Four occasions we recommend La Solution 10 as the go-to moisturiser
Travel
We all know traveling can be stressful, and this shows in our skin. The jetlag and long hours in the dry climate of the airplane also causes our skin to lose its glow and become dry.
I don’t want to do my airport check-in with a face shiny with moisturiser, but I do want to keep my skin supple and hydrated. Here is when La Solution 10, which is moisturizing without being greasy, comes in handy. I cleansed and applied this on my skin before boarding the plane and about 30 minutes before landing for an extra boost. The product is the consistency of Greek yogurt and was absorbed into my skin almost instantly, making it perfect as a day-to-night skin fix. No more stepping off a plane into a brand new city looking tired and lackluster.
Post-facial
I love a monthly facial, which deep cleanses and gives me glowing skin. However, in the hours right after the treatment, especially if I have had extractions or treatments that involve acids, my skin may be prone to redness and sensitivity.
In this situation, my usual bevy of products may be too heavy or harsh on irritated skin. The fragrance-free, alcohol-free and ultra-gentle La Solution 10 allows me to slap on a little extra bit of moisture before sleep without fear that I will aggravate my skin.
Irritated skin
Anything from hay fever to a common cold may lead skin to become blotchy and irritated, especially for those prone to allergies like me. La Solution has helped soothe my skin when it feels raw or painful to the touch, especially around the nose area on days the nose cannot seem to stop running.
The star ingredient of the product is silver needle tea, which has twice has many polyphenols as green tea -- this means it tells your skin to relax and stop looking red and angry. Bravo!
A day outdoors
Being outdoors in the city isn’t all fresh air and sunshine. On the contrary, pollution from vehicles, construction works and such tend to irritate skin. Being exposed to climatic conditions such as UV rays also means our skin needs even more tender loving care.
La Solution 10, formulated specially for these conditions, will help heal your skin after a day of being exposed to these aggressors, and nurture it to its ideal, peaceful state.
Tip: Those with sensitive skin may want to start off with just this one product and then gradually build up a routine with other complimentary items formulated for sensitive skin. For those who usually have normal skin but sometimes suffer from irritation or redness (and who doesn’t?), La Solution 10 is your perfect pick-me-up for the times you need just a touch more TLC.
Beach bunnies: Pack light but don’t skimp on skincare!
Craving some sun and surf? Luckily, Singapore is a tropical paradise, so with it comes plenty of chances to hit the beach all year round. There are plenty of great seaside resorts within easy reach of Singapore, and once you’ve chosen your destination, it’s time to start packing. You won’t need much for your days on the beach, but aside from packing swimsuits, sunglasses and a good book, you mustn’t forget your skincare!
Cover up
We’re not talking about a sarong, although they are also handy for trips to the hotel bar or restaurant when refuelling. If you’re spending time under the sun and in the sea, you’ll need to protect yourself with a waterproof sunblock that won’t wash off after the first dip. CHANEL’s new UV Essentiel Gel Crème protects skin with its anti-UV approach and high SPF of 50. It comes with the added benefit of a unique formula which acts as an anti-pollution shield, safeguarding skin against the damaging effects of the sun and surrounding pollutants. Ultra-lightweight and smooth to apply, the UV Essentiel Gel Crème gives skin a silky satin finish instead of that greasy shine we’re so used to sporting on the beach
Calm down
It’s happened to the best of us – despite our best intentions, we step out of the shower after a day by the seaside to find ourselves covered in unsightly red tan lines, and a lobster-like complexion. This is when a top-quality moisturiser comes in handy, or better yet, a potent, deep-reaching mist. CHANEL’s Hydra Beauty Essence Mist delivers an immediate dose of hydration and energy to your damaged skin, thanks to the presence of vitamin derivatives C andE, and hyaluronic acid. The ultra-fine mist is also a welcome refresher for that burning, tingling skin!
The all-in-one solution
If you can only fit one product in your carry-on luggage, then make sure it’s the CHANEL CC Cream. This perfect holiday all-rounder protects from UVA-UVB rays; soothes and moisturises tender, sunburnt skin; and reduces the appearance of redness, dark spots and enlarged pores for a fresh and natural makeup look. Perfect for when you head out on the town to show off your tan!
