Mickie sighed, and know that Onyx knew the male would probably stop talking to him, or at least that’s what he thought should happen. His live was bleak, too many uncertainties that left him paralyzed, not wanting others to get hurt, and it all became a deterrent in his own pursuit of happiness. What guy would like to get stuck to someone with that much baggage? “Yeah,” he said meekly, still not looking at Onyx. “He’s the one who called me Mickie. Our…Our first date was actually a Disney movie marathon, and he bought us matching Mickey Mouse ears, and he said that I was his own Mickie. So that’s why I kept it, it’s the only thing I have left of him that no one can take away. I don’t know if his grandmother knows what really happened to him, and I don’t know how I’ll ever face her because all they had was each other. Don’t worry, my dad is a piece of shit. He wanted me to take over for him after he was gone, so he was grooming me to be cold hearted and focused.” Mickie was thankful that Onyx was here, and that he was able to bring him some form of comfort in his own way, and who could truly ever comfort someone who’s lived through a nightmare such as this? “I know he shouldn’t be able to but he still is, and I doubt he stopped looking, he’s relentless. If not to get me back and be an obedient son it would be to make an example out of me, so all his enemies would see that he isn’t above hurting his own son. Living here with all of you have been the best years of my life, and I hate the thought of anything ever happening to any of you.” Mickie’s father was a monster, he was the reason as to why he was afraid of the dark, why his smiles were nothing but broken fragments of what could’ve been. He might’ve gotten a bad hand dealt early in life, but here he was able to be somewhat free, create his own memories, forge new relationships, but it was all scary to think that it could be ripped away in a mere second, just like before. “He’s got people working for him in the police, the mafia’s got ties everywhere, and if I’m not careful they’ll catch me. I can’t think of a way to bring him down, not right now.” Finally looking over the other, he found himself smiling as he nudged Onyx slightly. “Brat,” he mumbled as he scooted closer to him, resting his head on Onyx’s shoulder. “I just thought…Oh, guess I must be an idiot then cause I never knew. This is embarrassing.”
His elbow rested against a knee, and Onyx cupped his cheek, face turned toward Mickie as the man further explained his situation. It was beyond the comprehension of most, living in a mob-like family, and was worlds apart from Onyx’s own upbringing. He’d had a rather easy existence, by comparison. Losing his twin, and their father were the worst experiences of his life, but everyone in his world accepted him. Jayde never once thought any less of his brother when he came out to him, and his parents and the rest of his siblings, supported him fully. Growing up with a very laid-back family, he honestly never expected any less. The usual fear was present with the thought of outing oneself to their family, but he genuinely trusted them to accept him. And they had. Mickie would never know that level of approval from those that were supposed to love him most in life, and that in itself was heart-rendering. How he’d managed to survive all that he’d been through, Onyx would never know. He was probably one of the strongest people he’d ever met. ❝I’m really sorry for everything that’s happened to you, none of that could have been easy to deal with… but you had something truly beautiful at the same time. Cherish that, not everyone gets to have that in life. He saw you as special, and gave everything to you—it’s very romantic. But it’s so sad you had to lose him. I wish he was still in your life, and that you’d gotten away from your father way before anything bad happened. It really sucks, man… but we’re here for you. We have your back, and as dangerous as it is to know you, I honestly don’t give a fuck. I wanna be your friend.❞ It likely didn’t mean much, but Onyx felt like Mickie should hear those words all the same because he meant every word. He’d be there for Mickie as long as he needed him. Smiling with the word probably meant as an insult, but filled with too much affection for Onyx to take seriously, he nodded and gave the others leg a small pat. ❝You need to learn how to use weapons, just in case. I can teach you… I’m handy with a knife… or ten.❞ Snickering, Onyx allowed his gaze to drift down the dark alleyway, a little more vigilant than moments before. ❝Nah, most people don’t get the whole gay vibe from me. Must be the surfer boy attitude or the Aussie accent, I’m not sure.❞
