Canada tries to strip citizenship from man accused of butchering villagers

Canada is moving to strip citizenship from a man accused of slaughtering villagers in Guatemala using a grenade, gun and sledgehammer. Jorge Vinicio Sosa Orantes concealed his brutal role in a 1982 massacre by the Guatemalan military in obtaining Canadian citizenship a decade later, the federal government says in newly filed court documents. Sosa Orantes, 59, is now serving a 10-year sentence for immigration fraud in the United States, where he also held citizenship until it was revoked in 2014.

The members of the special forces group killed their victims by hitting them on the head with a sledgehammer, by hitting their heads on a tree, by shooting them, or by slitting their throats.

At one point, Sosa Orantes fired his rifle into the well, then tossed in a grenade, the documents say. In supervising the killings at the well, he mocked subordinates "who showed any hesitation to commit the murders."

A London museum has revealed that the remains of five archbishops of Canterbury were discovered inside a secret tomb beneath its building. The Garden Museum posted a statement and video Sunday revealing the find, which was made more than a year ago. The museum sits on a site that used to house the former St. Mary-at-Lambeth Church and is located next to Lambeth Palace, the archbishop of Canterbury's London residence.

The remains were found while builders were renovating the building. They lifted some slabs to reveal a hidden crypt.

After only scoring two goals combined in the first two games of the series, Columbus scored three goals in just over six minutes of the first period. But the Penguins regained their composure and pushed back hard during the second period to tie the score at 3-3.

Moore, a regional economic development officer, says the return of parked natural gas drilling rigs and related equipment to the field shows that a recovery is underway for one of Canada's biggest new energy plays. Fort St. John sits atop the Montney, a natural gas-bearing formation that straddles the B.C.-Alberta border.

Calgary-based Encana (TSX:ECA) has said it wants to nearly double its Montney gas output to 1.2 billion cubic feet per day by 2019, while its associated Montney output of liquids such as condensate and propane is expected to grow by five times to 70,000 barrels per day.

Indonesian police on Monday blocked plans by hardline Islamist groups to guard polling booths during Wednesday's vote for Jakarta governor, citing the potential for clashes in an election that has stoked religious tensions. The evacuation of more than 3,000 Syrians that was scheduled to take place Sunday from four areas as part of a population transfer has been postponed, opposition activists said, a day after a deadly blast that killed more than 120 people, many of them government supporters. The reasons for the delay were not immediately clear. It came as shells fired by the Islamic State group on government-held parts of the eastern city of Deir el-Zour wounded two members of a Russian media delegation visiting the area, according to state-run Syrian news agency SANA.