Here’s how to get the V-shaped face of your dreams
A V-shaped face is the ideal for many women for several reasons: it makes you look slimmer, younger, and altogether more feminine. In fact, it’s so sought after that many celebrities and socialites have even gone under the scalpel to shave their jawlines into a sharp, defined V. That may be a bit extreme for most of us (not to mention out of our price range) so we’ve rounded up the next best ways to achieve the ideal jawline.
Make faces
When you’re exercising it, that is! Facial exercises are the simplest and most cost-effective way to get the sharp, defined jawline of your dreams, plus you don’t need any special equipment, space, or time of day to do it. Here's a popular exercise which you can easily fit into your daily routine: tilt your head back slightly, then firmly tap the tip of your tongue behind your upper teeth, on that hard ridge on the roof of your mouth. Tap and relax for a minute, while keeping your head tilted back. You should be able to feel the muscles working under your chin. With consistent effort, you should see a toned, slimmer face in no time.
Massage away the bloat
Sometimes fluid retention is to blame for any puffiness you see in your face. To keep bloat at bay, invest in a lymphatic drainage massage for your face. Lymphatic massage helps the lymph system do its job better, which is carrying waste products away from body tissues back toward the heart. This reduces swelling and removes toxins from the body. For an added boost, invest in a face roller, a fuss-free way to combat puffiness. Move the roller upward as if pulling the skin on your chin toward the area under your ears. Just put something on the TV and roll away!
Watch your diet
Puffiness in the face can also be a result of an unbalanced diet, especially one that is high in sodium. That doesn’t mean you need to throw out your salt shaker just yet. Most of the sodium that ends up in our bodies comes from processed and pre-packaged foods, so the next time you’re thinking of succumbing to those 12am instant ramen cravings, don’t! But if you do, make sure to drink plenty of water to flush out the sodium.
Invest in good skincare
If you’ve been constantly exercising and massaging your face, but want to speed up the effect, try investing in face lifting products. The CHANEL Le Lift line has been raved over by beauty junkies and experts alike for their almost instantaneous results. Le Lift V-Flash is a firming serum that visibly tightens skin when applied, sharpening the outline of your face. The Le Lift Massage Cream, on the other hand, softens skin and fades wrinkles, as well as getting rid of sag or roundness, leaving you looking and feeling utterly refreshed.
Make up the slack
If all else fails, take a page from the Kardashian playbook and learn how to contour your face. It’s the easiest, albeit temporary, way to make your face look thinner, but the effects can be dramatic. Make sure to choose a contour shade that matches the natural shadowy tones of your face, and apply in precise strokes in the hollows of your cheeks, around the temples, and around the jaw and neck. Then, dust on Plissé Lumière de CHANEL onto your cheekbones and nose bridge for a natural golden glow!
What every woman in Singapore needs in her bag
Whether it’s a basic pack of makeup removing wipes or your favourite lipstick shade (or five), there are some things every woman needs in her bag aside from her wallet and keys. After all, you never know when a beauty emergency will crop up. Here are some of the essentials we think should have a permanent spot in your bag—which of these do you already have?
A hydrating mist
It’s no secret that our weather here can get really hot and humid, so much so that it can be uncomfortable and even cause skin problems. Contrary to what most people believe, humid air actually dries out the skin more, a problem which is exacerbated by being permanently in air-conditioning.
To combat this, make sure you carry a hydrating mist in your bag like CHANEL’s Hydra Beauty Essence Mist. Luxurious but lightweight, the mist is packed with antioxidants, vitamins C and E, and hyaluronic acid that helps to cool down and refresh skin, keeping it glowing beautifully throughout the day.
Blot it all out
It doesn’t seem to matter that we washed and primed our faces carefully before leaving the house in the morning – by lunchtime skin is already starting to get oily. To avoid that midday shine, be sure to have a packet of disposable blotting sheets in your handbag. Blotting sheets are a quick and easy way to get rid of excess sebum and oil, and best of all, using them won’t ruin your makeup.
