Photo Field Trip presents: PHOTO 101 with @imageisfound and @whitneykentchamberlin WHAT IT IS: Stop hiding behind automated settings. Stop relying on that tiny preview screen. Your camera isn’t an overcomplicated piece of technology. It’s an extension of your creative vision. We’re taking a year’s worth of photo school and compressing it into one day. Photography isn’t about looking at a 2-inch screen on the back of your camera. Those weren’t even around until a few years ago. And while they do allow a certain amount of positive functionality, we must also acknowledge how tempting it is to become totally reliant on those little screens, and to see our entire photographic endeavor through a 2-inch window. That window is like a Person-to-Camera dictionary - imagine how much better you could work if you simply internalized the camera language. This Thursday (April 9th)the YEAH! Furniture Pop-up Shop will be hosting some extra special guests: US! For those of you who don’t necessarily consider yourselves photography aficionados but still love to attend the infamous revelry of Lazers & Blazers, this year we’ve got a new option specially for you: a 2-day Vacation Music Pass. Spurred on by its symbiosis with Photo Field Trip, Lazers & Blazers is in the process of evolving from a mere dance party into a multifaceted, micro music festival. But before you shut your laptop / throw your phone across the room / fog up your google glass / smash the monitor of your Gateway 5000, let’s be clear that this is not a “festival” in the sweaty, overcrowded, superficial, poorly-engineered, horde-of-wailing-manbabies sense. We’re talking about intimate, specially-curated live performances in ways you’ve never seen them before. Well-known artists, but in a unique setting that engenders a unique presentation. What better place to induce such a performance than an environment already brimming with artistic energy and community, an environment that elicits and fosters creative expression in its truest form. Don’t worry though, the unrivaled insanity of a dance party under the stars will still be at the core of Lazers & Blazers. But in addition to that tradition, we always want to be moving forward, providing the opportunity to expand your mind and be part of something that hasn’t been done before. For those of you particularly interested in this aspect of Photo Field Trip, we’re offering the 2-day Vacation Music Pass. You’ll check in Saturday evening and check out Monday after breakfast. In between, you’ll dance your ass off at Lazers on Saturday, attend this year’s live show featuring Phosphorescent (solo), on Sunday, participate in games and activities, and bask in the creative forcefield amongst hundreds of artists. There are only 20 spaces for this option, so if you’re interested, jump into the fold soon. The Modern Landscape // The world around us has changed, yet the creative approach to landscape photography has remained largely the same.The Modern landscape, challenges photographers to remove the clutter, the obvious and the cliché from their landscapes to create memorable images with a distinct visual voice. Quick update to Dan O'Day's class description. Both classes will be entitled "Thinking. Shooting. Asking / The Ultimate of Everything in 3 Sections" Section1: Common Sense Simple rules of common sense that are often ignored, little bits and pieces I have picked up over the years that (I believe) have helped me stay employed, travel planet earth, (stay overwhelmed) and live the life I feel like I want to live (for now). Step 2: The Ultimate Shooting Championship (USC) Lets talk about shooting - Ill walk you through a few tricks and tips that I use and I'll explain what matters (too me) when shooting. (I will require two volunteers) Step 3: A Sweet 10min Film and Epic Q+A The One thing that there never seems to be time for is Q+A. Last year I had loads of great questions asked over beers and muddy wanders (which was totally great) but I think there is a lot to be said for questions asked in a group environment. This way, everyone can benefit from the discussions. So.
