An Act of Persuasion; (Luka & Youngjae)
âUhmmâŚâ
Nothing was familiar. It was like the day when Youngjae had first landed on Earth and had absolutely no idea where he was, what he was doing and how he was going to survive. The walls of the buildings here were scarred with vulgar words in the gaudiest colours, the paint still wet and still corroding Youngjaeâs sense of smell. There were unidentifiable dark patches on the ground, wounds carved by the inhabitantsâor perhaps, as Youngjae skirted around a streak of red, the inhabitants instead were wounded. It was dark, despite the sun still not having set yet, as if the light had forsaken these narrow alleyways, the buildings clamouring together in an act of safety in numbers.
Maybe he shouldnât have fallen asleep on the bus, but he did, and he had thought that this was the most direct route back home, but now he didnât. He stared at the unfamiliar surroundings, a sense of dread pawing at his insides as he realised, well, he was truly and utterly lost. He couldnât see the sun from which he could calculate a fairly northerly direction, nor had the stars risen yet. He was in a liminal space between light and dark, a place where shadows blended together into one single tone and suffocated the senses. He did the only thing he could and continued to place one foot in front of the other, blindly turning corners.
He rounded a corner, and thought there was a darker shade to the monotone grey. As he approached, the outline condensed and sharpened, forming a figure in the alleyway. Almost with a sense of relief (despite the dread that had now sat up fully alert and ears pricked), Youngjae trotted up to the other.
âExcuse me,â he gave an uncertain smile at the stranger. âCould you tell me the way to the nearest main road?â He wasnât about to tell the other where âhomeâ lay, he decided that it would be simple enough to find a main road and navigate from there.
8-12
8:Favorite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging
Excessive consumption of green tea ice cream. And Youngjae doesn't even care, he'll just eat it from the tub.
9:Makeup?
No, Youngjae'll probably stab himself in the eye by accident.
10:Neuroses? Do they recognize them as such?
Youngjae is claustrophobic and must always have something to do at all times. Even something simple like reading a book or as complex as designing and building a weapon. He is only the mildest bit compulsive towards orderliness, but wouldn't classify himself as obsessive-compulsive. Most of his neuroses stem from his time in captivity and what was essentially enslavement.
11:Intellectual pursuits?
He spent a millennium engineering weapons of war, but now, since he has arrived on Earth, he likes learning and memorising the geography of the planet and the history and culture of the human race here.Â
12:Favorite book genre?
Non-fiction, specifically history and geography (he can be often found hanging around the 900s section of the non-fiction area of the library)

lunch break ; youngjae & jongin
There were a few reasons as to why Jongin had chosen to work at a library out of all places albeit the apparent absence of passion towards books in his veins. He liked reading, that much was trueâheâd still prefer reading over socializing sometimes, opting to drown himself in the string of woven words instead of compelling himself to smile and find conversational topics. However, that didnât truly mean that he couldnât live without them. Nothing, as of late (or as long as he could remember since depression had been a malicious thing that consumed every fiber of his being, swallowing what little passions that he could own) had engaged his interests, and so while he could find solace being surrounded by books, he might as well try and salvage what he could from that part of being a functioning human being.
It felt slightly different for him to be assigned an afternoon shift instead of the evening one. Most of the faces were completely unfamiliar for him, both from the visitors and colleagues sides. But he knew someoneâsomeone whom he often greeted when he arrived at work before his shift commenced, and this someone struck the cords of his curiosity as his senses chirruped out with a belief that this person wasnât human. There were plenty of creatures that heâd encountered in his life, but Youngjae seemed so amazingly humane that he kept wondering if his senses had made a mistake. Alas, he was determined to find out, and so when the lunch break came, he immediately made his way to where Youngjae might be, and spotted the other man.
"Youngjae," he called, jogging lightly to close the gap that previously spanned between them. "Are you going out for lunch?"
The rustling of the pages turning and people sighing as they settled into the beanbags cocooned Youngjae as he dug into a book that detailed the riches of a country beyond the sea. He liked this job better than his other one, if only for the relaxed atmosphere. Even a student furiously scribbling away at their essay was calmingâthe scratching noise of graphite rhythmic like his very own pattering of rain on glass. He flipped the page, smooth under his fingers and glossy as the glare from the lights hit the paper, and greedily drank in the photos and black text. The library contained the world, every nook and cranny of it was meticulously documented and photographed, bound and indexed, all for Youngjae who explored vicariously through the adventurers.
He blinked when someone called his name, and automatically reached for the scanner, but when he turned around it was just Jongin jogging up to him. He refrained from telling the other off about the running (it disturbed the mulling and deliberative peacefulness of the library) and smiled at him. It had been a long while since Youngjae had first arrived on the planet, and he prided himself on the fact that he had adapted and blended in so well that he hasnât been caught out once although there had been so many close calls. At the otherâs inquiry, he replaced the scanner in its stand and glanced down at his watch (he had to do some mental arithmetic to equate it to his own planetâs time).
âSure,â he replied cheerfully to Jongin. He quite liked the human. The other was a little too curious sometimes and Youngjae had to dodge those bullets, but the other seemed extraordinary normal human otherwise. âWhy not? Where to? What would you like to eat?â
