sofĂa had been ready to approach the bar and pour herself a shot, but when matias stepped in she felt a smile curl her lips. she couldnât remember the last time daniel had prepared a drink for her, let alone tequila â he hated the liquor, usually preferring whiskey, and so it was never kept in their liquor cabinet at home. but sofĂa had fond memories with tequila, margaritas and shots shared with her cousins back home. so as matias poured the shots, she couldnât help but feel an eagerness bubble up inside of her. shaking the salt onto her hand, she locked eyes with him and took the shot, easily swallowing the familiar sting. after biting down on a lime to chase, her grin was wide as she looked to matias. âugh, that was amazing. iâm suddenly realizing how lame iâve been, sitting at home with my red wine.â her eyes rolled with a giggle and she was about to scan the area too see what daniel was up to, a second nature instinct to her now, when matias surprised her by taking her hand and twirling her. years of dance let her glide through the twirl with ease, even in the high heels she donned. suddenly, any thought of daniel had fallen out of her mind as she came face-to-face with matias again and his words brought another wave of heat to her cheeks. âoh, thank you,â she said sheepishly. âi havenât been out in ages, so i figured go big or stay home right?â she laughed. âyou know, you clean up pretty well too.â her eyes assessed the male before her, his appearance now a stark difference from the matias sheâd last seen at the gym. âhope your bruises start healing up well. if you need any more shots to numb the pain, i got you. call it payback for ruining your mojo.â her mind couldnât help but flash back to the sight in the gym, matias all battered and bruised from her boyfriendâs fists. âyâknow, itâs funny â back when we started dating, daniel was the one getting distracted by me coming in and then getting the lights knocked out of him. funny how things change.â it wasnât that funny and sofĂaâs smile faltered slightly as evidence, but she shook herself out of the thought. now wasnât the time for moping over the good olâ days. looking back to matias with a forced grin, she gestured to the vip area they stood in. âso this is where you boys drag daniel every week? i can see its attraction, weâre living like drake up here.â
the boy sighed in relief when sofia averted her glance from the crowd and focused her eyes on him instead. âmission accomplished,â he thought to himself as she appeared distracted by his maneuver and seemed no longer occupied by the absence of her boyfriend. his eyes softened at the sight of her gliding gracefully through his fingers. matias did not know a whole lot about the girl, but he knew that she loved to dance. daniel liked to brag about his girlfriendâs natural talent for the sport, often emphasizing how he liked to put her flexibility to use in the bedroom. matias cared less about his friendâs continuous bragging about his sex life, but he found sofiaâs love for dancing to be rather intriguing. although he wasnât much of a dancer himself, - back home, matias preferred to find himself a quiet spot at the carnaval and admire the dancing crowds from afar, - but coming from a background of samba and tropicĂĄlia, an innate love for rhythm was something sofia and matias had in common. naturally, her love for dance only made her more attractive to the young man. a faint tinge of color flushed the girlâs cheeks when he complimented her and matias grinned widely at her response. âgo big or go home. those are some famous words to live by.â he shrugged when she returned the compliment, his eyes glancing down at his outfit. âi try.â instead of his usual gym attire, matias was wearing his favorite pair of blue jeans and a white, freshly ironed t-shirt. heâd swapped his gym shoes for a pair of fresh nikes and heâd even accessorized with some bling: a gold chain, a matching ring and a watch. personally, he thought his fit was a bit of a lazy attempt compared to the dress she was pulling off, but it was a compliment he was willing to take. he cocked his eyebrow when she brought up his bruises again and laughed when she mentioned his âmojoâ. this was a more talkative, dare I say sassier, side of the small brunette that heâd never seen before, and matias would be lying if he said he wasnât amused by it. âlike i said, iâve had worse than a beating. iâll gladly take another shot of tequila from you later, âthough.â he winked as he turned to grab his glass of whiskey from their table. âbesides, your boyfriendâs a sore loser. weâve gotta let him win every once in a while.â he joked, âthough the smile disappeared abruptly from his face when she went on to talk about her boyfriend, talking about how things had changed. he stared at her and couldnât help but look over to her boyfriend, who was now standing less than five meters away from them. the blonde girl was now standing in front of him, his hands traveling up and down her hips. matias brought the glass of whiskey to his mouth. he swallowed deeply- one gulp, then another, and one more. he silently thanked the Lord when she changed the subject and nodded in agreement. âitâs a pretty good spot, huh? i gotta give it to jay, âthough. heâs the one who gets us VIP treatment all the time. where is that man, anyway?â matias looks up to find jay and his girlfriend, but is distracted by sofiaâs boyfriend again. him and the blonde seem awfully close to grinding now. âIâm guessing you must like drake, then.â matias asks as he turns back to face her, attempting to keep their conversation going without appearing too distracted. âyou didnât strike me as the âcute with a hood-ass playlistâ kind of girl.â