Essentials for a fresh face
Most of us are out and about all day, so it’s important to bring along the bare minimum of makeup for the occasional touch up - think last minute client meeting. Just the essentials will do here—a good powder compact, concealer, and blush is all you need to look put together at any time of the day.
The sheer powder and blush stick in CHANEL’s LES BEIGES line work together to create a fresh clean canvas for a healthy glow, without being too heavy for Singapore’s sweltering weather. For stubborn spots or dark circles, there’s CHANEL’s Éclat Lumière, a brush pen-type concealer. Enriched with vitamin C, it not only provides good coverage for your blemishes, but can also be applied on your cheekbones and the bridge of your nose to brighten your complexion.
A bright lipstick
To complete any look, slick on CHANEL’s Rouge Allure Ink onto lips. This intense lip colour comes in muted sheen or matt finishes, as well as a range of shades to suit every skin tone and occasion. There’s nothing like a pop of colour to add a touch of glam to your everyday look!
5 easy ways to wear red this Chinese New Year
There are many reasons to wear red. More than just a colour, shades of red convey boldness, confidence, even seduction. Working with researchers at Gettysburg College, Pennsylvania, CHANEL’s R&D department found that wearing red, especially on the lips, can even make you look more youthful. Meanwhile, a separate study found that women wearing dark eye and lip make up were seen as more competent at their work.
Still, that doesn’t mean that you need to deck yourself out in red from head to toe. Instead, go for subtle pops of red that won’t look out of place whether you’re running errands or at work. With Chinese New Year fast approaching, here are a few ways you can wear—and pull off—the auspicious shade for extra good luck!
On the nails
Subtle but classy, red nails are a timeless beauty classic. CHANEL’s LE VERNIS nail polish ROUGE RED is an arresting shade of red which will have passers by turning for a second glance. The new formula comes with the added benefit of Bioceramics and Ceramides to improve nail quality. Casual or sophisticated, it’ll certainly go a long way to completing your look.
On the eyes
A warm, earthy red tone complements most skin tones and makes your eyes stand out, not to mention it’s super versatile. For a simple day look, pair a red shade with a neutral brown, then add a touch of gold shimmer if you’re heading out at night for reunion dinner. Feeling creative? Combine CHANEL’s ILLUSION D'OMBRE VELVET matte eyeshadow with their LES 4 OMBRES CANDEUR ET EXPÉRIENCE eyeshadow palette for some amazing crimson and burgundy contrasts.
For a subtler pop of red that’s no less striking, swipe on a few coats of red mascara. Paired with a deep black liner and an otherwise neutral face, this avant garde take on a classic look is sure to turn heads wherever you go!
On the lips
Just like the little black dress, red lipstick is the quintessential piece of any makeup collection. It’s a feminine and timeless look that looks good on everyone. A swipe of the CHANEL ROUGE Allure Ink instantly jazzes up any outfit for a day of visiting relatives. The matt red lip ink is more subtle and trendier than glossy red, effortlessly bringing you from day to night.
On the feet
Not feeling any reds on your face? Wear them on your feet instead! Slip on a pair of red heels or ballet flats as a simple way to add a pop of auspicious colour to your outfit. It’s bold but subtle at the same time, giving you a touch of understated sophistication.
As accents
Accessories like headbands, scarves, or bags are easy ways to incorporate the colour red into your outfit to make it suit the festive season. Better yet, rope your significant other into joining you with their ties, belts, or even socks. Make a game out of it and you’ll both be in favour with the gods of fortune this CNY!
Skincare products you can use on the plane without scaring fellow passengers
Singaporeans are travelling more and more, and are actually among the most frequent travellers in the world. This should come as no surprise given Singapore’s central location and award-winning airport, which makes it easy for us to travel all over the region and beyond.
But all this flying can take its toll, not only on your bank account but on your skin too, and donning a hydrating sheet mask mid-flight might frighten your fellow jet-setters. If you find yourself facing any of the top in-flight skin challenges below, fret not, we’ve got elegant solutions for you.
