Final journal: Poem

People spend so much time on the "I" and not on the we That they forget about the true meaning of opportunity At the end of the day, we are all conquered by the technology As we abandon the whole perception of unity Why can't we just stop with the haste and all the abbreviations, When we can go out in the world and meet a new face? By simply introducing ourselves and starting a conversation, We can value all the time in life that isn't for waste Life isn't all about all the followers and likes But it's about focusing on the people who really love us Because although we might all seem alike We can be different by admitting to all the fuss At the end of the day, we might all have big friend lists But we all succumb to the screen and the desire Because if you think about it, aren't many of us truly friend less? So just look back at your life and see what really transpired

Nick carraway write up

Do I know nick carraway? I don't know him personally like I know my family and friends, but I know of him. What I know about him is that he seems really nice, loyal, and truthful towards the other characters in the story. Nick seems like the good guy in the play while constantly trying to assist Gatsby, Daisy, etc. But there's something about him that bothers me. As you read the play, you can see what Nick thinks about himself. He calls himself the most honest person he's known and in the beginning he says that he's inclined to not judge people in the wrong way. But as the story unfolds, you can see how Nick begins to abandon these character traits that he holds so highly of. He calls Jordan dishonest and he calls Tom and Daisy careless people. If Nick was really honest would he be criticizing these people like that? So why did he? Maybe it's because of what he's working with. When people are around the wrong crowd, they begin to get sucked into there ideas and character traits. As a result, Nick started showing signs of dishonesty and chicanery that the other characters around him constantly present throughout the novel.

Interacting with others journal

When I interact with others, I tend to be nice and serene when speaking. I try to present myself in an orderly fashion and not do things that are out of place. On top of that, there are some ethics and laws that I go by when encountering person or a group of people. When I see a situation involving something that might seem to have bad intentions, I give the benefit of the doubt because not everything is what it seems to be. On another level, we don't know what that person has just gone through or what had happened to him that day. Maybe he got fired or maybe someone close to him died? In every bad situation, there is always a reason why it happens. Sometimes, my anger overcomes my good understanding and I begin to judge people the wrong way. But then again every bad moment has its upsides. In this cases, I look to see how I failed and I then strive to make improvements.

The Great Gatsby Journal

The narrator is Nick. One of the first things he does is talk about the lesson of judging that he learnt from his father. He tells the readers that you can't judge a person just because that person doesn't live up to your standards. As stated in the novel, not everyone works with the same advantages. As a result, I tend to believe the narrator because the novel seems to be a story about himself. And thats where Gatsby comes in to the fold. He is involved in the narrators personal life story and therefore it is evident to believe him. In regards to the writing tools, the narrator uses imagery really well throughout the beginning of the novel. This is true because while reading the book, the tone and the words used helped me really visualize what the narrator was trying to convey to the readers.

Topic summarization for Essay

I will either will writing about gender roles or the death of Mercutio: here are both summarized : I intend to show that the death of Mercutio is the climax of the play, which is a much the product of the tragedy done by Shakespeare or/and Luhrmann and has large effect on the deaths of R&J. I intend to show that the values of gender roles is lacking in the play, which is a much the product of the characters done by Shakespeare or/and Luhrmann and has a big effect on the characteristics of R&J.

Four Questions of Sex and Gender

1) Do the values of manliness come in conflict with Romeo? (He's seems really feminine in the play and movie) 2) Does Romeo's masculinity begin to grow as the play progresses? 3) How did the sexual attraction between Romeo and Juliet lead to their deaths? 4) How does sex impact the "love" between Romeo and Juliet?

Favorite songs from R&J

After listening to the songs, the ones I liked were, Lovefool, You and Me song, and To You I Bestow. I liked these songs because of the sound and beat that they had. Also, the lyrics were really interesting since they had connections to the play. The lyrics and words compared to love. Henceforth, whole theme and message of love throughout the play between Romeo and Juliet are seen in these songs. In Lovefool, the lyrics "love me love say that you love me" is recurring in the song. As a result, I see a connection of love in the song to the love in the play. In the You and Me song, "you and me, always, forever" symbolizes that Romeo and Juliet want to love each other forever. Therefore, they will do anything to be with other. In To You I Bestow the lyrics "Kiss me and tell me it's not broken" justifies that the song is focused on love and as a result is really connected to the theme of love in Romeo and Juliet.

