Hello. I found the post you mentioned in the previous ask. But it says the charity that was run by jk Rowling was lumos which I remember being mentioned at some point. Donating to a counter organization is great but I was under the assumption that money would be going to a magic themed charity that would help children :/
We switched twice, I'm afraid, our switch to Open Hearts Magic was made around the time of preorders, and you're correct, that was our switch from Lumos, however, we switched again in the fall
I'm very sorry if there was a lack of clarity on that on social media :( We did inform all of our buyers via email and if something got lost during the cross-posting of information, we're deeply sorry for that :(
Please believe me when I say that the decision was not made lightly, we spent several weeks going back and forth about if we should switch, there were alot of opinions about every potential option, and we originally thought to choose "Mermaids"- a UK based transgender charity that focuses on children (and as the title is mermaids, it would also be magic themed, as well as helping transgender kids, thus solving all of our issues/hitting all of our points), however, we came across some disconcerting information about Mermaids and, as we had at that point already decided to switch to a transgender charity, Transgender Europe was where we decided to go
We tried to take every voice speaking to us into consideration, and ultimately, quite a few of the people who's hearts were pulled strongest to Transgender Europe were our contributors, who we ofcourse always want to do right by, that on top of customers issuing their concerns as well, due to our original association with Lumos and the fact that, at one point, we were going to have a Harry Potter AU included in the zine, we felt that this was the best decision
We hope you understand and that you'll help us support Transgender Europe, who reaches people of all ages, and who may not be magic themed, but who certainly is magical for what they do <3
