Getting By {ft. Elly}

The connection between him and Elly is impossibly incomparable. They worked well in every dynamic duo relationship. When they were lovers, they rocked each other’s worlds. As enemies, neither stood down to the other. As best friends, they were inseparable. There were days when he couldn’t remember the time when she wasn’t in his life. When he did, however. A shudder runs down his spine as he felt her inclined to step away from him. Remember the days she wasn’t in his life made it harder for him to breathe. 

Squeezing her into a tight bear hug, Minsoo finally lets Hyojin go. A pitiful sigh escaping his lips, as he forced himself to part from her. “Alright, get dressed cat-lady.” Taking another big gulp from his drink, Minsoo picked up the snacks and their drinks before making his way to her living room. Making a second trip, to get more alcohol for them and considered for a moment if he should call in for delivery. “Oi! Want me to call in for more food?"

Although he caught on with all her teasing, remarks and otherwise, Minsoo’s mind had been spiralling down a path since last months evaluation. It was a slow road initially, now everything simply felt wrong. If anything, he knew she would be able to fix things. If not, at least hit him hard enough to draw back some senses into him. “I should bring my dogs over, see how well they’ll play with your cats.” Smirking as he gently picks up her cat, playfully glaring at it before setting on the floor softly. Only to flop down on her sofa dramatically, effortlessly opening a bag of doritos and started munching away.

It wasn’t his place to ask what happened between her and Kangjoon. Funny how relationships work, sometimes no matter how many times one tries to make things work, the exact opposite happens. Sometimes the exact opposite occurs, rarely when Minsoo is involved. Romantically or otherwise. the fallen smoke bud illuminated within the moonlight in comparison to the old clean pavement. 

He nodded, acknowledging her weary acceptance to his invitation. In so many odd ways, he felt like he could relate to her; choices had to be made. As selfish and destructive as they may be, someone takes them anyways. It doesn’t take long for the deliver to get there, just after their conversation drew to a close. Minsoo paid and carried their food, “I’m working in studio 3, right by the corner on the third floor. It’s pretty secluded and weirdly enough it has windows, great place to sneak food in.” Giving her a mischievous smile, his expression clearly more friendly from when they started talking. They might not be friends, but it doesn’t mean they couldn’t be civil with each other.

“i don’t like my hair…” was literally the first thing hyo-jin told her ex when she saw him in the gym the morning after she dyed her hair. “yours looks nice tho..” she commented soon after, eyes glued to the nice shade of brown minsoo had gotten. honestly, the whole idea of filming commercials seemed pretty pointless to her, but she couldn’t just blurt that out. it would be really ungrateful if she just.. did it, like that, there were probably so many people who would love to be in her place and end up on tv, but she would have done it either way. it was a matter of time before royal shot her ass in the survival show they were planning.

“well, you also got a better theme.” she said, but didnt sound so bitter as she thought she would be. then again, her whole week had been stressful and just.. she was actually tired for once, the whole insomnia thing was finally taking a nasty toll on her body and brain “i’m not staying after training hours tonight. i’m too tired.” elly added soon after she and minsoo found themselves on the treadmill for their warm up.

“You’re isn’t that bad.” Eyes wondering at the top of her head, going down to assess the whole new look. “It complements your fair skin. You look paler, but not the I’m-sick-to-death kind.” He walked a bit sluggishly towards the machine next to the one she was working with. He hadn’t had a wink of sleep last night, and to pass the time he ended up going to the of their usual bars. As always, it wasn’t the best thing he’s ever thought of, during the night like last night. 

“It’s alright, I thought we’d be out more doing actually being adventurous, but nope.” Shaking his head, his pace on the treadmill barely moving. Quite similar to how his bedroom wouldn’t stop spinning when he finally woke up from his nap that morning. “Awww Hyo-jin, is being too kind, tiring you out?” Teasing his best friend, finally picking up the pace a bit. “Going home and passing out though. Sounds fantastic."

That Night {ft. Minhee}

The traffic on the streets grew less as the night reached its peak. Driving through the busy lanes of Seoul, never felt so relaxed until hours like these, and well into the morning dawn, before the bustling city wakes up for the new day. Reaching for the screen on his car, he dialled for her number to be called, promising to come by and pick her up that evening. 