Challenge: UVA rays
Sunlight is made up of two types of rays: long wave ultraviolet A (UVA) and short wave ultraviolet B (UVB). UVA rays penetrate deep into the dermis, the skin’s thickest layer, and are thought to play a major part in skin aging. UVA rays can penetrate glass and clouds, and a higher altitude means stronger ultraviolet rays. This means that a blast of UVA at 20,000 feet will be a lot higher than on the ground.
The solution?
CHANEL’s new UV Essentiel gel-cream, which protects skin from the damaging effects of UVA rays as well as surrounding pollutants – perfect for a long plane journey. The fresh, lightweight texture goes on easily and smoothly, providing skin with much-needed moisture as well as SPF 50 protection.
Challenge: Recycled air
Many passengers live in fear of the dreaded recycled air on planes, but most new airplane model shave high-efficiency particulate air filters which, in theory, capture 99.9 percent of bacteria and fungi.
The truth is you are more likely to catch something from a sneezing seatmate than airplane air, as the closer you sit to an infected person, the higher the risk of exposure is. Bacteria from the tray table is the other culprit. In a recent study, tray tables were found to have an average of 2,155 colony-forming units (the number of bacteria or fungal cells that are able to multiply) per square inch.
The solution?
Lashings of hand sanitizer and a healthy dose of vitamin C before you fly!
Challenge: Dehydration
Ever fallen asleep on a flight and woken up to find that your throat is completely parched and your nostrils have dried out? This is because the air inside a plane cabin has humidity levels ranging between 10 to 20 percent, which compared to Singapore’s relative humidity of around 80 percent, is a massive drop.
On top of that, airline meals do not contain much fresh fruit and vegetables, which contribute to our daily consumption of H2O on the ground. Add in a glass of wine and a cup of coffee and you’re staring dehydration in the (chapped) face. Worse than dry skin, dehydration can actually cause headaches and leave us more vulnerable to airborne viruses.
The solution?
Lots of water, frequent applications of a nourishing moisturiser, and a good lip balm. CHANEL’s Hydra Beauty Sérum is a great in-flight option. This refreshing, soothing serum moisturises, comforts and protects – ideal for boosting your complexion after a long flight. Its potent ingredients, created through exclusive CHANEL technology, work to maintain skin’s optimal moisture levels, making sure you look fresh as a daisy when you land.
CHANEL’s Hydra Beauty Nutrition Nourishing Lip Care is another moisturising powerhouse, combining the hydrating benefits of camellia, essential fatty acids, and plant waxes, nourishing and protecting dry and damaged lips.
If you follow these tips and tricks you’ll stay healthy and happy no matter how many flights you take!
Should you start using serums in your 20s?
In our 20s most of us are not thinking about the future – we’re too busy enjoying the present. Life is too full of exciting new experiences, people to meet, places to go, and holidays to enjoy, to worry about something like our complexion. But it is during these formative years that a great skincare regime can prove most effective.
Beauty experts agree that preventing the signs of aging is much easier than trying to reduce wrinkles and blemishes after they appear. So if you’re still in your 20s, and are willing to invest in the long-term health and appearance of your skin, we’ll let you in on the ultimate secret weapon against premature aging: serums.
Why you should start using serums
Serums are your best friends and allies in the battle for youthful skin. Face serums are lightweight moisturisers made up of small molecules that penetrate deeply into your skin, delivering a potent dose of highly concentrated active ingredients with just one use. While adding a serum to your beauty regime may seem like an extra complication, serums actually contain more moisture, nutrients and anti-aging ingredients than the average face cream, and can quickly and effectively target different skin issues thanks to their concentrated, deeply penetrating formula. Another common complaint is the higher price tag of serums, but again, this is a reflection of the fact that serums combat a slew of problems more efficiently, and you only need a few drops at a time. In fact, when used properly, a small bottle of serum could last you much longer than a jar of face cream.
Help skin make a youthful comeback
Some serums are also more expensive because they contain higher quality ingredients that have proven effects on our skin. Take CHANEL’s Blue Serum for example. CHANEL Research took inspiration from areas in the world called blue zones, characterised by populations with exceptional longevity and those whose skin maintains a youthful appearance. CHANEL Research put together three powerful, active ingredients in the Blue Serum: green coffee from Costa Rica, olives from Sardinia and the lentisk from Greece. Together, these pure and concentrated ingredients improve the skin’s cutaneous longevity and youthfulness, giving you beautiful skin that glows!