Shakesperian Sonnet

A. Playing ball is really fun especially at the gym B. The drive to play is what really pushes me to fly A. Scoring and passing are really key around the rim B. Since it breaks down the defense of any guy C. People tell me you have to play with respect and class D. But I tell myself everyone's an enemy during play C. Sometimes you have to just listen or take a pass D. Other times you have to step up and make a say E. Playing brings out the best in me when I'm scoring F. That feeling when you make a nice play or fake E. Is comparable to the glimpse of Jordan when I'm soaring F. But it's different then the sound I make like a quake G. Romeo and the Sonnet

After imagining Romeo was real, I found connections to Shakespeare’s first sonnet on how it can be talking about him. As the sonnet says “beauty’s rose might never die”, it references to the death of beauty (or looks). I understood from this that Romeo never wanted Juliet’s looks to fade since he yearns for a women who resembles what he appreciates the most, beauty. As a result, he never wants Juliet to age because of how beautiful she is. With Romeo and Rosaline, it’s clear to me that he fell in love with her at first sight because of her uncontrollable beauty. However, he also mentions how her beauty will eventually fade away. In comparison to the sonnet, it seems fitting that Shakespeare can be speaking about Romeo and his overall attitude towards women. As the sonnet continues, it says “but thou contracted to thine own bright eyes.” This line exemplifies the reality of life and how it is carried out. What can be drawn out is that no one is immortal and everyone is bound by their flesh. As a result, people’s looks eventually fade away. And this is something that Romeo realized and therefore can be connected towards the sonnet.

Modern Tragedy was really difficult to understand and comprehend. But after further analysis I understood some of the messages that Raymond Williams was trying to send over to his readers. Williams says that tragedy is something that is personal and general. On the other hand tragedy is not when someone is suffering or dying. It is a situation that is tragic and which the long tradition contains. Of the many things he discusses, the meaning of tragedy and the connection that he makes with tradition to tragedy is key. What is tradition? To him, it is a thought, a question. What it really is, is a meaning or explanation of the past. It is something we can learn and understand from. What is tragedy? To quote “we come to tragedy by many roads. It is an immediate experience, a body of literature, conflict of theory, an academic problem.” This quote is vital as it introduces the first essay. So many thoughts and understandings can be taken out form this quote since it is so deep. Tragedy is something that happens to someone right away which can affect a person throughout his life.

Poem

This classroom is filled with many great things Sometime, it Reminds me of many of the previous kings So enchanted by the sum of people in the room Encompassed by many of the greats about to come out and bloom There's a myriad of people in this session Surprisingly, most of them look like they're learning a lesson The thing that blows me away is the eager to learn flowing throughout the group Looks like I gotta start moving forward to recoup

Last Thursday my email was on the sheet that was passed around in order to get the book on email. However, I didn't receive any email about the pdf of the book or anything related to Modern Tragedy. As a result, I tried to get the book from my local library, but they didn't have it. So there's nothing much I can say about the book because I haven't even received it. I will bring a flash drive today to get the book. Sorry that this happened but I don't know what else I could've done. Sorry for the bad news.

When I first read this article, I was really confused about what was going. So, I had to read it again so that I can have a better understanding of what was actually going on. After having a better grasp of the author’s point, I found some things that were interesting. The whole argument is what interpretation. Is her message that interpretation is not something to be taken into account when discussing an art? Or is that that interpretation causes content in an artwork where she is totally against. “Interpretation thus presupposes a discrepancy between the clear meaning of the text and the demands of (later) readers. It seeks to resolve that discrepancy.” I found this quote to be very insightful because it got me thinking about what her take on interpretation is. It gave me a better understanding. I took out from this that the argument at hand is that interpretation is similar to understanding a text that can no longer be read clearly. In both instances, you are in search of a new meaning in which you believe exists.