“Hey, I’m here, hurry up.” He called out when she picked up, simultaneously parking by the front of her building. It had been ages since they’ve gotten together, let alone just the two of them. Minsoo felt awful at the thought that he was potentially neglecting his friendship with her when in reality Minhee was like the sister he never had. So taking her away for the evening, seemed like a perfect way to catch up with her and relax a little too. Get away from his problem, with one of his favourite girls.

“I’ll hold you up on that promise.” Cookies, burnt or otherwise, sounds pretty amazing. Especially when they were free. Although the camera in his hands would beg to differ, considering that he was doing her a favour after she dragged him to the practice room while he stood idly by the wall. Doing absolutely nothing with his life. 

Being an artist and performer himself, the rapper finds himself appreciating and as always impressed by her talent. It was evident why their company had signed and kept Jieun, she is clearly one of the best in dancers out there. With the potential to improve pass everyone’s expectations. Seeing her like this, Minsoo couldn’t help but to be proud of her and glad to have a chance to work with someone as dedicated as her. 

“You did great, pixie” Ruffling her hair, showing her the clip he recorded. “I got everything, although if you want, we can try them in different angles and all that? So have a proper visualisation of the whole choreography.”

Make Minsoo do anything, and he could probably do said anything with great success and bare minimal injuries. Anything, except for dancing. Being a trainee changed a lot of things in his life, one of them making him suffer through rigorous dance practice everyday. Something he didn’t take much into consideration when he was pursuing a career in the industry. Especially when he had rap going on for him. 

With that thought it mind, it was hard for him to keep a straight face when he watched his best friend trip on his own two feet trying to do a dance move. “Shit. You alright there buddy?” Moving quickly to help, Kangjoon up, Minsoo bit his lower lip to stop a grin from escaping his lips. Unknowing that karma is just about to bite him in the ass during their practice. “Maybe we should start with a different portion of the routine, huh?"

Observing her by the corner of his gaze, as she contemplates on his question had his mind wandering into a different direction. He thought of the time when he was her age, the days when he carelessly moved from one lover to the next, as though they meaning nothing more but a good night’s activity. He wonders if he ever left a woman to contemplate about a heartbreak like she is now, inhaling another puff of his stick, he tries to shy away from such thoughts. Especially when a few names of passed significant others, started to drift into his mind. 

He nodded at her thoughtful reply, grateful to get a truthful answer from her. He returned the shrug, before answering the question she provided him. “They’re alright, Jieun’s keeping busy, now being signed and all. Kangjoon, has seen better days too. But he’s a big boy now, he’ll pull through.” The rapper answering honestly, giving her enough information to be satisfied with yet not diving into the question to provide how busy Jieun actually and how much of a mess his best friend has been the last few days. 

Taking a final blow of his smoke, he flicks the bud away, watching it fall hard on the ground before talking again. “I’m waiting for some food delivery, reckon I ordered enough for three people if you want some, you can join me for a late night snack?” Offering her a share of his meal, she was keeping him company now she might as well do so while eating something before they both went back to work.

The younger’s age flashed like a red warning sign through the troublemaker’s mind. Shutting his hazel eyes, tightly for a moment before opening them and blinking a few times. His sight adjusting to prove that he wasn’t simply hallucinating and this was in fact happening. “Bloody hell.” He curses under his breath. 

“Nice to meet you too, buddy.” Halfheartedly raising up his drink to acknowledge the new trainee’s greeting. “Bang Minsoo.” Introducing himself in return, as he moves further into the room again. Reaching for his rucksack and rampaging through it for his phone, “how’s the new trainee life treating you, kid?"

Leaning back, to slide down the mirrored wall to slide on the floor. “Which eval group are you in again?” He asked curiously, wondering if they were in the same group or if the younger was roped up with the others. Not that he minded really, but he kind of hoped that Dongmin didn’t have to leave the room and potentially run into the instructor that was after him. He just met the teen, Minsoo ain’t trusting him too easily.