Chanel’s Blue Serum - launching 30 December 2016.
How to apply beauty products to maximise their power
Skin tip: Did you know that the products you use and how you apply them go hand in hand in maximising their efficacy?
Also, never underestimate the power of a good facial massage. When done right, it increases blood flow and helps give you a healthy glow. Check out how to apply the various skincare products you may already have in your arsenal but never knew how to use right!
To make sure you reap the benefits of your skincare products, always apply them on a clean canvas. This means a freshly washed face free from dirt, make-up and dead skin so the products can be absorbed easily, Make sure your finger tips are clean too.
Up your matte lipstick game this festive season
Matte shades are the hottest trend, and we love their lasting power and the uber-chic look.
However, matte formulas tend to emphasise the dry lines on your lips, so be sure to exfoliate (a soft bristled toothbrush works if you’re in a pinch), dab on some lip cream or lip balm, give it a few minutes to sink in and then wipe off the excess. Wiping off the excess moisturizer will help increase the longevity of your lipstick as it won’t be sliding off so easily.
In general, cooler shades work better on fair skin, while warmer tones pair well with darker skin, but all rules are off if you like how a colour looks on you.
We love Chanel’s Rouge Allure ink, a long-lasting liquid lipstick that glides on like a gloss and sets with a luminous, velvet-like finish. They come in eight provocative range of red-tint shades, from tart pink to deep brown-noir. This season, gift yourself or your BFF with a pop of colour to brighten up your lips and lives.
How to layer your scents to last
Scents are a key element of our beauty and self-care routine. No one should doubt the power of a scented ritual: a long soak in the bath, dabbing on lotions and creams, followed by a final spritz of fragrance. Whether sweet or sensual, heading out for a party of just staying in for the night, loving how you smell is bound to lift your spirits.
Run the hot water, pour your favourite foaming bath in, and revel in your personal luxurious bubble soak.
For an added touch of decadence, run a silky smooth soap bar over your skin. The creamy lather will impart an intimate, subtle scent.
After you dry off, lock in the moisture and soothe your skin with body lotion for that essential hydration your skin craves.
Be lavish with yourself, and apply a generous amount of body cream for extra softness.
For your finishing touch, spritz your fragrance over your pulse points – neck, wrists, backs of knees if you like – to complete the sensual ritual.
In the mood to express your love? Gift yourself or someone special with this lavish experience of scent.
10 things you are doing wrong when it comes to your skin
As good as your skincare routine is, there’s bound to be something you could improve on. Below are ten common mistakes or misconceptions when it comes to skincare - how many of these are you guilty of?
1. You wash with hot water
Hot showers feel wonderful, and who doesn’t love a long soak at the end of a hard day? But sadly the high temperature can strip away your skin’s essential oils and dry it out, especially when it comes to the sensitive skin on your face. Next time you step in the shower, turn the temperature down a degree or two. Your face (and Mother Nature!) will thank you.
2. You don’t wear sunscreen every day
If you only apply sunscreen when it’s sunny outside and skip it on cloudy days, you’re not doing yourself any favours. UV rays can penetrate even the thickest cloud layers, so make sure you apply a sunscreen like Chanel’s UV Essentiel before heading out. The lightweight sunscreen is enriched with tiare flower extract to defend your skin against external stressors, helping to keep your complexion youthful and radiant.
3. You apply sunscreen only once
And if you think that just because you applied that SPF50, you’re good for the rest of the day, think again. To maximise the effect of your sunscreen you should apply it 30 minutes before exposure to sunlight, and reapply every two hours. If you have been swimming, or have perspired a lot, we’re afraid you’ll need to reapply immediately after drying off.
4. You don’t exfoliate
Cleansing only takes care of the surface layer of your skin. To really get rid of all the debris that accumulates on your skin over the course of a day, make exfoliation a part of your regular routine. Try out these DIY exfoliating scrubs that can be easily made with ingredients you have in your kitchen!
