K-Pop Spotlight: ONF
This week, weâre highlighting ONF to celebrate the release of their repackaged album, City of ONF. We chatted with the six-member boy group about their latest album and ever-changing sound, their favorite lyrics, and the highlights of their nearly four-year-long careers thus far. Check out our full interview below.
Can you tell us about your new repackaged album, City of ONF, and what you hope people take away from it?
Hyojin: This repackaged album, City of ONF, is composed of 14 tracks, including eleven tracks from our first full-length album and three new tracks. The music is more powerful and energetic, which is unique to ONF. I hope everyone can learn more about us as a group that can pull off various genres of songs.
How would you describe your sound and how itâs changed since your debut?
E-Tion: A xylophoneâit sounds cute, clear, and sexy. I think it resembles my voice which has gotten deeper since our debut.
MK: I can describe it as a lemon. Iâve become more capable of controlling my voice quite freely since our debut.
Is there a moment that youâd consider the highlight of your careers up to now?
Wyatt: It was when we performed in front of FUSE. It was the happiest moment to enjoy the time together. Itâs a real shame that we canât perform in front of them due to COVID-19, and I want to enjoy a great performance on stage together with our FUSE again.
U: When we debuted as ONF, our first win on a music show, and meeting the most precious FUSE for the first time. There were so many great moments, and every moment makes me happy, so Iâm having the greatest moment right now. I hope the pandemic will come to an end as soon as possible so that we can meet face-to-face with our fans and have greater moments.
Whatâs your favorite lyric from your discography and why?
Hyojin:Â I like the part of the lyrics I wrote for the song âMy Name Is.â Itâs about introducing myself. I tried writing lyrics for the first time, and I want you to find out who I am and my charm when you listen to the song.
E-Tion:Â I like the lyrics from âTHE DREAMER,â where it goes, âYou donât have to run as long as your heart is beating.â I think the lyrics can be very encouraging for young people. I myself was comforted by listening to this song and felt relaxed and motivated.
Whatâs one thing that scares you and one thing that excites you?
Wyatt:Â Bugs scare me the most. I wasnât scared of bugs before, but they looked scary later on. I have fun playing with the other members. We do fun things together when weâre on standby and during our practice.
MK:Â I get scared of ghosts, and I love making music and get excited about it.
Outside of music, what are each of you most passionate about? Are there any hobbies you use to de-stress?
J-Us:Â Iâd say that sleeping is the best way to de-stress during our activities. Iâm most passionate about exercise outside of music. I exercise on the days off and during our spare time.
U:Â I like editing, so I looked it up on the internet to learn more about editing. I de-stress by going outside for a walk and sleeping.
If you could have dinner with one person, living or dead, who would it be and why?
Hyojin:Â It would be Park Hyo-shin who is my role model. I would love to meet him in person to talk about music and songs over dinner.
U:Â It would be my family! I couldnât visit my family in Japan for some time due to Covid 19. I miss my family, so I want to have dinner with them and catch up on many things.
MK:Â It would be Michael Jackson. Among the pop artists, he was the first artist I got to know. Since I was young, I have always respected Michael Jackson. I would have loved the opportunity to meet him in person.

Genuine question; What was unethical about the woman who sold nudes to raise money for charity? I mean, it's certainly morally problematic that she felt she had to do that, given there are people with far more money who could have contributed just as much, if not more, but I don't understand seeing her herself as unethical. Even if she were being coerced (which I don't believe she was) that would make the people coercing her unethical, not her herself, no?
what she did wasnât unethical at all and i never meant to imply that. i agree with everything on the post i reblogged, including the bit about not vilifying her. my problem is the glorification of the idea that women can use their bodies toward the greater good, and that this particular woman is saintly precisely bc she offered her body to help others in peril. itâs not unethical in itself nor is she, but the response is unsettling bc of what it says about how we view women and womenâs bodies as something that can be sacrificed in times of need.
really hate to be fatalistic but praising this and calling her a âpillar of moralityâ just furthers they idea that womenâs bodies are a resource or product, something with monetary value. selling nudes as an act of charity implies that womenâs bodies have an inherent monetary value that can be offered in exchange for charitable donation just like any other product can. it implies, whether it wants to or not, that women have this resource that theyâre sitting on or hoarding, that there is an inaction to not offering nudes in exchange for donations. none of it is her fault, itâs all much bigger than her, and im not criticizing her at all, but itâs awfully disturbing.

its not that americans canât read subtitles and watch international films but the propagandist arm of the us empire doesnât want its citizens to see films from other regions, particularly their adversary nations, because they know that cinema could humanize the very same people and culture they try really hard to vilify. its better to exaggerate the inaccessibility of subtitles and limit distribution of foreign films so people are forced to be pacified by english blockbusters.Â
americans really think their government tries so hard to limit foreign films like⌠no yall are just too lazy to go online and find somewhere to watch foreign films can yall stop pretending the reason you dont watch foreign films has to do w american imperialism as if yall are small babies that cant navigate the internet to go and watch films??? like do you have no agency of your own? can your people not think of other people as human without seeing them in movies? dont make excuses for your own laziness, if american imperialism is affecting anything in regards to foreign films its how so many of them now try to be as much as american films as possible by shedding their own cultural ties, the only thing keeping you from watching foreign films is an inability to google âwatch solaris 1971 onlineâ
