Song rec: i’m yours by Isabel LaRosa
….. so does anyone remember me? I haven’t posted in ages and I’m sooo so sorry. Life has been busy these days + I am working on the Beomgyu fic which kind of makes me forget to write drabbles too +++ writers block🫠 Anyways I hope this kind of makes up for my inactivity😔🫶
"Yn? Psst, Yn, wake up."
You scrunch your face as the distant sound of the voice slowly starts to grow familiar in your ears.
"Yn-ie..."
Opening your eyes, you're met with the face of one of your best friends about five inches away from yours.
His face breaks out in a smile, and yours in a confused frown.
"Yeonjun? What are you doing here?" Your sleepy voice is hoarse and deep, and Yeonjun quickly places a slender finger over his plush lips.
"Shh, you'll wake up Taehyun and Kai."
You look over your shoulder to find the two still asleep on their air mattresses before returning your attention to Yeonjun who is standing beside your bed, hovering over you.
"Why did you wake me up? What time is it?"
"It's four in the morning."
"What?! Four in the-"
Yeonjun quickly leans in and covers your mouth with his hand, making your eyes widen and your heartbeat speed up as you stare at him.
"Remember when I said I wanted to go swimming at night once? We are going back home tomorrow, well today, so this is my last chance." His minty breath fans your face as he speaks without taking his eyes off the other two boys to make sure they're still asleep.
You grab his hand and remove it from your lips.
"And why just the two of us?"
Yeonjun averts his eyes back to you.
"The others will think I'm crazy for wanting to go for a swim at four in the morning when we have a seven-hour ride home ahead of us later."
"I think you're crazy too," you whisper, and the outer corners of Yeonjun's crinkle as a smile forms on his lips.
"I know. But you won't say no if I ask you to come with me."
You blink a few times and look away. "Why do you think that?"
The smile grows. "Because you've never disappointed me, Yn-ie."
You sigh and mentally thank the dark night for hiding the blush growing on your cheeks.
Yeonjun boops your nose. "So, you're coming with me?"
You groan and push him away, making him quietly giggle as he stands up straight, already knowing your answer.
You push the covers off your body before sitting up straight on the edge of the bed, and you don't miss the way Yeonjun looks you up and down for a split second before he returns his gaze to your face.
"I need to change into my bathing suit first," you murmur.
"The top and shorts you are wearing right now are fine. You aren't going to use them anymore anyways since this is our last night," your friend responds and you think about his words for a few seconds before agreeing.
You pop a piece of gum into your mouth before whispering, "Okay, let's go."
Yeonjun grins and takes your hand in his larger one before taking the lead to the small lake behind the vacation house.
The moment you step outside, you expect to be met with a cold night breeze, but to your surprise, it's still pleasantly warm.
Yeonjun doesn't let go of your hand as you walk past the now black and cold coals the eight of you used last night for the fire, and you aren't quite sure what to think of it.
It isn't the first time you're holding hands with him, and it's not like holding one of your closest friends' hands is weird, right? Still, you can't shut off the nerves running through your veins.
When you're just a few feet away from the water, you halt your steps and you immediately miss the warmth of Yeonjun's soft hand when he lets go.
You look from the water to Yeonjun at the same time he does the same and his face breaks out into a devilish grin when your eyes lock.
Dipping the tip of your foot in the water causes you to jerk back and hiss. "It's cold."
"You'll get used to it," he replies before giving you a wink.
Yeonjun takes the hem of his shirt and pulls it over his head, making your breath hitch at the sight of his toned body being illuminated by the pale moonlight.
He throws the shirt aside before looking back at you. "Enjoying the view?"
You immediately look away before offering him a disgusted laugh. "As if."
"Liar liar..." Yeonjun responds in a singsong voice as he takes slow steps toward you. "Ready?"
You watch the way he glances at the water before looking back at you, and you shake your head. "Absolutely not."
The grin returns to his face.
"Perfect."
The next second he has your hand gripped in his own before he takes a leap toward the water and jumps into it.
The cold water engulfs the two of you, and for a second or two you can't see anything but darkness. When you come back up above the surface, you gasp at the frostiness of the water and cling onto the first thing you can grasp, which happens to be a laughing Yeonjun.
He immediately grabs your waist to steady you and pulls you closer as you clutch onto his muscular shoulders with your shaky hands.
You cough a few times and Yeonjun brushes the wet strands of hair off your forehead.
"Are you alright?" he asks through his fit of giggles, and you nod before finally opening your eyes.
"Couldn't be better!" You reply and wipe your eyes.
"Control your breathing, love."
You try to take his advice and slowly you start to grow used to the coldness of the water, and to your surprise, it becomes remotely pleasant, warm almost. But that feeling might just be caused by the fact you're in the arms of the boy you've secretly been in love with for the past two years, and the fact he just called you "love."
"Oh man, I'm going to miss it here," Yeonjun murmurs as he guides the two of you a little deeper into the lake where a heap of hard sand causes the ground to be higher up so you can stand instead of staying afloat.
When you feel the ground beneath your feet, you nod. "I have to be honest. When Kai first proposed to spend a week at this lake house, I was pretty skeptical."
"Oh, I know you were," Yeonjun replies and you softly nudge him with your fist, both remembering the way he had laughed at you when seeing your face after you heard the vacation destination was officially decided to be the lake house of Kai's uncle.
"Can you blame me? I had something in mind like the Bahamas or Spain, not an old lake house in the middle of nowhere," you jokingly cry out and Yeonjun's heartfelt laugh that follows is like music to your ears.
"But I've actually had the most wonderful time with you guys, and I wouldn't have traded this week for anything. Not even for the Bahamas," you finish, now with a genuine smile, and Yeonjun's laughter dies down into a soft chuckle. The silence of the night engulfs the two of you, and his eyes flicker from your left to your right eye.