5. You over-exfoliate
But take care not to exfoliate too much. Over-exfoliating is the fastest route to damaging your skin, as you’re scrubbing away at the protective top layer of your skin. Two to three times a week is more than enough.
6. You use the wrong products
Buying the first thing you see at the beauty counter, or taking home whatever is currently on trend, could do your skin more harm than good. Make sure to get products that are suitable for you, as skin care products are formulated differently for different skin types. For example, if you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, try out Chanel’s La Solution 10 . Formulated with just 10 ingredients, this gentle cream effectively soothes and defends stressed skin.
7. You use too much product
Even if you’ve found the right product for your skin, using too much of it is actually counter-productive. Use a pea sized amount of cleanser when washing your face. For lotions, use about a 5 cent coin amount. As for eye cream, less is better –the size of a grain of rice is more than enough.
8. You don’t wash your makeup brushes
Not washing your makeup brushes and sponges doesn’t just hinder smooth application. Dirty brushes hold a lot of old product, sebum, and dirt that can breed bacteria and cause damage to your skin, so make sure to wash them at least twice a week - warm water and a bit of shampoo will do.
9. You don’t pay attention to packaging
As a general rule of thumb, products that come in a tube are more hygienic than jars. When you pump product out of a tube, the rest of the product remains unexposed to bacteria that may be in the air, but every time you unscrew the cap of a jar to scoop product out, you run the risk of contaminating the rest of the product. Next time you’re picking up a new product, see what the packaging options are, and try and choose tubes if you can.
10. You ignore expiration dates
Expiration dates are printed on your products for a reason – they are an indication of when the active ingredients in your products will cease to be effective. Skin care products are generally good for about 6 months to a year, less if improperly stored - so make sure to keep your products out of sunlight or high temperatures!
Foolproof ways to protect your skin during haze season
When out and about recently you will have detected that burning smell hanging thickly in the air, a clear indicator that haze season has descended onto our little island yet again. The haze could well be a part of our lives for the next few months, so take those N95 masks out of storage and read on for the best ways to protect your skin!
Follow a strict cleansing regimen
On a regular day the air contains millions of microscopic particles that accumulate on your face - during haze season it’s likely to be ten times worse. Be sure to cleanse your face thoroughly twice a day with products that gently strip your skin of dirt and pollutants.
After cleansing, follow up with a soothing cream like Chanel’s La Solution 10, which is formulated with just ten ingredients to soothe, calm and protect your skin against the elements. It’s especially effective for sensitive or acne-prone skin, and great for periods when your skin is exposed to more irritants than usual, such as haze time.
Always use sunscreen
It’s doubly important to use sunscreen when you encounter hazy weather. The haze may result in an overcast sky, blocking out the sun’s rays, but the particles in the air continue to interact with UV rays, forming free radicals that wreak havoc on skin.
Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going out during the day, and make sure to reapply every two hours for proper skin protection. For those who dislike applying sunscreen because of the sticky film it leaves on skin, give UV Essentiel a try. The lightweight formula adheres invisibly to skin, yet is powerful enough to block even the harshest UV rays. It also contains tiare flower extract which stimulates the natural protective powers of your skin, keeping it glowing and radiant.
Watch what you eat
The best defense for your skin comes from inside your body, so eat extra healthily during this time. Even if you can’t meet your daily five servings of fruit and vegetables, make an effort to consume more foods that are high in antioxidants, such as blueberries, walnuts, red grapes, and dark leafy vegetables. The antioxidants in these foods help to fight the free radicals in your body, protecting you from within.
Haze also dries out the skin, so drink plenty of water. Those eight glasses (or more, if you can manage it) a day will help to flush out the toxins from your body and keep you hydrated. It’s the most straightforward way to skin that looks plump, youthful, and healthy!
How to store your skincare products in Singapore’s hot climate
Singapore’s hot and sticky weather can quickly damage or destroy beauty products, leaving your favourite toner or foundation unusable. To protect your must-have items from going bad, proper storage is a must.
Shower No-Nos
Keeping your face wash and scrub in the shower, where they are easy to access, might seem obvious. However, it’s a bad idea, as they may fill up with water, leaving them diluted and potentially contaminated by bacteria. Avoid this by placing them in the bathroom cupboard or on the counter until it’s time to get clean. If that sounds like too much hassle, you could invest in a shower caddy to keep your products tidy, out of the way, but still close to hand.