Typically greeting he expected from the younger. The rapper’s eyes skimmed through the younger’s physic. Mentally assessing how the new trainee was physically coping up with the busy schedule that entertainment companies enforce on their contracted artist.

“Well I thought I’d surprise KT’s new boy toy.” He smirks leaning up as he watched the other wonder into the room. “No dinner? Well shit, you ain’t useful at all.” Scowling, quickly diverting his attention on his phone, this time to order some food on delivery. “Eventually, you’ll get sick and tired of cafeteria food.” Shaking his head, rolling his eyes one more time when he was accused of playing hookie. “No. shithead. With the evals around the corner, I need all the work time I can get."

“This, my little shiteater, is your gift for christmas O’16, your upcoming birthday and for getting signed in to hell again.” Smiling brightly, patting small set up he worked on a few hours back, right after he got back from work. “You’re back into the industry, this is gonna help a lot when you can’t sneak into a studio back at work. You can thank me, by paying for the dinner I just ordered."

He couldn’t help but check her out the moment he turned around. He is, of course, a full-blooded male, standing in front of a wet, barely covered female. Tilting his head to the side, his eyes narrowing as he watched a drop of water slid down her shoulder and into the curves of her chest just before her towel covered her ‘decently’. 

“Well I do need you.” Minsoo shrugs, moving his gaze away from her, walking off the sensation that Elly could easily bring out from him. “Sex is optional, but that would mean I’ll be cheating and though I said I wanna do something stupid, it doesn’t involve getting killed by Jieun.” Sliding away from the counter, he picks up two glasses, tossing his leather jacket haphazardly on one of her chairs, the rapper starts to mix up their drinks.

With a heavy sigh, he turns to look at her. This time properly look at his best friend with sorrowful eyes. “I wanna get shit faced drunk and de-age a bit. Can you make that happen?” Taking a big gulp at the strong mixture of all sorts of hard alcohol. He gestures for her to come closer, drawing her into a one armed hug, Minsoo rests his chin just before her crown. “There’s something wrong with me. And I don’t know what it is."

He didn’t know what was happening to him. Running through the stairs up to her apartment, he wills his mind to draw blank from the bombarding messy thoughts that have been occupying it for several weeks now. He needed to talk to her, she would make things better. She always does.  

Using his spare he walks straight into her home, yelling for her as he makes a beeline to the kitchen. “Hyojin!” Quickly raiding her alcohol stash, and piling them out the counter top he doesn’t bother waiting for her appear before him as he starts talking again. “I need you. I need a break, it’s also been awhile since we’ve done anything stupid so lets, and where the fuck is your nacho sauce?

He sat behind his group mates rather than beside them. His thoughts during their performance still brewing within his mind and frankly though they performed well, he wasn’t feeling up for a celebration. Even if it was as small as being happy about the fact they got this out of the way. Not when he knew there would always be another Eval at the end of each month.

His feet tapped to the rhythm of his sunbae’s song. As KT’s boys started to enter the stage, and perform Minsoo let his eyes watched almost lifelessly at the whole performance. Smiling ever so slightly at the sight of his best friends doing their thing. It felt a bit bothersome and almost unfair that he was watching their stage with such clouded thoughts.

But Minsoo couldn’t help to wonder, how much longer would they all need to sit around on their asses waiting to debut. Statistically speaking, idol groups are produced for young teens which mean that even though there might be some mid-twenty something who might listen to the newest boy band. Debuting in your twenties is a risky bet.

With a frustrated sigh, he watched the final steps of the routine that KT boy’s performed brilliantly. His gaze falling on his friends, both those on stage and the ones in front of him. Finally lingering on Dongmin, it’s starting to become apparent that if they would have any success at all, he would be most likely debuting with a group like he performed with just now. A veteran triple threat public trainee, a visual with a fan base due to previous activities,  a trainee that could appeal to their target audience age and him, the scandal magnet wide card.

“Fuck.” He whispered under his breath as he clapped with everyone else, nodding at both Aron and Gary in acknowledgment. Running a hand through his hair, trying to get a grip of himself waiting to be dismissed, for each second he was starting to become suffocated in that performance area.