"What?" You ask with a confused smile, and he shakes his head.
"Nothing. You're just pretty."
Suddenly you become aware he's still holding onto your waist and your hands are still on his shoulder, and the fear he will notice the red on your cheeks makes you look away.
Yeonjun doesn't agree with that, though.
With his index finger to your jaw, he makes you return your gaze to him.
The smile has disappeared off his face, and a light frown replaced its place.
"Yn, look at me."
"Yeonjun, what are you doing?" You ask, a hint of frustration lacing your voice.
"I'm asking you to look at me," he responds with a calm voice, knowing that's not what you mean.
You blink a few times before finally daring to look up and lock your eyes with his.
Your breath hitches in your throat at the sight of him. Droplets of water from his wet hair slowly fall onto his perfectly carved face, and wetten his full lips. His eyes are darker than usual and bore into yours. From the corner of your eye, you can see the way his muscular chest moves up and down with breaths heavier than usual. Is he nervous?
He slowly pushes a strand of hair behind your ear, but to your surprise leaves his hand on your cheek before he lets it slide down to cup your jaw.
You close your eyes at the feeling of his thumb slowly tracing circles on your cheek, and you let out a defeated sigh.
Why does this keep happening? Why do the two of you keep tiptoeing this close to the border that separates friendship from being something more? And why do you want to cross it so, so bad?
"What's going on in that mind of yours?" Yeonjun quietly asks, his voice raspy and deep.
"Nothing," you whisper, and Yeonjun clenches his jaw at your response, one he doesn't want to hear.
Your eyes shoot open when Yeonjun's hand slides to your waist.
Instantly, you avert your gaze from him, too scared to face him this close.
"Come on, Yn. I know you. I know your mind is a whirlwind of thoughts right now," he responds, his voice still quiet but this time a tad more eager.
He knows you way too well.
You sigh. "What else..." you swallow and force yourself to look up at him.
"...What else do you know about me, hm?"
Yeonjun softly chuckles and tilts his head slightly.
"Well...I know you'll want us to stop at the first cafe we see on the side of the road tomorrow to get an iced coffee," he says softly.
You nod with a small grin.
"Correct," you reply quietly.
"I know you currently miss Monkey more than anything."
This makes you chuckle as you think about your orange cat that is currently being babysat by your sister.
"Oh, definitely."
"And-" The smile slowly slips off his lips and at the same time, one of his hands pulls you closer by the waist, while the other cups your cheek.
"-I know you don’t want us to be just friends anymore."
Your heart stops beating.
This is the first time any of you has said your feelings this bluntly. It was always the hints and looks and touches that gave away what was going on in your hearts. But now Yeonjun decided to be completely open by using his words. And it makes your knees go completely weak.
"Yeonjun..." you whisper, a hint of defeat already audible in your voice.
"Come on, Yn, who are we kidding by acting like we're only friends?" Yeonjun asks, a tired smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
He cups the side of your neck with his large hand, making it impossible for you to look away even if you wanted to.
"Yn, I don't want to just be your friend,” he begins, and the outer ends of his eyebrows droop. “I want to take you out on dates, spoil you with gifts. I want to cuddle with you and hold you close," with every word coming out of Yeonjun's mouth, his voice becomes intenser, desperation completely overtaking him.
"Yn, I want to kiss you." His voice cracks. "It physically pains me to have you look at me like this and not be able to kiss you."
You think you are dreaming. No, you are sure you are dreaming.
There is no way Yeonjun is laying himself this bare for you. The tough, carefree, and confident Yeonjun is literally laying his heart in your hands, hoping you won't drop and shatter it.
You've never seen him this vulnerable and honest. And it's beautiful. He is so beautiful.
"You're right," you quietly say and Yeonjun swallows, nervously blinking as he waits for you to continue.
"I don’t want you to be a friend. I want you to be mine. To be mine only,” you finally confess and it's like a weight of a hundred kilograms lifts off your shoulders.
Yeonjun frowns distraught and frenetically searches for your eyes as he pulls you closer until your noses are touching.
His eyes slowly but surely drop to your lips. "Yn... once I got you, I won't let you go any more," he whispers, "d-do you understand that?"
You know this moment will decide the rest of your friendship with Yeonjun. This will determine everything.
And so you say:
“I'm yours, Yeonjun."
The three words slipping off your lips are all Yeonjun needs to finally dare to close the gap between your mouths.
His lips capture yours and you don't expect his lips to be this soft, even softer than you always imagined them to be, and it causes you to immediately melt into him.
Fortunately, Yeonjun's muscular arms have a strong grip on you, keeping you steady and warm against him, and the lake might as well be made out of lava with the way your entire body is on fire.
"Okay, I think I'm dreaming," Yeonjun mumbles your thoughts out loud against your lips, and you can't help but let out a giggle, causing Yeonjun to slightly pull away.
He looks up with a hazy look in his eyes until he sees your smiley face, and a bright smile breaks out onto his pink lips.
"Hey, what are you laughing at?" He breathily chuckles and starts to tickle your sides, causing you to squirm against him.
"Stop it!" You laugh and Yeonjun's heartfelt laughter that follows makes your heart do summersaults, and a thousand butterflies go wild in your belly.
He halts his movements and you sigh in relief. With a content smile on his lips, he pulls you closer and wraps his arms around you. You can feel his rapid heartbeat against the side of your face as you wrap your own arms tightly around his waist.
"You will always be one of my best friends, Yn," he mumbles before pressing a kiss on the crown of your head. "But from now on I’m finally able to call you my lover. And I promise, love, I will forever be yours.”