Lotions and potions
Keep your favourite creams and lotions in your bedroom or closet, away from the damp air found in the bathroom. Don’t just put them anywhere, though – a dark drawer is better than a windowsill warmed by Singapore’s bright summer sun. Exposure to direct light can harm the active ingredients in some products.
Cool Beauty
If your apartment is sweltering when the AC is off, you may be tempted to stash beauty products in the refrigerator. While this can work for some items, it’s bad for others. Products containing oils or silicone may solidify and separate in the fridge, preventing them from working as they should. Other things are fine at cooler temps. A chilled spritz of fragrant body spray, for instance, can really help you beat the heat.
When to Say Goodbye
Should Singapore’s climate get the best of your makeup and beauty products, you’ll need to dispose of them. If anything develops a strange smell or colour, throw it away. Items that have gone off may also change in consistency or texture, becoming too thick or greasy due to oil separation. Using such products can expose you to bacteria, causing infections or breakouts.
To combat the heat and humidity of the climate here in Singapore, make sure you get products that are formulated to be lightweight and effective, instead of heavy creams that sit on the skin, clogging up your pores. Chanel’s Hydra Beauty Micro Gel Yeux does wonders to smooth out the area around your eyes, while the Micro Serum from the same line provides a long-lasting hydration for your skin. If it’s radiant and youthful-looking skin you’re looking for, look no further!
How to look camera-ready no matter the weather
Looking camera-ready no matter the weather requires a bit of consideration and careful planning, such as customising your skincare and makeup routine. A few adjustments to your beauty regimen, coupled with the right products, willresult in a gorgeous look whether it’s a sunny day, a rainy afternoon, or a frosty winter evening.
Summer in the City
On hot days, skip foundation and use a light tinted moisturiser. Finish with lip gloss and a liquid highlighter, accenting the cheek and brow bones. Use waterproof mascara to avoid raccoon eyes, or add a coat of clear mascara over your regular product to keep it from running. Even when it’s scorching out, skin still needs to be moisturised – Chanel’s Hydra Beauty Essence Mist is a light and refreshing option, especially when you’re on the move. Just give your face a quick spritz, tuck it into your purse, and you’re ready to go!
Rain, Rain Go Away
In Singapore, rain and humidity are pretty much a constant, and wet weather can wreak havoc on your look. Avoid heavy makeup that’ll be hard to clean up if it gets wet - instead, keep things light and simple. Powder blush can streak in the rain, so go for cream blush as it has staying power and can be blended in easily. Better yet, try Chanel’s’ Le Teint Ultra Tenue, a lightweight powder foundation, for a dash of colour plus absorbent powders that reduce shine and minimise pores. Makeup wipes, sponges and cotton buds are also handy products to have ready for inclement weather.
First Class Care
Flying can stress skin in any climate, so give your complexion extra attention at cruising altitude. Wash away dirt and makeup with cleansing wipes before moisturising to protect your face from recycled plane air. For 15 to 20 minutes of soothing bliss, wear a sheet masque while reclining in your seat. When you land, sweep Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Stick across your cheeks for a warm flush.
Baby, It’s Cold Outside
For many of us Singaporeans, travelling to colder climates is a real treat. It’s an excuse to wrap up warm, find a nice log fire, and sip on some hot chocolate. But the drop in temperature may not be so agreeable to your skin, and can result in a dry, patchy and dull complexion. For a healthy glow, make sure you exfoliate gently whilst abroad, up to once or twice a week. Afterward, moisturise with a product like Chanel’s Hydra Beauty Micro Serum, which uses a patented Microfluidic technology to nourish your complexion with powerful camellia oil extract.
No Matter the Weather
Keep your skin safe with SPF protection, even when it’s grey and overcast. UV rays age skin, increase your risk of cancer, and may cause discolouration you won’t want to capture on film. Wear a broad-spectrum SPF moisturiser under your makeup every day, as even if your foundation contains sunblock, you probably won’t be using enough to provide adequate protection.
