to see him. He smelt nice, nothing like his friend; he had a softer scent; it was earthy mixed in with the smallest bit of cologne. I also had a clear view of his face; he was pale, and his face was slim with tired eyes. His eyes were a soft shade of gray, nothing to do with that dark front he puts on. His dirty blonde hair framed his face perfectly, making his eyes stand out. But something I didn't notice before was that he had a scar on the corner of his lips. I reached over to trace it, wondering what had happened before my wrist was suddenly loosely gripped, snapping me out of thought. His cheeks were tinted a light red, confused by what just happened. Was I about to touch his lips? I could feel my cheeks heat up, but he ended up breaking the silence. "You're sitting on me," he said under his breath. I quickly pushed myself off of him, getting up and fixing myself, and he stood up right after me.
"Who are you?" I said, staring at him, hoping for a straight-forward answer. He shook his head, beginning to walk away, shoving his hands into his pockets. "I didn't chase after you just to fall on you, so the least you can do is tell me your name," I spoke up, grabbing onto his arm and making him stop in his tracks.
"Who am I?" He trailed off before looking over his shoulder to look directly at me.
"My name is Rei,"
The Villain Arc. - Ch.1 Inevitable Encounter.
"Sorry ma'am but we still haven't had any update on your hero course application." The receptionist said to me not even bothering to face me. As she continued to fill out some paperwork she was doing before I came in. This is the 5th time this month I've come to check on the status of the application. I walked out disappointed out of the office building into the empty ally nearby. I pressed my back onto the cold concrete wall as I slid down and buried my face into my knees. This is so stupid I've been waiting for the past few months and still nothing no update or anything. Maybe a little reassurance would help even a little bit. Oh, who am I kidding I'm just giving myself false hope.
"It's dangerous for you to be around here alone," a raspy low voice trailed off followed by a flickering sound. The man walked over towards me his beaten-up shoes now being in my peripheral vision. I could see that he stood in front of me as I looked up just to be greeted by an ominous figure that could easily tower over me at any given moment making me feel a bit vulnerable. But instead, he crouched down to my level as I still was sitting down on the ground, he held a cigarette between his lips inhaling it as he blew the white clouds of smoke away from me. What is he doing? I couldn't put a face to the voice his hood shadowed his features making him unrecognizable. I froze still not knowing what to do. It's not like I can do anything since I'm still trying to learn more about my ability, I can't control it hence why I can't even defend myself.
"Hey R-." A harsher voice echoed through the ally as it came from behind the hooded man. This other person was trying to steal a glance before speaking up. "Who the hell is she?" he said trying to step closer before the hooded man pushed him by his legs with his arms. "I don't know but she isn't a threat to us at all. Let's hurry up and leave," he spoke once more before standing up towering over the guy that was walking towards us a few seconds ago. Who the hell are these guys and what are they up to? Should I try stopping them? No that can get me killed. I mean if they are criminals. "Yeah, sure let's go I got what we needed." The hooded man's friend said walking away and waving the files from his hands almost flaunting it. "See you around. Also, small tip don't let these heroes push you around." the ominous guy said chuckling before putting out his cigarette using the wall and flicking it to the side. Just like that In a blink of an eye, I lost sight of them.
"Hey Ilia I finally found you! Guess what!" My childhood friend Tora said as she ran towards me once she spotted me from the end of the empty ally. "What's wrong Ilis looks like you've seen a ghost or something" Rin chimed in as her heels clicked behind Tora’s short frame. I adored yet envied Rin she was already a pro hero by the time we finished the academy. It has always been Tora and I since the day we discovered our abilities in grade school. After a few years when we began the academy, Tora introduced me to Rin since she was the new transferee also known as 'Koa' which we call her by when she's in her disguise she has such an amazing quirk called Desires which made her able to send someone into a physical illusion of their biggest desires if she gets near enough making them go in total shock. On the other hand, Tora had a support quirk called Internal Restoration. Anything she holds onto fully restores to its original state but if she holds on too long it can cause Internal pain.
Then there's my quirk I've always gotten poked fun at for having a more 'different' quirk called Bloodthirst which I have no control whatsoever hence why I want to take the college hero course since the pro heroes help out with lessons. I do know that Bloodthirst physically makes me stronger and gives me more resistance during combat but that's all I've been told of.
"Earth to Ilia?" Tora sang as she nudged on my shoulder. "Sorry I kind of zoned out there for a moment" I mumbled before standing up and dusting off my pants. "Lightened up because we have big news! I was able to pull some strings for your application and got you a spot in the hero course! I know how much it means to you. Thank me later" Koa smiled clapping her hands together as Tora jumped onto my back. " I love you guys so much what would I do without you now I’ll be one step closer to becoming a pro. To celebrate we should go out for dinner my treat!" I cheered pulling all three of us pulling into a warm group hug.
It's been a few hours since Tora and Koa told me the news and since the incident happened yet it keeps replaying in my head. "It's dangerous for you to be around here alone." His scent was almost luring he smelt so soft yet sweet but the cigarette he had drowned it out. His aura was deceiving in a way that it gave me this unsettling feeling. While the other guy I was able to get a glimpse of him he had dirty blonde hair that was tied half up and grey eyes that even looked dead in a way yet he covered his lower face with a file until he turned around and walked away.
What did he even mean by "Don't let these heroes push you around?" Whatever maybe I'm just overthinking this whole thing. I lifted myself off the couch deciding to wash my face with ice cold water to snap me out of this train of thought.
But I can't help but think who were they and what were they doing? So many questions running through my head.
Who was he?

The Villain Arc. - Prologue
Who am I? Here I stand between the thin line that defines good from evil. I'm a hero. Right? It's my life purpose, but now that I'm here where I need to be it just doesn't feel right. I was always told you can't save those who don't need saving. Ilia contemplated to herself as she stood in front of the electronic store. Her eyes glistened as she gazed through the glass to get a peak of the news shown on the screen. Akuji was finally caught and pinned face down to the ground by the police force. Media was swarming the whole area. Meanwhile, a few of the remaining heroes like Enver and Koa were still posted in the back in case hell broke loose. Something about Akuji seems different. The news reporter slowly zoomed in on him as he got lifted off from the ground. His black raven-like hair shielded his eyes from the flashing cameras. We were only able to see the lower part of his beaten-up face. The civilians slowly started to gather around the store just to be able to take a glimpse of what was happening on TV. "Did they finally catch him" and "Are we safe" were being whispered around between one another. Ilia had felt the energy shift, like that eerie feeling you would get when being watched. Even if he's the most wanted villain was he intentionally let himself get caught?

I just had the best encounter with a child at Kmart. I was in the aisle shopping, and this girl and her dad come around the corner. The girl sees me and excitedly exclaims “There’s a human here!!” to which the father replied “Yes, there’s humans everywhere.”
